David is the best RPG news channel on youtube, no doubt about it. I feel all caught up after watching these and it's one of my favourite times of the week. Thanks for all your research and hard work, David.
As Del Griffith (John Candy, may God rest his soul📿) once said from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, I can vouch for that. He is indeed the best RPG new channel ever, alongside Playeressence and Erick Landon (don't want to go back to that time years ago, back when I was not into JRPGs yet).
Thank you, Davida, for sharing. From being a JRPG player to becoming a developer, I'm thrilled to be involved in a career I love. We will strive to create even better games.
Thank you so much for covering Sky Oceans, a game we have been developing for almost 4 years! I’ve been a fan of your content for a while now, so seeing our game sparking interest in you is amazing!!! Keep up with your great vids ❤
Unfortunately the main developer of SoA, Rieko Kodama, passed away back in 2022. So a proper sequel will never happen. Use the Maeson mod to improve the gameplay balance, either upscale it through Dolphin or mod a Wii or Wii U depending on the age of your monitor to preserve the disc longer, and be happy with the legend remaining timeless.
I think CrisTales had some really interesting gameplay mechanics, with an interesting story, but I believe the final product didn't come off as well due to lack of funds, if the developers had done what the creators of Sea of Stars had done and started a fundraiser for CrisTales, I do believe the final product would have ended upe being better, so I'm thinking of making a donation for their new game, I think the talent is there with proper funding Prisma could end up being a surprise gem of a game.
I wish I could subscribe to your channel 100 more times David! Ever since I found it 3 or 4 months ago it became my favorite place to go for RPG news because like you I am from the older gaming generation and we have very similar RPG tastes. That's not to even speak on the best part of your channel which is the energy you bring to it, you seem like a wonderful and kind person and that makes your content second to none in my opinion... Keep on kicking ass sir and thank you for the great videos!!🙏
Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land came out on the PS2 in North America back in 2001. Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls came out on the PS3 in North America on June 1st 2011. I’m not sure those count as part of the main series, though.
Labyrinth of Lost Souls was made by Aquire, the same developers of the Akiba's Trip series. Very fun and highly recommended if you haven't played it already. That goes for you Davidvinc if you haven't played it yet.
Visions of Mana killed me with that release date. August is already stacked to the brim for me and having it come out the same day as Gundam Breaker 4 just means I have to push it somewhat. Most definitely grabbing it though, hopefully by the end of the year.
To answer your Wizardry question, the last mainline entry was (the phenomenal) Wizardry 8 in 2001. There have been a few spinoffs that released stateside since then, and a plethora that have only released in Japan, but even the most recent one of those was in 2014.
Hello David, I learned about you because of femtrooper. As a father of two little boys, your weekly news videos are what keeps me up to date on videogame news (RPGs). In fact the last game I played, Sagres, was because I learned about it from your weekly news updates. Thank You. Sagres is a copy of one of my favorite Genesis / Super Nintendo games of all time New Horizons II.
The last main Wizardy game was 8 in 2001, but there's been a bunch of spin offs made in Japan, with some of them releasing outside of there like the first game in the series I played, Tales of the Forsaken Land for the PS2. The most recent thing I've seen though was the remake of 1 by Digital Eclipse.
David, you and I are safe, brother. Our old asses past 33 years ago lol. Also I want to help you reach 100k but my sub is only worth 1 so that’s all I could do. I’ll recommend you to other people to see if that helps because that 1 sub is not enough lol
I'm so excited for Visions. I really really hope they stick with the tried and true Mana formula that made the first few games in the series as well as the Trials remake so memorable and fun to play.
For those in NA who _really_ want a physical PS4 copy of Visions of Mana, VGP (Videogamesplus) in Canada has the European PEGI import (standard edition only). You can avoid the VAT taxes more pricy duties fees if you were to import it yourself from overseas, by buying from a retailer already in NA instead.
The last Wizardry was 8 for PC and it was actually way better than the classic ones. I might pick up one of these classic remakes coming out, the company was bankrupt and dormant for many years, but it was also lisenced to Atlus.
The digital version (Standard and Deluxe) of Visions of Mana is in the PS4 store, you just can't get a physical version in North America. Not unexpected, most companies seem to not be offering physical copies for PS4 anymore. The two new games I played this year (Unicorn Overlord and Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes) were digital only for PS4 too. I'm just relieved I'll be able to play it.
I love Wizardry, and by that I mean the origianl 1-8. After Wizardry 8 (which is my personal fav btw) SirTech went bancrupt, and the IP was sold to Japan. After that they... did things to it. It's not the Wizardry I loved anymore. There is a remake of Wizardry 1 being made, it's in early access right now, and it's looking pretty nice for a remake of a very, very simple game form the early 80's.
I don't usually go for visual novels, but Life is Strange is one of the few exceptions, the first game is definitely worth checking out and if you like that Before the Storm is a decent prequel to the first game.
