I am getting my upper left molar extracted today. I had my upper right molar removed a few years ago, but I forgot what it was like. I have watched a few of these videos from various dentists. While they were all informative and helpful, you are the only dentist who actually responded to the comments. Thank you for that! As a side note, I have a very small mouth and jaw. After my upper right molar was removed my teeth shifted and made that side of my mouth more comfortable and easier to floss the teeth. I am looking forward to the same thing happening on the left side! Thanks again. 😀
@@VeryNiceSmileDental Went pretty well.I was knocked out cus of my anxiety but now im just bleeding a decent amount but that is it.Ty again for the lovely video
Hey Doc, very informative video and good work on it. I just had two teeth removed, one upper, one lower, 3rd from the back, and another two to go in a little over a week in preperation for braces. I notice the clot continually coming out doing simple things like drinking water. Its been 24 hours since extraction and I am concerned that little things like eating mashed potatoes, or drinking water will cause more clotting to be removed. How am I supposed to get to a point of brushing my teeth, or rinsing with salt water if I cant even eat mashed potatoes without removing a clot? Also, how do I clean the food out of the extraction site without removing the clot?
Give the extraction sites another day before you start rinsing. It is normal to see little bits of blood in the beginning. Once the clots are firmly established in the extraction sockets you should be able to brush your teeth and rinse without disturbing them. Thank you very much for watching.
Nope, I was partly sedated, brain go fly made to max, because of my anxiety. But, thank you. I didn't know what to do since I received no instructions, that or I couldn't find, and it had been bleeding for a few hours now.
i have to have several removed in hospital knocked out mid january not a fan of it but they are really bad ive had major pain and infections cause of it too
Hi Doc. I had a lower tooth pulled on June 16th. It broke off and the dentist had to dig out the root. I realize it's normal to have some small fragments work themselves to the surface but there is a sharp piece on the inside of my gums that is poking through that doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I have yellowish white jelly like stuff in the socket itself, which I think is that granulating material that helps it heal. But what bothers me the most right now is that piece of tooth or root or whatever it is sticking out and my tongue keeps rubbing against it getting sore. The gums in that area are very sore and red. It basically feels like when a baby is cutting teeth. Lots of drooling and dull pain. I've been taking ibuprofen to minimize the pain. Is it ok to use Orajel as a topical numbing medication on the gums? I also accidentally disturbed the white stuff, will it grow back together to close the hole? I'm concerned about infection and since I've run out of antibiotics I tried calling my dentist to see if he could prescribe some more, but the receptionist won't let me talk to him. She said that she would give him the message that I called but I never heard back and now it's the 4th of July weekend. I've never had an extraction take this long to heal or have stuff poke through the gums and not come out. Anything I can do to help this heal properly?
Try to get in and see your dentist as soon as you can. Best thing for the discomfort is ibuprofen, and rinse out regularly to keep the area clean. Is the sharp piece of bone/tooth wiggly?
@@VeryNiceSmileDental no, it's not wiggly at all and they won't see me without upfront payment. The extraction had to be paid in full too before the procedure was done. It still has not healed and it's been almost a month now. I've been rinsing with salt water and I've been taking Ibuprofen. My request for additional antibiotics fell on deaf ears. I never heard back from them. I don't think I'll return to this "dentist". I'm done with them.
Can't say without seeing him. What he's describing could be a piece of tooth, a bone spicule, or the edge of the socket, but it sounds like it's a problem that needs to be addressed.
Blessed good afternoon doc. Thank you sooooooooo much for your help advice n support 🥰🙌. Do have a very blessed safe day 🥰. Hollering at you from all the way in the tiny islands of St Vincent n the Grenadines in the Caribbean 🥰🙏
Hey doc! Great informative video! I had my right second molar tooth extracted yesterday and was wondering if I am able to drink ice coffee today? Without a straw?
