Aes is a monster but I hate that clinical way of viewing his music, or music in general. He could make an album only using the 3000 most common English words on purpose and it'll still be unlike anything you've heard before.
@@billbill6094 That's because the original comparison in that study has been left out and bastardized over time. The original study, which wasn't centered around Aes at all, simple found that he has used more words than not just any other rapper, but the most famous writers in human history, including doubling the previous top user of most unique words, William Shakespeare. I've been a huge fan of Aes for over 25 years so i've watched him develop from the underground up to being the marquee signing on the Rhymesayers label. For anyone just discovering him i always suggest working through his discography backwards as his later stuff is way more accessible than his earlier word-heavy, condensed stuff. Lupe Fiasco did a really good dissection of Aes' style and comparing it to a Jackson Pollock painting that looks like mess (or sounds like noise) until you begin looking at individual parts. Anyway, check out some of his storytelling songs like TV on 10, Acid King, Blood Sandwich, Aggressive Steven or Get Out The Car for a real spotlight on what i feel is his greatest skill. Cheers! 🍻
Yo, Aes is the absolute GOAT, this dude is crazy and can hit some more approachable, goofy shit or some absolute mind melters. Some other ones to ease into Aes. Fish Tales Kirby Long Legged Larry Minful Solutionism Holy Waterfall Gauze Whales (Hail Mary Melon) Aes is very unique in that you can't just dip a toe, he begs for a deeo dive but some people don't vibe to be fair. His entire catalog is like a journey through his life, with each project orienting around a particular thesis. If you dug this it's time to be ahipted. Subbed
Pretty sure you won't know the sample unless your knowledge goes real deep so here. Sample comes from a song that came out in the late 80's by a female rapper called Sweet Tee. The song title is "On The Smooth Tip." Dorks is basically calling out the music / hip hop industry. He's a really dope rapper. Lupe Fiasco made like a 35 minute video explaining why serious rappers need to be studying Aes.
Asap rocky was literally still wearing nappies (or diapers) when aesop rock started rapping 😂 he is actually genuinely so good. He also has the most unique words out of his first 35000 lyrics out of a load of different rappers, more than Em, Wu Tang, JMT, MF Doom, Mos Def, Tribe Called Quest, Geto Boys, Kendrick, Kanye, Kano.. hes nuts, None Shall Pass, Rings, Gopher Guts, Daylight, Zero Dark Thirty are some other banging song's of his
Aes Rock is not for the casual listener. You have to actually think about what he’s saying and that hurts him in the mainstream. In this track he mentions “an occupation popular with demons and ducks”. He’s saying he’s a demon, not a duck which is a prey animal that spends its time in the main stream. For a person who is interested in deeper meanings in an artist’s lyricism Aes is the goat. The more you dig and the more you familiarize yourself with his body of work the more you pull from his tracks. Even if you were already heavily familiar with a track you’ll find more depth as you decipher other songs. Also, he produced this record (as well as tons of other stuff) in full. Hence “Don’t need no help” etc.
he has met Aesop Rocky, oddly enough. Zero Dark Thorty or Pigs tho if u wanna delve into his lyrical genuis or if you wanna have fun there's Kirby or literally anything by Prof, he's on Aesops label (Rhymesayers)
Aes was also a member of the Weathermen and Hail Mary Mallon, but my favorite track of his would have to be either None Shall Pass or Run the Numbers (with El-P).
I find it lowkey hilarious that y’all are just finding out about Aesop. There’s simply too many tracks to recommend. I think y’all would get a kick out of: Aesop Rock - Klutz
I don't think anyone in the comments have mentioned it if you guys didnt' catch it, but Aesop is on the label Atmosphere cofounded, Rhymesayers. Another amazing artist to check out from their crew is Brother Ali - I'd recommend Uncle Sam Goddamn if you don't mind a political song.
The GOAT. Hands down. In lyricism, cadence, and beats. His Hail Mary Mallon and The Uncluded work is solid too. Or Lice with Homeboy Sandman. Its all fire. Tracks to check out: Lice - Ask Anyone, Hail Mary Mallon - Dollywood, Aesop Rock - Tomorrow Morning, The Uncluded - Bats, El-P - Run the Numbers. Anything Aes is fire.
Hell a good playlist is just his discography. Skelethon was the first album of his I bought, specifically because of Cycles to Gehenna and Fryerstarter, both i recommend looking into.
Dig the vibe, love the artist. Instant sub. I must insist you ignore all these other people that didn't suggest that you start at "Rings" with Ase tho. Going in too deep too fast on his dense material turns most people around because they are absolutely not ready and cant hear it yet.

Oh these cats gonna learn today... Aes is without a doubt the greatest lyricist. It's not even close. You just need to study to get on his level. Man is decades ahead of everyone.
