This is the kind of concussed beating that makes me research a boxer's career afterwards. Harris left boxing after this fight, in good health, after 3 years in the pros. He said he knew taking too many shots is bad for you. Today he manages a bar and plays lots of golf.
Thanks for posting. I always think about these guys too. I’m the same age as Jones and I used to love watching his fights. Look what happens to Canelo’s opponents-most don’t come back. Chavez had the same effect on fighters.
Thank you for every one of these remastered fights. It’s SO important to clean these up as much as possible so this younger generation can learn about the great figures from years past. It’s vital to the sport for people to learn it’s history and tbh it’s kind of difficult to watch those old videos with terrible quality. Thank you a bunch for continuing to put these fights on here
I've been waiting to see this fight in HD for many years. Thank you! Roy jones, Ray Robinson, Pernell Whitaker, and Meldrick Taylor are my favorite fighters of all time.
Nah, but great, no doubt, hard to believe what he turned into, you could kayo him today. Still, he was something else, in my opinion, no one better has come along since.
Back in the day Jones was the man; too bad the fighters that beat him once he was past his prime wasn't around to take him on while HE WAS in his prime.
I always enjoyed HBO fights and enjoyed watching Roy as a fighter and as a commentator.

He fought way past his sell by date, thats all that is, if he would’ve retired after beating John Ruiz, maybe the fight after against Tarver, he would be universally recognised as one of the top 5 fighters ever. He’s one of the all time greats regardless, just people have that stick to beat him with, that he lost to Calzaghe etc but those fights mean as much to me as Ali losing to Berbick did, fact is everybody knows that Roy would’ve dazzled against the likes of Calzaghe in his prime. Jesus, the guy beat James Toney in his prime, a young B Hop, Reggie Johnson, Mike McCallum, you think the Calzaghes and Glen Johnsons of this world would’ve even got close to him at his best?
I agree with everything you said. The only problem I found was listing Mike McCallum, as one of the guys he beat. Yes he fought and beat McCallum, but by then Mike was 40 years of age, fighting at Light Heavyweight, and he was by way past his prime old, flabby, and by then no punching power, especially at that weight class. Too bad they couldn't have BOTH been in their prime, and fought at middle weight. Things could have been more interesting. Jones's speed would have probably made the different anyway, but I think the fight could have been better. But that's boxing.
@@billking1751 Realistically he would have lost anyways, Roy was literally invincible to bodyshots i don't think he ever got dropped by one after his prime and that was McCallum best weapon

Roy jones beat Bernard Hopkins, James Toney,Virgil Hill and an old great in Mike Mccallum. Anyone who has not seen Roy's ko of Thomas Tate please watch it,my favourite ko.

For Jones they were not mistakes. They were only mistakes for everyone else who couldn't do what he could do, what he did do, as he cleaned out all the weight divisions
Unfortunately for Roy Jones Junior (like Iron Mike) a limited pool of elite talent at 175 during Roys prime didn't allow us to see his best - BUT dominant wins over Toney & Bhop eliminate any arguments as to the Greatness of RJJ
@Halflionhalffox no thars . I recently watched a great video outlining the many reasons that fight didnt happened. Roy had that american-centric attitude refusing to fight in Europe combined with a belief he should be paid based on his talent not what the box office proves his worth to be (Andre Ward was the same)....but... does anyone really believe Dariusz Michalczewski beats Roy Jones?
@shaunbat5097 absolutely. I meant the era of his undisputed dominance. Really Tyson is over rated. Obviously a huge talent in the 80s but against who? By the 90s Tyson was shot or exposed or a bit of both. Teddy Atlas makes point Tyson never had mental strength. Never got off the canvas to win a fight.

If ever sold in stores, Roy’s jab would only be used as a display weapon. I say that because even tho he has a fast flick jab, he doesn’t really land with it. It’s like he’s afraid to commit to stepping in and landing while moving his head off angle to avoid getting hit. Those combos would’ve ended dude first round if set up with a better jab.
Harris almost knocked himself out by trying to avoid Roy Jones at 1:52 😂😂😂 Damn it, the ref should have stopped the fight when Harris couldn't find his corner at end of second round 😂😂😂😂
You can see in this fight Roy Jones doesn’t like to lead with his shots. He prefers to counterpunch. He gets a lot more leverage when he tags people coming in.
Trump is a long time boxing fan. I'm happy to see him back ! Now Canada just has to get that weak soy boy trudeau out. Props to Harris here, he showed heart.