To be honest i only clicked cause you have Skies of Arcadia in the title. Using the Main base theme for first song and now cruising through a playlist of the main themes for each moon. Im dying with nostalgia.
You getting a like and follow now for being a real one and appreciating the greatness that is Skies of Arcadia. Where's my remake? I'd drop $$$ on a collectors edition.
This is shaping up to be another banger for RPGs! I thinkbI tried playing Wizardry V on SNES. Around the same time that I tried Eye of the Beholder. It was around than time I realized two things: I'm not a fan of first-person and I don't care much for dungeon crawlers. I'm beyond stoked for Expedition 33! I'm also disappointed that we won't be getting it until next year. But if we're getting an experience as polushed as what they showed? It will be well worth the wait!
theres so many rpgs of interest its hard ot keep up with all! Feels like the jrpgs are coming out swinging on both the larger studio side and the indies are really coming into their own with cool stuff. I am cautiously interested in prisma but I also got burnt by Cris Tales, it was a slog to move around, i was okay with the longer battles but I felt they bungled up the story at the end..and ofc killing of the one character I was very interested in and the writing felt lopsided. We had this cool fairytale like logic to work with and going with more abstract themes and I wish they did that with the characters as well and I HOPE the studio has learnt or atleast hired a more coherent writer.
After that vision of mana trailer i cant wait for august 29th mana series deserves how vision looks only bad part its out same day as Gundam breakers 4
Wow, a game I’ve been waiting for for so many years, from a publisher I’ve supported since my childhood, would be so great to play, but apparently NA PS4 users aren’t as important to them as all the countries getting a simple digital release.. fvck off Square.
I wish I could've gotten into Slay the Princess. Artwork wad beautiful, but I just got bored after a couple hours. Maybe I'll give it another shot down the line.
I'm sure Expedition 33 will explain itself and make more sense of its story once it actually arrives for us to experience, but I am somewhat confused... Not even trying to nitpick or anything, but if the main character entourage is 32: would everyone 33 years old be erased this year, and those 32 year olds not be 33 next year when she paints 32? Soooo... would they not be exempt from disappearance? Or does the god kill everyone above the age of what he/she writes as well?
It might actually make the story more interesting if instead of annihilating everyone at or above the age written, people who age a number above the one she will write that year are intentionally overlooked. So ultimately, the total population would be severely reduced- far more so than a Thanos snap taking out 50% randomly- but not entirely eliminated.
Visions of Mana looks super good. Tryna keep my expectations tempered, but I'm getting a pseudo Rebirth + Trials of Mana vibe from it. Also, yikes. Was Cristales that bad? I played the demo and it seemed okay enough. Bought it a bit later, but hadn't gotten around to playing it yet.
Huh, its strange why America is not getting the PS4 version of Visions of Mana considering the fact that it is listed in US Amazon and US Target and that Metaphor Refantazio is getting its PS4 version released in America (digital only though). I think this is Square Enix's attempt to move away from the older console and get people to move on already. I can't blame them, I mean, the PS5 is almost 4 years old and most people still haven't upgraded. Oh well, those who still only have a PS4 and either can't afford and or have no plans on getting a PS5 will either have to resort to importing or changing your region to buy the game digitally. Sorry PS4 users who were interested in buying this game! And Hinna and Julei look so cute and adorable by the way. Their cute faces are so irresistible! Also, Metaphor Refantazio looks to be a potential game of the year of 2024 and it looks really amazing. I am already sold on the game (and Visions of Mana). I am looking forward to picking and playing both games when they release on Switch 2 eventually (hopefully Midori is correct about this since she was exposed to be a persona of an unreliable leaker from years ago, who is male).
Dave, I'm still waiting for you to randomly drop some Final Fantasy 16 PC Release news! I'm 43 and not getting any younger, how long do we have to wait considering they said in March that it, "Is coming soon that we think"????? Lol😂
Minigames killed Final Fantasy for me; 9 had a ton, but they were fine, because you could ignore most, and win by attrition with the rest, but 10 went full-on Wario Ware with it. Haven't played a mainline Final Fantasy since. As for Wizardry, since you've asked, it's on my pile of broken dreams; I really want to play it, but it's too confusing for me to navigate. I don't have any depth perception, and as a result, 3D games can be a bit of a challenge, especially if they're in first-person, so the list of Dungeon Crawlers I've been able to handle is pretty short. Loved Arcana and Shining in the Darkness, though; those clicked with me for some reason.
I love your shirt David! 😆 I love final fantasy games but I can't stand the mini games. The mini games should be optional similar to Like a Dragon and FF-X2
You had me excited about Skies of stuff, but the aesthetic is nothing like the original. It's all chibi and cartoony rather than the nice anime fantasy I was hoping for.
I was so bummed out about Cris Tales because I genuinely loved the artstyle of that game, but because of how poorly it played, it became a bargain bin game. However, I can't support it on Kickstarter due to those facts alone, but I wish them well and hope they learned from their mistakes.

