I bought mine to use when I'm grouse hunting in the North Woods. It;s easy to get turned around and get lost up there. The watch will also link with my dogs satellite tracking collar and show me where she's at, too.
That is a great idea, to link with the dogs. Plus like you said once you get into the woods it is so easy to get turned around especially when you’re focused on hunting.

Thank you for actually showing how the GPS system works on this watch this is exactly what I needed I’m I first time user with this watch I don’t have the tactical just the instinct solar. But I’m a avid Mushroom picker here were I live on the Oregon coast being a mushroom hunter your always looking at the ground and following the flushes of the mushroom’s so it is really easy to get turned around in a lot of different directions in the woods you are not familiar with. This watch will help take all of the doubt of with way my truck or ATV is at. We just had a fellow picker got lost a 70 year old Asian lady out of Crescent City Cal. It’s been about two weeks she’s been missing we usually get one to two a year some outcomes good some bad. It is very very easy to get turned around were you think is the right way isn’t the right way I’m pretty familiar with my area I live in but there are times I have to scratch my head to get back to my starting point. This will help take a lot of doubt and let me got further in the forest. Thanks for the video very helpful and have some safe journeys out there…

I believe "Number of points" is referring to how many times the GPS collected your position along the route. The line would be drawn from those points.
I have The Fenix 6x pro solar... I do love the look of the Instinct though, So I bought it so I can keep the fenix as a back up watch... I really enjoyed your video Mate. From the land down under

great video. I just bought the same watch and love it. I'm guessing since you moved away from your Jeep to acquire the signal is why it was pointing away from your Jeep and reading 23 feet.

Hey 👋! Great question. You can use the watch without the phone and save routes you have taken . as far as importing. I have never done that but you can. I believe it’s the Garmin explorer app that you put on your phone you can find trails, etc. and put them from your phone to your watch. Thanks for watching great question.
Yes I was using backtrack mode. And instead of backtracking I went back to a direct path,to see if it would figure out that I was on course and it did. But yes when it first vibrated it definitely alerted me
I just ordered the lichen camo model on sale for $350, I really liked the tactical in the moss green, but I couldn't justify the extra cost for a few extra features that I will probably never use. I'm guessing the color I got is not the most popular, and that's why it was on sale for less. But I thought it looked good to me, being an outdoorsman.
I hadn't seen the camo.I looked up it is sweet!!!I do like the moss green.But the word (tactical) got me ha.I don't use the extra features it has.At lest the jump master
@@jeepthings8875 I think the only part of the tactical that I would make use of is the "stealth" mode. I would attach it to a hot key function, and use it to very quickly go from a smart watch to just a regular watch to save (even more) battery...lol

Use mine in the colorado Rockies off trail hiking all the time. Use a original instinct as a spare in my pack just in case something happens to my solar during a hike. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket
That's a good point.I downloaded Garmin Explorer app.To keep trails I've done.But don't know if you can upload from app to watch.Its that time of year I will start doing hikes,backpacking,camping,will have to see if I can upload a route from app to watch.You are also correct on price I got the solar to extend days off grid.Thx for watching and Commenting.
Stay still when you are acquiring satellites, you should also remain still once acquired, for a minute or so, before pressing the Save button. This makes the watch fine tune its' position (you will see the coordinates keep moving and then gradually settling down) this is known as "averaging" That way, when you returned to your Jeep, the distance remaining would have been a lot less, probably 30 feet or better.

Short answer is true.To do it ,is a multiple step process.here is a channel “Jumble” .He in my opinion is the best to do advanced operations .Go to his playlist of the garmin instinct solar.He will have all the features .One of them is downloading maps to the watch.Hope this will help you and thanks for watching.

To get the light to come on with turning of wrist.Press menu button.Go to settings,then select system.Once your in system,scroll to backlight.Then select during activity.Last select Gesture (I have mine set on after sunset ).Hope this helps.I sure appreciate you watching.

I agree,it would make it more rugged.Its my daily watch,wear it 24/7(to track sleep exercise ect).So far it's holding up great.It is super light weight don't evenn notice it.Time will tell on durability.Thanks for watching and input
@@jeepthings8875 as you say - time will tell, but after doing some of the research there are quite a lot very good brands out there which manufacture tactical or military watches with hardened plastic/polymer resin base and they hold up pretty good, so fingers crossed Garmin will not fail in this. Mil 810 certificate also helps, but I am not sure if its Mil 810 G as its with Suunto Traverse Alpha, but on the other hand that that one is even more expensive and doesn't all the features.
@@D.u.d.e.r The Suunto Traverse Alfa was actually my first choice.At the time they were all sold out.The best thing I like so far with Garmin is the battery life/solar.It all depends on how much light I'm getting to it,but so far I'm only charging it once a month.
The plastic resin takes nothing away from this monsters durability trust me, I have had it months and every review will tell you the same....its military grade man. Does all that metal does expect twice as light on the wrist!!
Using Garmin solar for 10 months … solar charging is not so great as promised … my watch drains out of battery from 100% to 0 % within 6-7 hr … can not figure out wats wrong with it ..😢
Wow that’s not good.At full charge mine says 27 days(usually get 23-24 days) .In the summer I can get the 27,being out doors more.You may check to make sure GPS isn’t on ,even if it is you should still get more than that.I have my backlight set on 30%.I have it set to turn on by twisting wrist (to check time etc)It is also set to turn on after sunset to sunrise.Then during the day it is off.Hope this helps ,and you can get more days out of watch.
I’ve had it a little over 2 yrs.It says26-27 days when fully charged.it will actually last maybe 17ish.When new it would last 20-21.So it has diminished battery life by couple days in that time frame.Curious to see what it’s like in couple yrs.
Not focused on the watch at the end and use a real serious track with ups and downs to show altitude and barometric pressure differences if is the case....have a quiet one in the bush see if the heart monitor shows heart increase....go do a Karen in a shop see if witstands stress....etc
@@tomlitton80 This is an area I haven't been to in a while (probably 9 months).I'm going to go this Saturday to do some hunting.I will be going past this same spot.Its supposed to rain Thursday so should hold good prints on any thing in that area.I wasn't even looking for anything when I made this video,then there was the prints in a straight line.It caught me off guard (as you can tell in the video) looked to be claw marks on end of foot prints.

Great review but when you zoom in or out you must press the right bottom button (back button) so the map can rotate for you 👍

Why can not upload course to instict solar as the regular instict version ? It is much expensive but you get fewer functions with the solar version.

@@tomlitton80 This is an area I haven't been to in a while (probably 9 months).I'm going to go this Saturday to do some hunting.I will be going past this same spot.Its supposed to rain Thursday so should hold good prints on any thing in that area.I wasn't even looking for anything when I made this video,then there was the prints in a straight line.It caught me off guard (as you can tell in the video) looked to be claw marks on end of foot prints.
