@@BornRemaining I actually cried when the official end video came out, and after looking into it all that remains in my mind regarding Matt is disgust.
Notice how the mindset of "AAA companies can't do no wrong" appeared ever since video games suddenly became a socially accepted hobby instead of "that stupid thing only basement dwelling nerds do". It's as if I suddenly decided to become a fan of cars and started shouting that Ford is the absolute best car company in the world with absolutely no flaws because Mustangs are popular in the media, and call everyone who disagrees with me a hater. It's a skewed view of complete newbies in a hobby that think big corporation = good quality products. And this is amplified ever since those companies became Yes-men to those who shout the loudest.
Brand loyalty is essentially a degenerate form of tribalism. Normies make it easy to exploit themselves. Anything as long as they get to feel like they belong to a "community."
We live in a world that has been trained to become hyper-accepting of every thing under the sun, and so we have also become hyper-sensitive to the slightest criticism made against those things. We have thinned our own skin.
You know I just realized why tank controls work so well in early resident evil, it's literally fight or flight boiled down too its purest form, your either stopping to shoot or your running
Exactly why I love tank controls and static camera - always having to wonder and beware what's around the corner, then make the fight or flight decision accordingly. I've had people tell me these kind of mechanics were outdated and nobody would want to play a game like that anymore, just to get shut down by an argument that it worked well in the first Resident Evil remake which met quite good sales. Hell, even RE0 HD had good reception. It's those kind of mechanics that made these games still feel like VIDEO GAMES. It's why these games could sell me the SURVIVAL and HORROR that the games that went away from these mechanics couldn't.
I'll agree with this actually. I recently got into the Resident Evil games after Village (because I thought it was really good) and when playing REmake, I thought the tank controls would drive me nuts. It actually didn't. The game was designed with the tank controls in mind so the more free moving controls were more frustrating for me because I had to fight the camera. Switching to tank controls removed any issues I had with the camera. I do kinda wish Resident Evil 1 can get the same remake treatment as RE2make and RE3make because I think those games just control amazingly while still being just as effective in horror as RE1.
@@chloemarlowe3817 I can get behind the vision of REmake getting the same treatment as 2 and 3 - on one condition, though. AS LONG AS THEY DON'T TRY TO FIX WHAT'S NOT BROKEN. Story namely. REmake is perfect in that regard that it keeps the original game's plot pretty much intact while also EXPANDING upon it with the addition of Crimson Heads, the Lisa Trevor storyline, new puzzles etc. It does both - being faithful to its source material as well as standing up on its own as a whole new game, or a "reimagining" as some people persist. RE2make gameplay-wise was a wet dream of mine for years, honestly. Getting up close and personal with zombies over Leon or Claire's shoulder? Count me in on that shit. And they're both now cuter than ever, on top of that, they speak like actual human beings too. One can sometimes forget they're just a bunch of polygons put together. And yet, after I beat it, the aftertaste it left was rather bittersweet. Gameplay-wise I got the game that I dreamed of, but MY GOD HOW MUCH I HATE WHAT THEY DID WITH THE STORY AND HOW CERTAIN CHARACTERS ACT LIKE THEY DIDN'T HAVE A SNICKERS. (meaning: they don't act like themselves; for those who didn't get the analogy) Leon and Claire are fine, in all fairness. I also like the more prominent role of Marvin this time around, even if it kinda takes away from that cold sense of isolation while subconsciously realizing that we're on our own out there. But Chief Irons? He's the character I can't get over the most. When you meet him in the original there is that eerie aura of mystery about the guy. He's very vague when he speaks to you, but also quite disturbing. I won't spoil the rest for those handful of people who still haven't played the game and would like to pick it up, which I highly recommend, (best RE game fite me) so they can see for themselves what I mean. Whereas in the remake he looks and acts like Uncle Vernon from the Harry Potter franchise, basically being mad on constant and screaming at people how bad he is. This "reimagining" of him is some unfunny joke. He's closer to a cartoon villain than an actual psychopath. Again - EXPAND on source material, DO NOT SCALE IT DOWN. (Also, somebody should make a mod for RE2make which swaps Sherry's model with a Harry Potter one so that it would look like the entire game revolves around Uncle Vernon trying to drag Harry back into the cupboard under the stairs lol) I could go on listing my other gripes with RE2make story-wise, but this comment already turned out longer than I expected. And RE3make... But let's not talk about it? tl/dr; EXPAND on source material with your remakes so that old fans will happily return while the modernized design will draw in new ones. That's what it'd have to take for the remake of REmake.