Now I really want a Skies of Arcadia official sequel or at least a remake.
I would love a remaster, but probably not a remake.
A sequel would make me happier than just about anything.

0 chance - Sega closed Valkyria Chronicles & Skies of Arcadia studio in 2011 + Rieko Kodama died

Fingers crossed!

Now wizardly is a stupid phone game no thanks
@@Pichuscute the remake of Wizardry 1 dropped a few weeks ago. It was in Early Access last year.
I've never clicked so fast on a thumbnail in my entire life.

Visions is what i thought legend of mana was gonna be like on ps1
I'm so excited for Visions. I really really hope they stick with the tried and true Mana formula that made the first few games in the series as well as the Trials remake so memorable and fun to play.
Legend of Mana is one of my favorite games of all time and I am beyond excited for Visions.
David: mentions mandatory minigames.
Me: remembers Fancy Mel's Atelier from Treads of Fate back in my youth. 😨
Hopefully Visions can wait a week till payday. $200 is pretty steep but I’m going to jump in on it.
David not having played Life is Strange 1 is like Michael Jordan not having played basketball... not possible!
Not a good idea to play double exposure before 1 lol
Clair Obscur blew me away, it was the game of the showcase for me. I cannot wait!
Hi David! Really looking forward to Sky Oceans and Metaphor. So many rpgs, so little time. AHHH! Have a blessed day!
You too!

Great video David, thank you!. For me, Slay the Princess, Metal Slug Tactics and Demonschool look great!
wtf how are you not 100k subs yet?
Thanks David lots to look forward too have a nice weekend.

Definitely got skies of Arcadia vibes from sky ocean

wait math. if you're 32 now. and 33 just got painted, then next year when 32 gets painted, you'll be 33 and bypass it :D
It's heavily implied that anyone that age or older dies not just that age
After that vision of mana trailer i cant wait for august 29th mana series deserves how vision looks only bad part its out same day as Gundam breakers 4
wizardry daphne isn't available or listed on steam?

