  • The 63rd in my Retro Goa Explorations series of videos in which I present some of my favourite 'Goa Trance' tracks from the '90s.
In this series, I go back to my first experiences in the Goa Trance electronic dance music movement starting in late 1994, drawing upon my recollections of hearing specific music at certain events and using my classical music background explore the elements that I believe make these tracks so great.
The series is currently focused on music I first encountered in the '96-97 season, starting in September 1996, when I moved to London. I first heard the track from this episode when Max (from Etnica/Pleiadians) played it in a DJ set at a party at Tyssen Street Studios in London around late October/November 1996: Transwave's masterpiece Absolum. After I provide some background - including some important details shared by Dado (one of the producers of the collaborative duo) - I present my observations about the music while it plays; I then give a few closing comments before presenting the whole production on its own without any commentary.
You can hear my set from ZNA 2019 that featured the track (and from which some film footage is included in this video) over here:

Transwave is the best! This track still sound fresh as new and the arrangements are still top notch in the genre even 28 years later!

What a symphony of beautiful madness. So many layers and elements that pull you in, then up and up and up. Great choice! Thanks again, Mark.

what a energetic vibe, i don't understand when some people say they don't like X or Y group tracks because they sold out at some point after, that doesnt mean previous tracks weren't great, it's like dismissing an entire life work because later mistakes or decisions

Haven't heard this one since high school anno 2004 maybe? Objectively a great track, I will probably appreciate it more now than I did as an ill-informed and quite arrogant Goa-head downloading mp3-albums from dc++. Thanks for shining light on this beauty!

This is album is a must for everyone into Goa. I have grown a bit out of the hard pumps and fallen in to the more ambient side but regardless it is a sick journey. It truly lives in its own world with the rich weird background soundscapes that you just can't hear anywhere else, Transwave (TM). It also definitely is not all hard blast with songs like Phototropic, Voyager and of course the best, Ulysse Voyage 3. If only we could have a complementary Transwave ambient album similar to TIP's Mystical Experiences/Feeling Weird ying yang combo with more songs like Ulysse Voyage 3... If you go for physical notice the missing songs on vinyl.

One of the greatest albums the genre ever saw. Quite sure I got this in 96, as I already had this when I went to Israel in January 1997. Took me a really long time to get ahold of the vinyl version though.
