Its even more impressive because the contras that they use are jupiters, which are pretty much the heaviest contra that you will find (about 35 pounds)
In case you haven't yet figured out, It sounds like a really over powered downward slide from a high pitch, so just blast air using a high embouchure and relax it; it should naturally slide down like that.
@pottsychhs11 as the person who was doing the catching of these instruments, I didn't get hurt once haha. it certainly was scary to first start practicing though
@ChAdPlaysBass It just means someone used that number, which is why some of the horns even show who used them before 2008 which the first year with Jupiter horns
@Mtingey1 No idea, I never got the case that went to my horn. But the serial number on the horn, which was also on the horn contract, has been in commission since 08'
@ChAdPlaysBass That would make for a wonderful sponsor relationship...I had to play on a 6 year old Dynasty contra... at least it was better then the sousaphone that I had to work with in the fall
honestley contras are not that heavy, i play the contra and have been for a couple of years now, they aren't that hard to toss, you just have to have the strength to do it(:
Carolina Crown: We throw baritones, mellos, and trumpets in the air
Academy: We throw contras across the room and balance them like seals
My heart dropped when I saw that contra flying
you could say you thought he would drop the bass
Buh dum tssssssss
+mr troll face I see what you did there.
a guy at my school did that with a sousaphone i shot my pants
QNote how do you do that with a sousaphone and not break your neck
How do they throw those JUPITER FREAKIN' CONTRAS around like its nothin'? I MUST KNOW!!!
That's exactly what I was thinking!
Its even more impressive because the contras that they use are jupiters, which are pretty much the heaviest contra that you will find (about 35 pounds)
Look at their builds, they practiced like hell for this
That was definitely one of those acts that leaves you wanting MORE. Well done. And they made everything looks relaxed and easy.
I thought the guy was about to let go of the tuba after he caught it xD
props to the female tubist!
jewtheripper, same here (minus myself being a guy)
never would've noticed her if you hadn't said that lol
There's actually 2 of us! :)
I’m the only female tuba in a group of three!
@@lukepetrowski them not her
man these guys are good and those tuba tosses are insane.. my section leader would kill me if i tried somethin like that
Now I really want to do this for the marching band talent show with the Contras xD
Job: what's your special talent
That guy: I can balance a contra on my chin
Dude thats exactly what I did too. My band director literally said "we need more tubas. Your big wanna join" and I said "why not" true story.
1:42 びっくりしすぎて心臓止まるかと思ったぁ………
1:41 - 1:42 what was that and how do you do that?
In case you haven't yet figured out, It sounds like a really over powered downward slide from a high pitch, so just blast air using a high embouchure and relax it; it should naturally slide down like that.
54321blader some people call it a rip
Who else wet themself when the tuba went in the air?
As a bisexual marching band brass player, I think i'll be watching this again. probably a lot of times.
@pottsychhs11 as the person who was doing the catching of these instruments, I didn't get hurt once haha. it certainly was scary to first start practicing though
Damn! I'd be nervous tossing my trombone!
When they throw the tubas at 1:40 and 3:43 it is both the scariest and most awesome thing i've ever seen.
Peter can we try that in the show this year?
So that's what they do all day...
asian tubist in marching band, this is SO NICE XD
Best 4 minutes on youtube.
@ChAdPlaysBass It just means someone used that number, which is why some of the horns even show who used them before 2008 which the first year with Jupiter horns
@Mtingey1 No idea, I never got the case that went to my horn. But the serial number on the horn, which was also on the horn contract, has been in commission since 08'
@bloodvein3 I've marched those exact horns. They are around 30-38 pounds
One of my favorite years with the Red Team. Fun I&E.
Check out our 2007 one! "Funkafried"
AZcontra13 what was the first song you played? I couldn't hear what he said clearly
Not even joking, when he tossed the contra up into the air, I came in my pants...
this makes me wanna start learning tuba throws... ps is the person that posted the video a tuba player?

When he threw his contra I literally had a heart attack
To heavy they said.... to much air they said.....This is the crap that i can prove all those stupid woodwinds with

Cant even lie. That was tight!
Holy shit he balanced the tuba on his face too!
I would be scared to throw that
One because of that and 2 that's like $3,000-$9,000 haha
ya but each drum Corp buys new ones every year, and they've been through hell and back
@mjbasner Well The Academy is sponsored by Jupiter, Mapex, and Majestic, so they get new instruments for free, we just have to give the old ones back.
Trombone squad where u at
Isaac Dusek here
Bass Trombone here ;)
luv this :D
I feel the bass
amazing
@ChAdPlaysBass no its not. we get new horns every two years
r u guys lookin for more tuba players bcuz im interested
@ChAdPlaysBass That would make for a wonderful sponsor relationship...I had to play on a 6 year old Dynasty contra...
at least it was better then the sousaphone that I had to work with in the fall
@Mtingey1 Um, You do realize how expensive it would be to replace instruments every 2 years? A CHEAP tuba runs around $5k.
This video.
Oh my God.
awewsome
They gotta be strong to throw around Quantras like it's nothing
That's epic.
Respect to the contra's!!!
The horn that I'm marching for the 2011 season is in this video. :D It's kinda weird when I think about it..... oh well... The Bottom Line

is there sheet music anywhere? I really want to play this for a talent show or something.
@Mtingey1 Really? on my horn contract it said it was marched in 09'
Damned cool performance

IKR ME TOO!
@Mtingey1 With the same serial number?
How much does one of those weigh?
actually I think it's Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love". But the devil hands probably work better with Iron Butterfly = )
กรี๊ดดดด มันส์ฮาดีนะค่ะ ฮ่าๆๆ 555.
trust me, i play trombone and was was switched to tuba for marching season... trombone is alot more fun!!! other than the fnce hats
Lol, real time "Holy Shit's"!

I wish I could have been in that Bottom line... Oh well Bottom Line 2k14!
has any body arranged this?
haha the funny thing is that I played trombone for marching season then got switched to tuba. Tuba is way more fun than trombone.
In the marching. I had a brass section. And i'm baritone player.
i've been playing trombone for 4 years , and i never seen a horn like that , what is it ?
A contra tuba
Gute Show.
This line represents all contra players in america, and how weird we all are
Sadly we cant have contras, so my college has sousaphones but we have the energy of contra players
