@@VeryNiceSmileDental when is the recommended time to floss, like do i floss twice a day before and after sleep?
Hi, flossing once a day is usually enough. The best time for you is the time when you can do it everyday and be consistent about it. I floss at night before bed.
Finally!!! A video that shows how to floss my back teeth with an instrument. Thank you, Thank you.
You're welcome! Glad it helped!
I wish I knew this when I was a kid. No one taught me wtf
Thank you very much for watching!
In Swedish schools the dentist visit each school when your around 9-10 years old. Just as police visit school to teach kids bicycle rules in traffic. Also the dentist will always tell you how to clean your teeths properly, everytime you are there as a kid they will repeat the instructions on each visit. In Sweden we have free teeth care up to the age of 23. Adults teeth are protected by a high cost program. It means that if your cost for fixing your teeth goes beyond a certain amount you get a discount. For ex if i have to pay more then 300euro i get % discount and the discount % goes up when the price goes up that you have to pay the dentist.
I never go to private clinics. The Swedish state owns the dentist program and whats good about that it's unlike private clinics, the official will leave you a gurantee on your teeth. So you don't have to pay anything if you need to back once again after fixing a hole in your teeth.

@Memento The USA sucks...
To answer your question, honestly I do like the small floss picks much better because I can floss my teeth while I am using one hand and not thinking about it, and this small thing keeps me brushing my teeth at night (I do in the morning too, but the night is when I use my floss). Thanks for this video.
As a dentist, it doesn't matter what tool you use, it's more important that you clean between your teeth everyday.
I've been sliding to the sides like using a saw. no wonder my gum was bleeding. Thank you it was very helpful

Thank you for showing how to replace the head on the floss pick with the long handle. For some reason the company that sold mine (Listerine) doesn't have directions on their site.
You're welcome! My flosser is so old, it still say's "Reach" on it. I guess Reach sold the design to Listerine. Thanks very much for watching!
As a person with a small mouth and cerebral palsy, the Reach flosser makes it so much easier to take care of myself, as well as an electric toothbrush.
Great to hear! Thank you very much for watching!
@@VeryNiceSmileDental I was told by a dentist that the reach flosser isn't "good enough" compared to regular floss? and I've been practicing, and change the head very often, and Ive been practicing, but he argued that I have to use regular string floss which is extremely hard.
Both regular dental floss and the Reach access flosser are tools to help you clean the in between sides of your teeth. You should be able to do a good job flossing with the flosser, especially if using regular floss is difficult for you.
I used to not floss because I have executive functioning issues and regular flossing is too much, plus the floss really hurts my fingers.
I recently decided, though, that imperfect flossing is better than no flossing and was willing to give these a try. I’ve managed to stick to it but my gums really hurt about a week in: I think I was being too rough pushing it against the tooth under the gum.
Great job! I'm happy that you started flossing. You may need to get your teeth cleaned if it's been more than 6 months since your last dental cleaning. In the mean time, just focus on your flossing technique. Like anything, it takes time and practice to learn how to do it, and get good at it. Thank you very much for watching!
Flossers for the win! I have a pretty wicked under-bite and it really helps me get the back teeth without pain!! Idky I watched this btw but great info!

I would not floss at all if not for the floss picks. I have never had luck with regular floss no matter how many times my dentist tries to show me how to do it. i didn't know about that Reach re-usable type of floss pick. I have very tight facial muscles, so that will really help me get back in there and get those 1st and 2nd molars flossed . .. even with the in-line style floss pick, those are tough to access!
The Reach flosser (now made by Listerine and called the Listerine Flosser) is great for flossing between your molars. Thank you for the comment and thanks very much for watching!
Thank you for creating these helpful videos. Best wishes for you.
Regarding the floss pick vs interdental brush "debate", is it ok for the metal tip of the interdental brush to slightly grind against the enamel before entering the hole? I mean it doesn't go inside the first time and the grinding sound it makes is worrying. Its kind of feeling like its abrasive or something.
Just use the interdental brush gently and you should be fine. Thank you very much for watching!
Nice!!!! Great video
Thanks very much Adam!
Thank you so much for this video. It was very educational! My question is, can an interdental brush replace flossing? Thank you :)
If the space is big enough for the interdental brush you can use that instead. Just be sure to rub the sides of the teeth on both sides.
Also, I wanted your input on my oral hygiene routine? Some of my teeth are tight on the bottom and I have some work that needs to get done, but not an option right now.
First I use a water flosser for food debris, then my reach flosser as best as I can.
