I’m finally ready to talk about WarhammerFest 2023. What I did, who I met, and who ruined my day. I try to stay positive on this channel, but some things just aren’t acceptable. Hope you enjoy my wrap up/review of WarhammerFest 2023, which I attended for the first time as a creator, which is something I will never forget! Being treated as a peer by creators I’ve looked up to for many years was the most surreal experience and just makes me want to work harder on achieving all the crazy goals I have set for myself. Make sure you’re subscribed for the journey ahead!

Just a side note for anyone wondering, I had paid for a ticket to the weekend event and the golden demon entry before being offered a creator pass, so none of my experiences were based on attending a free event-I meant to make this clear in the video!
Had you gone for free, the bar would have been lower and you would have still been disappointed...good on you brother for keeping it real, s0 glad you got to Meet Midwinter and Matt and I hope you can do some collaborations with your new found acquaintances.
Ahhhhhh you sly dog!!! you totally got me l am new to this and was thinking I was getting some gossip lol
I think every person who went to WH Fest said the same thing about it being an absolute shame Black Library authors and GW sculptors and game devs not being there. I hope that some of them are present for future events and it's not just how things are from now on
GW is done letting artists take their shine. It's a corporate, greed machine.
Ye same. I’d love them to be brought back to the next event.
Watching Marco got me into mini painting as a serious hobby during the pandemic. I am pleased he is such a nice guy in real life; I'd be absolutely heartbroken if he was a jerk.
He is so so so nice. Not a bad thing to say about him.
He is as kind as he comes across in his videos. Just a really lovely person.
BREAKING NEWS, games workshop have copyrighted the word queuefest
Wouldn't it be queuefest? Que is Spanish for what, not British for lines.
Hahahahhahaa probably.
😂😂😂
In typical gw fashion, there will be an erata to correct the wording to 'queuefest'
Probably a £20 supplement
Love the ending of the video, you are a hero of the hobby ❤
Far to kind.
I love your anti drama / negativity message. We need more of this 😅
We really do.
It was great to meet you on the day! Although I'm still waking up in cold sweats at the thought of you just pouring all those precious bits into the bin 😱
It was a pleasure meeting you to pal. Im sorry I made you feel so bad about all the poor bits that went into the bin. They shall all be saved from now on. And sent to you.
Boy I need to read the full title next time hahaha I just like hearing about people's experiences at conventions being I am unable to attend sadly Great video as always!
Cheers pal.
Glad you had fun and an overall positive experience. Its always interesting to meet creators and chat them up for a bit.
It was a great time.
The positivity here is just glorious! Must admit, the curiosity of who ruined your experienced pulled me in initially (I'm ashamed to say), but finished feeling uplifted and all glowy to be part of such a darn lovely community. Now to go catch up on your other videos!
Aw thanks so much! I recognise your name from Instagram and your awesome cosplay at warhammerfest! I’m sure we spoke, not sure if you would have been able to see who was talking to you 😄 thanks so much for the kind comment, haha judging by the views lots of people clicked for the drama 😅 glad you got a good vibe from it anyway and hope you enjoy the rest of my videos!
Was lovely to meet you too bud 😁
It was a delight. Hope to see you again.
Great video, meeting Lucas is a dream of mine. That guy has so much talent! Thank you for sharing your experience. While I love watching Squidmar, I find myself coming back to your channel for painting tutorials. Your tutorial on Dante was awesome and I managed to finally get mine finished!
That so kind pal. Thank you so much.
Marco is one of the nicest human beings I have ever met. Like you, I did one of his workshops and I was just blown away by how much I learned in two days, by the fantastic atmosphere he generated and also by the astonishing capabilities of my fellow students. It was a great experience and I can't wait to do another workshop if the opportunity arises. I love the work all you creators do and the effort you put in to make our hobby an amazing experience. Thank you!
He really is so nice. And he is so close to his 100000 silver play button. I’m dying for him to get it.
That was great you were able to meet so many creators and had a great time. I have met a couple of well known modelers and authors and it was a great experience. Neat ending to this. Thanks for sharing it.
Glad you liked it pal.
Glad you had a good time. Its nice to see what different people thought of the event. I was due to go, but had to pull out. Hopefully I will be able to make it next year and meet loads of wonderful people.