"I can't think of anything less important to video games than graphic fidelity, and yet that's what the majority of people are obsessed with, and they wonder why video games are so bad these days." Sad but painfully true.
if it wasnt for graphics games woudnt exist in the first place in a sense, but yeah its all about the gameplay. gpx is nice, but gameplay is why you play the game
@@ps123fanyou mean if there wasnt an image on screen? What do you think graphics mean? TR is single textured boxes and is revolutionary and still cant be match to this day, not even by modern tomb raider itself
I honestly don't get the "You just hate videogames" argument at all, if he truly, and I mean truly hated videogames then why is his entire channel dedicated to the coverage of them? People are so fucking docile and submissive to companies and products these days they can't tell the difference between hating games in general and hating what games have become and stand for now.
Thats a superficial argument from superficial people. They dont go deeper in designs and consume rather then play . Only the thought for them to take a deeper look into game-design is for them too much. Even for looking on game-design in general .
no.. no.. people just have a different opinion and view on it lmao. in their eyes they probably see all of y’all as ridiculous? see what I’m saying hm?
Subbed the second you pointed out how people (especially on Reddit) can't seem to handle anything but vapid positivity anymore. Critical analysis is the backbone of improvement. We need ya, man. Kudos
People are confused on what unanimous praise does to a product. The reason why the industry is so discordant and out of touch is because these faceless companies see the standards people are willing to pay for.
"You're not a Fallout fan if you started with Fallout 4". This doesn't make any sense because people can still play and enjoy the older games - like you wish for them to do. It's like saying you're not a Crash Bandicoot fan if you started with Crash 4. The best thing to say is "You're not a Fallout fan if *you've only played* Fallout 4" Sometimes people just can't help with what they start with. Doesn't mean they can't go on to enjoy it's other sequels.
I slightly misspoke, yes this is what I meant. Though most of the people I've encountered who started with 4 never went on to play 3 or NV, and don't really like RPGs in general. Definitely doesn't apply to everyone though.
@@VileImpin 1 and 2 should be played last; partly because they're janky old crpgs and you need some serious motivation to get passed the bugs, and in fo2's case, the janky story, but mostly because they ruin the depth of FO:NV. FONV on its own seems like a setting with a lot of depth and complexity, but after playing FO1 and 2, it becomes evident NV is just a love letter to the original two,. The khans, for example, were canonically wiped out (twice!), and they just chucked them into the game as a sort of "Hey! Remember these guys from fallout 1?". "This guy's from the hub; remember the hub?", etc.
Only someone who has loved so much can hate on the same intensity. So everytime you look at someone truly disappointed for the current state of games know that he once was the biggest passionate fan number 1 of video-games.
I miss the 90s/early 2000s, where video game studios were just a group of people who made a game THEY wanted to play, and then sold it when they felt it was finished.
That's a myth, people just didn't have the information and ease of access to the developers and the process of making a game they have now and didn't know to details from the kitchen so to speak. If you were around forums from early '00s you would have seen same shit as now, rushed releases, marketing influencing game design, pandering and all the shit.
I had a roommate like that. Made it impossible to enjoy games. Praises the hell out of Rainbow Six Siege but won’t try Resident Evil because it’s “old” (talking about the OG RE).
@@spas6433 if that is only their argument then yeah. Not the dudes who actually explained shit just the actual dumbasses who just said the same thing as the OP
@Spas64 ... he never said you're a dumbass if you don't agree with his videos. At most he said you're a dumbass for a specific thing or things... then you lied and translated that context to "everything he does"
@Chandler Burse Doom Eternal, DMC5 and FromSoftware games 👌 Ubisoft is mediocrity at it's finest and unfortunately even the new GOW is a casualty of mass corporate appeal.
@Chandler Burse I agreed with most of that. GOW is far from a terrible game but you should watch the UnderTheMayo review that dissects the more lackluster aspects.
Being a game developer used to have no clout/respect and also paid like shit so literally the only reason to do it was because you were extremely passionate about it. Now you don't get disrespected for it and although you could get paid better for your skills at least it pays pretty decently. So for far more people these days it's just a job and just business and it shows. Due to this a lot of developers have streamlined development and this has lead to a lot less risk taking and cookie cutter designs. Then add in that budgets have bloated to the point where they are unwilling to take any risk on a novel idea and everything becomes a sequel or a clone/ripoff of something else.