I use an Oral B electric toothbrush that buzzes twice with each mouth section and buzzes three times when 2 minutes is up. In also has a red light to tell me if I'm pressing too hard.
I start with gum line, then front of teeth, back of teeth, top of teeth. With Colgate Total.
Then I use a little silicone thing to clean my tongue.
at night I use some dye free (allergies) mouthwash after to really clean my mouth at the end of the day.
Sounds like a good plan. Just pay attention to what you are doing when you floss and brush. Some people get distracted when brushing and don't brush properly and miss areas in their mouth. Thank you very much for watching.
Thank you
You're welcome!
Floss picks >>> dental floss for me., it's 10x easier to floss my molars and premolars with them and makes flossing overall more effective as a result. Thank you for this video ^^
Thank you. They are all tools, use the one that works best for you.
Thanks
You're welcome.
Sometimes a floss pick does not want to come out of the gap, and the suggestion to cut the string would certainly work. However, I have found that the pick can come out if the pick handle is angled with the handle tip either raised or lowered before trying to remove the pick. A pick string can get caught on the bottom edge of a cap, and tilting the pick angles the string and the keeps the string from catching on the lower edge of the cap.
It was highly controversial for my family to have made me transition to flosspicks instead of improving the flossing, particularly with the string floss, in general.
The biggest issue had to be the risk of distributing debris and bacteria which took years to be addressed... I ended up getting gap fillings and worse...
I ended up using four floss picks(one for each quadrant) and wipe em with a tissue and rinse.
However, I went back to string flossing, which I finally got handy with and took advantage of using different cleaner sections of the string.
Great to hear that your flossing every day. I find using string floss easier than using a floss pick as well. Don't worry about distributing bacteria, the bacteria is all through your mouth (the mouth is not sterile) anyway. Thank you very much for watching!
@@VeryNiceSmileDentalThanks for this comment. I just started flossing and the user above made me think I was going to make my gums worse by failing to not use clean floss in between teeth.
My solution is to use water on floss to get rid of debris after every few teeth to ensure floss is clean for most teeth.
The 5 person who dislike the video probably doesn’t flossing or don’t like floss.
Thank you very much for the comment and thank you for watching!
14 now lol
so thought I was told (I honk by the dentist, not sure) to use the pick portion of the floss stick to go between each tooth. so after flossing I use the stick portion to push between each tooth. Think I was told that would strengthen my gums, correct or way off base?
Hi, you can use the stick portion of the floss pick to clean the in between sides of your teeth. Pushing on your gums won't make them stronger. Removing the plaque on your teeth will make your gums stronger. The plaque causes inflammation in your gums which causes them to bleed. Remove the plaque and your gums will get healthier. Thanks very much for watching!
Question would it be beneficial to put toothpaste on the floss to get toothpaste to where my toothbrush cant or doesnt it matter?
Hi, I don't think it would make much of a difference.
Can u still use the small white floss pick (the one you showed in this video) for flossing the teeth at the back? I only have those floss picks available where i’m from and I have difficulty using normal floss to floss my teeth at the back sides cause my hands are too big.
Yes you can, but they may be a little bit more awkward to use. Thank you very much for watching!
@@VeryNiceSmileDental Thank you!
If you can't remove it, don't panic. Get some pliers and pull the teeth out
Lol ! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. I never get used to string floss so I always use the 3D floss (similar to Reach Access) and very happy with it. Awhile ago, I stumbled on a video and the dentist in the video mentioned that 3D floss spreads the bacteria. TBH, I was shocked. Because I don't know that in the same mouth, bacteria stays in one place only. I think this is ridiculous. Could anyone confirm this and explain why?
Hi, there were studies done back in the '70's that showed that bacteria could be moved from one tooth to another by the dental explorer (the pick a dentist uses to check for cavities). (link to the study journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/00220345790580080201) I wasn't able to find more current studies about that or about moving bacteria around with dental floss. I think that most likely, the bacteria will make their way around your whole mouth on their own eventually.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental Thank you so much for your quick response and the link. Yes, that's what I was trying to say. Bacteria will move around your mouth not because you use the same floss for different tooth.
Can you review a water electrical floss or does it actually work?
I'm working on a couple of water flosser videos. I will post them in a few weeks. Thank you very much for watching.
can i use the same floss pick for every tooth or do i need to throw away and use a different pick for each tooth?
You can use the same pick for your entire mouth. Thank you very much for watching.
Is there a difference in efficiency and results or does it not make a difference which one you use?