Yeah everyone definitely had their own experiences and I think some people made more of it than others. I had a great time, and would love to meet you next year if you’re there, you’re a great presence on twitter(and now yt as well!) and it would be great to chat in person!
@@MediocreHobbies I would love that. Super happy for how well you have done this last year. An inspiration. Thank you for the kind words!
😂😂😂😂 that James guy!! Good to hear the table top tactics guys are nice i absolutely love there channel
There the nicest. I love them. One of my hobby dreams is be a guest in one of there battle reports.
God bless you man! Your outlook is to be admired. I wish my 8 years with GW didn't leave a sour taste in my mouth and a heart attack. Keep up the positivity. That's why I subscribed to your channel. Cheers
That’s so kind pal. I hope your doing better now.
Excellent message!
Cheers pal.
Lovely video - great to see such a positive message. Glad you had a great time, Andy.
Cheers pal.
I heard that James Workshop was at the entrance each morning and would greet families with children but would not let them enter until he made their children cry. And then he was yelling that it was better than coffee to start his morning. I'm just telling you what I heard.
Well that explains both the noise and the queues! I heard he kept re rolling dice while walking by tournament tables. And spraying paint remover in the golden demon cabinets
Glad you had a great time. My goal is to make it to one of these events eventually, lol. My biggest event of each year is AdeptiCon, but living in the US, I would love to jump the pond and make to Warhammer World, or even Warhammer Fest one day. Keep up the great content.
I’d kill to go to adepticon it’s my dream.
@@MediocreHobbies If you ever did come to AdeptiCon, it would be cool to meet you.
😂 You got me good! I was actually shocked by the title but thoroughly enjoyed the 'reveal' lol
For real, I think the guy who plays that particular character, as well as characters in Black library audiobooks is amazing. Keep up the great work!
Be cool if you and the Broadsword crowd in Mayo ever did a collaboration! You could meet halfway in...I dunno, Mulingar or something 😂
Hahahaa I’d love to do somthing with them. There so nice. And they make great content.
Skip to 16:27, if you want to know which guy ruined his experience. Side note: Its clickbait.
Thanks for watching 😄
Is that all it was. Nice.
@@MediocreHobbies Realize that we live in a world of 2 very nasty things that annoy the shit out of everyone: Those who virtue signal too hard, and those that waste our time. Time is money, friend.
Should fwd this to discourse minatures every post she makes is negative clickbait
Yeah, the WORST YT warhammer channel by far. Even manages to eclipse SpikeyShitz in terrible clickbait and shit opinions
Isn’t this one the same then?
@@anegativeatheist-9327 nope, because if you actually watched it, there was no negative person. He used it to teach a lesson about falling for it.
Hahahahsha cheers.
TBF I've found Discourse tends to have examples of stuff to back up their claims. Probably one of the better researched of all the negative channels. I just can't stand the presentation and constant negativity.
Glorious!
😄 thanks!
Thanks for the content creator coverage. There were names that 'I guess I live under a rock lol' as I hadn't heard of them and will be checking them out.
Ye do pal. There really
Good.
Glad you had fun. I didn't read the title, i just clicked to see your reaction to WH-Fest. 😁 I already subscribe to all of the CC's you met. Man, I need a life. Lol. Great video my friend
Na man your a true hero be subbed to them all. Supporting content creators is so important.
Only seeing this now, surprise surprise, james is the only one I've never heard of..... and I am already subscribed to most of the channels listed below.
HahahHa I’m hoping you know it’s a joke.
@@MediocreHobbies So what you are really telling us is that you have an imaginary friend and he's not very nice, 🤔🤔have you considered professional help for this? 😉
You are the best! ❤
Hahahaj thanks.
I love your videos man :)
Appreciate that pal.
You got me I came for the drama, left with the positivity! You win, I win!
Great video!
Wins all ‘round 🙌 Thanks so much, glad you liked it!
I actually avoided clicking this video at first because one- knee jerk reaction to "clickbaity" titles, and two- I feel drama really has no place in the hobby. I just wanna paint cool things and do cool things with them. I saw it on my homepage again and reminded myself Mediocre wouldn't stoop so low as that. I loved your thoughts on things. You can criticize constructively for certain things but at the end of the day we're all just trying to do cool things man. Thanks for putting that out there! Glad you enjoyed your time. I'd love to take a class from NJM as well if I'm ever able to, he's a massive inspiration and one of the best teachers on this platform.