The main problem with games nowadays is, that devs noticed that the pool of casuals is bigger than the pool of gamers. So they have to dumb games down and move them towards dumb gameplay and movies just to make more money. At the end of the day they are corporations and their main goal is to make as much money as possible. They even wanted to move to mobile games since that pool is even dumber but bigger (see blizzard). I dont see this changing any time soon so I stick with indies because they need to stick with gamers mostly because they dont have the budgets to reach the casuals.
Diablo on mobile was a terrible idea from the word 'GO'. Diablo 3 marked the real decline of Blizzard, and Warcraft hasn't seen anything good in a long time.
I'm deprived of sleep, so I can't exactly put into words at the moment how much I appreciate not just your channel, or your content; but you as an individual; but I can say that your channel is probably one of *very FEW* that I can legitimately enjoy these days without any sort of annoyance-- background or otherwise-- whatsoever. Maybe it's the tone, or the straight-to-the-point attitude, but regardless, not many people do it like you do, so I appreciate that, and you. I do hope your channel sees, uh,, overall success, or whatever. Y'know, whatever "success" is in your eyes; that's what I hope for, for you. If not, then,, eh, time to die, I suppose.
You don't hate video games. You just acknowledge that gaming has lost it's luster over the past decade due to corporate laziness and lack of innovation.
I love this channel because he’s real about his opinions and he has criticized things I love and saw how they could be better and sometimes I disagree though But I love the rant/venting because it’s something people do when they love something and try to work out their thoughts everyone does it and I enjoy it whether it’s something I agree or not and on top of that everyone or anything is not above criticism It really just shows whose insecure with themselves and their opinions who get bent out of shape on here, it’s an opinion take or leave stop getting butt hurt over an opinion. You really do have a problem because you probably act the same about other opinions in your life or relationships
Every time I criticize a game, (even if it`s one of my favorite) it sounds like I hate it. The truth is, I wouldn`t even bother to criticize a game I hate, it`s just a waste of time.
"There's only so many times you can be disappointed before you look at things realistically." This is the crux of it and why I think that casual gamers will never understand us. It might even come down to inherent personality differences. I see it as they are willing to be blind to any criticism because they feel like its depressing and they want to be happy, so they're willing to forgo thinking and analyzing things in order to feel good. It's not a matter of making them come around to seeing the truth as we see it. They don't think it's important, and their version of the truth is just as truthful and more important than our criticisms.
It's almost like we can't express our own opinions anymore, I remember when I watch your Re Village video and I'm pretty much have the same thought as you about the game and then look at the comment... (btw I hope you have a nice day man)
@@QTEEP well, if you're saying that you having a different opinion on things that people love or like (in this case, games) you're most likely gonna get a toxic and negative comment from people imo. (or at least that's how I always see it)
@@synthnation9857 I mean, someone telling him they like a game he hates would probably also get them a negative comment so whats your point? Both people still get to voice their opinions. Do we just expect to voice our opinions and not get any differing arguments back? Odds are if your opinion has hostility behind it the retaliation is going to be just as hostile. Saying "anyone who likes this is a moron" and then getting upset when people go "no you're the moron" is childish on both sides.
@@synthnation9857 I just find it funny when someone wants to voice an opinion to a group of people but they do it by bashing said group and then going "wow you guys are mad that I called you idiots?"

I stopped playing modern video games because it legitimately started to feel like I was just playing the same game over and over. People love to make fun of sports games because "bro it's the same game they just change the characters' names" while they play Call of Duty Modern Warfare 13 like it's not the same game they've been buying for the past decade.
@@Pixelblut Call of Duty: World at War/Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2/Call of Duty Black Ops 1 >>> Call of Duty Vanguard/Call of Duty Black Ops 4/Call of Duty Infinite Warfare
I'm assuming you're about 27. Lol where you got a taste of the great but as you matured they progressively got worse. I still love video games but I don't look forward to them anymore. Granted, console wise, I've switched from playstation to Xbox, so gamepass helps a lot with just ignoring hype and playing what looks cool with my friends. Cinematic "film" games are played out. We have people writing these games as if they're trying to win an Oscar. Just say "God of War 2018 had an alright story but God of War 3 was the pinnacle of the franchises gameplay" and you'll be skewered and put out to roast. It's absolutely ridiculous. Have we forgotten that games are meant to be fun? We should be having fun. Why do I want to play a depressing ass, slow burn game? I'm already a millennial. We're perpetually sad. Lol
@Chandler Burse This comment tells me you're either an angry Zoomer or someone trying to start shit with people who came before you. NOBODY said the 1990s were superior, as that decade had plenty of faults and flaws. I'm still going to say God of War 3 was to me a better game than God of War 2018. GoW 2018 was still a good game but I don't play games just so I have to sit thru hours of cinematic cutscenes, which was the vast majority of this game. The enemy variety was pathetic compared to older GoW entries, it felt too slow and sluggish at times, and it tried to be another open world like experience with collectibles and pointless side content. Accept the criticism some people are giving you in the comments, or pretend to plug your ears and act like everything is rosy and great.
