- Because in Apulia there are sea, sun, love, festivals, music of tarantula and pizzica, history, style, art, poetry, legend, typicality, warmth, charm, authenticity, harmony, nature, hospitality, nightlife, folklore, prehistory, local stone, freshness, architecture, cuisine, wine tasting, inspiration, good memories. Puglia, which I love is the rural one, white as its houses, eclectic, Swabian, Baroque, Romanesque, Aragon, generous, and Mediterranean. Apulia is my land on the border between Italy and my dreams.
Wonderful Thank you for sharing One day when all this craziness changes we must visit Stay Safe everyone
As a general rule, most of the videos that are actually a bunch of still photos turn out to be disappointing. Not this one. A job well done, showing the beauty and variety of Puglia. Can't wait to see it in person. Bravo!
While this Greek Music confused me at first, I then decided it was appropriate. I am Greek and have traveled several times to Magna Grecia as the Romans called it or Megali Ellada as we Greeks knew it. While there is no question Puglia is part of modern Italy, however it's history and background are Greek. Many of its cultural patterns are Greek. In May of 2018 I was in the Salento Area south of Lecce where they still speak Griko and road signs are in Italian and Greek. So let the the music span the gap of history and culture.
Salento is genetically, historically and culturally Greek since centuries.
Last year I went to Heraklion and I saw that people still eat what we in call "frise" (a round and hollow piece of dried bread). So I told that to my dad and he reminded me that Herodotus describes how the Cretans ended up in Salento, on their way back from wars in Sicily, after a storm and settle there.
My family is from there. I guess this is as close as ill come to puglia
Beautiful video!
Beautiful shots! I find that the soundtrack, even if not Italian, gives a nice rhythm to the images. Furthermore Puglia was and still is the meeting point of several cultures so... why not sirtaki? ;)
my mother comes from there
ever been to Europe? This is Zorba's theme. Crete...
And most appropriate since the ancient Greek historian Herodotus tells us: "Because their ships had been wrecked and there was no way left of returning to Crete, they founded there the town of Hyria [noawadays Oria, Apulia], and made this their dwelling place, accordingly changing from Cretans to Messapians of Iapygia, and from islanders to dwellers on the mainland." The whole of Southern Italy was part of Magna Graecia of course.
@familiae honorem A few more people went through it too... The Normans, Swabians, Goths, Arabs, Turks, Spaniards and so on. However, the gene pool must have a heavy Greek and Illyrian component.
Why Zorba The Greek music..... isn’t this Italy???
Telling the Truth eh South Italy is Greece
Apulia was colonized by Greeks, and today in the Salento peninsula the Griko dialect is still spoken. Apulia (expecially Salento) is genetically, historically and culturally Greek.

This region of southern Italy was colonized by Mycenean Greeks, and a Greek dialect called Griko is still spoken today in the Salento peninsula. Apulia (expecially Salento) is genetically, historically and culturally Greek.

This is magna Grecian civilization *greater Greece
