- Talking Prisoner Cell Block H EP 42 Interview with Desiree Smith Officer Delia Stout
Welcome to Episode 42 of Talking Prisoner. Hosts Ken Mulholland and Matt Batten sat down with Desiree Smith who played Officer Delia Stout in the final year of Prisoner. Desiree appeared in forty two episodes of Prisoner and also appeared in Neighbours and in Australian movie the Delinquents alongside Kylie Minogue. Ken and Matt discussed with Desiree her life growing up, everything from home life and school and how she was able to get into acting. Desiree appeared in the 1989 Australian movie called the Delinquents which was directed by Chris Thomson and was Kylie Minogue’s first movie, Desiree spoke to Ken and Matt about this movie in great detail and how she got the part of Mavis and what it was like to work alongside Kylie Minogue, we then moved on to Neighbours, Desiree played Angela in Neighbours in 1985 and we spoke about Desiree’s time on Neighbours. Desiree was able to share with Ken and Matt about her time on Prisoner and how she got the part of playing Officer Delia Stout and what she thought about the officers uniform. Desiree was able to share with us what it was like to work with Philip Hyde who played Officer Rodney Adams and Michael Winchester who played Officer Marty Jackson and the storyline she would have liked to have seen for Delia and Marty. Desiree shared with us a story about Maggie Kirkpatrick and the Non-Smoking Green Room. Desiree talks about the similarities between her and Delia and we also spoke in detail about the work experience boat episodes and the sports day episodes. Desiree spoke about her favourite episode and storyline and what it was like to work with Rosanne Hull-Brown who played Merle Jones. Desiree was also able to share her memories on working with cast and crew who are no longer with us anymore such as Gerda Nicholson, Joy Westmore, Taya Straton, Justine Saunders, and Kendal Flanagan. We also spoke about why Delia Stout just disappeared from Wentworth. You will all be pleased to know that there is a part 2 in where Desiree is able to answer all fan questions. Desiree sounds like a lovely person and so bubbly….I am pleased she is proud of her East London roots. My Mum is a Londoner too. Thanks Ken and Matt
So excited for part 2! I’ve connected with Desiree and might just be able to make that Eastenders appearance happen! 😉
Now this sounds exciting 🙂
What a lovely lady she is her smile is infectious, she was fab in Prisoner and The Delinquents .
Lovely human being. Heart like a pot of gold. Great humility and gentleness. Hugs for all
Thanks for your kind words Shawn, I am going to show these comments to Desiree.
@@TalkingPrisoner I'm a huge Prisoner fan and I really enjoy watching Talking Prisoner. I watch Prisoner on UA-cam before I go to bed. You wouldn't think all these years later Prisoner is still very popular. The acting Calabria is set at very high standard and all the cast and crew are Just amazing. Thank you Ken and Matt for doing these videos with the cast and crew of Prisoner.
Hugs for Desiree and a big thank you to you all.

Really enjoyed and she is such a delight!
Thanks Bonnie.
I knew Desiree for a short time in my teen years going through a phase on the streets. Desiree, a young girl herself and I believe doing hairdressing at the time, gave free haircuts to street kids. She had a big heart and a lot of inner light back then too.
Well i must say Desiree is just brilliant,What a great interview,Again Ken and Matt,Thank you.
Thanks so much Richard. Have you seen all the interviews yet ?
And the director is .... drum roll... Alister Smart
Thanks for saving me some research
So glad to hear about a part 2. Gutted I'm unable to attend the event in August and not get a cuddle from Desiree lol....hope there will be more to come...she seems like an amazing person....so genuine...clearly very spiritual and loved her thoughts on life etc....
Thanks for your kind words. We have a number of events coming up so hopefully you can make one of them.
This was great. Can't wait for part two. Since everyone keeps mentioning Paula, surely there's talks to interview her?
Have you watched part 2 yet ?
@@TalkingPrisoner Yes I have! It was brilliant!
