1 thing. I messed up with the Vivendi acquisition during the Hit and Run section. Technically, it was a merger since Vivendi owned Blizzard and they merged with Activision to become the monster we now know as Activision-Blizzard. However, all of Vivendi Games' properties would be shelved and ignored and in 2013, Vivendi was bought out as the parent company to Activision-Blizzard. TL;DR, they weren't bought out, they were merged, but were spat out by Activision's business practices nonetheless. I'm glad you all are enjoying the video and I hope the followup doesn't take too long.
I put on this video, watched through the whole thing, went to like it, and realized it only had 160 views!!! I’m not kidding when I say I would’ve expected millions. This is extremely high quality content for a smaller channel and must say I am extremely excited to see where the channel goes. Keep up the good work, and thanks for keeping me so entertained.
8:45 Regarding Sega suing Simpsons Road Rage's dev and publisher, they didn't sue necessarily because of it being a knock-off. Sega actually patented the "arrow pointing the direction" gameplay mechanic, games were not allowed to do that back then except Sega. There were some famous patents in the 2000's where you couldn't do certain gameplay mechanics. A similar example was Namco, who patented being able to put a mini-game during a loading screen. And of course Bioware patenting dialogue wheels. Oh and the nemesis mechanic is patented too. But I agree with you, I don't really like patents in games.
I mean i wouldn't mind a company having one for a few years so people can't just blatantly rip them off, but yeah, patents get given way too much time to exist for.
8:48 That lawsuit wasn´t about the gameplay itself, it was about that pointer arrow at the top of the screen. Sega had a patent for that particular flavour of pointer. It is explained in more detail in the Video "The illegal game mechanic" from f4mi.
@@SECONDQUESTI know Warner Games patented the "nemesis system," which was where enemies could figure out your patterns if you do them again after dying
I always disliked that The Simpsons Game had the camera and AI problems, because the game actually has some of the best level design I've ever seen or played, like the wii version has a completely different episode 15. Where the Xbox/PS versions just have you fight a bunch of enemies, the Wii version has this amazing mansion stage with some insanely clever design and platforming. There's a room with a laser puzzle that extends vertically, reminiscent of Tick Tock Clock from Mario 64, or rooms that use giant pencils as the main hazard. It thematically embodies "matt groaning's mansion" to a T. I've also praised the level design in "Big Super Happy FunFun Game" (PS/Xbox), "Around the World in 80 Bites" and "Heaven" (PS/Xbox), for having super fun platfroming and teaching game mechanics through fantastic design. It truly does suck that the game has those issues, because if it wasn't for those, I truly would think The Simpsons Game is the best game based on the simpsons.
Enjoyed the video, and yeah missing Simpsons games One thing that did pop into mind was from the Simpson Games section. PS2 and Wii would have used the same engine and input systems, so seeing the same camera issues make sense. I went back a couple months ago, and enjoyed playing through the 360 version, the camera wasn’t perfect but not bad.
yeah but they were all released after the turn of the millenium so that still counts as modern right? retro games were in like the 80's and 90's right?
@@NSegaXP okay so i was making the joke because im an insecure 27 year old, however i still do legitimately disagree with this line of thinking because using any sort of number is arbitrary and doesnt actually help anyone. Retro is an aesthetic first and foremost tied to a specific time period. Some will say 6th generation consoles arent graphically up to speed enough to count as "modern", but mgs3 came out 20 years ago and it looks a hell of a lot closer to a ps3 game than it does to a ps1 game
actually for the crazy taxi patent thing I'm pretty sure one of the big issues was the arrow pointing to the goal, if they didn't have that in road rage, Sega would have had FAR LESS of a case. EDIT: well no wonder you think the Simpsons game sucks, you played the three worst versions.....
It be cool if they remake simpson wrestling, skateboarding, hit and run, road rage into one game. Add in beat em up combat into one massive game, improving all mechanics to equal their inspirations. I always liked road rage and loved hit and run.
The patent on Crazy Taxi is even dumber. It's not the structure, the handling or even the concept of arcade taxi action that SEGA have a patent on to sue over... You see the hand at the top of the screen? That's it, that's the entire patent, SEGA patented the arrow at the to of screen for navigation... Turns out it was a bit pointless anyways since because of that limitation that's how we got minimaps and from there GPS style navigation
Yeah, this music is from the multiplayer race mode of the game, and they definitely used the same Casio keyboard series that the Brothers Chaps used to make Homestar Runner's music
It brings me no joy to report that I've only ever played Simpsons Tapped Out. It's pretty sad that the closest thing we've gotten to a console Simpsons game in nearly twenty years is an iphone kart racer crossover with Family Guy and Bob's Burgers that you can airplay on your TV. Hopefully one day they'll come back. Great video!
I completely disagree on your assessment of the humor in The Simpsons Game. In 2007 it was pretty unique for there to be jokes and references to other game franchises. Critiquing what's supposed to be a quick visual gag of Sonic running on a treadmill through a zoomer brainrot lens of "LOOK, SANIC!! IT'S SANIC GUYS!! DEAD MEME!!" is ridiculous.
The music of The Simpsons Game is definitely less exciting at face value compared to what Hit & Run and Road Rage did. It's a much more "serious" orchestra that doesn't grab your attention like those games did, but the compositions are still good and the amount of artists they got together is impressive. And despite the more serious feel, the music has fun in its own way paired with their context. Using straight-up classical music for a boss fight is the standout highlight for me. They also seem to have put in a lot of effort into the technical side, with more instruments being added the further you progress in some levels and the 360 version splitting its music in pieces and stitching them together seamlessly. All that said, I still enjoy Baril and Tyng's work better 'cause they're so easily memorable. The Simpsons Game is my sometimes soundtrack at the end of the day.

Virtual Springfield had such a nice map of the city. It's a shame we saw it through prerendered video as opposed to actually being able to run around it because yeah, it was a 3D map. But then those jokes as you walk about would have had to work differently but whatever. I want to see that map again as a full 3D thing and not through pre rendered video....I never will. Crazy Taxi is such a thief, it's not the first taxi game and it even stole the crazy hop mechanic later on from a 1984 game called Taxi Driver (No relation to the film.) Also Hit and Run is more like Driver 2, but with more platforming and collectables. The mission structure in the vehicles is way more Driver 2 than GTA by far. If you like licenced games, check out The Warriors for the PS2/Xbox.
You have unlocked a memory from my childhood that I thought I could seal away for life... that Vox Nerduli mission, that loading screen instructing the player to race the nerd to the java server... I have seen it WAY too many times and it still makes me sick... that mission is evil, pure evil nothing else lol anyway good video!

"don't have a cow" was so popular because Bart was unlike any main sitcom kid at the time. That level of "rebelliousness" was very stand out.
TBH, I always thought Itchy and Scratchy would be great additions to a Mortal Kombat game...
Fun fact: The Studio that made The Simpsons Game also made the original Dead Space. EA has since closed it down.

Supposedly the Simpsons game ran on the same engine as the Godfather game.
