here's the translation of the origin story of Sun Wukong: Origin of Sun Wukong The story of Sun Wukong begins at Flower Fruit Mountain in the Eastern Continent. He was born from a stone that had absorbed the essence of heaven and earth. This stone had existed since the beginning of time, and after thousands of years of exposure to the elements, it finally cracked open, giving birth to Sun Wukong. From the moment he was born, Sun Wukong displayed extraordinary intelligence and courage. He discovered a Water Curtain Cave on Flower Fruit Mountain and led a group of monkeys to settle there, becoming the Monkey King of Flower Fruit Mountain. His leadership skills and fearless nature quickly earned him the respect and admiration of the other monkeys. Learning and Fame In pursuit of immortality and greater power, Sun Wukong decided to leave Flower Fruit Mountain and seek a master to teach him. He went to the Mountain of Mind and Heart, where he became a disciple of the immortal Patriarch Subodhi. Under Subodhi's guidance, Sun Wukong learned the 72 Transformations and the Cloud Somersault, among other magical abilities, and gained immortality. The 72 Transformations allowed him to change into various animals and objects, while the Cloud Somersault enabled him to travel 108,000 li (about 54,000 kilometers) in a single leap. After mastering these skills, Sun Wukong returned to Flower Fruit Mountain to continue his carefree life and used his powers to protect the mountain and the monkeys. Havoc in Heaven Sun Wukong's rebellious nature and immense power soon drew the attention of Heaven. The Jade Emperor tried to appease him by giving him the title of "Keeper of the Heavenly Horses," but Sun Wukong discovered that this position was merely a lowly stable hand. Angered, he returned to Flower Fruit Mountain and declared himself the "Great Sage Equal to Heaven." He then engaged in a series of conflicts with Heaven, including causing chaos at the Peach Banquet and stealing celestial elixirs. At the Peach Banquet, he caused a great commotion, ate a large number of peaches and elixirs, and even defeated many of Heaven's generals. Eventually, the Buddha intervened and imprisoned Sun Wukong under the Five Elements Mountain, ending his rebellion. Sun Wukong's story not only showcases his bravery and intelligence but also reflects his pursuit of freedom and power. His adventures are legendary, making him one of the most well-known and beloved characters in "Journey to the West." I hope this detailed introduction helps you better understand Sun Wukong's character and story.
Until Sun Wukong was rescued by Tang Sanzang from under the Five Elements Mountain, the most important part of the Journey to the West story had not yet begun
the background chanting is actually from Buddhism's Dharani for Rebirth in the Pure Land. Which is mostly used to comfort the dead (& the undead 😂) so that they could go to the next world, the life after, willingly.
Buddha is the god of hell. Before Buddhism came to China, China did not have the concept of hell. But Buddhism has influenced the Chinese people, s concept of life and death. Even the Chinese who do not believe in Buddhism also believe in reincarnation, so the Chinese are afraid of ( cannot be reincarnated as a human being or go to hell) but have to respect Buddhist monks (the only job of monks in ancient China was to funeral and transcend the dead).
