the reason FairyTail 2 is action RPG is because even tho people loved the story of fairytail 1 they hated the combat system of fairytail 1 the devs were testing the waters with fairytail 1 people loved the story but hated the combat system and i have a feeling that fairytail 2´s combat system is gonna be similar to what kakarot has which would fit fairytail perfectly the way i see it Fairytail 2 is gonna be the game that fans of entire fairy tail series always wanted because the turn based combat system doesnt fit the narrative of Fairytail

We've had a good 5-6 year run, Ni No Kuni II & DQXI really ushered in a new golden era. Hell, I'd say at this point that it's more akin to the run from the end of the SNES-thru-the end of the PS1.
We're getting even more good stuff than the PS2-era, imo that's the point where things began to dwindle a bit, even if it took til the advent of HD console for the bottom to truly drop out.
Yep! It does feel like the PS2 era, and to some extent, the PS3 area. My only problem with this that there is just too many to play with so little time and money, but I guess its more of a good thing than during the PS2 era, in which there were some that were Japan-exclusive. Right now, rarely are there any JRPGs that are exclusive to Japan, (Yo-Kai Watch for example)

Apparently it's Akitoshi Kawazu's personal favorite and it gets overlooked too much. I hear rumors he might be retiring soon so he probably really wanted his favorite entry to get more love. VERY happy with what I see of it.

First Fairy Tail game is actually in the middle of the manga and anime story, starting with the climax of the eleventh major arc. There's a lot to the series.
If they remade FFL 2 and 3...I'd drop everything to play them. I'm actually replaying the translation patched Saga 2 (FFL2) for the DS presently.

David, when I started watching your videos I was a total Final Fantasy nut who didn't "get" Dragon Quest. Now, I've played through DQ 1, 5, and 11 S and I've preordered the 3HD 2D remake. I totally get it now, and I know it's partially thanks to your passion for the series: thank you, buddy.

That´s great news. If Akutoshi Kawazu made a more accessible game that would be a win for everyone. Just get the rougness out and guide people along, SaGa could compete with Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.

Being an Dragon Quest fan is like the best thing I've ever did. Thanks to DQ8 & DQ11, I'm hunger to play more games. I hope DQ3 Remake; along with 1 & 2 Remake that will be released next year, would do well. I would like an 2D-HD Remake of 4-6, an remake of 9, given DQ10 localized, DQ12, etc. All I want that they take care of Dragon Quest well and getting these games into more recognition in the west as much as they can.
I'm super hyped for Fantasian and Romancing Saga 2. Seems like we are getting some amazing turn based JRPGs. And I get that backlog problem. It's like every day something new gets announced that I get excited for. We are honestly suffering from a luxury problem right now. But who knows how long it will last.
Happy that others are also looking forward to the new Phantom Brave. The first was great, and the announcement got sort of overshadowed due to the number of incredible announcements from that direct.

It´s to hard for me to enjoy too. Visions of Mana and Ys X are action RPGs I´m actualy able to enjoy. But then again I love me some hard Dungeon Crawlers.

Given DQ11 is essentially the beginning of the DQ Timeline they can add a bunch of references in the remakes. Also you have direct links with the ending scene of 11 where it shows the opening to DQ3

There were so many bangers in this Nintendo Direct. I think there were 12 or 14 games that I was super interested in especially the RPG’s and Mario & Luigi.

Phantom Brave got a Wii port that got some new stuff, & then a PSP port that also got some new stuff, and then the new ports are based on that PSP version. So if you've only played the original, it might be worth getting again. The Wii version added an additional story mode that is available from the start on the new ports
Great video. That last story is crazy to me. Can't imagine what a FromSoftware turn based rpg would be like. I'd most likely love it, but I'd be surprised if the game ever became easy, even with grinding.

it's not too much of a surprise that the games announced in the Direct this week aren't available yet for pre-order. Only one that interested me that was available was the Ace Attorney game.
bought Baten Kaitos yesterday, after making sure I could mod back in the English dub. so looking forward to playing the first one again and the second one for the first time!

Soo many bangers lately, us Jrpg fans are eating good! I'm so glad the Saga series is getting some love recently, it's tied with Mana as my favorite Jrpg series. And BOTH are getting lots of attention!