I got my upper right molar pulled Monday, if Friday and still hurts and my right upper eye by my brow hurts too Im on antibiotics 3xday and ibuprofen as needed a hopefully the pain and pressure will go away
Sorry to hear about your situation. It will get better, it just takes time. If the pain gets worse or if you notice any swelling, call your dentist right away. Thank you very much for watching.
I will be having a molar extraction next week and I'm being pressured to either get a bone graft or collagen, I don't want either one. I'm having nightmares of returning to the dentist, however, this molar needs to get extracted ASAP. Any recommendations
Depending on the situation, if you are thinking of having an implant placed to replace the tooth you are losing, a bone graft may be helpful, or it may not be necessary.
No because they didn't believe allergy and lost 35-40# hopefully this one will come through. More expensive than Manhattan prices but I'd pay just to have this out! Lol
You would've made a better dentist for me. Much of the dentists I had were dishonest enough to neglect mentioning early signs of enamel erosion and gum recessions. All they ever kept focused on was mainly if whether or not and I had cavities. Even when they said no cavities there ought to have been other problems by then. And one appointment they said I had no cavities. A week later however I felt pain and then they revealed that they had xrays showing that I ALREADY had a deep cavity that required a root canal. These cheap dentists had only allowed things to become much worse than they had to be.
Hi Doctor thank you for sharing this amazing video , I had my tooth extraction surgery done today, wherein my 2 molars where removed one of them was the wisdom molar. Until now 8 hours passed I applied the cold compress for back to back 3 hours and feeling better thankfully there is no bleeding. However I would like to ask can I eat lentils and rice within 1st 3 days or to avoid rice ?
Your dentist should have given you some extra gauze to take home with you. Tea bags work well as a substitute, otherwise you can use a small piece of clean cloth. Don't use a tissue or paper towel, bits of it can get stuck to the extraction site. Give your dentist a call, they can give you more gauze. Thank you very much for watching.
Great video! I just had 2 wisdom teeth extracted 3 days ago. I've only had yogurt and water. When will it be safe to start using my water pik again as I plan on eating regular food on day 7? I do have a couple of bridges so I love my water pik.
Hey doc. I ended up leaving my gauze in for almost 14 hours. They bled a good bit after. They came out just fine with not much blood on them and I haven’t replaced em unless it starts again. Is it fine I left em in so long? Got both top wisdom removed. Stayed awake and I’m not taking pain meds. Mom didn’t raise no b**** lol
Just had an extraction, It's been an hour since I left the dentist's office but the bleeding hasn't stopped, I currently have a green tea bag placed on the extraction. I read that coughing can dislodge blood clot, I tried to suppress it but even then the cough came out with the minimal amount of force, Have I dislodged my blood clot? How do I check? The Dentist recommended ice cream but I can eat anything or take pills if my mouth keeps bleeding?
Use some gauze or a slightly wet tea bag and apply pressure to the extraction site for an hour. If the area keeps bleeding after that, call your dentist. Thank you very much for watching.
Interesting that when I was in my thirties, I had a wisdom tooth extracted, and never worried about dry socket. After having two toxic molars extracted this morning, I'm a basket case.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental Two and a half weeks have elapsed, and just had a follow up with my oral surgeon. Both sockets are healing nicely. There is a little aching every now and then.....but nothing ibuprofen can't handle. Both molars were surgically extracted, closure of both sockets may take a few more weeks. No complaints.
I had a wisdom teeth surgically removed yesterday and it was stitched up do i need to visit the doctor to remove stitches or they fall out on their own?
Hey doc I just had my last tooth of my bottom mouth removed today around 12:00 and it’s a whole open space now and it is still bleeding but I’m getting hungry since I didn’t have anything before the procedure can I have soft food?
Yes you should be able to eat soft foods after the extraction, just avoid the extraction site. This video I made might be helpful. ua-cam.com/video/9EAOuBT3vbs/v-deo.html
Im not allowed to take ibuprofen or naproxen because ive had 2 heart attacks . So im on Blood thinners. This is why i get dry sockets . Ive lost quite a few teeth out because of gum desease again because of my amount of medication i have to take
hello doc! im getting all 4 of my pre-molars extracted for braces…… i was wondering if swallowing is okay since im scared to get a dry socket and what kind of foods i can have post 24 hours of the surgery.