I realized this very problem after playing a few Telltale "Games". They were interesting, maybe even fun at times. But in the end they were never worth the money, because it was basically watching a bunch of video clips and you could only have a few "this or that" decisions that did not really matter in the end for the most part. If you can just watch a UA-cam video about a game and not have the urge to play it yourself afterwards, its not a good "game". Its a slightly interactive movie.
I’m with you Synth. I played two modern games in 2023…TWO. That’s it. This is the first time something this has happened to me. I just don’t care about them. I find myself going back to retro or last gen more now.
Some of these gamers are just plain weird as hell I grew up in the 90s there's a huge gap with experience sorry not sorry my generation grew up with greatness so I understand your mindset but it's just like you said they need to go do there own homework than they can criticize not before
If you like [BRAND] You are a shill If you buy products from [BRAND] You are a shill If you express any form of positive emotions around [BRAND] You are a shill If you disagree with me You are a shill
Chappelle said it best. "People's ears have become to sensitive" There seems to be this notion lately that you can't harshly criticize anything beyond obvious flaws like glitches or predatory Micro transactions which should never need criticism because they should simply not be in the game in the first place. Just because something is popular doesn't mean it shouldn't be beyond reproach, when in reality the games that are most popular should be the ones receiving the most analysis as well as the most criticism. Too many people put themselves in a bubble by blindly following one game, and thus become unwilling to listen to criticism. This eventually becomes a vicious cycle of where devs will continue shoveling out the same shit time and time again because zombies will buy the popular thing no matter what. IMHO everyone should at least try different genre's of games to see what they do well and realize how it could benefit the main game or genre you enjoy. It also gives you a better understanding and appreciation for the games you truly love. No game is ever perfect, don't shy away from criticism, and expand your repertoire of different games. Understand these concepts a you will truly appreciate games more than you ever did before.
Dave Chappelle didn't deserve to get canceled. Old comedians like Andrew Dice Clay and Sam Kinison got more than their fair share of criticism. Nowadays, if both were alive and active in the comedy circuit, they would either get vapid positivity without an ounce of criticism, or vehemently criticized until they are forced to run off stage and cancel their act. I can throw countless jokes that George Carlin and Robin Williams made in their prime that people today would get too offended over and try to cancel. That's how fucked up the situation is in these times.
I hear this far too often. It’s as if graphics are the most important thing, but realistically the gameplay should be priority one. Take Madden for example. I have been playing the series since 05 and it’s easy to see the franchise is at its lowest point. Lacks the depth and overall fun factor I once derived from it.
I feel your pain man when you get people like that because there are a ton of old games that are freakin masterpieces that sadly people like that with no open mind will ever give a chance because well it looks old its annoying to hear but it is their loss if they don't wanna won't stop me from playing Lol.
I really don’t have understand why people get offended when someone criticizes a game that they like. Fallout 4 is one of my favorite games of all game, but there are plenty of people who hate it, doesn’t matter to me
There are pretty valid criticism there . Objectively New Vegas and the older titles are truly better in its RPG-gameplay . But if people liking Fallout 4 then its okay. Having subjective bias towards it is alright. Even having guilty pleasures isnt a crime . But we should stay objective and see the flaws and take it how it is . I love Daikatana , Turok evolution , splatterhouse(2010) and Jurassic park for the Snes . Those games are very bad , dont get me wrong but i like the setting , ideas/design , gameplay or story of it alone that inspires me to see a game with those aspects made into a great game . Thats the point.
Falllout 4 being fun or not fun isnt the problem. I found it fun for the first few hours only…. The problem is Fallout 4 is not a “true” fallout game in terms of the rpg mechanics it’s known for. 4 gutted and streamlined it into a shooter. Yet some want to pretend Fallout 4 is a good fallout game. It’s a good game but a terrible Fallout game.
