  • Join us on a hike to the epic coastal views from God’s Thumb and the Knoll. In this video, we’ll share the highlights and what you need to know to do the hike yourself. The trailhead is in Lincoln City on the central Oregon Coast, a two-hour drive west of Portland. You can find the trailhead by navigating to The Knoll at Cascade Villages Head Trail on Google Maps.
We did this hike on February 20th, so keep in mind there will likely be a lot mud if you go in the winter. The mud isn't a big deal for the hike to the viewpoint at the Knoll, but for the section of the hike to God's Thumb it can be a safety issue, so we would recommend microspikes or shoes with otherwise good traction.
The hike out to the ocean goes through beautiful moss-covered forest, where we saw a newt crossing the trail and a variety of very cool-looking mushrooms.
Here is the link to the hike overview on Alltrails: www.alltrails.com/trail/us/or...
The recommended route on Alltrails is about 4.3 miles long. We made it a little longer by making it a loop and taking a different trail on the way back; there are a few different route options you can take.
This is a great place to visit if you're traveling to Oregon, or if you live in the area and want to find more awesome outdoor things to do!

I have hiked it a lot when I was in my 20s. But from a beach house that my father in laws cousins own at road end. We hiked though the woods from the back of a friends property at the very end of Roads end. Ironically my mother's grandparents owned that very land at one time. Yes at one time my great grandparents own the land from Safeway/the casino to the Knoll and Gods thumb. My great grands had to sell the property to cover my great granddad's cancer treatment. On the day my husband gave me my engagment ring, not the day he actually proposed, but the day he gave me my ring we were able to walk around the base if the thumb at beach level but got trapped in that little hoseshoe Bay you showed. We would have died if we hadn't climb up the side of it to the top of the thumbs Edge. Your not wrong about how tuff it this at the edge.

Appreciated this very much as I tried to get to the Knoll a few days ago but was turned away by the route I attempted. There is no access at the end of Logan Road (Road's End). There is a sign with a QR code, though, which directs hikers to the starting point you've described here. The details of the hike you've provided are excellent preparation for the real thing. Very engaging content! Thanks!

Well that looks like a pretty sick hike! The views were very dramatic especially with all the rain and stuff going on. Awesome thanks!

Wow your so blessed to find a float! The glass blowers around here are like little fairies. Found one hidden in our beach basket 10 years ago and I’ll never forget finding it !

The view from the Knoll unto the Pacific Ocean is amazing. The moss covered forest is unique to that area. Very nice. Gotta love those muddy trails. lol. Great narration again. 👍😀

Do not climb on the thumb. It is now dangerous and they advise against it. There have been helicopter rescues just walk up to it and then back.
