    I have found that on my non solar Instinct, if I don't use the GPS for a while, the time on the watch gains almost 5 minutes a week! Which is bad for a digital watch. So I have to sync the time using GPS regularly. My wind up mechanical Hamilton watch keeps better time! By the way, thanks for sharing all your videos, they have been indispensable. I have just sent off for the Solar Instinct!

    Thanks for the informative videos!!! I have GPS turned off to extend battery life. If one syncs the Instinct to the Garmin app on your smartphone, the time automatically updates to the time on your smartphone. This manual GPS sync is useful when traveling international and one does not have local Wifi or data and/or unable to sync to the Garmin app on the smartphone.

      Turning off the GPS is like turning off your headlights in the car to save battery life. Not real smart.

      @@17cmmittlererminenwerfer81 Keeping GPS turned on will cut the battery time significantly---to about 16 hours with the Garmin Instinct. Most users only turn on GPS for specific activities.

      Why do you need to turn on GPS when you already have GPS on your phone? I turn on only when on expedition or back tracking in foreign cities. I only charge once a month when gps is off.

      @@NFS-shade Here are a few reasons: 1) To calibrate the watch to auto estimate distance for walking and running activities when GPS is turned off. 2) Verify watch GPS accuracy and consistency. 3) Calibrate altitude at a given GPS location.
      Generally, I have GPS turned off to avoid battery drain.

    This is very helpful when traveling. My sunset and sunrise time was off for the area I was in and setting the time manually reset sunrise & sunset time for me.

    I change time zones a lot, is there a way to have the watch change time automatically by itself?

    • @17cmmittlererminenwerfer81
      @17cmmittlererminenwerfer81 7 місяців тому +1

      No. It's a smart watch but it's not that smart. You have to manually synch it every time.

    Would there be a point doing this if it’s connected to your phone ?

    • @17cmmittlererminenwerfer81
      @17cmmittlererminenwerfer81 7 місяців тому

      Yes. It doesn't set its time based on your phone. It sets its time based on GPS ONLY.

    does it sync time with gps evryday automaticaly? or it syncs only then turn off on the watch? thanks

    • @JUMBLE2015
      @JUMBLE2015  3 роки тому +2

      It is automatic. The feature I show in this video is just how to do it manually (if you need to for some reason). I personally have never needed to use this feature since I have never had issues.

    If you are not connected to a smartphone or your smartphone is out of mobile range or just no internet connection - how would you sync your time?

    • @JUMBLE2015
      @JUMBLE2015  3 роки тому

      This is just a guess but my assumption is that if that occurs you basically have a battery powered quartz watch (meaning it will keep time just like any other quartz / non smart watch) would. My Atomic Casio's work the same way, if they can catch a signal they will update the time to the second. . . .if they can't they just keep time from the last successful sync. I have put mine in power saver mode (meaning no connection to GPS or smart phone) for several days in a row and the time keeps just fine. Again, just my thoughts.

    • @HeathHunter
      @HeathHunter 3 роки тому +1

      @@JUMBLE2015 I mean GPS is exactly what you need in this case. Moreover atomic watches (as my Casio) scan / receive radio signal to sync but you still need to have the time zone set manually. GPS gets your timezone (+DST mode) by the location.
      But never mind, thanks for the great tutorials. Your work is priceless!

      It uses GPS. GPS works everywhere in the world, and has no relationship to cellular signal. You can only synch the time via GPS, and unless you go to the moon or underground, you can't get away from the GPS signal.

    can i stop this function?look like it drain my batery life

    • @17cmmittlererminenwerfer81
      @17cmmittlererminenwerfer81 7 місяців тому

      Don't stop the function. GPS is crucial to how this watch works - it's the central point of its existence.
      Your battery easily lasts three weeks while using this function. It recharges in a couple of hours.
      Or, just get a regular dumb quartz watch and change the battery every three years instead.
