Puglia Italy's Hidden Gem? Conversano Italy near Polignano a Mare. See Apulia Italy like a local.

- Come see Conversano Italy near Polignano on the Puglia Apulia Italy coast. We tell you five top reasons to make Conversano Italy your top stop in Puglia Apulia Italy. Here are the top reasons, top things to do, and top recommendations for Conversano, Italy.
Number one reason. Not touristy. #1
Puglia is no longer undiscovered, but there are still some hidden gems. 45-minutes from Bari, Conversano has less tourists, feels more authentic, more local, and some might even call it off the beaten path. It’s only 15 minutes from the seaside. And close by all the small white villages of Puglia, Apulia as well as Matera Italy.
Number two reason. Food. #2
Besides the local cherries, Conversano will feed you Focaccia Barese, named for the city of Bari nearby. Barese is a thinner, crispier Focaccia, deep soaked in olive oil with whole cherry tomatoes, whole black olives and oregano on top. Fave bean puree or Pure di Fava, is a popular appetizer served with sautéed chicory. Then there’s the Fornello Pronto or Braceria. A butcher shop where you choose your meat or sausages before they’re grilled on the spot and served on paper plates. And with the coast right here, of course, seafood is plenty. You’ll find some version of mussels, fresh whole fish, and octopus on almost every menu. The most surprising seafood dish was our sandwich with a whole grilled octopus stuck in a bun. Taralli crackers are the best!
Number three reason. Masseria Experience. #3
A masseria is a farm house with an olive grove, and you’ll find them in Conversano’s surrounding countryside. Some masserias are grand and Other’s are tiny like ours.
Number four reason. Killer day trips. #4
The white villages of Martina Franca, Ostuni, Locorotondo, and Cisternino are thirty or so minutes away as is UNESCO site Alberobello, a town chocked full with Trulli houses, small beehive shaped structures that are so cute you can’t hardly believe it. UNESCO site Matera, where the last James Bond movie was filmed, is only an hour and a half away. Blue flag beaches dot the coastline from Polignano to Monopoli, Capitolo, Fasano and Torre Guaceto. Our favorite blue flag beach is Santo Stefano because of the stunning setting by the castle.
Number five reason. Neighbors with Polignano a Mare. #5
You’re right next to pretty Polignano a Mare, one of Puglia’s most touristed and instagram-able darlings with stunning cliffs, grottos and turquoise beaches. Stay in your authentic haven in Conversano and visit Polignano when you want. On June 14 you can witness the Festival of San Vito, the patron saint of Polignano. Full of local love and affection Polignano’s celebration is quaint, and beautiful, taking full advantage of the cliffs and sea. Every year a statue of the boy Saint dressed in the garb of a Roman soldier launches into the sea from the fishing hamlet of San Vito. The boat travels slowly to Polignano three kilometers away, then back and forth under the whole village until it lands in Cala Paura, a charming cove close to the town center. The little saint leaves the boat by foot procession to arrive at an alter in the main square of the old town.More activities follow for two more days. Polignano and San Vito are both blue flag beaches, an environmentally friendly certification issued by UNICEF each year.

We're hooked on your channel. Could you provide us with some tips on slow travel? We have a modest home in the hills above Imperia as a home base.
Thank you for watching and your encouragement. We really appreciate you. Wow, lovely area where you live. What kind of tips on slow travel would help you the most?
Let’s start with conversano. Considering a week there in October. Flying from Nice to Bari? I assume it’s necessary to rent a car? Can you suggest air B &B? Intrigued by masseria.
Did you you book everything in advance or book-on-the- go? How did you find such great places to stay?
That sounds fun. Yes, Bari is the closest airport to Conversano. A car will keep you the most flexible. We book accommodations far ahead, restaurants more on the fly, following our noses or asking locals. It takes GOBS of time culling listings, contacting hosts, and doing map reconnoissance to find the places we stay.😀 Here's the one in the countryside between Conversano and Polignano. www.lecasedimimi.it/it/case-vacanza/villa-torre-san-martino-011.html Working farms with dogs and farm equipment surround this neighborhood if you're noise sensitive. So many beautiful places. This is the coastline we will be looking for a home, very soon. The octopus did it😊
I'm from Conversano! I was born in the USA, but I lived in Conversano for about 12 years and my parents' home is in the ancient section of town on Via Martucci! I recognized the street in your video, but the footage stopped before you passed my home! I moved back to the US 32 years ago, but have been back from time to time to visit my family. My parents are now deceased, but my sister, nieces and nephews all still live there.
How lovely that you have such a connection to beautiful Conversano! Thank you for watching.
My son just moved there!
My parents were born in Toritto about 30 minutes from Bari in Puglia region
Ostuni-Gallipoli-Monopoli-Polignano a Mare-Fasano-Lecce-Brindisi is my favourite triangle in puglia. Beautiful beaches, great food and drinks all provided by people that know how to live very close to heaven, while firmly rooted to their home soil.
Thank you so much for this! Absolutely love your channel.
well done.. nice production values… love the pace, photography, places and people focus with lovely music!
Thank you so much for the encouragement, it means a lot!
@@happygoluckytravel - i worked in movie/ TV…& know production value/ you spent your $$ wisely-by the way- do you list towns, cafes, shops, playas- that are especially lovely?
That's a great tip. We typically list the towns and beaches we like in the details section of the description tab. We could do more!
Thank you for the great takes in the video.
We appreciate your encouragement!
Great video! We just returned from a Puglia trip. Conversano will definitely be on the list for next time if we go back. We stayed three days in Monopoli, and realized that we should have made that a day trip and spent more time in Lecce. A surprise for us was that a friend of ours took us to Monte Sant'Angelo for a day trip. Amazing!
Thank you for watching! We've never been to Monte Sant' Angelo -- will add to our list!
Is there where they have the archangel Michele? I went too
We are going to Conversano next week ! So happy I found this video, will be checking out the rest of your videos on Puglia.
Wonderful! Have a lovely stay! Thank you for watching the videos, we appreciate you!
Great watching. Grazie 😇.

