Looks good sir. I was going to complain about the screws being on the outside, since that wouldn't be "secure" but realized you are putting a giant hole in the door.
great winter time upgrade....when Howie moved in he ran through the screen door in our bedroom and the bottom became loose, that is his summer time doggie door...two other screen doors and he know that those are not for his access....hmmm....new series...”this old dog house”....lol
I just built a new place and we put a doggy door in it. Our two dachshunds were like Bailey at first, not trusting it too well, but now they fly through it like it wasn't even a speed bump. Among the critters here in Texas are lots of skunks, so that panel is important.
Ok , just a heads up; remove the door, lay it flat on saw horses , Mark the door, use a 4” grinder with a cut off wheel ( not a grinder wheel ) or reciprocating saw , cut opening , easier to cut, easier to assemble! Use 3m waterproofing tape under outside frame. Shalom!
Now raccoons and skunks can visit. And children will love it. Our gran daughter climbs thru our little dog door , great for company . Need a backer so no goods don't get in when your not there.
Hey Bluegrass Good video, Ur shop build has been one of the most EPIC projects I’ve seen on UA-cam Better not make a video of catch’n bass in ur ponds coz people would get COMPLETELY jealous
I expected a boring mill project on the door. 😂 You have admire a shop boss who has the love and admiration of his minion. This was done off hours so as to not impact production billing right? Make sure the tax assessor understands that is a large dog house. _Dan_
I was a bit surprised that you didn't mount the door on some machine and indicate it before cutting the door. My niece has a door for her pup what locks except when the dongle on the pup's collar is near. He just pops through, but other critters can't get it unlocked. I guess he could invite his posse if he stood near the door though.
Nice job but generally the screws will get installed so the heads are on the inside of the house. Doesn't matter much here since the hole is so darned big I could get in there myself.
Brian, I see you using the cordless Milwaukee Sawsall. if you’ve ever used a corded one, how would you rate the cordless? I bought the first lithium powered Sawsall that Milwaukee put out and it was miserably underpowered and toasted the batteries in just a few months, it has been sitting there on the shelf ever since. I went back to a corded one.
Not near the power of my Super Sawzall but it does very well. It does suck hard on the batteries though. I can run almost 6hr use on my impact but the same battery in my sawzall probably won't make 20minutes of fulltime cutting.
I have the Makita version and it's OK, but you can only pull about 500W safely out of those batteries. The brushless motor makes up for some of the difference but it's still not the same as a corded one and you can tell. They make a version with two batteries, if you need more power, but also heavier. Depends on the job but most times I prefer the cordless version of a tool now, power isn't everything
Finally...!!!! ( Says Baily...) Did you check if you need to start dieting in order to use the doggy door in case of an emergency...??? lol Guess it's not that burglar proof, at least the slim ones... Never heard about those circular saws that can make square corners... ;)

You can't keep human intruders out if they want in. Like a house they just break the glass and go thru the window, no real effort required. The dog on the other side of the door ready to chew your face off for getting on his bed is a good deterrent.
Nice job but not that helpful/ instructive. Like, what kind of blade did you use in the skill saw and the sawzall? One can't just pick up a skill saw and use the same blade you would cut a 2x4 with. And I know you have on glasses but would have been good to warn to use safety glasses. I know, I know, that is just common sense but lots of people on here searching these videos to learn how to "do it yourself" and save some money don't necessarily have common sense. Again... nice job.
I had a client with a doggy door have a possum enter her garage while she was on vacation. Apparently the dogs were to terrified to do anything. It ate all the dogs food and shit every where leaving a disgusting mess. People don’t realize what could come in their homes through those things. DO NOT use an angle grinder on a metal exterior door. There is insulation inside that burns from the blade and the smell is ACRID. I will never do that again. Maybe use an air hammer with a chisel bit. Anything but an angle grinder. Worst smell ever
