This video is underrated, my 2009 MK5 Jetta has the same issue but not the driver door, but the other 3 doors, dealership wants to charge over 1K just to get it fixed
I initally tried to take my door handle off with your method of pulling on the door handle and unscrewing the t20 12 times. I was able to take the small nub piece out but even after showing the car to 3 different garages, the handle would not come out. It stayed like this for a year and i tried several times within this period with no luck. Just recently, i unscrewd the t20 without pulling on the handle until it stopped with little clang. The door handle just came out and i was able to replace all the black door handles with new colour coded ones. Car locks unlocks with no issues. Just sharing my experience with removing thecdoor handles thats all. Its a great vid and i will use it for my next job to take off the door skin to have a look at my window regulator which is stuck in the closed position. Thank you.
I am SO glad that I watched your video… I find it totally insane that you remove the outer door skin to service the door guts. I would have ruined the door fighting with the inner door panel.
The last comment is right do not pull the handle. Secondly just cuz the wires to not show copper in the door does not mean they are not broken internally this used to be a huge problem on the 94 through 99 Volkswagens.
I've been looking in to doing this for both rear doors as well as the front passenger-side door in my '07. But I'm having a hell of a time finding the actuators for the rear doors. Are they the same parts as the ones for the front doors?
My doorlock sometimes does not open on the driverside when i press open on the key The other doors do open Is this the same part that i need to change ?
If you do not use that set spring on the first adjustment on the outer cable you can lock both door handles. On B5 Passat it's very bad cuz you have to cut a hole through the door
hey Freddie thanks for the info ! it will help me amd others in the future. I had to do another actuator and I now see the spring you are talking about thanks !
hello did you try using the driver door window switch? and also the switch at the back. that will rule out the switch as the problem. if its not that then you will need to search up " how to replace window regulator"
There is one very important thing you forgot there's a little spring where the cable goes to the outer handle that is the set spring for the movement you have to lock that on the first initial pole and then it snaps and its adjusted
Are you sure it’s just not easier to remove the door panel instead of going through all that trouble or is the lock not accessible through the inside space. ??
yeah unfortunately you can't access it from the door panel side. on most other cars it would be from the inside! but this car is just screwy lol. its really not hard super easy! I think it might even be easier than cars where you have to go through the door panel( no little plastic clips to break). thanks for watching -Mike🤙
@@javierortiz5137 for sure, as cars become more modernized its harder and harder for backyard mechanics to keep up like me! but I'm keeping up so far 😁
hey my man as far as I know that should not have anything to do with the immobilizer. because I have a spare key made for my doors and it won't start the car, but it will unlock my doors. so I would say check elsewhere for the problem!
@@ΑνδρέαςΝτούνη they can be pretty stuck sometimes. but maybe you didnt actually turn the screw. sometimes i thought I was turning it but it wasnt in all the way. hope that helps!
I have an issue where my door lock cylinder is loose and I can't figure out why. The door handle is in tight and secure but the lock itself is loose enough that you can just pull it out.
I return with a triumphant update. I took the whole door skin off and it turns out whoever had worked on my car at the body shop had turned the torx screw out too far causing that metal cam in the bracket to fall out to the bottom of the door. After some Google-fu to see what the bracket looks like from behind I was able to put it back in, reassemble everything and now my door lock cylinder is snug as a bug.
All doors lock on my 06 Jetta, except Drivers door. Replaced the entire door latch mechanism but the door still won't lock. The light lights but will not physically lock. Only other problem is the Dash Drivers Information display stays constantly lit even after car is shot down.
@@cashcartel1229 Yes indeed, there are 4 broken wires. I'll try and repair them tomorrow. Could this also be the cause of my drivers info LCD staying on?
@@mark97213 I’m currently having the same issue. I haven’t even pulled the boot back yet. I just know there is a bunch of side effects. I also have heard from a reputable source that fixing those wires is still a temporary fix as the others will eventually do the same or even the same ones in different spots. Better to replace the harness. That’s what I’m going to do next week.
yeah unfortunately there's no black magic fix or rig for this one. but I assure you it is easy my girl friend did the one side by her self!🤙 you can do it!

@@SidewalkMechanics i doubt that, as I’m no mechanic when it comes to cars, I don’t like to start repair on a car & end up doing the job incorrectly

Thank you, great video
Is the process basically the same for rear door locks? In other words can these be removed/replaced without removing the inside panel?
yes they should be the similar procedure
Im going to need to travel to complete this job. Could you post a tool list? I see t20, flat screw driver, 10mm triple…. anything else?
The hardest part about this job, was finding a triple square lol
lol yes sir
Excelente video, thanks bro
would this cause a weird window problem too?
if the rear window had trouble rolling up/down then probably you need a regulator
I have WV. Passat 2006 2.0t if is the same? I have 2 front doors problem.
I'm not 100% sure but I think its is the exact same

I'm not sure actually but you best bet maybe a junkyard, or ebay. I found my part in a junkyard
rock auto has them, they are different.

yes moms always coming in clutch 💪
