- Sony's Playstation Showcase 2023 has wrapped up, and it was mostly boring and very "progressive". Out of over 20 games shown, only 3 looked good. Not to mention, most of the games weren't even exclusives.

As a black man I can tell you straight up, majority of black women dont play video games. When I was growing up they would ridicule any dude who played games, now some are getting into gaming for the attention. NOT because they actually like games. They only go for the gamers after they've been used up, thats why I date outside of my race. Its foolish to push black women to the forefront of gaming as its just not their thing. U can throw Asian men and a few black dudes on the front if u wanna switch it up but for the most part it is white men and I see no problem with that. It only became a race problem when the left made it that way, we all were fine before their identity politics.

I’m a black man and just got into gaming again this past year. Tbh I don’t see his point about WM protagonists not being represented. Most of the games I’ve played are all WM protagonists, Batman, uncharted, RE4, Dead Space, God of war etc. I do think it’s weird how much they’re pushing these black female characters and strong female roles in general. It comes off so cringe and unnatural. I’m sure black woman make a very small percentage of gamers.

I'm... okay with that since Splatoon is a game I always kind of wanted to play but never could because of it being on a console. At least there is a cute character in it which kind of took me back lol. It obviously still has the ESG and big noses reeking from it but still a genuine surprise.
It’s a unique concept. Why should Splatoon be the only one allowed to do something with it? Thoughts like that are why the Nemesis-system is illegal to use because one company decided it’s theirs alone. I welcome unique spins… the problem I have is that it doesn’t look like it offers much unique, lol. Creating platforms is interesting, but I’d want to see more than that.

Well, it's a lot better that we know MGS Triangle and Vol 1. collection is coming than not knowing at all, but yeah, I would definitely be concerned given their track record of their last MGS game plus Kojima is not involved anymore.

Do you guys miss games that have mature dialogue? I'm not even talking about just cursing or invoking sexual themes, I'm talking about dialogue that doesn't treat the player like he's dumb.
Nowadays it feels like every game dialogue is neutered and reduced to what is essentially "MCU speak", if you've ever seen a marvel movie, you know what I'm talking about. Never diving into real topics, always keeping the conversation on a shallow level, speaking like nobody speaks in real life, it all feels so fake. I just finished playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and the topics and conversations felt so much better than what we have today.
Yeah. Dialogue and story is almost always awful these days. It's dumb themes for dumb people. Games like Planescape: Torment or Xenogears could never be made today.
Yes, unfortunately normification of video games and ideological capture of studios killed any serious attempts at interesting and original projects. Now we have two kinds of products: the dumbest lowest common denominator slop and ESG-funded propaganda. Yes there are some good indie games, but the era (ps1, ps2 up to middle of ps3xbox360 generation) when the developers had the opportunity for experimentation and budget for it is gone.

I'd say the golden age was between about 1990 and somewhere around 2005. After that the decline is very noticeable.

I think one of the culprits of this happening is unfortunately the mainstreaming of video games, both as a media to be consumed and as a good financial investment by people with the money to do so. When the industry took off and attracted the casual audiences and investors it ultimately led to profit-oriented thinking, and safe-growth, not offending anybody, not innovating and like you said, lowest common denominator. Back then in the eras you specified, developers and game studios in general were filled with people that loved games even if the money wasn't always in it, real passion projects and a willingness to experiment. Some indie games are good for sure, but it doesn't feel like any of them will amount to a sustaining franchise and will always trot in place.

I can't possibly be the only one who's noticed this, but the really over the top woke games have started putting in this weird bright neon (usually purple, sometimes orange or pink) smoke flourish thing. I noticed it in Rage 2 when it was first revealed, I remember seeing it in a couple other games, plus God of War Ragnarok, during the black girl magic segment, and now commie shooter has it for their smoke grenades.
It's so strange, because it's so distinctive, and it instantly tells you want kind of trash you're looking at.

That’s one game that actually DOES need a remake, considering how scrambled the original code is and some of the product placement like the iPod making it a difficult job to do a straightforward port. But instead they go with Snake Eater simply because it’s arguably the most popular in the series and thus the most safest. At the very least, I hope 4 is included as one of the games in the upcoming remastered collections.

Anyone interested in playing Dragon's Dogma, definitely do it! But know that it starts off extremely slow. You'll be tempted to quit because it seems extremely janky and boring, but just stick with it and you'll be glad you did!
How long until it actually gets good though? Cause I did play it and quit after a few hours. I'm not interested in sleeping through half the game if only the 2nd half is good, especially on a ~30 hours long game.

I've been wanting to try Dragons Dogma for years, and so I just started now with the announcement of 2 on the way. Beat the hydra after reaching the first settlement. It's been awesome so far!
Tried it for hours, didn't like it. Exploration was boring, story non existant. So def a game not for me.

re boot remake re re re re.... im sick of it, rather then reboot an old story why not pick up where the story left off. its rare a story is so completely wraped up that new issues cant be conjured. even final fantasy one could have a kick start with the search for the heros who vanished could even be a nice twist that the heros never really existed and were manifestations of the crystals either thru their own power or thru some kind of sorcery and the search threating to bring about the rise of a new fiend with a surge in monsters and other disasters as its herald. just because one story in the setting is done dosent mean there cant be more stories.
We're getting one for MGS1, MGS2, and MGS3.

As a massive Spider-Man fan I really hope they do not do the miles vs Peter boss battle that most fans think will happen. The symbiote is an internal battle for Peter. It is one he alone has to overcome, not one where miles will remove it in a boss battle. I really hope they can nail this from a story perspective. Gameplay is good, sure a bit cinematic, but I don’t think we will ever get back to the craziness of web of shadows.
As a massive fan of spider-man I never liked the retcon that the symbiote magically makes you edgy. The original story made more sense. And still provided a great origin story for Brock in conjunction with the sin eater. Web of shadows is great though

I connect more on a personal basis from the TF2 characters than some of these empty characters they push for these new weird games. Remember the days where you just played games because it was made to be fun, and enjoyable, and there were challenges in them for the player to learn from and over come and not have someone hold your hand? Remember when you had to ask friends how they got through a level when you struggled? Me too, and I miss it. I miss the conversations I'd have with people on games that we played, and teaching them or learning from them. This was supposed to be Sony's one-upping Microsoft before they do their presentation and Sony botched it. Let's see if Microsoft delivers or if they mess this opportunity up (they won't deliver it will come down to what the masses find to be a better presentation).
It feels like year after year Microsoft are handed victory on a silver platter and they still find ways to fuck it up. Mostly by not making any interesting games at all. Over the last few years, their thousands of studios have produced little more more than Game Pass fodder and Forza games. No interesting new IPs, no games by passionate developers, only sequels and indie crap.

Ive always preferred older games that my older brother introduced me to while I was very young but with gaming getting so bad recently ive had to continue to revisit classic games for fun. thank god for mods for games. back when they were made for fun and not agendas
I highly recommend you try Nintendo games like Zelda botw or tears of the kingdom. There’s plenty of fun over there.

my hopes for alan wake 2 were destroyed seeing no gameplay of alan wake himself killing shadow monsters but instead playing as a StRonK BlAcK WhAmEn.. Dragons Dogma 2 is on my radar. Talos principle 2 (i cannot reccomend the first game enough for first person puzzle fans, history and religious fans, philosophy nerds) and ghost runner 2. but who knows. never underestimate just how deep disappointment can cut in this modern age of media.

@E.king5897 should definitely try out dragons dogma. its a fantastic game...but defintely in a AA kind of way.
