    You have no idea how much you have helped me right now. I just started streaming, and was getting extremely annoyed of the box in center of of screen, or the terminator auto forces on my face. Magic Lanter wasn't working for my T2i , and was able ready to give up and start looking for alternative camera online. Until I saw your video. Can't thank you enought. Your video really helped.

    Im glad somebody is willing to acknowledge that cameras under 700 bucks actually exist, i was going to get this camera for one to upgrade from my 50 buck chinese webcam, but to also have a camera i can use for actual filming projects. I had no idea i would have to do this to be able to use it as a webcam substitute, but im thankful to have found it and for you to put it up here.
    All these "big" channels, hyping shit for their sponsors and weekly uploads while pretending to help people. You can just forget about all the videos that have "budget" in the title.

      No, thank you. There are only like 3 or 4 videos that even talk about these cameras at all, everywhere else is territory of these pretentious wannabe professionals that use overly expensive equipment for jobs they could do equally well with their phones.
      Today where everyone wants to be a star they just use their equipment as status symbols to show off while actually only using 5% of the features they payed for. The worst is these people run so rampant, even when googling for "budget cameras" you only get articles and forum posts with cameras over 700 bucks, cause everyone buying these cameras pretends like there arent any usable cameras below that price.

    Thank you so much for this video! Clear, consise and no waffle. I wanted to avoid buying another webcam for streaming my sim rig, so giving my 550D a new lease of life was the idea and it's turned out perfectly! I did run into some issues before the ML stage, where it wanted me to reinstall firmware 1.09 (even though that was already the version). I ran through steps to do this on a 64Gb card, but it said it couldn't find the file, so on the ML forums someone suggested to put the firmware file on a smaller capacity card (I used 16Gb) and that did the trick! I was then able to install ML using the original 64Gb card with no problem.

    I am frustrated that I can´t see the firmware version of my 700D. I checked the user manual and it is supposed to be there. That whole section of the menu is gone on my camera. Makes me wonder if someone messed with it because I bought it used. Edit: Watched the rest of the video and it turns out I had to be in Manual mode. Rookie mistake. Thanks for including that information anyways! Second edit: IT WORKED! Thanks a lot. I had to update my firmware but that was easy. Really glad I can get some additional use of this camera

    Thanks so much for an immensely helpful video. Magic Lantern is totally worth it. All these years I've had a T3i... finally, no white focus box when testing streaming with OBS. Since I cannot get the EOS Webcam Utility working with my computer (OBS simply will not "see" the T3i as a video capture device-- even with the regular EOS Utility NOT running, even in the background), I had a couple options-- Digicam Control (DCC Webcam) -- the free software which works PERFECTLY (and seems to have a better framerate than the official EOS Webcam Utility)..... and, I bought a $20 HDMI to USB capture card, as the framerate is much faster/cleaner... but that damn white box, haha. This solved it. Thanks SO much! Subscribed!

    If you turn off the auto focus on your Lens the square will disappear from the HDMI
    BUT the hdmi feed is cropped and MOST IMPORTANT is 1080i59, it's interlaced
    No matter what recording setting you set in the Rebel T4i
    I really hope you will talk about this in this video

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  2 роки тому

      The reason why I didn't talk about this is, because this is not the case on all models. Some do support full HD output where as others only support low resolution outputs. Not to mention some have upper and lower black bars that you have to cut off in post production. I contacted Canon about this and they said the older video processing chips can't handle any higher work load, so it can't be fixed with a simple firmware update.

    • @Aniki82
      @Aniki82 2 роки тому +1

      @@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 yes but that interlaced output is really annoying
      I've no idea how this is dealt with when recording on a Ninja or external recorder...
      But i never ever recieved interlaced footage from a DSLR....
      I've the 650D and I'm using the Intensity Pro 4K (PCIE version)

      So ok it's possible to use Yadif deinterlace in OBS or whatever but this HDMI output
      is FAR FAR less good then the actual recording h264 from the 650D....

