Let’s not forget Mike Portnoy declaring _Tales of the Destinies_ to be, in his own words “full on prog metal!” Very high praise, indeed, from someone who definitely knows prog metal.
Hell Dragonforce Force helped record Road of Resistance and performed it with them at a festival.
Herman Li also talks about them a couple times on the Dragonforce YT Channel
and both Joakim Broden (Sabaton), and Aliss White-Glutz (Arch Enemy) have been in their songs. Also corey had them in a song of his as well

Great reaction. Some people were just confused early on - BABYMETAL was not gimmicky, they were simply like nothing they'd ever seen or heard, something new, different and unique.
I have been hearing people say they are a "gimmick" for ten years. If that is true then that is one hell of a gimmick. I have seen them live and everyone gets into it, it was so great. Can't wait to see them again.

This wasn't even the encore to this show. There were two songs to go. Both epic in their own fashion.
Su had just turned sixteen the day before and Moa nd Yui were fourteen.
AND they hadn't even released their first album yet. Just a few videos.
This is the song that made me sit back and think, "I might need to look deeper into this band."

They are pretty much the future. They tour Asia with Metalica and Slipknot. They are featured on the Bring Me the Horizon song called "KingSlayer". They performed on-stage at the AMA's with Rob Halford of Judas Priest. It doesn't get any more metal than that.
And had the guitars in Road of Resistance recorded by the Dragonforce guitarists. Herman Li still talks about them

Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! is one BM fans favorite and got special meaning too. Song is about a 15 years old girl celebrating her birthday going to her first live concert, probably metal, while having melancholy for leaving her childhood behind.
Isn't about any of our girls but they embraced this song like it was made for them, you'll find many special versions of this, even when they celebrate their 20th Birthday.
15 is an important coming of age for Japanese girls, 20 is another important date.
This was at Legend 1997 in 2013 celebrating SuMetal 16th Birthday, and the whole concert was special, if you want to know the rest of the songs finishing this, those are:
- "Akatsuki" Unfinished Version, a beautiful SuMetal solo version with only a piano behind, the original song is a power/speed metal balad
- "Babymetal Death", be ready for this insane ending,
The live concert and also this song got plenty of tributes to the greatest metal bands, like Metallica and X-Japan, specially Yoshiki, the gong at the end is one of those, you'll find more and plenty of this to add to their lore.
The official MV is also creepy for some fans, so you weren't the first one noticing about that, I guess the organ gave that effect, you'll also see the neckbrace there which is a tribute to Yoshiki from X-Japan.
The Kami Band here are glorious set of elite musicians whom were send to help with the metal sound, they rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (especially the guitarrists).
They are:
- Míkio Fujioka, god of guitar, a beloved member, sadly he passed away in 2018. R.I.P.
- Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording some albums.
- BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP. You can see at the end (when SuMetal is crawling to upstairs) his head got written "Happy Birthday".
- Hideki Aoyama,, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father is very famous in Japan music scene.
I would love if you can go with the rest of the songs of this special live concert but if you want another song that ranks high as a favorite you can watch "Megitsune" official MV, of course live performance is even better but the MV shows all the Japanese elements this song got and our girls looking so young here gives you a good dose of kawaiiness. UwU

Not sure if someone touched on this before, so I'll mention it (again?). The gong at the end, as well as the half-mic stand are tributes to the band Queen and their front man, Freddie Mercury, who notoriously used a half-mic stand during all their performances. The gong is a tribute to the end of their most popular song "Bohemian Rhapsody" where a gong is struck as the very final part of the song.
I'm shocked you didn't comment about Su's death glare during the breakdown as Moa and Yui used the smoke cannons. Many people have flinched even at the video of it because she does that glare so well!
This is consistently up there in the conversation for people's favorite BABYMETAL song, however a lot of people have the same issue where they can't actually put songs in any true order because it almost feels like you're insulting the other songs by ranking them lower. Even their less popular songs are still incredibly good, but so many are just next-level, it's amazing to witness.