I just love her, so glad there is going to be a part 2!
Thanks for the kind words. Have you seen part 2 yet ?
Great interview. Desiree's story about her school uniform reminded me when I had a sweat shirt with the letters "sweat shirt" in small letters on it and my step dad pulled some letters off so it spelled "eat shit" I was only about 8 years old naturally the kids at school gave me a hard time over it.
Did you suffer any bullying at school ?
@@TalkingPrisoner I did sadly and even at university too as I wasn't considered one of the "cool" people. Watching "Prisoner" at school in particular was an escape from the hell of school and unhappy homelife. My local tv station (tyne tees) messed about with the show but generally late night on a Thursday on my black and white portable was my escapism
Such a beautiful person Desiree is! So humble and down to earth. Loved her in Moving Out back in the early 80s she was the funniest ever!
I remember her and Trudi from the old Carlton Cheer Squad days :)
Great interview and certainly no gaps in the conversation!
Thanks so much Stuart. Happy to hear you enjoyed.
She’s a lovely lady, friends with her on Facebook.
She is so sweet and amazing! Love you Desiree! #Delia
Desiree is one of the sweetest.
Great interview, such an amazing person
Thanks for your kind words Jack. Did you enjoy the last season of Prisoner ?
Dunstable massive in the house!
Fantastic again. I hope some of these stars can visit all of us English Prisoner fans sometime.
We do hope to have some events in the Uk in the near future. Please subscribe to our Facebook page for updates.
Why am I just finding out she went to Greenwood High School ! I went there too. Once she mentioned she grew up in Bundoora, and the uniform I had to Google a couple of things and low and behold I found some links, she’s from Class of 76-82... If I had known earlier I would have approached her at the Greenwood High reunion back in November 2022. I’m much younger. I finished year 12 in 1994. I would love to have had a good ol yarn with her.
Well, that was fun!! More like a relaxed chit chat!
I did forget at times we were doing an interview. It was fun.
Great Interview Guys
Thanks so much Mark. Have you watched all the interviews so far ?
Will you guys be taping the Prisoner event in August?
We are going to try and record it for international viewers.
Totally lovely lady ! So much fun
Thanks for the kind words. Did you enjoy the last season of Prisoner ?
@@TalkingPrisoner I did, the only season I get a bit frustrated with is the season before with some silly characters (Quenie Marshall and her gang with Nikki lennox was so far fetched, may and willie on the run, Nora; Jennifer hartly and her nana; the PMT stuff with that terrible character with the plants) I will try and revisit these episodes to see if I can get the love back 😍
What a sweetie she is ❤️ A breath of fresh air after Carol Drouyn 😁. Seriously she is gorgeous. Keep going lads and drink beer 🍺
Much love for Coral by me - Matt
Desiree is delightful and such a kind soul!
When I read the reunion in August was in Richmond, I was so pleased to attend. But then I read it was Richmond, Melbourne not Richmond, Sydney! Matt and Ken, arrange a reunion next time in Sydney, and I’m sure you’ll get huge attendance.😊
Thank you Peter, we will try at some stage 🙂
Lovely lovely lady an English Rose, i loved Delia Stout :)
EastEnders and Coronation street have both run their course and have done to death every story line there is. Both are now miserable shows to watch with no humor anymore and should have been pulled years ago.
Do you still watch Neighbours ?
@@TalkingPrisoner No. I never watched Neighbors - just never really got into it. I used to like Home and Away but that was years ago. But I was a huge Sons and Daughters fan ... I would watch Corrie again if they brought back Bet Lynch / Julie Goodyear - but it seems unlikely.
Talks as much as Coral Drouyn
And the problem about that is? If you have stories and a platform. You can tell those stories.
At least she is not rude, narrow minded, and obnoxious like Coral Drouyn.
Desiree is the nicest person you could meet I have met her twice and the stories she tells as always so fascinating
@@lamontbradford4630 Agree totally. She is adorable.
A lot better.
