- Here's a method I'm using on some small boxes I'm making.
Stopped grooves are a slow way to work by hand. Therefore half laps and mitres are often used to close a groove that carries through.
The least favourable method is to glue in a slip of timber.
Here, I simply reduce the thickness of the dovetails by the depth of the groove.
An excellent tip, that I’ve seen nowhere else. Thanks.
No problems! I'm sure it's been done before. Perhaps I should quickly coin a catchy name for it for UA-cam immortality. Through lap dovetails?!
👍Good name. Prefix it with ‘OMG! A secret they don’t want you to know!’ and you have algorithm catnip. 😀

Nice solution. Thanks for the tip!
No trouble, thanks for watching!
Excellent method. Going to try this
No problem. Hope it serves you well.
brilliant idea, thank you for sharing 😊
No problem!
Why all that added work ? Wouldn't it be easier to cut the groove with a router bit and just stopped short the dovetail ? That just looked painfully easy to mess up....
Do you adjust the depth of your pins to account for the rebate?
Absolutely. On this occasion I don't set the pins until grooves and prep of the tail board is done. Avoids egg on the face 👍
@@faceedgewoodworking omg makes so much sense. thanks
@@Caleb-fe2dl nice 👌
Seen done with just the groove tail, this would show better.
Thanks Jim.