They're all tools to do a job. Use the one that works best for you. Thank you very much for watching.
Floss everyday & after meals 😉
Awesome! Great job!
this might be an odd question but how do i floss a tooth that is not next to another tooth? I had two molars removed on each side of my top and it's the tooth that's next to where your wisdom teeth come in that's by itself.
Hi, you floss them like you would any other teeth. Push the floss against the front side of the tooth, then move the floss up and down. Then wrap the floss around the back side of the tooth and move it up and down. Please check out my "How to Floss" video. I show how to floss the back side of a tooth. ua-cam.com/video/KXLOs0CJfNo/v-deo.html
Thanks for creating this video! I do have a question. I have early periodontitis and have implemented string flossing along side water flossing into my oral routine. I find it extremely difficult with string flossing and it would take me upwards of 10 minutes to clean 75% of my teeth. Would this be a safe alternative for me? I'm more worried about the bacteria transferring.
Thank you! Yes using a floss pick is a safe alternative to traditional flossing. Don't worry about transferring bacteria. The bacteria are already on every tooth in your mouth. Thank you very much for watching!
Hi! Thanks for the tutorial vid. I’m newbie in flossing lol and I have a question, when you said we can’t remove the dental floss pick (1:54), is that common condition? I mean.... I have anxiety right after knowing that hahaha. Hope you can reply this, thanks a bunch!
Hi, it doesn't happen but it can happen. I've had a couple of patients tell me that it happened to them. Thank you very much for watching.
I have a hack to easily floss the sawing motion.. Lean the floss pick on top teeth then move your jaw. Floss stays in position while lower jaw move. To do the top lean the floss pick on lower teeth , move your jaw same effect but floss moves with je
Interesting, I will have to give that a try. Thank you very much for watching!
Thank you for showing me I been flossing Wrong lol
You're welcome! Now go floss! Thanks for watching!
My gums hurt after flossing
I have some hard yellow build up on my bottom teeth.
Starting flossing tonight but I suck at it! My gums bleed
I’m trying to get better at brushing my teeth for 2 minutes twice a day.
What mouthwash do you recommend ? When to use it etc
The hard yellow stuff on your teeth is most likely tartar. See your dentist for a cleaning. It will be much easier to floss clean teeth, and your gums won't bleed as much. For mouthwash, if you don't have gum disease, I usually recommend something with fluoride such as ACT or the purple Listerine. At night after you floss and brush, swish with the mouthwash for a minute, then spit it out. Don't rinse, eat or drink anything afterwards, just go to bed. Thank you very much for watching!
it’s normal for ur gums to bleed when u first start flossing. but definitely go schedule a cleaning at a dentist. if you don’t have insurance it should be around $100-150 and do it every 6 months. also if u can try and get some dental insurance see if u can save some coins
Just visited the dentist today about 8 months after my last cleaning and my plaque buildup in as terrible and he told me these floss picks don’t work nearly as well as old fashion wax floss any truth to this ? I use these floss picks and am wondering what gives ? am I using them Incorrectly ?
The floss picks are just a tool. It depends on how you use them. Learn what you need to do to clean your teeth and you can be the MacGyver of oral hygiene. Thank you very much for watching!
Do I need to rinse the pick each time?
No, I only rinse it off if it gets schmutz on it.
do you replace the string after every tooth so you don't move bacteria from one place to another? That seems like a lot of work.
You can use the same piece of floss to floss your entire mouth. The bacteria are already every where in your mouth.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental Thank you :)
Hey how would you do this with a crown?
Same way as if it was a natural tooth. Does that make sense?
Floss picks allow me to clean between the teeth all the way back that I could not reach with hand held floss. I also prefer double string floss because it actually removes food matter caught between the two strings. I repeat the step until the strings show no remaing matter.
Dont we have to change the thread for each teath?
Thank you for the comment. No you don't need to use a new floss pick for each tooth. If you get plaque or food stuck to the string just rinse it off with some water. Thank you very much for watching!
Should I use a different pick for my top teeth and my bottom teeth? Should 1 pick floss the entire mouth? Should I rise with water after each floss?
You can use the same pick to floss every tooth. Clean off any plaque that accumulates on the pick.
do i use the same floss thingy for all my teeth
Yes. You can rinse off any pieces of food or plaque that get stuck to it. Thank you very much for watching.
After you finish flossing between one set of teeth, do you need to use a new floss pick since the other one is dirty?
Hi, I'll use the same floss pick to floss my upper and lower teeth. Then I'll throw it away. I will rinse it off as I floss to remove any plaque or food on the floss pick.