This song is about a 15 year old girl attending her first Metal concert and thinking about how fast her childhood has passed (in Japan, 15 is an important age because you finish education and move towards a more adult live). Whilst this was the show to celebrate Su-metals 16th birthday she still could relate to the lyrics of the song and managed to express her emotions passionatley. Moa and Yui also performed that song around their 15th birthdays with Su handing them the microphone during the breakdown after the first chorus. Su and Moa also performed the song for their 20th birthday shows (Leged S and Legend M, respectively) and changed the lyrics slightly from 15 to 20. The Moa performance called "Moabanger" is pretty incredible and as I said, if you can squeeze it in, react to it on Moa's birthday, July 4th.
Next one should/could be "Megitsune" which is also a fan favourite!

Baby Metal is something you either get or you don't get. I am so extremely happy that I get it.
I love watching your reactions to Baby Metal!!! I love seeing the joyous expression on your face! This is the first BM video I watched about two years ago and have been completely hooked ever since. These beautiful and talented young ladies have obviously worked their butts off to get to this performance level. Everyone involved deserves kudos. They definitely caught lightening in a bottle!! Nice & thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。Can you believe that this is the 12th song after 11 exhausting performance (and still 2 more) ? In this video, you heard the crowd shout some words at 06:45. The words are "ki-e-ro 消えろ!" meaning "get out of here!" (addressed to crybabies in the metal concert). This crowd's shout in Japanese occurs wherever BM goes on this planet and whenever Su-Metal turns her mic towards audiences. Of course it did in 2019 US tour (20 gigs) and 2020 EU/UK/Russia tour (17 gigs). Last year 2021, eight years after this video, BM played this song in all of 10 BABYMETAL BUDOKAN Concerts with Su's matured voice and Moa's more agitating moves. I witnessed it 9 times at the venue and was enchanted to headbang 9 times ヽ(^o^)丿

Su is such an awesome magical frontwoman; she has the crowd in the palm of her hand, often just by a move of her eyes, a tilt of the head.. and that for a teenager is astonishing. (btw, love the blue hair... or is it green; my old eyes cannot tell)

I can't believe I first saw Babymetal back in 2014! They were just exploding in the western world with their Gimme Chocolate song (which is still so good lol). I've seen them 3 times, each time getting a bigger venue. First was 7th July 2014, The Forum in Kentish Town which is 2,300 capacity, then 8th Nov 2014 at Brixton Academy, just under 5000 capacity, and finally Wembley 2nd April 2016 with a 12,500 capacity. Pretty sure all these shows were sold out or very nearly sold out. Madness! There was also no support acts because they had to start early, like 7pm or something due to their age. The gigs ended at around 9pm, it was really weird.

This is from the same concert as the official video for 'Gimme Chocolate!!', Legend "1997" from December 21st, 2013, just a day after Su's sixteenth birthday.
(1997 was her year of birth)
After the first nine songs with the Babybones pretending to play, the encore featured five songs with live backing from the Kami Band, including this one.
The song is about a girl taking the train to see her first heavy concert on her fifteenth birthday, so it's something Su could relate to, while not being about her specifically.
She was only fourteen when this song was first recorded in 2012.

This song is about coming of age a young girl sneaks out to see a show on her own. The original two side singers or whatever they are each sang this in concert on their birthdays for a couple years till one quit for health I think. I think it was cool to give them their coming of age moments

Unlike previous tracks released by the band, which had her vocal recorded in segments within the songs, Nakamoto had her lines recorded in a single take several times. She had been told to sing and find a story within the music. By the time she had comprehended the story behind the lyrics, she grew capable of singing the entire song naturally. When Mizuno and Kikuchi listened to her shouting "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" for the first time, they felt as if they had seen another cool side of her, surprised by the vocal power. Additionally, the single introduced the members to the whispering style of singing, with the A-side's "Kiero!" (Disappear!) and the B-side's "Uki Uki Midnight". Kobametal was inspired to use it to contrast traditional death growls.
"Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" was announced as a single on April 27, 2012, with a release date set for July 7, 2012. The single was released in two versions: a standard edition, available via CD and digital formats, and a physical limited Hedo-ban ("Head edition"), which contains a CD and a "neck corset" (actually a cervical collar) for headbanging training.[5] Both editions of the single feature the songs "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" and "Uki Uki ★ Midnight" (ウ・キ・ウ・キ★ミッドナイト, "Exhilarating Midnight"), along with instrumental versions (labeled as "Air Vocal ver."). The former took place on Suzuka Nakamoto's actual fifteenth birthday, while the latter was the opening song for the concert. Amazing Band, amazing song, amazing reaction ! - There is a version of this song from Legend M concert ("Headbanger (Moa Version / Legend M)") where Moa sing's main vocals in the last part of the song. Maybe not enough for an extra reaction, but nevertheless highly worthy to give a listen to 🤘