Appreciate it pal.
Spot on with the end of the vid. I clicked on it not for the hate but because it’s you. Keep up the excellent work
Thank you pal.
Great vid as ever, looks like you had a whale of a time. Also I'm 100% on board with the positivity message. This hobby is supposed to be fun and rewarding and to help us step away from the day to day grunge of life. ❤
That’s exactly how I feel.
you are my go to for world eaters paint scheme and tricks. been waiting about your vid on warhammer fest and i thought you didn't went there. amazing video as always!
Glad you liked the videos.
Marco is amazing. Love his work and videos. Humorous as well. 😅
He’s awesome, I love his energy as well!
He is insanely good.
@@MediocreHobbies “Allo evry bodee!”
I saw James Workshop at a Warhammer store in London yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn't want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, "Oh, like you're doing now?"
I was taken aback, and all I could say was "Huh?" but he kept cutting me off and going "Huh? Huh? Huh?" and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Space Marine Heroes blindboxes in his hands without paying.
The neckbeard at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like, "Sir, you need to pay for those first." At first, he kept pretending to be tired and not hear him, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When the neckbeard took one of the blindboxes and started scanning it multiple times, James Workshop stopped him and told him to scan them each individually 'to prevent any electrical infetterence,' and then turned around and winked at me. I don't even think that’s a word. After he scanned each blindbox and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting by yawning really loudly.
I knew it. #canceljamesworkshop
Legend! Great Video! 😄😄 I totally agree with your view of the Hobby!
Cheers pal. So many people seem to agree. Let’s try push it as far as we can.
I cannot believe Matt from MWG was there and I didn't get to meet him. Gutted beyond belief.
He was super low-key, had to stare a few times to make sure it was really him before I said hi! Hopefully he’ll be back next year!
"This guy ruined my experience!" -- What did Guy from Midwinter Mini do now?! xD
That guy… 😅
Awwww don’t be mean lol
It’s declined
I actually assumed it was a joke, since everyone in the community seems so supportive of each other... :)
It was and they really are. It’s such a great group of people.
Mate, well played!
Hahah cheers pal.
I was just waiting for you to say "XYZ ruined it for me because they weren't there" or "Sadly we had to cut the talk short due to event A"
Hahahaha no.
Great summary of your experience!
I hope I can make it to one in the future.
-John
I hope so to pal. It’s good fun.
Found your channel by accident. You got a new subscriber. Cheers from a fellow painter/Warhammer collector from Germany
Thank you. I appreciate it.
@@MediocreHobbies 😊
I remember going to a Warhammer con back in 1991 at Derby Assembly Rooms. Loads of shop stands, painting workshops and talks.
Spotted Jervis Johnson and got starstruck, so asked my mate to get his autograph! I shouldn't have worried, he signed away
Aw yeah they’re so nice, wish we could still meet people like that these days
Damn that James Workshop :D
I’m telling you. Watch out for that snake.
That badge is so cool. Love that idea. A nice momento.
Ye it was so much fun
Counterpoint is, if someone is a jerk, telling people about that jerk can help them avoid interacting with that jerk. So.
Not necessarily true. The person could be just be having a bad day or received bad news or themselves just had a bad interaction with somebody and could then come off poorly to the next person. I don’t think they should then be slandered all over the internet. Positivity Always.
@@MediocreHobbies That's a fair point.
Loved your message! Keep being positive!
Appreciate it pal.
Knew it was click bait but I was hoping that you'd be better than that and you were
Hahaha thanks pal.
You're so great. Had me going. Keep doing what you do.
Hahaha thanks pal. Appreciate it.
LOL, I don't even know who the arrogant SOB was that you had a bad experience with so hope that gives you a chuckle. LOL
It does.
Keeping it positive 👍 good to see you had a good time
Thank you pal.
Great video! I was SO worried your channel was taking an (unwelcome) turn to negativity but of course you came through in hilarious fashion. Thank you.
Glad you trusted me pal. Appreciate it.
Great video 👍
Cheers pal.
Not gonna lie, in the first half you got us there.