@Liabad Biabad yes that will work too.
but i have braces. What can i do? i dont have those special floss picks that can go inbetween my braces please help!
A better option for braces would be a water flosser. Some have small brush head attachments. I made a couple of water flosser videos you can check out.
What is a water flosser: ua-cam.com/video/bNkBgQegsTA/v-deo.html

Wait. So my flossing is probably the reason I have gingivitis? When I floss, I do what you say, but then I also bring it around front and back and slide it under the gum line. Is this why my gums are receding?
Flossing won't cause gingivitis. Gum recession can be caused by gum disease, orthodontics, improper brushing and flossing, tooth grinding, or even just genetics. Thank you very much for watching.
So these inline things are use once and throw away. That had me confused.
Hi, yes you can use one of the inline flossers to floss all your teeth and then toss it out afterwards. The access flosser (the perpendicular) I just rinse off after I use it and put it in a toothbrush holder cup. I'll change the floss part after a few uses.
I always want to floss using those but I'm some how always scared that I'll accidentally cause one of my teeth/gums to fall even tho they aren't loose :/
Don't worry, you won't cause any damage by using a floss pick or dental floss, as long as your teeth and gums are healthy. If a filling is loose, you may dislodge it but that's a good thing. Then you'll know that the filling needed to be replaced. Thank you for watching!
Is the string of floss pick renewable?
Not on the little floss picks. It is replaceable on the Access Flosser. Thank you very much for watching.
It's an even-numbered month so I'm brushing my teeth this month.
That's a start. Thank you very much for watching.
How do I get to the very back of my mouth when my mouth is small?
Hi, probably the easiest way to reach your back teeth would be to use the Access flosser (it's made by Listerine now). And remember to open your mouth as wide as you can. Otherwise try using regular floss with your fingers. It will take some practice though. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching.
will this cause gaps in between my teeth?
No it won't. Thank you very much for watching.
This was very helpful. Will flossing help if my gums are bad (some areas are dark) and one of my molars are missing and the rest are basically cavities? I wish I could go to a dentist but it’s not possible in my country rn :(
Flossing should help, but ideally, see your dentist and get your problems treated first. Flossing just enables you to maintain what you have. Thank you very much for watching.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental thanks for replying!
Question, that disposable floss pic has two strings on it. Is that the way it is made or are you using two?
Hi, that particular brand of floss pick has 2 stings in a narrow "X" shape. When I use it I don't really notice a difference between that and the regular floss picks with only one string. Have you used that style of floss pick before?
Can I use a floss picker if I have braces ?
No, you need to use a floss threader to get the floss in between the teeth but underneath the wire. I have a video that teaches how to use a floss threader. Thank you very much for watching.
Would you use a different floss pick for each tooth?
No, you can use the same pick for your entire mouth. Just rinse off any food or plaque that sticks to the string.
Learning to floss is my 2022 resolution
Good luck! Thanks for watching.
How long one floss used
Hi, I use a new floss pick each time I floss my teeth.
Can I use a toothpick with brush to substitute flossing?
You can as long as you use the toothpick properly. You have to scrap the plaque off of the in between sides of your teeth with the toothpick. Thank you very much for watching.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental Roger that Dr. Thanks for the concise explanations and insights.
You're welcome!
Does flossing cause gaps?
Hi, proper flossing does not cause gaps. Over aggressive flossing can cause gum recession though. Thank you very much for watching!
Where can get them in kuwait
I don't know. In the USA they are sold in grocery stores, pharmacies, and stores such as Target and Walmart.
Should you rinse off or change floss picks for each space?
Hi, I usually rinse off the floss pick when I get plaque on it. Then I throw it out after I floss every tooth.
The only brand I can use are Glide Floss Picks, which are more like flat, than regular floss.
Trouble is, they are becoming very expensive. I've tried going for cheaper brands, but the floss either can't get between my teeth, or when it does, it invariably gets stuck!
I personally use Glide Floss, it works the best for my teeth. Thanks for watching!
I've noticed gaps between my teeth after flossing my teeth.😭 I had no gaps earlier in my central incisors!!!

My teeth seem to be so close to each other because I have trouble pushing the floss in between teeth
Try using Glide floss. It's slippery and is easier to get in between tight teeth. Thank you very much for watching.

These flossers make zero sense to me, as I've been told to use a new piece or section of floss for every tooth, to avoid plaque/bacteria transfer. I guess these aren't too expensive, but using and tossing 30 handles daily seems like a waste of something...