It's a sad state of affairs that almost all my favorite games are at least 20 years old. Makes me sound like my dad yelling at me to turn that good damn noise down ("That ain't music!"). But that's where I am for the most part. Fortunately there are AA games and the occasional indie title which isn't pretentious hipster garbage, otherwise the hobby would be dead for me.
You're probably older which is why your favorite games are from the past. What we thought was great music, our parents thought was crap. The cycle repeats. Now we got a generation of kids who think Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Far Cry 6 are the greatest things ever. To me, they are dogshit. I'm 36 years old, so I'm not really the target audience anymore.
Man, it must have sucked to make this video. I genuinely appreciate your videos, even if I don't agree with some of your views. It's just nice to hear your opinions and thoughts. Keep it up, my man. Also, tak and the power of juju video when? 🤔
I'll probably review Tak eventually. 3D platformers are usually the least viewed videos on the channel, so I have to review them sparingly or else piss off the algorithm.
This is something i get from my coworkers when i go off about nerd stuff that upsets me. There is still this stigma that negative towards something means you hate every aspect but then you have to remind people that being negative and critical about something is as important as being positive.
I don't want to have anything to do with modern gaming. I'm tired of it. It doesn't entertain me, and exists solely to get my money. For a while I thought the problem was me. Then I went back and played some older games (which I always used to do before getting a strong computer), even games I have never played in the past and thus have no nostalgic feelings towards, and holy shit, the problem isn't me. It's the industry. Fuck the industry. EDIT: I basically agree with everything stated in this video.
PS3 was the peak of gaming for me personally. Bioshock 1&2, Mass Effect 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Fallout 3&NV, CoD World At War & Black Ops, Saints Row 2, GTA IV, even the 1st Borderlands had its charm
14:00 i played fallout 4 first but after playing new vegas, it puts 4 to shame and in retrospect, i probably wouldn't enjoy fallout 4 as much anymore if i ever went back to it
New games do suck. Every game developer is trying to "reach a broader audience", they dumb down their games and the writing lose their edge. Japanese games like Scarlet Nexus basically put the most generic anime characters in a generic hack and slash. So be proud about hating new games. Older games with higher resolution is still good.
There is Astral Chain and that game felt like a passion project of Platinum. After playing it a few times, you can just tell that they put tons of love into it! Sadly, Scarlet Nexus just isn't on that level of quality.
Dude I just love your style of content. No BS. No desire to appease people. None of that. It’s authentic and you and it’s what we need more of. Content that actually matters and leaves an impression. Love the videos man
I think your criticisms for this (almost all of the) last generation of games is right. I think it's good to be a critical thinker. Idk why people people don't boycott companies, stop buying rehashes y'all. It's always another shooter, open world, sandbox RPG, indie story, MMO, roguelike or sports games, usually at least. Hopefully these trends will both be improved, innovations away from them and kickbacks to classic game design principles, for they ought to have their comebacks.

It's just exhausting when most youtubes make videos bashing a game and focus on the flaws and rarely the positives. Maybe if you had a segment of the video dedicated to pros and cons of a game it'd feel less like bashing
Preach! This is why I subbed. You take no prisoners dude and you articulately make your point with just the right amount of venom to make it entertaining.
Your videos are so refreshing honestly. Video games have lost so much of their charm and people seem to mindlessly consume any "new" game and any game that is "old" is bad to them. It's good to see someone like you who actually just shares their opinions and doesn't just repeat what everyone else says.
maybe its what you/one first experinced. gamers who grow up today, might ''love'' modern games, same as many here like older ones. guess you just like something or you dont i guess
The past 5 years, all I played rly were older games or old games remastered. The only games I find myself playing that came out after 2015 are Battlefield 1, Battlefront 2, Elder Scrolls Online The last new game I bought at full price was Jojo all stars, before that, I guess it was Demon SLayer

Thinking in trends and blind consuming is the part which made this throw-mentality from the begin with. Im sure after 5 years they trash the games they praise again . The same happened with Order 1886 and even with Until dawn .
We need MORE people criticizing games because all of the crap ruining games is because of journalists, shills, fanboys and toxic positivity people. Companies listen to them and whatever twitter NPCs complain about but not actual fans or people who want better games. Maybe if more of those people existed, companies would have an interest in improving. Twitter mobs can get people fired from companies for whatever reason, but not actually complain to make games BETTER.