Haha hope you didn’t mind being tricked too much 😂
I'm glad you hold guy in such high regard I loved the part where he abandoned his wife and twin infants high and dry for a trailer park 6 swell fella really
First of all how am I supposed to know this information about him?
And second I like his little painting videos.
What ever these people do in there private lives is none of my business. I don’t go digging around the internet looking for gossip.
@@MediocreHobbies I'm not mad at you kinda just pissing in the wind solid video btw
Loved the honest review of warhammer fest. Think your the first review to mention there could of been more. I personally felt that and was glad to be in a tournament. More regret was not trying to talk to content creators.
Always talk to them. It’s such a fun experience getting to chat to as many people in the community as possible.
And here I was hoping it was that you had a punch on with Peachy and Duncan in the carpark.
Hahahaha I could never hurt those two. There hobby hero’s.
What a ray of sunshine, brilliant. I'm off to slap chop a happy little ork Bob "waagh" Ross style. 😂
Hahaha yes. Enjoy pal.
I only got to attend the last day of Fest, but I enjoyed it. Haven’t been to one in a while and it was a great time, but i did miss the talks and getting to chat With designers as you mentioned.
James Workshop is a menace to society snd must be stopped! (Apart from their Christmas Ads, they are brill).
Hahaha ok we shall let him away with the Christmas adds.
Being honest, I clicked the video because I recognized everyone in your thumbnail, except you. Great video, you got a subscribe out of me.
Hahahhahaha thanks.
Thank you for this One! Italians can paint!
😄
Thanks for getting out there and sharing your experience. There are a lot of people like me, long-time or newer fans of WARHAMMER that will probably never get to go to an event like this for a million different reasons. I've been enjoying the videos from ROGUE HOBBIES, DISCOURSE MINIATURES and now yours. I've been to many comic/game cons in my area and they can be expensive and overwhelming. I don't plan very well, and usually these things need planning! I guess you'd need an audio book or mobile video games if you are planning in standing in 2-4 hour lines! We call them lines in 'merica.
Yea for sure. Some small games in the Que would really help I think.
Epic vid, can't believe you clickbaited me 😂. Extra special message at the end and I totally agree
Hahah cheers pal.
Great to see you going around and shaking hands with so many incredibly cool people. The lasertag idea sounds super cool.
The point you make at the end is very true. Clickbait is what we call it and it is lame. It's about as old as UA-cam is and it just doesn't seem to go away. It just gets more prevalent somehow.
Honestly it’s all about trying to get eyes on your videos. Think of them as posters for a movie. You want People engaged and curious. Some people take it way to far. But it does breed success.
The wait was worth it.
A lesson learned.... Again, let us hope it stickes this time😅
I really do hope so.
Guilty as charge. But great video. I live in the states so seeing these videos I get to somewhat experience the events.
Glad you liked it.
Great shout outs to lots of content creators.
Cheers pal. There great.
Do they still have Q&A at these events because I would absolutely roast them on their ridiculous prices.
Hahahaah at some things they do. It’s nothing they haven’t heard before.
The only creator not on my list was Tabletop Tactics. I will definitely be checking them out, thanks for the video!
Oh yes please do, love those guys!
That was great. Thank you for this video.
Anytime pal.
Love the PMA man, and your channel. My Valhallans have you to thank for their duckboard trenches that keep them safe.
Glad you liked them pal.
Came here because of a certain Twitter post. You created quite the little storm lmao! Very nice review.
Hahaha I didn’t start it 😅 thanks for checking out the video and glad you enjoyed it!
I will click on what I like thank you very much. If I like to see how other people deal with challenge. Perhaps we can approach challenging behaviour positively. Sadly, that is not here. NEVER MIND. 😅
Hahahaha yes sure. That’s why you click on those videos. To see how they deal with challenges. Who you fooling.
Cannot understand how you could say there was so much going on.
There was hardly anything going on and the queues were massive. It wasn’t filled up well - there were massive empty spaces. 3 hours to queue for 10th at best. 3 hours to paint a Space Marine.
If you had a free pass and free events: great. But that’s not the experience of the other 99% of people who attended.
Please don’t feed into the false narrative that this was a successful event. At best, it validates the awful effort GW put into this and at worst, it’ll end up with people in the future suffering this kind of thing in good faith.
