  • Hola from Menorca! In this video, we spend a few days in Mahon, the capital of Menorca, and learn all about its rich history (including some fun facts like that mayonnaise originated here)! We do a big food shop and track down a metal worker to help us fix our vang (that broke on our passage across from Sardinia).
We fall in love with the city, the beauty of the architecture and the people we meet there. We tap and drill new holes in the mast for the fixed vang piece and once finished we sail down to the southern coast of the island - which is home to some of the most beautiful anchorages we’ve seen so far. We pick up some friends of ours and sail to the stunning Cala Coves and explore the caves the bay has.

Great work and great videos! As someone who did machining work for about 5 years, it's awesome seeing you tap those holes and fix the rigging. It's amazing how efficient and effective a problem can be fixed with the right set of tools.

thanks so much! yeah honestly if there's one thing we've learnt is that the right tools can make all the difference. Expensive though!

We live in Menorca so guys have a great time here and make sure you see the north of the Island as well as the south. The north has less development and some beautiful beaches that are accessible by boat.

I have just started watching and am working my way through your story from the beginning. You have very good production & editing but your music selection is astouding. I would have loved to do what you are doing as a young man but now live vicariously through you and your fellow UA-cam sailors.

I'm not sure if rivets won't hold better in the long run. Apparently you will be using ss bolts which will corrode the threads in the mast. It is just a question of time. If you use Monel rivets you won't have any corrosion and the joint won't fail ever. Just the fastener itself seems a little underdimensioned in my view. Usually they are made of a piece of solid aluminium casting riveted to the mast.

Hi again both. Looks like diesel bug. You'll find fuel treatments in all chandler's to tide you over. A fuel polish and tank clean might be good the next time you're servicing the engine. Lovely episode, many thanks.

Hey Alex, thanks for the message :) Yep! We’ve run the tank empty now and will be cleaning it before we leave the marina for the next season. Also got hold of some biocide to add next time we fill 👍

Your videos are great. I stumbled across your channel looking for sailing videos around Menorca. Im missing it during lockdown and seeing your videos of it is helping!
If you guys ever need work done to the boat, Sail Power in Mahon is good. Lawrence there will sort you out.

Love your casual & keeping those slip ups in there! Just great to watch, cheers (from a Kiwi in Australia) btw, we still get to keep the AC Cup! woohoo, those 'keelers' got up to 100kph! Racing 3x the speed of wind always.
Edit - maybe think about a 'day' tank for the diesel, if you have room, then filter fuel from the main tank to it, perhaps pumping to it through a fuel polisher?
Not sure the accessibility to clean the tank, your call, easier whilst at a calm anchor......

Very nice project you have here. And well done stories. Have you made an episode where you speak a bit your backgrounds (sailing, living, working) and why/how you came on this idea??
It would be nice with some background info. And your choice of boat is super - but unusual. What make you make this choice??

Be careful of your Vang fixings, as Andrew has already pointed out, using Stainless Steel bolts into Aluminium (assuming the Mast is Aluminium) will cause corrosion long term. Dissimilar metals cause galvanic corrosion especially in a marine environment. Whilst SS fixings looks nice the trick is to isolate the two metals from each other, so on your next refit I suggest you make sure the paint is sound at the back of the SS fixing plate or use a gasket for separation and use a barrier on the bolt threads such as a paste or thread tape.

That looks like you have the diesel bug. Are you able to check your tanks. I'm not an expert on this but maybe worth doing more research on it.

Haha thank you! It depends a bit on the country but here in the Med most places are open - as it's all still part of the Shengen zone. Some places are starting to ask for PCR tests before arrival but overall we're able to move around quite freely