Good luck with the extractions. Yes you can swallow and drink normally (no straws though) afterwards. Eat softer foods for a few days (pasta, scrambled eggs, soup, etc) and avoid things like popcorn and nuts. Thank you very much for watching.
Hi doc. I just had a lower left molar removed after an infection. I took antibiotics and im worried that with the tooth out if the infection will go to the other teeth. Also I am starving and having some soft oat meal. I hope it doesnt bother me later. Thanks for the informative video.
Your dentist would have told you if other teeth were infected at the time you had the bad tooth removed. Once the tooth is out, the infection will go since the tooth was the source of the infection. It would spread to other teeth. Thank you very much for watching!
So i had 2 of my teeth extracted today and I’m currently trying to stop the bleeding by applying pressure onto the gauze over it like im supposed to. If the bleeding stops but the blood clot doesn’t form, what do I do? And i’m a bit scared to take the gauze off because i dont want to risk getting an infection or dry socket. If the bleeding stops do i take the gauze off or do i wait until a blood socket appears? And if it takes a day for it to appear should i take off the gauze right now?
Hi, the bleeding stops because a blood clot forms. I usually tell my patients to bite down on the gauze for 30 minutes once they leave my office, then remove the gauze.
Gud afternoon. I found your videos interesting... do i need to remove the gelfoam that the dentist put in my extracted tooth? Or will it dissolve on its own? Any advice? Thank you.
Hi Doc, You are awesome for giving all this valuable information. I really appreciate that.🙂 My father, age 63, has been taking Aspirin 75mg daily as an antiplatelet for the past 2 years since he had a stroke. Our neurologist has advised strictly not to stop Aspirin 75mg before or after the extraction and to continue taking it. I found some literature online and on "medicine interaction checkers" that Ibuprofen should not be taken with when Aspirin is active in the body. So can he take any other safe alternative as a pain killer after the extraction?
Hi, thanks for the kind words. Your best course of action is to check with your dad's physician since they know your dad's medical history. Patients of mine who can't take ibuprofen usually take acetaminophen instead.
Hi, Doc. I recently have two premolar extractions last Sunday and today is Tuesday. I've been rinsing my mouth gently with warm salt water. I was wondering how could I possibly brush my teeth without disturbing the extraction site? I've been trying to figure out how do I brush my teeth with toothpaste without getting the foam unto the extraction site and I'm very confused how do I do it. After brushing, do I rinse it with water as well? But wouldn't that disturb the clot? Please help 😢
Hi, just brush the teeth around the extraction site, don't brush the site directly. Some foam will get into the site but you should be ok. You can rinse out gently with water. I describe a gentle way to rinse in this video, ua-cam.com/video/HBJvxuIUSR0/v-deo.html
Hello Doc, Just had my lower left wisdom tooth extract 5 hours ago and still bleeding, I also take aspirin 100 mg for my heart, should I put back a gaze to stop the bleeding or just wait, I am not spiting but I have so much saliva mix with blood that I let it come out but it already have a bad taste was the tooth was removed.

Hi I just got 2 bottom ones and a top one I'm pretty sure they are molars. But anyway I took the gaze out about 30 minutes after and the 2 teeth blood clots that are next to each other look gross! Is that normal? I'm not sure if I took the gaze out too soon or they look like that because they right next to each other. Either way I'm kind of concerned.
Most likely it's normal for 30 minutes after an extraction. I tell my patients to remove the gauze after about 30 minutes. Thank you very much for watching.
Hi doctor just got my upper and lower wisdom teeth pulled today. Do I leave the gauze on all day or just for a hour. Also should drink water I don’t want to develop dry socket.
I usually tell people to leave the gauze in for 1 hour then remove it. Yes you can drink water but don't use a straw, just drink out of the glass normally. What did you dentist recommend?