It was utterly dreadful.
Thank you.
When I heard that there was only about 5 tables set up to demo 10th ed, makes me feel not so bad about living in the US and likely never being able to attend one of these. I don't see it as a negative thing to ask a large production company like GW simply PLEASE DO BETTER.
@@MediocreHobbies No offence intended, but I worry for the people in the comments who might spend a lot of time and money attending a future Warhammer Fest based on this commentary. Valrak’s summary is spot on. All the best.
You got me and I got your message
Hahah I’m glad.
Thanks for that, haha. I was really hoping this was how it would end. 😂
Appreciate you man, too many people were annoyed by it 😂😂
Warhammer Fest 2023: “We care about you at a level just below meeting you. “
No idea what you’re trying to say there but thanks for the comment 😄
Gotcha ! Thanks to your title, it made me discover your channel !! 😂
Awesome dude glad to hear it.
😂😂😂 you are my new hero! ❤
Hahahah cheers pal.
NOT JUST MECHA!!!!
Yessss love that guy!
I agree and disagree about the negativity, there is such a thing as toxic positivity too . But yeah certain channels are all negative.
Id rather be toxically positive then negative. I love a happier life that way lol.
James Workshop 'devil may care' attitude can be misconstrued as arrogance
Hhahaha it sure can.
If only all clickbait was this fun and great content. I’ll admit when I saw Guy, Rogue, Lucas and what looked like Marco, I was was “ can’t be them” … well played, great message and you you got yourself a new sub ✌️
Cheers pal. Glad you liked it. And thanks for the sub.
Did James Workshop really act like that? Like I can't tell if you're saying that out of satire or a joke, or if you're actually being 110 percent dead serious...
If he did actually act like that, that actually really disappoints me because I was actually really a fan of his, because he actually made everything actually quite funny let some of the Games Workshop videos, but if he's going to act like that... That's just disappointing.
No James is not a real person and he was not at warhammer fest. It was just a bit of fun.
Honestly, I consider both you and Guy from midwinter to be on about the same level, both extremely awesome, and very skilled. The only real difference I see in you both, is that while you're a very positive person, you present the painting from a technical level (which I really appreciate), whereas Guy whilst still a bit technical, comes from the direction of having fun, and doing it kind of however. And example would be between your wonderfully technical Drukhari Archon (showing us how to paint it like the GW images), vs Guy's how pink can we make these Drukhari video. Both awesome, and really helpful, just a difference in style. Honestly I really love your "This is how you do it right" videos.
That’s so kind thanks pal. And yes solid points. My come back to that would be his pink video would then me more of an entertainment video as apposed to an educational one. I doubt many people are going away painting up his scheme army wide.
@Mediocre Hobbies oh 100% right. Yours are far more helpful and educational
Not gonna lie, you got me with your video title.
Hahahaha cheers.
@@MediocreHobbies Cheers have a nice day!
Groovy! Thanks for the lowdown, any other paint competition good for beginner?
Try some of the instagram once. There great for beginners.
Haha you got me good! 😂 Pleased you had such a great time!
Hahaha sorry.
There are other creators (I won't mention names) that made it sound like their creator pass gave them exclusive time with devs, where said devs would Kiss thei...errr I mean spend quality time with them. Thanks for setting it straight.
It very much did not do that. Not sure why they make it seam that way.
Absolute perfection, could not agree more.
Thank you.
Brilliant!!!!!
Hahaha cheers.
Great video and love your message !
Thanks pal.
I have yet to hear anything bad about the content creators towards each other. Only criticism towards GW. Good stuff!
Hahaha you should watch the video.
Looks like your time there was smashing! Also the end is so relatable, focusing way too much on community drama then the actual hobby itself.
Ye I had a blast. And ye I just prefer more positive interactions in the hobby.
had me up till the end.... got a good laugh!!!! Dropped a subscribe to your channel.
Hahaha cheers pal. Appreciated it.
That was so so worth it 😂, i laughed my ass off. I clicked your vid because it was the first thing to come up on my you tube. Thanks for the recommendations, i already most of them. I wouldn't expect anything less from James 😂
Hahaha glad you enjoyed it.
Great uno reverse card there my man. Have a subscription!
Haha cheers man!