"I can't think of anything less important to video games than graphic fidelity" Here, lemme just....there we go, subscribed. Thank you UA-cam Algorithm, you did your job right for once
This is my favorite rant channel. I rewatch your cyberpunk rant video almost once a week to get the pain to go away. Also you're not the only one who sees how blatantly bad games have gotten. I actually just realized why most modern video games drain me so much, (hint), it's because most of them suck and lack any substance. When i play a game that is genuinely good i just can't stop getting engrossed in it. And i think that that's how you know when you're playing a truly GOOD video game.
I actually discovered your channel because of your Mortal Kombat movie review. I really like your channel because you just state things so matter of factly. I get so annoyed with videos that start with "guys this is just MY opinion, please don't hate me." We should all understand it's your opinion, we shouldn't be treated like children. I actually did watch all of your Far Cry 2 video because I've been recently playing through that game. I thought it was really good and agreed with a lot of your criticisms. I agree with your point of graphics being the least important aspect of a game. I've been playing a lot of indie games with pixel graphics and have been having a great time. Sure, you've made some videos that I disagree with, but overall I really like your channel and I hope you don't change your style simply because a bunch of troglodytes come by and hassle you.
In my opinion the video game industry is becoming without a unified vision: bland titles, recycled ideas, the same game over and over, not to be able to play titles of the current generation in two consoles and so on. Most of the stakeholders don't want to make a good game or develop their core product to the next level, but make money out of it in the fastest way possible so they can get a massive return on their investment as fast as possible. Games are art: their artistic venue and the creativity that takes place into it's making are extremely important, and art and interests are not reconcilable linear way, but they don't want to take risks, and here's where it comes the gaming decay of these years: the lack of innovation! After all, why do I have to make the best taking risks, when I can make it good, take few risks and profit from it? It's this distortion that's ruining the whole industry, making hollow products that shine in some place, but lacks in many others, products intended to be sold rather than be played and enjoyed!
Hey man i feel you. People always tell me i'm too negative and stuff but i think most modern stuff not even just video games sucks and lack creativity. Wether it's comics, manga, music, movies etc. For exemple when is the last time we saw a Bruce Lee type of movie? And for mangas the modern ones all look the same and feel the same, there are a few archetypes of characters and they rarely go beyond it. Old mangas used to be very creative now it's just all the same. So yeah at this point i'm just watching old movies, reading old comics and manga and playing old games. There are a very few exceptions of course but they're so few and far apart that i don't even think it's worth it to filter through them anymore
Especially if those opinions are reasoned objectively and with facts to back it up . Those Sheep are m e n t a l l y-blinded and arent open for other opinions. They rather stay in the post-truth thinking instead accepting what is objectivly fact .

Gaming was hugher quality in the days of it being a nerdy no lifer hobby. Since it because socially acceptable. We rarely get any good games compared to the older titles like ocarina of time
I only watched two videos of yours. The E3 one and this, so I don't know about your reviews, but you sound and talk like the type of guy that could make some pleasant editorials about video games. Talking about the industry, game news, that sort of stuff. To make a comparison, like an early Jim Sterling before he lost his mind.
As long as people buy crap games , they will keep churning them out , and I’ve been guilty myself the past, because a new game is such a buzz.. As soon as video games became really popular big company’s saw a big fat cash cow and that’s all the industry is now .
Yo the return of the king! Dont worry about the corporate fanboys who are walking Stonetoss comics. Games have become a commodity for mass consumption and much of the soul of gaming as been lost in the process. It stopped being a passion industry made by sweaty gross gamers governed by love but instead governed by market testing and made by pink haired weirdos with pronouns in their bio. Its a commodity meant to be consumed by the masses. I think mainstream Western gaming has hit its decadence phase and we are just going to have a managed decline. Very sad to see. Good video as always, man. God bless, big guy.
The original Gears of war trilogy is very cinematic but the cutscenes are brief and most of the exposition, banter and character moments are done within gameplay time while the player has full control
Man do not change, maybe you get less subscribers but you offer something different from other people. You made me buy Spyro and wanting me to play RE3 (not the remake).
