      In Swedish schools the dentist visit each school when your around 9-10 years old. Just as police visit school to teach kids bicycle rules in traffic. Also the dentist will always tell you how to clean your teeths properly, everytime you are there as a kid they will repeat the instructions on each visit. In Sweden we have free teeth care up to the age of 23. Adults teeth are protected by a high cost program. It means that if your cost for fixing your teeth goes beyond a certain amount you get a discount. For ex if i have to pay more then 300euro i get % discount and the discount % goes up when the price goes up that you have to pay the dentist.
      I never go to private clinics. The Swedish state owns the dentist program and whats good about that it's unlike private clinics, the official will leave you a gurantee on your teeth. So you don't have to pay anything if you need to back once again after fixing a hole in your teeth.

    I used to not floss because I have executive functioning issues and regular flossing is too much, plus the floss really hurts my fingers.
    I recently decided, though, that imperfect flossing is better than no flossing and was willing to give these a try. I’ve managed to stick to it but my gums really hurt about a week in: I think I was being too rough pushing it against the tooth under the gum.

    Also, I wanted your input on my oral hygiene routine? Some of my teeth are tight on the bottom and I have some work that needs to get done, but not an option right now.
    First I use a water flosser for food debris, then my reach flosser as best as I can.
    I use an Oral B electric toothbrush that buzzes twice with each mouth section and buzzes three times when 2 minutes is up. In also has a red light to tell me if I'm pressing too hard.
    I start with gum line, then front of teeth, back of teeth, top of teeth. With Colgate Total.
    Then I use a little silicone thing to clean my tongue.
    at night I use some dye free (allergies) mouthwash after to really clean my mouth at the end of the day.

    Sometimes a floss pick does not want to come out of the gap, and the suggestion to cut the string would certainly work. However, I have found that the pick can come out if the pick handle is angled with the handle tip either raised or lowered before trying to remove the pick. A pick string can get caught on the bottom edge of a cap, and tilting the pick angles the string and the keeps the string from catching on the lower edge of the cap.

  • @acspectator8636
    @acspectator8636 2 роки тому +20

    It was highly controversial for my family to have made me transition to flosspicks instead of improving the flossing, particularly with the string floss, in general.
    The biggest issue had to be the risk of distributing debris and bacteria which took years to be addressed... I ended up getting gap fillings and worse...
    I ended up using four floss picks(one for each quadrant) and wipe em with a tissue and rinse.
    However, I went back to string flossing, which I finally got handy with and took advantage of using different cleaner sections of the string.

    • @VeryNiceSmileDental
      @VeryNiceSmileDental  2 роки тому +19

      Great to hear that your flossing every day. I find using string floss easier than using a floss pick as well. Don't worry about distributing bacteria, the bacteria is all through your mouth (the mouth is not sterile) anyway. Thank you very much for watching!

    so thought I was told (I honk by the dentist, not sure) to use the pick portion of the floss stick to go between each tooth. so after flossing I use the stick portion to push between each tooth. Think I was told that would strengthen my gums, correct or way off base?

    • @VeryNiceSmileDental
      @VeryNiceSmileDental  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, you can use the stick portion of the floss pick to clean the in between sides of your teeth. Pushing on your gums won't make them stronger. Removing the plaque on your teeth will make your gums stronger. The plaque causes inflammation in your gums which causes them to bleed. Remove the plaque and your gums will get healthier. Awhile ago, I stumbled on a video and the dentist in the video mentioned that 3D floss spreads the bacteria. TBH, I was shocked. • @VeryNiceSmileDental
      @VeryNiceSmileDental  2 роки тому +2

      Hi, there were studies done back in the '70's that showed that bacteria could be moved from one tooth to another by the dental explorer (the pick a dentist uses to check for cavities). (link to the study journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/00220345790580080201) I wasn't able to find more current studies about that or about moving bacteria around with dental floss. I think that most likely, the bacteria will make their way around your whole mouth on their own eventually.

    I have some hard yellow build up on my bottom teeth.
    Starting flossing tonight but I suck at it! My gums bleed
    I’m trying to get better at brushing my teeth for 2 minutes twice a day.
    What mouthwash do you recommend ? When to use it etc

    • @VeryNiceSmileDental
      @VeryNiceSmileDental  2 роки тому +1

      The hard yellow stuff on your teeth is most likely tartar. See your dentist for a cleaning. It will be much easier to floss clean teeth, and your gums won't bleed as much. For mouthwash, if you don't have gum disease, I usually recommend something with fluoride such as ACT or the purple Listerine. At night after you floss and brush, swish with the mouthwash for a minute, then spit it out. Don't rinse, eat or drink anything afterwards, just go to bed. Thank you very much for watching!

      it’s normal for ur gums to bleed when u first start flossing. but definitely go schedule a cleaning at a dentist. if you don’t have insurance it should be around $100-150 and do it every 6 months. also if u can try and get some dental insurance see if u can save some coins

    Wait. So my flossing is probably the reason I have gingivitis? When I floss, I do what you say, but then I also bring it around front and back and slide it under the gum line. Is this why my gums are receding?

    • @VeryNiceSmileDental
      @VeryNiceSmileDental  2 роки тому

      Flossing won't cause gingivitis. Gum recession can be caused by gum disease, orthodontics, improper brushing and flossing, tooth grinding, or even just genetics. Thank you very much for watching.

      Don't worry, you won't cause any damage by using a floss pick or dental floss, as long as your teeth and gums are healthy. If a filling is loose, you may dislodge it but that's a good thing. Then you'll know that the filling needed to be replaced. Thank you for watching!
