"Wish" was the Disney movie that completely phoned it in when it came to following this formula. It was basically:
"Quirky girl with an animal sidekick lives in a happy magical town, but sees a danger that's threatening the magic that makes it special and wants to save it, and she does. The end."

There wasn't even a real threat and steaks. Everyone was living happy in the kingdom and the "villain" was just being a good ruler. Asha, the "protaginist", doomed an entire kingdom

The fact that Disney ( and others ) is making the main protagonist a quirky girl who want to find herself every time is hilarious to me lol 😂

Rapunzel was also quirky she was the one who started the quirky trend I wouldn’t call Raya quirky she really wasn’t quirky and clumsy.

Disney is not the only one that does this. All of Hollywood makes the same movie over and over again fundamentally speaking. Hollywood is ultimately a business that tries to invest is entertainment products that has proven to be a better Return on Investment in the long run. Brand new movies have historically trended to not make money (other than the very few exceptions). It is very difficult to come up with brand new IP that will appeal to a highly divided general audience.

completely agree, and these companies are slowly destroying good movies, great storytelling and what made cinema what it is today.

@@scenesandstructures Good news, While 2d animation is dead in the US, it's still alive in Europe and Japan.

Frozen and Moana were good, so we can understand the characters, love them, and stick to the story, so they're so successful, the other movies aren't that good.

Congratulations on learning about narrative templates, when you find out about monomyths and the "Hero's Journey" you're gonna freak out. Also look up "The Seven Basic Plots" by Christopher Booker, it's a decent read.

Once Disney arrives to a narrative structure that has succes they stick to it until it works no more. Why do You think Disney Princess is a thing? The only odball during that time was Atlantis and it wasnt a "hit"

    • @scenesandstructures
      @scenesandstructures  2 місяці тому

I absolutely agree on the princess formula as well, and it's such a shame that companies like Disney value selling their product more than valuing their audiences expectation (or even their time) and at the same time not knowing that by valuing storytelling, they might actually sell more.

DOn't forget that every of those movies followed the same blury animation. At least Wish finally had a different animation and had new art style with visible outlines.

This is how I feel about Tammy Wynette and why I put her on a lower pedestal than Parton, Rodgers, Lynn and Cash. If you hear one of her songs, you’re heard them all. “He treats me like shit but I’m going keep on loving him because I don’t believe in divorce.” “He dumped me and my life is over.” Same girl, same song.

I dont find disney storytelling as a bad thing they’ve been using this for decades but each story is still distinguishable from one another through characters the narrative and plot but I agree that they should try different story structures, stories like zootopia
I honestly wish disney would just bust the walls like what dreamworks is doing
Not like turning red or wish

Why are we acting as if anime is innocent at this. Shounen anime writes the same protagonist with the same formula over and over again. Isekai is the same boring bland protagonist with harem bull crap over and over again. I’m sick of people acting as if it’s only Hollywood that’s guilty of this were as anime the most beloved media is guilty of this as well.

I HATE WITH ALL MY SOUL THE TRASH OF ENCANTO, WISH, FROZEN AND CLASSIC DISNEY. I WILL NEVER FORGIVE THEM FOR WHAT THEY DID TO MY BEAUTIFUL FAVORITE WARRIOR RAYA WITH THEIR STUPID NANDERTAL COMMENTS IN ATTACKING RAYA.