I have never been as disappointed in a game as I was with Enchanted Arms. I took a day off work to play it on release day and it was so bad I took it back after less than an hour of gameplay and traded it back in for a 30 dollar loss (no refunds on open new games).
So excited for DQ 3, Romancing saga 2, Farmagia, brother ship and the hundred line... Also Fantasian

DQ Erdrick trilogy HD-2D remake like it's the definitive version of SNES but Modernized, a New 2D Zelda game and I'm honestly looking forward to Phantom Brave: Lost Hero probably because I like the Art Style and aesthetic
Keep talking that live for Shovel Knight! I just wish they came out with more and I’m a little sad that Yatcht Club hinted that the next game might be 3D. I was hoping for a few more 2D, pixel-art platformers
I've never played mario and luigi and I totally want to give it a try. Interesting that phantom brave 2 sold out already on Amazon. Might be a sign that the physical copy will be hard to get.
I enjoyed the first fairy tail game thought it was gonna be a mousou but thrilled to see it was turn base can't wait for it's sequel but can't wait play DQ 1,2 & 3, Romancing SaGa 2 enjoyed playing emerald but overall it's been a good year for JRPGs and as for Dark souls jrpg id be up for that especially since that series one of the best a jrpg version would sell fast

I think I’ll check out Fairy Tail 2. I enjoyed the Fairy Tail anime as a casual fan, but wasn’t able to play the original game especially when the Switch physical copy became pricey which seems to be the norm with almost all Koei Tecmo Switch games that aren’t a Nintendo IP or Dynasty Warriors 9.
BUTTCRACK TOAST! I loved that game but my sister mishearing and thinking we said we got a new game called buttcrack toast is priceless. Baten Kaitos had me sold with that funky card system as soon as I got milk that could be aged into cheese. That being said though my backlog is getting huge this year. Also if you haven't seen it yet, Wandering Sword is an absolute blast.
We need a remake of saga frontier 1 that becomes a action rpg with similar gameplay to trials of mana remake and make it so whenever you level you not only get stronger but they gotta make it so the enemies dont get harder and stronger as you level up that way level grinding is easier and they gotta ad a casual mode so that level grinding is faster and so its easier to play the game and so we can enjoy the story better on this idea for a saga frontier remake and they gotta make it so the beast class characters stay in their base forms and level up the normal way but can learn enemy skills

@@jaretco6423 I was thrilled at Chrono Cross. I’d be even more thrilled with Chrono Trigger. To me, both games are wonderful. But you’re right; Chrono Trigger is the better of the two.
I prefer action rpg for a fairy tail game. We need the option to play as cute exceeds as an option for creating original characters to play as in an fairy tail action rpg i mean really i would love to be a cute kitty in a fairy tail action rpg
The closest thing so far to Zelda having an attack is throwing rocks at enemies. And if you've ever been HIT by a rock, you know that can hurt like hell. But it doesn't look like she gets any other weapons (at least, from what has so far been released).
RE: Nintendo 1st Party Releases and Amazon
There appears to be some kind of row between Nintendo of America and Amazon (and I think WalMart?) about physical preorders. Since the start of the year, Nintendo has been blocking physical preorders of their 1st party franchise games (so far Princess Peach Showtime!, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door HD, and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD; next effected batch are the games that you mentioned). I think that some other retailers like Target and Best Buy may be unaffected. Since NOA has not publicly commented on why they are doing this, there is only speculation around it. And again, this only affects pre-orders. Once the game is out, you can order physical copies of Nintendo games on Amazon. It is all very weird and very annoying. I actually got TTYD Remake digitally with the Nintendo Voucher system instead of physically because of this.

There's too many great games to look foward to and I have neither the time, nor the money, for most of them. Fantasian and DQIII are must buys, however.
If the Elden Ring creator did something "more traditional" I have a feeling it would make SMT3 feel like a walk in the park.
I've wanted a turn-based game out of Fromsoft for a while now. They're at a point now where they could probably make whatever they want and people would buy it on pedigree alone. Might even make a few new turn based fans at the end of the day!

3/4 through a bottle of Cabernet last night, and I went and preordered the collectors edition of DQ3 for switch. Luckily I woke up this morning and didn’t regret it. I wouldn’t have cared if the Nintendo direct only included this and the RS2 remake. So stoked for both!

So much to unpack here. First, I'm really excited about the Edrick HD-2D trilogy, been so long since it got announced, now we'll be getting it soon enough! Second, I adore how SE has been treating the Saga series recently. Can't believe a few years ago, it was an obscure third-party series. Furthermore, can't really go wrong with a Mario RPG now, so good on this. Also, getting too much Hiro Mashima now, too much. I am no longer a fan of him, so won't be trying any of those games. Lastly, Bandai Namco remasters mostly suck, and they're overpriced. Square Enix & Capcom remasters are way better. Does anyone remember Tales of Symphonia "Remastered"? But overall, a lot of solid info David, well done.

When you look at the credits of FF Mystic Quest and FF Legend 3 you will see a lot of the same names. Makes sense when you realize that they both allow you to jump over annoying NPCs lol

I was shocked they announced a new Phantom Brave. I didn't really enjoy the first though. There was a mechanic that required a lot of grinding to take advantage of.

Now if à son of a gun do that for Vision of Mana, I’ll begin to massively report all this so called influencers and hope they close their channel 😨🥵😡😡😡😡😡 On a brighter note, Zelda in « the legend of Link », her gameplay reminds me Solomon’s key (for the baby out there, you wouldn’t know this name but for a very old man of 48, it is good memories)