The original resident evil games have something the modern remakes do not. While I have not directly played any of the RE remakes as I couldn't be bothered with owning a modern game console beyond the PS3 I have to say with all these flashy graphics and HD this and HD that something of value is lost in games each and everytime not to mention most games these days feel or look the same to me I think it is the new graphics style we use now it makes everything feel and look the samish. Sure old 3D was blocky back with the OG resident evil games but they had something and in my opinion it was atmosphere due to the graphics limitations kinda like silent hill 1 the ''bad'' graphics added to the experinece when concerning how messed up and disturbing the monsters appeared but also in resident evil case the pre rendered backgrounds contributed a lot and the camera angles and tank controls. all of that added to the extra thrill and the fixed camera angles+tank controls say what you will about them all added to the xeperence and atmosphere. while I don't consider resident evil overall scary games silent hill has that on lockdown the fixed camera did help to add a sense of dread and anxiety becaue you didn't know what the heck was around a corner and it was perfect. it is fine details like that I feel are lost in many games. the reakes of resident evil seem to have dumped the tank control scheme and also the dynamic camera angles of the original ones.
@@Naglfar94 People seemingly wanted easier and easier games and everything is so dumbed down now. Tank controls were awesome, but what did game critics and other crybabies whine about?! Now almost every game has generic over-the-shoulder 3rd person camera. It's no wonder old-school games like Dark Souls are doing well, people are tired of the homogenized 'cinematic' video games nowadays!
@@Naglfar94 Those are bad arguments/opinions. You shoul try RE2 (2019), is way better than original RE2, not just the graphics, is a game made with effort. It could have been a masterpiece but Capcom did many things bad with the game, like micro transactions of skins and the original soundtrack
@@zerot480 That is your opinion that my own opinions and arguments are ''bad'' but my opinions are not bad pointing out facts and I disagree there still and while one thing has changed recently I do own a PS4 now my mind won't change on Resident Evil overall the originals are much better because of what they had that I mentioned in my previous comment that these new versions and remakes miss out on.
@@zerot480 The Resident Evil 1 remake is one of the best horror games of all time, that to me trumps the original 1996 Resident Evil game in every way possible. I have yet to find anybody who feels the opposite, so Capcom, while they have their flaws, really did a spectacular joke with the Resident Evil 1 remake.
I wouldn’t know about certain video games being good or bad because of you, the personality that you have is similar to myself and probably half of every old school gamer. You are not like those flamboyant UA-camrs who just want the views and such. Thanks brother, never change.
Before I even watch this, I need to say - The more you care about something, the more you need to criticize its faults. Entertainment media and so many other things are going down the shitter because not enough people have enough brains to comprehend this very basic facet of quality control. Animal Crossing got gutted with the release of New Horizons because casuals, apologists and unconditional diehards taught Nintendo that when they pulled crap like Pocket Camp, they'd be rewarded. Now the AC community is pretty much flushed and gone after the NH hype died down after the New Leaf online playerbase had spent the entire game's cycle being full of activity across the entire internet.
hey man, I wanted to thank you because your videos introduced me to Dead Space 1 and 2 and Prototype, and I loved playing both of them, also I love your takes on modern gaming
Last I dont know how many years, whenever there is a strong focus on story in a game, I do not stick around for very long. I'd much rather read a book than wannabe literary phish game, or even worse wannabe movie phish game. Unless we are talking about Disco Elysium.
So hot take this might be a long comment, it’s interesting how you state the things you mention in numerous videos (basically the decline of the video game industry). Tbh it’s not just video games that are like this (inb4 boomer comments which are the stock response to this kinda opinion lol). As someone who likes to analyze the media they consume I’ve noticed people as time goes on seemingly stopped to take a step back and reflect on these things whether it be video games, movies, and music. Arguably these 3 things have gotten “worse” with time and it’s defiantly directed tied to popularity of the medium. I remember you stated in a video if I’m not mistaken that gatekeeping is a thing for a reason, a lot of people get mad at the idea of gatekeeping but when gaming for example wasn’t as popular the quality was there without a doubt, but as time goes on and video games have become more popular these things have been “dumbed down” to appeal to the general public (not saying I’m an elite intellectual being btw, just going back to the idea that people don’t really analyze the media they consume anymore to the degree we once did). Everything is about instant gratification and points you brought up about graphics and micro transactions prove that notion, which is again catered to the general public or “normies”. The thing is though normies can be shown good media and if it’s done correctly can be digested accordingly. It’s almost like eating healthy food, yes McDs tastes good but should it be the base of your food consumption? No obviously. This applies to media we have lost sight of that in our modern culture despite us making such great technological advances we are arguably worse intellectually in a lot of ways compared to people of the not so distant past (I think of how at one point music like Jazz and Classical both very dense music forms were Popular music which supports my point. If anyone read this you’re a homie 🤛
@@brian-michaelmedina5472 I thank you as well, I'm also tired of seeing things I once loved become shit because originality is scarce these days and when there is something new that people like it gets AXED to oblivion while bad entertainment gets sequel after sequel
I wouldn’t even go with a “healthy vs fast food” comparison because that implies the “good” media (healthy) isn’t as enjoyable. It’s more like someone who has only built houses with wood their whole life. They’ll claim it’s the best because that’s all they know. Meanwhile, houses built with bricks, wood, and metal are better, but they refuse to believe anything outside their frame of reference could be better. It’s why so many people will retort (to criticism of any media) that it’s blinded by nostalgia. Because it’s impossible for them to entertain the thought that something might have been better in the past.
