Bryce on Being Saved by Grace Line Upon Line

  • Building on Nephi’s comment that “it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do,” (2 Ne. 25:23), Bryce here explains that that is not a one-time interchange. We are NOT required to go as far away we possibly can and then (and only then) does Christ step in to help. Rather, it happens in small increments over time. Nephi describes the process as happening “line upon line” (2 Ne. 28:30)

The temple imagery of your light analogy is beautiful! An increase of light as we got from telestial to terrestrial to celestial.

Just my thoughts from my own experience, and that is that the grace we receive from Christ is more than just more light in response to obedience. It is the increased power to obey. This grace, for me, has only come through struggling and striving in the depths of humility, begging God to help me overcome weaknesses I just couldn't seem to overcome on my own. Then, when I tried as hard as I could, strength came to me.

in my PB blessing God told me that I was on Lucifer's Hated List because I had upset him by being a member of the Church. Lucifer did not view me as just a normal member though I tried to convince him that I am just normal hoping this would cause him to back off and let me progress like everybody else but Lucifer wasn't buying it..
But because I have a touch typing ability so God put that to work for the dead so Lucifer wasn't convinced that I was ordinary. Because of that touch typing ability I had I was able to collect up many of the dead.. So mass Genealogy and Temple Work Activity is the main factor as to why Lucifer is angry and was opposing me with his powers of opposition to my own personal progress in the church.
God told me the reason why hes been frustrating me with endless checkmates with chasing me all around like a Pacman Ghost on the chessboard trying to block my moves and why hes been trying to shut down any progress I make and it is because Lucifer doesn't want me influencing anyone in the church..Hes angry because at the command of God with my special typing ability I had upset him when I went and extracted thousands of names for the temple of all my direct and collateral lines.

You do a great job of emphasizing how we receive more light when we obey. What many people in the church misunderstand is that we don't earn our way into heaven. We are saved by grace. Making covenants provides the required connections that we all need. It is required to make and keep covenants; however we need to make it clear that it is by grace that we are saved. We need to rely wholly upon the merits of the atonement and the grace of Jesus Christ to be saved.

I love your thoughts on 2 Nephi 28:30. This is how the Lord leads us gently and gradually along, He gives us as much as we are willing to receive. “Receive” is the key word and he defines what that means when He says they “hearken unto my precepts, and lend an ear unto my counsel,” and therefore, “they shall learn wisdom” and receive more light. He says He will give more to those who “receive”, but from those that that won’t receive, because they think they have enough, it will be taken away. He doesn’t say He will take it away, but that it will be taken away. I think we give it away through neglect. We show, through our lack of hearkening, that we don’t value it and that shows Satan that we are a vulnerable target for his increased efforts. That’s how he cheats our souls, grasps us with his chains, and leads us carefully down to hell. May we always be found hearing and hearkening.

C.S. Lewis compares the process of losing God's gift of light to the neglect of the body. If you don't feed and water your body and exercise it and keep it clean you give it up. No one takes it from you.

I received a dream one time where I was told that true knowledge isn’t given until the attributes are obtained. So to obtain the true knowledge of the mystery of grace, we must first develop attributes of grace with ourselves! Thank you for your video

    I've seen it this way.
We are supposed to come to Him, so that WITH Him, we can become like Him.
We yoke ourselves to Him through covenants. That means we work together. I do all I can, but not on my own. I do all things through Christ. I need His grace all the time. It is not a backup plan. It is the plan. It is the main source of power to become refined and purified.
(At least, I try to live this way 😅)

With reference to salvation by grace, the mistake many Latter-Day Saints make is misunderstanding that the part we’re expected to do (keeping the commandments) can only be acceptably performed by means of the indwelling Spirit of God. Without the enlightenment and empowerment of the Spirit, we would be unable to perform the labors God expects us to do in a manner acceptable to him. Without the presence of the Spirit of God, a man may outwardly appear to be going through the motions of keeping the commandments, but, in reality, without the Spirit of God his works are dead and will not be counted as profitable acts of righteousness. The Apostle Paul testifies that works performed without the Spirit of God are dead works, and will spiritually profit a man nothing. And as James testifies that faith without works is dead, so too it’s equally true that our works are dead without faith, and faith is a gift of the Spirit. Paul explains this process of how men are only able to do effectively do the will of God by means of the indwelling Spirit of God in the following verses.
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death (I.e. dead works).
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, BUT AFTER THE SPIRIT. (Romans 8)
The bottom line is that the only way we can only effectively do “our part” is by grace, for without the gracious outpouring of the Spirit of God our works are dead and profit us nothing. It all distills down to the following simple but profound expression.
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. (Philippians 3:13)

I've always said that the Gospel of Jesus Christ was a Progressive Gospel in other words (a gospel of endless levelling) like players do in an
RPG Game where they start from level 1 and finish up at level 200 which takes months of grinding away to reach the highest level in the game.
It is the same with the gospel. You go from one level to another.

Another way to read the scripture about grace and works is that EVEN after all we do. We are saved by grace. AKA we can’t save ourselves.