@@VeryNiceSmileDental I’m scared to get food in there lol it’s almost like a protective cover for me I’ve had it in all day got my extraction 9am this morning but okay I’m taking it out !!
I usually tell patients to leave the gauze in for 45 minutes to an hour after leaving the office, then throw it away. Only use more gauze if the area starts bleeding again. Thank you very much for watching.
Hello, Doctor. I had my molar tooth extraction yesterday. 03-31-2023. I am only eating ice cream and water. I still see red blood clot but I also it’s kind of going away is this good sign? Hi, let your dentist know what is going on. Having some lingering numbness the day after an extraction can happen but let your dentist know so that they can monitor your situation.

I’m having my upper teeth extracted and will be given an immediate denture. I am nervous about the upcoming appointment. Heard pineapple juice will help with swelling. Would you recommend pineapple juice?
No I wouldn't recommend pineapple juice. For swelling after having teeth extracted I usually recommend ibuprofen and an ice pack. Thank you very much for watching.
Hello Doctor, I got two of my bottoms wisdom teeths removed at once in 27.04.2023. After 3-4 hours after the extraction of the teeth, I spat out a blood clot. I called my dentist and they said "It's all good, it may happen, new clot gonna rise" But after that it's, 29.04.2023 and Im still bleeding from my mouth and also one of the surgical wounds looks much worse than the other one. Im bleeding only from this worse side, that's why Iam curious what's happening. Bot wounds were made at the same time and one of them is much worse
Hi, I usually tell my patients to play it by ear and start eating more regular foods the day after an extraction. I tell them to avoid seeds and nuts for a few weeks.
Hi, yes your teeth will shift over time. How quickly it happens varies from person to person. Other tooth replacement options are a fixed bridge or a removable bridge. Some of my patients get a removable bridge to keep their teeth from shifting until they are ready to get a dental implant. Talk to your dentist about your options. Thanks very much for watching.
I have had pain in the bottom left for years whenever I chewed anything on that side. I decided to have the second molar extracted as it had a large filling and seemed the most likely culprit (it felt sore when I tested it by chewing with a blue dental stick), but in the days since the extraction both the teeth either side of it feel very sore when I press my top teeth down on them or chew, even though I am chewing on the other side of my mouth. I am worried I may have had the wrong tooth pulled. If it is just trauma caused by the extraction, how long should it take to settle down so I know if more needs to be done?
@@VeryNiceSmileDental The teeth are still the same at the moment, but I'll give them more time as my jaw and other bits are still a bit tender, so maybe there is still some healing to be done. Thanks again!

I tell people to avoid things like popcorn and nuts for a few weeks after an extraction. I go into more detail in this video,ua-cam.com/video/9EAOuBT3vbs/v-deo.html
Hi, it can be done. Thank you for the video idea. Basically, you can brush your teeth in the areas not near the extraction site, for instance, if you had a lower left molar pulled, brush your upper teeth and the teeth on the lower right and in the front. Then take a mouth full of water and lean your head side to side, and up and down, then with your head over the sink, open your mouth and let the water run out, don't spit, don't use your cheek muscles. Do that a couple of times to gently rinse out your mouth. I hope that makes sense. I will make a video in the next few days to demonstrate what I'm describing. Thank you very much for watching!
😭 I saw this too late. After I got home I went to pull the gauze out and it was still bleeding. My mouth was full of blood so I rinsed my mouth out - 3 times in a row. Lots of blood. Then I put another gauze in. Bit down 10 minutes. Still bloody. Put new gauze in. Less blood. Did this 3 times. Last gauze was not as much so I took it out and drank a milkshake. 🤦🏽♀️ I’m thinking recipe for dry - I don’t even want to say it!!😭
hey doc just had my back molar taken out and I dont really know what to eat as I dont want the clot falling out or getting dislodged. Also i dont know what to do for cleansing.
For the first couple of days, eat soft foods like scrambled eggs. Don't rinse until a day or two after the extraction, then gently rinse out after every time you eat. Thank you very much for watching.