    THANKS! Sub'd and thumbs up!
    A couple of caveats that might be helpful--in addition to what you demo here:
    With my Rebel T5i, I had to first go to Canon's website and update/download onto SD card to firmware 1.1.5 on the PC, transfer to my camera.
    **Only then* could I proceed with your steps, tried many many many times before that, reformatting, downloading, installing etc over and over...nothing.
    After turning off Global Draw, I still had a Blue Bar in the center....
    I read somewhere else, disable Video Snap Shot---that was the final piece.
    Now, I can use my Rebel t5i as a Webcam, I have a Clean HDMI view on my PC.
    I am using: Mini HDMI to Regular HDMI, plugged into an HDMI Video Capture Card (USB)--found on Amazon, looks like a thumbdrive....so far, so good!

      With most DSLR cameras Auto Focus only works when the Mirror is down, once the mirror is flipped up for exposure the Focusing action is not possible. So in order to get full HDMI feed you have to shoot in video mode with the mirror up and Auto focus is not possible in that settings.

    I'd gotten a camera for my birthday and was wondering how to use the HDMI output from the camera, after getting the USB output working. After watching the video I installed this software just because it looked cool. My question is, what would you say is the advantage of using the HDMI output vs the USB? I'm still not 100% sure but I think my EOS 600D can do 1080p 60fps over the USB link, so I'm not sure the quality would be any different using HDMI. Is it just a case of whatever output type suits the situation best? For streamers I would imagine the USB link to be easier to use so I'm not quite sure then what problem this would solve, thats why I'm not quite sure about my USB output quality as I could imagine you'd want to use HDMI for good quality while the USB can be used more to do photos (instead of video). Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  Місяць тому

      Although every camera is different, but most of the older versions have better HDMI Video Quality compared to the USB Video quality. Specially the ones that don't support USB 3.0. HDMI Signal not only carries high bit rate video, it also has better color quality, and video bit rate. However you need to have a video Capture card for the HDMI output, where as the USB output does not require any additional hardware. The type of your Video Capture card also has a big role in your video quality. I am using an elgato Camlink 4K and I am very happy with it.

    I noticed that the Canon being used for this demonstration is the 5D Mark II which I believe was their first Full-Frame DSLR to offer video capability. It is true that removing the focus display box cannot be achieved engaging the Info button located on the left-hand side of the LCD screen on the rear of the 5D Mark II camera 3 times. But, if you are using the Canon 5D Mark III or 5D Mark IV cameras, this is not a problem as you can press the Info button at the top left of the viewfinder a 4th time and the focus box will disappear. I tested this with my 5D Mark III and Mark IV and they both work. This is a problem that Canon addressed when they came out with those models. I have not moved to the Mirrorless models as I have started using the Blackmagic Design 6K Pro for my cinema projects. If you have a Canon Mirrorless model, try engaging the info button several times. It will probably make the focus box disappear as well. I hope this helps. 03/21/2023

    CORRECTIONS, One, you do not need to backup your FIRMWARE, it's still there, Magic Lantern just runs beside it. Two, you can turn OFF the overlays (top/bottom bars) to get a 3x2 clean image, instead of a 16x9 with bars.

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  2 роки тому +1

      The firmware backup is a legal disclaimer required by Magic Lantern to release them from liability should there be any false claims. About turning off the overlay to get a clean 3x2 image is correct, but it's the same as cropping the image in post. You lose the top and bottom if you produce videos with 16:9 aspect ratio.

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101

      First of all ML offers way more options and features than just clean HDMI output. Just the fact that you get Sound Level bars to make sure your are not maxing out your audio gain while recording is worth the try. Not to mention the ability to keep the Mirror UP and the shutter open for more than the default 15min set by Canon. Second, to date there aren't any reports of any camera being bricked or damaged by Magic Lantern. The software only runs from the memory card, and as soon as you remove the card the camera returns to factory original firmware.