Wonderful video! Since I will be spending some time in Conversano the next few months this was a great intro! Deeply appreciated!😀
Thank you for watching! How lucky you are to be there the next few months!
@@happygoluckytravel I do feel lucky! And your beautiful video made me very excited to be going there to apply for my Italian citizenship! Grazie mille!
We are going in April this year , I literally can’t wait , your video was lovely 😊
Have fun. We want to go back too. We miss Puglia.

Hele goede en rustige video! 👍

Love the videos, keep them coming. I was wondering where did you stay outside of Conversano. We will be there end of July and really liked the house you stayed at, looking forward to something this for a few days. Ciao

I DISCOVERED YOUR CHANNEL TODAY AND I AM LOVING IT. GREETINGS FROM POLAND
Awesome! Thank you!

Love your intro and the music choice, very inviting

Beautiful 😍
Thank you! Cheers!
We traveled to Puglia last year to visit my husbands home town of Molfetta. While there we stayed in a masseria in Ostuni called Masseria Salinola. Absolutely the best! Definitely returning next year & plan on visiting Conversano. Thanks so much for all your videos
Oh, Molfetta is so pretty! How amazing to have that as a home town. Enjoy your trip next year and thank you so much for watching!
The opening shot of the castle by the beach is Monopoli, abbazia di S. Stefano, nothing to do with Polignano nor Conversano.
Love this town.
Thank you for watching!
Very cool video!
Thank you for watching!
Greetings from Naples , Florida! I just found your channel and I liked and subscribed...
Awesome! Thank you for watching and subscribing from lovely Florida!
@@happygoluckytravel No problem on the subscription, that's some house you bought! We are 4 years behind you. Looking on purchasing in The Scalea area or The Salento region in the heel ... We will be in Positano in October and can't wait to start exploring. I just applied for my dual citizenship (grazie Nono!)
That's so lucky about Nono and your citizenship! Have a great trip to Positano and fun exploring such a beautiful country.
We are coming to soon
Thank you for watching, enjoy your trip!
Nice content on a path less traveled. Will be heading to Puglia soon and not sure where to stay. Conversano sounds great! But how did you guys get around for your day trips?
Thank you for watching! We had a car as our masseria was in the countryside. Have a great trip!
We will be in Puglia for a week next month and will definitely head to Conversano! I’m wondering if you can give me a tip on the best shop to find the taralli (the little round crackers! May have spelled it wrong…) you showed in the video? I love them and I’m excited to find them!
How lucky you will be there! Have fun! In Polignano a Mare there is a market that has a very big selection of Taralli. Numeri Primi Market on Viale Delle Rimembranze. Across the street and a few doors down is Il Libro Possible for a nice espresso/snack. In Lecce there are several shops dedicated to Taralli. Thank you for watching and subscribing!
Hello, new sub’r here! Is the beautiful house you stayed in, the one listed in your description? Also, do people there speak English? I know very little Italian…just enough for small talk. Thank you for your informative video.

Just found your videos and they are super helpful!! Would love to know the masseria you stayed at?