I had my extraction last Wednesday even tho I told them there's a little bubble of infection near it (where sinuses drain. Now I had my tooth 15 extracted he did bone graft cleared out the jnfection underneath the tooth he pulled now im back with a pulled tooth and infection. I'm taking antibiotics day 5 of 7. Not looking great
I had a tooth extraction of a tooth at the far back a few weeks ago. It left an indentation. What is a good way of getting food out of it when some sticks in?
Hello, i just got my bottom left wisdom tooth and the tooth in front of it removed. No pain yet im still numb. Soo as you said dont wait for the numbness to leave to take your meds 😂that was a sign and i took my first set of meds. I have stitches in. Do they dissolve?
They may be dissolvable stiches. If I use non-dissolvable stiches I have the person come back in a 2 weeks for a follow up so I can remove them. Give them a call just to be sure.
It may be unrelated to the extraction , or it may be due to the pain and discomfort following the extraction. It should go away fairly soon if it's related to the extraction. If it persists, talk to your dentist and see your physician.
I just had my first tooth extraction today around 8am haven't eaten since so when is a good time to eat? Should I wait til Tomorrow? I still have bleeding just not as much
You should be able to eat later the same day after having a tooth extracted. Just eat softer foods and try not to chew on the side where the tooth was extracted.
My papers said I could rinse with warm salt water. I’ve been doing that and spitting. Is that ok? I still have blood tinged saliva when will that stop?
When did you have the tooth removed? After a day or two you can rinse out safely. A tiny bit of blood is normal for the first couple of days after an extraction. If it persists, call your dentist and have them take a look at it. Thank you very much for watching!
Hey doc! I had my wisdom teeth removed 2 bottom 1 top right! All general extractions! 1st of all is it normal for one side to always hurt a little more than the other 2nd is it normal to feel like I'm teething Day 4/5 during the healing process? Finally is it ok that my dentist never gave me an irrigation syringe? Is the saltwater rinses enough? When can I eat normal food again?
After 5 days you can eat normally, just avoid foods with a lot of seeds or nuts that could get stuck in the extraction socket. After a couple of weeks you should be ok to eat everything as long as you are healing properly.
Doc!? I just got my tooth removed and been eating scrambled eggs and now there’s eggs stuck in there?! Should I be concerned or just leave it be. I’m trying not to swish to hard I don’t wanna get a dry socket but idk if it’s good to leave the egg in there 😓😓😓😓😓😭😭😭😭😭 please helppppp

Hi, yes I am a practicing dentist. There is no instant solution for a patient who has pain and swelling. Treatment is usually either a root canal or extraction, and antibiotics. Exact treatment would depend on the situation. Thank you very much for watching.
My wisdom tooth removal happened on Dec 19. I go 1/3 to get my stitches removed. The dentist took my upper teeth that he wasn't supposed to. And now my stitches on my lower left side have ripped. I'm so unhappy about it all. It hurts? But in a very light strange way.

I've done everything wrong because I am only watching this now, I rinsed with salt water because I was feeling very sore and I rinsed heavily. I also drunk with a straw now I am stressed because I don't know if I dislodged the blood clot.
Is it ok to continue using gauze days after extraction? There no bleeding but I'm scared of suction as I unintentionally suck on the extraction site, it's a molar not (wisdom tooth) or does having gauze on it effect the healing? I'm on day 6 after extraction and I still use gauze, but I don't bite down on the gauze I sorta just let it hover above it gently lay above the extraction site, pls help
@@VeryNiceSmileDental aren't I at risk of dry socket or more so dislodging the blood clot(the blood clot still looks dark red and jello like) aren't I at risk until it closes or partially closes? You should be fine, the clot is stabilized in the socket now. Just rinse out after every time you eat to help avoid getting an infection. The stitches will come out easily in a couple of days when you see your dentist.

Sorry to hear about your poor experiences. Thank you very much for watching.
Hi, were they upper or lower molars?
They were upper molars one extreme left and second one next to it.