Oh i almost forgot one of their best performances was - Ijime,Dame,Zettai - Live at Sonisphere 2014. That is a set they got moved on to the main stage and amazed the crowd.

This is the song that made me a big fan of BM. I like the synthesizer arrangement, it's very sentimental. The lyrics are also sentimental, and I have taken an assuming arbitrarily that the song is about the youth of the girls who once enthusiastically followed the visual kei band 'X Japan', known as 'Bang gals'. The drummer is Hideki Aoyama, and his father Jun Aoyama was also a great drummer in the J pop scene(RIP).

In related, would like to namedrop PassCode, another Japanese alternative idol group who have one foot in metal. The other foot is in a wide variety of electronic music. They are a ton of fun, and do a really good job of mixing the two styles together. Would either recommend Freely with their new screamer Emily, or Taking You Out with the old screamer Yuna.
Credit to these ladies for the tight choreography (and a hell of a workout), but mad props to Queen Su's vocals.

For the backstory about BLACK BABYMETAL, Yuimetal and Moametal have been wicked and blackened and now, they sing rap music.

This is my all time favorite song.
I always find it rather funny how people like to equate being a "gimmick" as to be the opposite of being talented/good, especially in the music industry.... Sometimes a gimmick is whats needed to break the mold, look at KISS and Slipknot, though they might not be considered gimmick now, but their whole presentation and look was can definitely be seen as a gimmick when it started.... Babymetal is definitely a gimmick, but more than that, it was a handcrafted supergroup. The producer Koba, wanted to refresh the metal scene, so he found the best young talented vocalist he can find (Su) and paired her with her two friends (Yui and Moa) who would be backup singers/dancers/hypewomen to get the crowd involved, and then found the best session musicians in Japan to form the Kamiband to back them up in live shows.... If you look at the some of the best guitarist, bassist, drummers in Japans rock/metal and even Jazz scene, you would find some of them have played in the Kamiband at one time or another. Babymetal definitely kicked open the door for all the recent female Japanese metal/rock bands that has been flooding UA-cam in recent years..... I think Saki from Nemophila said in interview that Babymetal's success is what paved the road for female jrock/metal groups to have greater recognition overseas. And Babymetal is not what you would consider to be a traditional band... Lovebite, Band Maid, Aldious, TriDENT those are bands but Babymetal is a rock opera broadway show. Legend 1997, incidently the show you're watching (not the year the concert was held, but the bday concert of Su who was born in 1997) and Legend S XX Baptism are the best examples of the rock show aspect of Babymetal. Babymetal's metal creds were in question when they started, but having been defended, supported, toured with, and/or collaborated by the likes of Rob Zombie, Cory Taylor, Rob Halford, Red Hot Chili Pepper, Metallica, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, their Metal cred is only questioned by a very small minority. Have fun exploring the rest of their stuff. I'm sure the fans will send you a lot more suggestions.
And ofcourse you had a great view of Su's famous Death Stare when she raised her mic.... I personally think she had the glare going extra strong cuz all she got to do was hold the mic, while Yui and Moa got to play with Cryo guns.

Even though mostly Babymetal music is pure happiness, several songs are sad or makes you feel deeply melancholic. I have witnessed several male reactors that cry of sadness, melancholy or happiness with Babymetal . This music moves your insides, literally. Sometimes i even skip those songs because i know what they do to me.
Yeah I've gotten goosebumps a lot and teary eyed especially with certain songs and reading their translation and watching a killer live performance of it online it's really interesting to me how I can always replicate that feeling and consistently get goosebumps or whatever the band is kickass the symbolism is metal as fuck