Buongiorno. Grazie da Texas. I had to lane gh because we can get those round crackers from Puglia at Whole Foods. Product of Italy. My favorite is the spicy peperoncino. I don’t know how a cracker can be so hot.
Voremmo abitare in Puglia. È un sogno!
That IS funny! What flavors do they carry? I hope your Puglia dreams come true!!! Thank you for watching.
I spent 2 months in Polignano a mare in 2000 . I did not see one other tourist except for some local Italian tourists.. Glad I experienced Puglia when it wasn’t a thing and the lira was so cheap. 5 star seafood and great wine for so very little.
Wow. That was lucky and rare. Do you think you'll ever go back now that its more visited?
@@happygoluckytravel yes Im sure it's still beautiful . But I wouldn't go in peak summer season.
Great video. We rented a villa for a month in Passignano Sul Trasimeno. The villa was spectacular. 1000 years old, but remodeled in 1700… If you decide to make another video we can give you lots of tips. can you send me a link to the place you rented? How was it?

We have been to Puglia a couple of times and it is one of our favorite areas in southern Italy. Last year we spent 6 weeks in a rented apartment on the main plaza in Fasano. Like you we try to avoid the touristic towns. Don´t get me wrong you should visit them, but if you want to feel the authentic beat of local life stay somewhere else.
Anyhow, good videos.
Lucky that you got to stay in lovely Fasano and enjoy such an authentic town! Thank you for watching and this comment encouraging stays in places that offer the experience of local life.

Loved my stay in Monopoli & visited some of the other places you mentioned but sadly no time for Conversano or Ostuni. You’ve inspired me to go back and soak it all up again. Q Are you living in the area or just touring around? Whichever one - have a great time in Puglia! ❤️💚

Salento has long started a tourism politics for young people, discos, night clubs have been created, in a few years Salento will be one of the top European destinations for nightlife and sea.
How did you get from Bari airport to Conversano?
Hi, Thank you for watching! We leased a car in Rome and drove down. Having a car does help with getting to all the beautiful little villages spread apart in the valley and to the stunning beaches on the coast. We hope you have a wonderful trip!
@@happygoluckytravel thank you so much :). We also leased a car because it was way quicker than taking the public transport and it made our planning more flexible.
And it was sooooo beautiful, I'm still in the Italian vacation mode although we're back home again and work will start again on Monday.
Thank you so much for your inspirations and tips :)
How do you get around to neighboring towns, if you don’t have a car? I would love to visit but don’t want to rent a car.
Hi Anna, thanks for watching. You definitely need a car to get around the smaller villages in Puglia. Since we've been traveling for about a year now, we've been doing short term car leases rather than renting. If you don't want to drive yourself there are probably services where you can rent a car with driver, but we haven't looked into those.
Thank you!
How do we go by renting this place ? So so beautiful 😍

Hey! Where is that beach in the intro?
Thank you for watching. That is Lido Santo Stefano, south of Monopoli. If you haven't already seen our ua-cam.com/video/owfrrOqSq80/v-deo.html Best Beaches in Puglia video, we show you how to reach both the public and paid access to Santo Stefano in that video. Are you headed to Puglia?
@@happygoluckytravel Thanks! I just watched it actually!
Lovely video. Only one issue with your video is this: the ONLY flavour of tarralli is fennel. The others are just ok. Lol 😂
Haha! This is a fun controversy! Thank you for watching!
The guy in the grill place was “why are they filming” and his friends “come on let them be”? Can’t speak Italian but am decent at body language
Can you park easily in Conversano?
We were there in June and had no trouble parking. July and August will be packed.
How much is the beach club?
Thank you for watching! Prices change every year and vary by month, half-day/full-day, parking included/not included, and location on the beach. Best to call and find out their most current prices. lidosantostefanomonopoli.it In June last year, full day, front of beach was around 100 euros, 2 lounge chairs and an umbrella.
…you want a suggestion? Proceed southern😊
Good idea! Thank you for watching!
Based on your recommendation, we visited today - 23 October - hardly anyone there - not sure it was worth the detour sadly.
Thanks for taking the time to post an update and your perspective on what it's like off-season. We appreciate you!
Volare...oh
Cantare!
Netflix...watch my Octopus teacher
Love that movie, big reason one of us couldn't eat the sandwich.
Not hidden anymore.
In 2017 we went to cisternino and rented a truly that had a farm…we pick up tomatoes….and then we stayed in monopoli centro histórico. FROM all there we travelled along puglia. Before stayed in matera and visited castelmenzano…unesco heritage town.
That sounds like a fabulous trip!
@@happygoluckytravel it was…and I really didn’t have it planned on what to do or see, but we did as we went. I had my elderly parent and two kids, 11 and 10 and still did so much. After I found videos of so many places to go!!
Sometimes that is the best way to travel, follow your instincts!
I m planning to go back, but different places…considering conversano, would like Bari vecchia…. I ve been is some places, planning to stay in Vieste too
Locals understand english ? 😅
Many who work in hospitality do, though not as many in general. Thanks for watching!
Forget just visiting, I want to live there, im done with the U.S, I wonder if Italians will be annoyed by Americans living there