What you say at 31:25 sounds like a contradiction to your earlier remark about how games should be judged by their peaks and not their valleys. Sure, there's been a lot of controversy in the past 8 years and lots of crap like Cyberpunk was released. But the peaks are pretty insane. I really think this comes down to you not playing great games. I think that's where this opinion comes from. Why don't you try? The past 8 years gave us Celeste, Outer Wilds, Undertale, Disco Elysium, Breath of the Wild, Hollow Knight, Ongeki, Edith Finch, and Rocket League. Ludonarrative harmony in particular is definitely strongest in recent years, and the best indie devs build off the most effective storytelling methods games have ever given us. Honestly, apart from Brothers, what amazing example of ludonarration can you even think of that *wasn't* from the past 8 years? If your criticism was against a certain type of game, like mainstream game, it would be more agreeable.
Its almost like people will associate you with overt negativity about certain concepts on the internet, like gaming, when the vast majority of content you produce about said concept is aggressively negative. :)
I enjoy your videos for your honesty and opinions; the lower amounts of editing compared to other UA-camrs who love to throw in dumb jokes all the time make your videos feel more down-to-earth and real. Stick with what you're doing, you do what feels best and keep it up.
While I disagree with you in some of your takes, I have to admire the fact that you are one of the most real channels out there and you are never afraid to voice controversial opinions or the truth about gaming. Keep up doing it, never change ;)

Dude I suggest you review games you actually like instead of reviewing games you hate. It will grow your channel and it will make you happier about games.
I don't think there's anything wrong with the whole Sony way of doing it, with huge grand stories. I mean the story was by far the best thing about last of us 1 and without it it would have just been another average zombie game. The problem is when it's more movie then game, or the gameplay is boring. I also disagree with your take on red dead 2 though, I think it showed games can be deeper then just run around and shoot stuff, they can make you really feel things, make you think. Say what you will about the gameplay, I thought the slow pace worked perfectly for immersion, but the story was incredibly moving. It does take a shit ton of patience I'll grant you that.

Good point, once normies flooded the market things steadily declined to flat out exploitation.
Brand loyalty is essentially a degenerate form of tribalism. Normies make it easy to exploit themselves. Anything as long as they get to feel like they belong to a "community."

Only thing is no one thinks like him and he is kinda weird
(meaning: they don't act like themselves; for those who didn't get the analogy)
Leon and Claire are fine, in all fairness.
(Also, somebody should make a mod for RE2make which swaps Sherry's model with a Harry Potter one so that it would look like the entire game revolves around Uncle Vernon trying to drag Harry back into the cupboard under the stairs lol)
I could go on listing my other gripes with RE2make story-wise, but this comment already turned out longer than I expected.
And RE3make...
But let's not talk about it?
tl/dr; EXPAND on source material with your remakes so that old fans will happily return while the modernized design will draw in new ones. That's what it'd have to take for the remake of REmake.

I am an aspiring video game developer. Any tips?

"There's only so many times you can be disappointed before you look at things realistically."

Like hell yeah! All my RL friends won't even touch old games because "it looks old", when I hear someone say that it makes me wanna punch so hard.
And yet those people still play counter strike and older versiones of GTA, and don't seem to have a probleme with those "old games".

I don't want to have anything to do with modern gaming. I'm tired of it. It doesn't entertain me, and exists solely to get my money. For a while I thought the problem was me.

Here you go criticizing people criticizing your criticism
I hate every gamer that whines about someone having an opinion about a game that isnt his.
Especially if those opinions are reasoned objectively and with facts to back it up .
Those Sheep are m e n t a l l y-blinded and arent open for other opinions. They rather stay in the post-truth thinking instead accepting what is objectivly fact .
