I remember well Celtic Ryde winning that race , yes of course I backed him but that’s not the reason it’s so important to me , it was when I was finally convinced he belonged in that group of 6 or 7 grade 1 two mile hurdlers who were capable of lifting the best races around - it was a tragedy he didn’t get to prove how good he could’ve been and for a relatively small stable like Peter Cundells it must’ve been a crushing disappointment . I’ll always be a huge fan of his brilliant finishing kick and Francome was made for him to be seen at his best . Top work sir putting that one first , I’m hugely grateful ✊ 👍🏴
Thanks Jay.I know he was one of your favourite horses and great comments.Yes could have won a Champion Hurdle definitely.Tragic when he fell at Haydock.
@ can’t remember anything about that day and seem to have blocked it out as I couldn’t have sworn which course it was - like the Bee Gees said .. ‘ Tragedy’..😧 👍🏴
If I’d had that famous royal ascot “Sonic gun” I’d have fired it at that big rogue Harchibald that day ! I backed Rooster booster in all his big wins and even though he was also second in a number of huge races he was such a tough and determined horse I desperately wanted him to hang on here for a late career highlight . Harchibald was talented but was a bigger rogue than Dick Turpin 😅 👍🏴
Ekbalko was pulsating that day 😅 Hadn’t seen the Dawn run one before , fantastic 👌 And couldn’t remember seeing Brownes Gazzette either - sweeet 👍🏴
@ cracking question DB.. I’m a mahoosive fan of CH but likewise Faugheen at the height of his powers was similarly imperious . It smacks of Night Nurse and Monksfield, basically nothing between ! One bad jump or a slight difference in going or a jockey error would decide it imho . So what I’m saying is EITHER might win on any given day .. but boy it would be pulsating ! 👍🏴
Great to see Harchibald mentioned twice, especially in that master class ride by Paul Carbery against Rooster. I thought people only remembered Harchibald for the races he lost !! 😅❤
Can never see enough of Celtic Ryde beating Birds Nest who were very evenly matched and there was a 3lb penalty carried i recall by the latter .I must confess I would rather watch the race between Ekbalco and Broadsword every year than Constitution Hill win at 1-12 !
@@HorseRacingLegends I suppose I am saying it maybe should have though from the best winners of the race.. Flown was beaten by five lengths in second and has won the Supreme Novice Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival earlier in the year although it counted as the season before. Granville Again was third and went on to win the Champion Hurdle later on in the season. King Credo was fourth and then won the Tote Gold Trophy Hurdle next time and was fourth in the Champion Hurdle the time after that. Oh So Risky was fifth and was a previous Triumph Hurdle winner and then was beaten ½L in the Champion Hurdle by a horse that essentially won the Gold Cup in the Flat at Royal Ascot. And previous Champion Hurdle winner Kribensis was 6th.
That sir was the PERFECT vid for me - thanks so much for that ✊
👍🏴
Glad you enjoyed it Jay.Fast and furious
@ yep- right up my alley 👌
👍🏴
I had totally forgotten about harchibald and rooster. Look at the gap to the rest. Great video, thanks my friend.
Thank you so much.
What an age of brilliant horses
Yes unbelievable really.
Faugheen in his absolute pomp! Never outta 3rd gear
👍🏴
Cruising.

Yes I’m sure it was in the champion hurdle trial.

Yes can’t believe he caught him.Was a hurdle ahead at halfway.

Yes amazing horses Jay.
Great to hear GG's commentary :)
Definitely
Constitution hill v Faugheen ? Now THAT would’ve been an epic Christmas hurdle !! Proper pub argument scenario that one 😅
👍🏴
Definitely Jay.
@ 😀
👍🏴
How would you price it up?

I’m pricing it up 4/9 Constitution Hill and 15/8 Faugheen.

Faugheen was a brilliant hurdler and the second best hurdler among those shown, but CH was in a class all by himself.
What a horse

That’s not his fault.
@@HorseRacingLegends Agreed but I miss the Competitive era of the late 70's and early 80's when picking the winner was often a complex puzzle
If they all turn up this year and the king is back it should be a decent race.Could be the best race we have seen for a few years fingers crossed.
Go on Binocular!! Couldn’t stand Rock on ruby fir some reason 🤷♂️
👍🏴
Yes I never took to him either.
@ probably a wife beater and petty thief away from the track .. 😳
🤣
👍🏴
Brownes gazette The bent jockey blew the 85 champion hurdle
Mighty Mogul 1992.
Good Horse but never made it into this particular list.

The form definitely stacked up a shame he got injured.Always remember him as a stayer for some reason.