Y'all are missing the actual lyrics from this. He's saying that no one hip-hop genre is the "right" one. Nobody is the be all of rap, it doesnt come from one coast or neighborhood, it comes from the love of the music. Rappers are not to be idolized, they're just people.

This man's rap vernacular blows the 2nd best right out the water. He also uses hundreds more unique words than fucking Shakespeare, guys. This is the track that sold me. Garbology has a track called “Difficult” that’s biographic and cool as hell. I’ll subscribe in the hopes y’all deep dive this man’s body of work. He’s absolutely the most underrated rapper ever in my opinion.
Y'all, I promise you that more Aes Rock reactions will grow your channel! If you want a suggestion for a WILD track that won't be competing against a bunch of other song reactions:
Prefuse 73: Blacklist
It features both Aesop Rock AND MF DOOM, with arguably my favorite producer of all time.
this is cool to see. im a fan from london and love you grime etc reactions but this guys word play is next level. check out his "none shall pass" and "Zero Dark Thirty" both tracks is still have play to this day
When he said "is that name a play on asap rocky" i mentally reached through the screen and strangled him.
Aesop=Hip Hop. Asap=Rap Pop.
He got a new one out, mindful solutionism. Fire
Y'all flipping on the sample made me have to Genius this genius, it's Sweet Tee - On The Smooth Tip. Aes has been killing it since the 90's so you're gonna get a lot of requests, but I'd be hyped as hell if you did the 9-5ers Anthem. The people need to hear it. Great catch on the "Heavy load to bear" double, heard the song dozens of times never saw it.
Yup. I commented earlier that the longer you listen and the more you dig the more you catch. I never caught that double either.
Need to check out his "Babies with Guns" from back in '03. He's definitely got BARS!
niiiccee!! crazy how few reactions there are to his stuff b4 None Shall Pass & it's all mindblowing "NOW A DAYS EVEN THE BABIES GOT GUNS. DIAPER SNIPERS HAVING CLOCK-TOWER FUN. MISPLACE A BOTTLE MIGHT CATCH A BAD ONE. HAVE A MIDLIFE CRISIS WHEN YOU'RE 10 YEARS YOUNG"
Favorite line "If the Jesus piece around your neck is bigger than you pistol, it makes homicide okie dokie and your God will forgive you." @@RavenousCatalyst594
@@screwylooygaming very nice! what's REALLY crazy is Babies w/ Guns isn't in my top 25 aes tracks & yet i dig it lots! not even sure if it'd be in my Top 50 Aes tracks cuz there's just too many breathtaking tracks in the top 50 already! I just didn't dig the beat on Babies for a decade, why i missed out on Gopher Guts for a while too, beats that, w/ so much lovely to dive into i didn't tek the time w/ em. my fave line is "Dog, there's a fucking baby at the door asking for wallets (yeah?) & those ain't twin Beanie Babies inside his pockets (nope!) 2010 sonograms showed the Magnum formed directly out the fetus Evolution for the young killer convenience"
Cheers! 🍻
The sample was also used by Souls of Mischief on the track Where the F*** you at. The original track is Sweet Tea, On the Smooth Tip
Yo, Aes is the absolute GOAT, this dude is crazy and can hit some more approachable, goofy shit or some absolute mind melters. Best to always start with something digestable, this was a good one, as it's his take on hip-hop and mc's.
I see a lot of recomendations so i won't try to duolicate wzcept to echo Rings as a must.
Some other ones to ease into Aes.
Fish Tales
Kirby
Long Legged Larry
Minful Solutionism
Holy Waterfall
Gauze
Whales (Hail Mary Melon)
Aes is very unique in that you can't just dip a toe, he begs for a deeo dive but some people don't vibe to be fair.
His entire catalog is like a journey through his life, with each project orienting around a particular thesis. If you dug this it's time to be ahipted.
Subbed
Gauze has one of the most satisfying beat changes of any song ever
Pretty sure you won't know the sample unless your knowledge goes real deep so here. Sample comes from a song that came out in the late 80's by a female rapper called Sweet Tee. The song title is "On The Smooth Tip." Dorks is basically calling out the music / hip hop industry. He's a really dope rapper. Lupe Fiasco made like a 35 minute video explaining why serious rappers need to be studying Aes.
Aesop been that dude … well before asap Rocky
And for about the last decade or so Aesop have been producing most of his songs.
