- In today's furniture makeover, I take scraps from my hoard of shame 😂 and something I found at the Dollar Tree. The motivating factor behind this build comes from Mel @coloredcaboosecreations who is co-hosting a challenge from the lovely Krystal @thekraftycreech Playlist • Unique Antique Challen... Love this idea and it got me started on a project I've been wanting to do for my lovely neighbor. Enjoy the journey xx

This is a wonderful idea for outdoor cats. My Daughter and her husband do the same thing as your neighbor. I'm going to share this with them.

My cats would love this. I would suggest letting it sit for a few weeks away from the cats so all the smells can disappear.
Fab idea. I haven’t given it to her yet but I can wait and other few weeks. I may even sit it out in the sun and see if that helps
Cool cat house. The rug on the side for the cats to scratch on was a superb idea. Your neighbor will love it.

love the kitty condo. if you have not given it to her yet. put it outside on a table and air out the smell of poly and paint inside. the smell is strong and kitty may not go in till it is not so strong. you gave me ideas on making one for my 2 girls.

Oh I got mine from Amazon here in the States. Bunnings does have the Kreg jigs but the newer model and they are from about $189AU which is about what I paid for the older model. They are not cheap but you are right they are super handy and worth the $$ to me especially since I build a fair bit.

I love the cat condo. I reckon the cats will love it too. So funny, my kids went to Dublin today for the pride parade and when they came home they were showing me what they bought. My son bought me two pairs of shorts bless him. He also bought himself a backpack and slid it out from beside his chair to show me. As he slid it I thought "oh it must be good quality, there seems to be some weight to it". Then he opened it (it was unzipped) out to show me the inside and thee was a little Willow kitty half asleep wondering why she was being disturbed!! She wouldn't need a condo. Just a bag. Preferably a cooler bag for some reason. She has taken over mine and basically lives in it under the kitchen table. I'm gonna have to buy another one as I can't use that one for my shopping any more. Your neighbour is amazing for looking after the stray kitties. If I had my way the house would be full of strays. My kids keep me in check. I was trying to lure a little kitten into the house this evening!

Your kitty’s sound just like my kids when they were little and we’d buy them expensive toys but all they wanted to play with was the cardboard box 😂😍

I too take care of neighborhood feral kitties. I built a house but they wouldn't use it. Local lady who runs a cat colony said the house must have more then one opening to go in and out. A way to escape in case a predator gets in...ie...snake, small dog, fox...etc. So I built the same one as you, but add a 3rd compart and had openings on the first and last compart. Stuffed it with straw, not hay and kitties use it now.

This is great. I'm sure at least one of the cats will think so too, although they're very fickle creatures😸. I'm not sure I got how you glued the scratch panels down, but it sounded like you only glued at the top and down the sides?? Cats can really go to town when scratching, so if it's not glued at the bottom and it's a bit loose or flappy, it might be hard for them to get their claws out of it. My cat was always wreaking his scratching post by pulling the rope off. I was forever regluing it😼😆
Oh thanks so much Deb. I glue them with titebond but also as a back up I glue the edges with the Starbond CA glue. Double glued 😆 hopefully that works but you know like you said cats pulling on it make make it come loose. Happy to reglue if I have too 🥰

You know my inspo was just that. I think it costs $600ish 😲😳 and I wondered if it would make a good bed. So far the cats love it. Sadly Tom Tom hasn’t gotten to enjoy it bc Ginger took over 😆
Hi Sara, lovely video. I love the cat box, but I dont understand how the cat will let itself in and out of the section which opens and closes with the hinges.
Hey Gail 🥰 the open part on the left is how it will get in and out. I put the smaller board there to create a “hallway” and at the end is the opening to the bed. Sorry that wasn’t clear. Hope that helps. Have a beautiful week friend

Great idea to put the scratching carpet on the sides :-D Just a bit concerned about the screw sticking out the back of the knob in case it injures the cat. Maybe they are too smart for that IDK.
I’m going to grind that down maybe create something to cover it up. Thanks for pointing that out lovely

Definitely will do my neighbor came home but another person suggested I wait till all the smells disappear with those top coats so I’m going to set it out and let nature do it’s thing but then I will take it over.

Consider a sheet of metal or roofing for the top and a thin piece of insulation inside on the floor and sides. I’ve done that with my dog houses. You can use a cheap window, car shield, or a piece from a roll. Purchased from Lowe’s or Home Depot. I would suggest putting the hinge on the side so that when you open it up it’s out-of-the-way when you brush or scrub the inside. The debris will not get stuck in the hinges. It’s a cute, thoughtful, kitty abode. I love the slats for air circulation, and a slight slope would allow the water to runoff. You have such a kind heart! I love your personality you are very entertaining.