You should be okay eating lentils and rice. Thank you very much for watching.
Thank you doctor for taking out your valuable time and responding to me here.
I just had my tooth removed ...
And I'd like to know how besides a teabag what else can I use as a gauze
Your dentist should have given you some extra gauze to take home with you. Tea bags work well as a substitute, otherwise you can use a small piece of clean cloth. Don't use a tissue or paper towel, bits of it can get stuck to the extraction site. Give your dentist a call, they can give you more gauze. Thank you very much for watching.

After 10 days you won't have to worry about dry socket anymore. Just rinse out after eating to avoid getting food stuck in the extraction site.

My father, age 63, has been taking Aspirin 75mg daily as an antiplatelet for the past 2 years since he had a stroke. Our neurologist has advised strictly not to stop Aspirin 75mg before or after the extraction and to continue taking it.
I found some literature online and on "medicine interaction checkers" that Ibuprofen should not be taken with when Aspirin is active in the body. So can he take any other safe alternative as a pain killer after the extraction?

how do we brush our teeth if we can spit or rinse doc?

You don't need to use the gauze anymore. After 6 days you are unlikely to get a dry socket. Just gently rinse out your mouth after every time you eat.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental aren't I at risk of dry socket or more so dislodging the blood clot(the blood clot still looks dark red and jello like) aren't I at risk until it closes or partially closes? Of like dislodging what ever is there? And I have stitches, non dissolveable and like the blood clot formed around them, when removing them will it irritate the clot? Sorta like tear it up? I'm supposed to get them removed in the next 2 days
You should be fine, the clot is stabilized in the socket now. Just rinse out after every time you eat to help avoid getting an infection. The stitches will come out easily in a couple of days when you see your dentist.
Hey doc I'm getting a tooth pulled nxt Friday and it's my first one pulled what should I expect
You will be sore afterwards for a few days. During the procedure, you will feel pressure and "pushing" but you shouldn't feel any pain. Thanks for the question and thank you very much for watching.
hi my back tooth is broken and I am only 12 and i saw videos of how broken back tooth get removed and i am crying for real while watching that video so I need an answer if does it hurt and what do i eat? can i still brush my teeth?
Your tooth will numbed before it gets removed. Afterwards eat soft foods for a few days. Avoid brushing that area for a couple of days too. Thank you very much for watching.
I had four molars remove one below sinus brought chunk of bone and holes are huge. I already regret. Teeth came out in one piece. Must've been healthy. Don't know where pain was coming from.😓 What's it suppose to look like. Way bigger holes than I thought
Hi Lauren, which molars were removed?
@@VeryNiceSmileDental 2-3-30- wisdom. Hole below sinus is not a hole that's normal. Gum bone and everything came out and it's so big won't stop bleeding. Can't find anything that looks like this. Can't swallow jello even.start gushing.
The extraction sites shouldn't be bleeding. Give your dentist a call to let them know what is going on.
My bone is broke off in jaw and front of tooth no help for emergency, dear God!
Does your dentist have an after hours number you can call? Small bits of bone coming out of the socket after an extraction is normal.
Hey doc 2.5 weeks in I have SLIGHT pain in my sites of extraction area. Is that just from my healing and it pushing my gums closed? Or is it more.
Is it getting better every day? Then you should be fine. If it's getting worse have your dentist take a look at it as soon as they can.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental I wouldn't say better but definitely not worse.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental do u think I should wait and see how I feel in like another week or what should I do?
Have it looked at as soon as you can just to be safe.
Had a tooth extracted today and I use cotton to bite down on now I took it out and I noticed small pieces stuck to the blood clot what should I do
A little bit of blood will stick to the cotton, that is normal. Don't use any more cotton unless the extraction sockets starts bleeding again.
What I mean is cotton got stuck in my mouth were the blood clot
Ah, gotcha. If it's a small piece, it should unstick itself in a couple of minutes. If it's stuck down inside the socket, call your dentist to take care of it.