Asap rocky was literally still wearing nappies (or diapers) when aesop rock started rapping 😂 he is actually genuinely so good. He also has the most unique words out of his first 35000 lyrics out of a load of different rappers, more than Em, Wu Tang, JMT, MF Doom, Mos Def, Tribe Called Quest, Geto Boys, Kendrick, Kanye, Kano.. hes nuts, None Shall Pass, Rings, Gopher Guts, Daylight, Zero Dark Thirty are some other banging song's of his
In case you missed it "occupation popular with demons and ducks" drake...is another name for both demons and ducks...absolute mind blowing bar
Aes is an absolute legend and he's aging like a fine wine. Songs like Attaboy and Crystal Sword or Flamingo Pink
Hence “Don’t need no help” etc.
a cool little fact is a male duck is also known as a Drake.
Technically the demons are labels and the ducks are artists. ;) Hence being shopped as a saga, etc. etc.
he has met Aesop Rocky, oddly enough.
The only Aesop that’s older than Rock was the dude with fables. Y’all are really on some underground culture shit and I love it.
Aes writes like he has an english degree and I love him for it. all of Rhymesayers is HUGE, I recommend checking out their entire label!
Good luck breaking down this man's bars. Aesop rock is an absolute legend, and like a fine wine he gets better with age.
Aesop Rock has been around forever. Aes is the GOAT lyricist.
Sample is from Sweet Tea from a song called On The Smooth Tip
That sample is from an old song in the 80s by this mc girl Sweet tee called smooth tip i think.
I was late to hearing Aes, first heard him on Run the Numbers, a collab with El-p. One of the finest lyricists no doubt.
the sample is on the smooth tip by sweet tee
I find it lowkey hilarious that y’all are just finding out about Aesop.
There’s simply too many tracks to recommend. I think y’all would get a kick out of:
Aesop Rock - Klutz
I don't think anyone in the comments have mentioned it if you guys didnt' catch it, but Aesop is on the label Atmosphere cofounded, Rhymesayers. Another amazing artist to check out from their crew is Brother Ali - I'd recommend Uncle Sam Goddamn if you don't mind a political song.
This dude is so good! Gotta do more
Aesop is the true GOAT.
Man should have a star everyone has slept on aesop for years he makes real shit
The GOAT.
Yes. One of the greatest talking about being one of the greatest
This is poetry with hip hop beats.
👍 welcome to the Buzz Fam ✌️🍻
There’s a long as hell video on Lupe Fiasco talking about Aesop Rock. Idk if you two want to make a reaction out of that long a$$ video but it’s definitely worth watching on your own time either way
And also if you wanna go back too the very start of uk grime you must listen too choong family - adrenaline. Turned the notification button on dont make it too long ❤❤❤
Aesop Rock - Rings, this is what you need to react guys)
Oh these cats gonna learn today... Aes is without a doubt the greatest lyricist.
It's not even close. You just need to study to get on his level. Man is decades ahead of everyone.
He fucking means “what are we going to do about it!”
If you guys missed it one of the hardest lines ever in hip hop is "but you as anything menacing is a difficult sell"
BRO OMFG THEY FINALLY DID IT
More Aes Please ❤ His newest single 'Mindful Solutionism' is fantastic!
I haven't seen anybody say this. Even though im a year late.... ASAP Rocky chose that name as homage to aesop rock. You were almost right lol
Y'all are missing the actual lyrics from this. He's saying that no one hip-hop genre is the "right" one. Nobody is the be all of rap, it doesnt come from one coast or neighborhood, it comes from the love of the music. Rappers are not to be idolized, they're just people.
0:30 Nah... *this is the guy the entire ASAP faction ganked their buzz from.*
Watch the look on Aesop's face in the video where someone takes him backstage to meet ASAP Rocky for the first time...
Ian is probably your favorite rapper's favorite rapper, and if not: reverence is definitely paid.
The sample is from Sweet Tree's "On the Smooth Tip." It's right near the beginning of the song, too.
ua-cam.com/video/rktooFDbSTw/v-deo.html&t
dude is a lyrical GOAT! theres a chart of rappers with the best vocabulary....he TOPS ALL-EASILY!
This man's rap vernacular blows the 2nd best right out the water.
He also uses hundreds more unique words than fucking Shakespeare, guys. Read his lyrics before you listen to the so g and try and figure out "How the fuck does he make the cadences and rhymes work out of this?!" and then listen to him... it's some of human history's greatest poetry.
2B Panorama... close your eyes and let your mind use his lyrics...
*You can SEE what he's talking about*
I was already a massive reggae fan before someone gave me a cd of his in the late nineties, "Skip Town" uses such an awesome sample for the beat it sent me down a rabbit hole of singular searching all reggae for that original song... I knew it was a King Tubby clip (that's yet another wormhole, do Bad Brains after that Gents) after 20yrs plus... and now the name escapes me, so I'm BACK IN THE DAMN CRATES so I can edit this later!!
Asap rocky can’t hold a candle to Aesop rocks flame. He’s fire spittin dragon of a rapper