Skies and Visions

Thats a good point lol that's a big flaw lol. Unless done at last day of the year lol
lol David your shirt is perfect
Another great video David!
Visions of Mana looks super good. Tryna keep my expectations tempered, but I'm getting a pseudo Rebirth + Trials of Mana vibe from it.

Visions of Mana looks so nice.
JRPGs are really putting a hurt on my wallet this year...
How am I gonna play everything? I'm gonna be up to my neck in shin megami 5 vengeance for months
Thing episode eigis will have third persona evolutions?
Dave, I'm still waiting for you to randomly drop some Final Fantasy 16 PC Release news! I'm 43 and not getting any younger, how long do we have to wait considering they said in March that it, "Is coming soon that we think"????? Lol😂
I must have played cris tales after the update because I felt it was fine
love the way you say Mephisto LOL
Love from Belgium 🇧🇪 ❤
Minigames killed Final Fantasy for me; 9 had a ton, but they were fine, because you could ignore most, and win by attrition with the rest, but 10 went full-on Wario Ware with it. Haven't played a mainline Final Fantasy since.

David, you need some forgiven in your heart. I get it, you been burned too many times but give them a chance. Cristales was no ET 😂
The ps4 exclusion is only for physical copies we are still getting the game digital for ps4 in america. Dont even scare me like that dave 😖
I love your shirt David! 😆 I love final fantasy games but I can't stand the mini games. The mini games should be optional similar to Like a Dragon and FF-X2
I totally agree!
You had me excited about Skies of stuff, but the aesthetic is nothing like the original. It's all chibi and cartoony rather than the nice anime fantasy I was hoping for.
I want all these jrpgs on physical or we got no deal
Persona successors gameplay looks great but the animation and character design looks…rough
$400 for 2 collector's editions or $400 for 5-8 games?
Love the shirt. And your chest... I mean news. :P
I was so bummed out about Cris Tales because I genuinely loved the artstyle of that game, but because of how poorly it played, it became a bargain bin game. However, I can't support it on Kickstarter due to those facts alone, but I wish them well and hope they learned from their mistakes.
U and your hatred of that games 🎉😂😂😂 love it
FUCK YES!!!!!
That shirt tho 😂
Couldn't agree with Rebirth and the minigames any more. The best part of the OG was getting to the Gold Saucer and playing the few minigames they had there. I don't think I spent more than 15 minutes than I had to in the gold saucer in rebirth..
Why is skies of arcadia MIA? No disrespect to this new game but i want arcadia before a spiritual successor
I swear you said Xbox 360 showcase in the beginning… trying to channel better times for the Xbox eh? 😂
Life is Strange 1 is pretty good
but won't you be 33 next year when she paints 32?
wait a sec
i never played life is strange, but it is an rpg?
Basically a visual novel a la until dawn or most of the telltalegames
now i got my Shin megami tensei VV on hand im not gon buy nothing maybe until next year when YS X came out in english
and for metaphor because it made by atlus im not gon buy day one ever again
I want to be excited for Sky Ocean so bad but I can’t get past the art style. It looks like a mobile game and that is such a turn off to me.
Glad I’m not the only one who hates forced minigames 😅
Hi daddy Where's my sugar?!!?? Just kidding I'm straight or am I xD [ no I am ]
I like life is strange but that dlc is some scummy behavior
The writers in Life is Strange are really good, whilst the gameplay may not be to everyones taste (walking simulator), the storyline will keep you engrossed with some genuine wtf!, moments. I personally love the Life is Strange games and they genuinely sit with you after completing the game. I really like the games.
Interesting i tend to give 3 strikes once you strike out with me thats it your dead to me😅
Well... I was gonna get visions of Mana but it's single player.. wtf
You take too long to get to the point.
U take 2 long 2 make a dumb pt.
Quick corretion. Its pronounced Skies of "arcade-ia" not ar"cad"ia.
