Roy Jonez deserves hall of fame twice. First as a great fighter then next for being the best commentator. No boxer turned analyst comes close to Roy in commentary
I met roy and he told me when doing road work always move lateral wise and backwards like have fun with it and also throw punches and move like your shadowboxing and always make sure your moving something
Seeing Roy in action back in the day was something to behold. His style was so entertaining, and he dispensed of his opponents with ease with flash. To say Roy's father was a tad excessive would be an understatement. Roy is a really guy too. He could have gone the other way, which is something that can happen. The son can become the father, and be just as much of a tryant to their own kids.
Hi folks, unfortunately, the video was age-restricted because of the scene showing roosters fighting. UA-cam allowed me to blur out the footage to resolve the issue. I apologize for the blurred part, but this change means more people can watch the video now. Enjoy!
Roy hit Bryant Brannon with 3 left hooks in one second that had him wobbling all over the ring. I know, because I timed it on my VHS player while on slow motion. My favorite boxer of all time, hands down.
8:05 while an understandable thought, the answer is probably yes. As a black kid growing up in poverty I experienced the same thing. I ended up competing on scholarship in division 1 athletics but I would have anyway without a similar childhood. It didn’t make me better..It just made me bitter. What Sr did introduce to Jr. though is boxing and it does indeed sound like his time on the farm influenced his boxing genuinely.
Roy was an athletic and technical genius who stayed in the game one fight too long, and then the one vicious knockout, turned to two, and more....sad, good guy, amazing athlete in his prime
RJJ was a phenom. Before there was Floyd Mayweather, Jr. there was Roy Jones, Jr. And he dominated the P4P list for nearly a decade. Roy's style was premised on speed and agility. His type-2 fast twitch muscle fibers developed through playing other sport (ie. basketball) and training gave him an enormous edge over his opposition. The single biggest mistake RJJ made was rapidly reducing weight after dethroning John Ruiz for the WBA heavyweight championship. That weight reduction should have been natural and over a period of perhaps a year or so. Jones didn't have much fat on his body to allow a rapid weight loss, it was all muscle, the very thing that contributed to his explosiveness. It was evident in the 1st Tarver fight although he got the nod. Jones was just not the same fighter since.
Agreed man. Roy Jones going heavyweight was not like James Toney going heavyweight. Roy Jones was always well conditioned and never had much fat on his body. So he could only go up, never back down. But he tried, and he paid the price.
The first Tarver fight was epic. It was the first time Roy had to fight on will instead of skill, and he pulled it off. If he had retired after that win, he might be considered the GOAT.
Ohh just stfu. Love how outsiders discuss other people parenting skills. If you don’t have kids don’t talk or if you do have kids and you disagree with certain disciplines, don’t do it to your kid(s). Simple
I love your breakdowns, I believe they are the best. Other people are just way too vague, but you dig deeper in everything, from their background to the fighting strategies. Love from Italy ❤
Without question, "whether it's right or wrong?" without questions it's wrong. Roy was and remains one of my favorite fighters, but I had no idea how serious were the beatings Big Roy dished out.
Even tho he lost multiple times later on I believe he’s the greatest boxer to ever put the gloves on.. he’s perfectly built for it and beat ppl like they was average..
That loss in the olympics had to be the most embarrassing robbery in the history of the games...I mean it is still unmatched with respect to the lack of intergrity
I would've loved to see prime Marvin Hagler and Roy at middle weight. Prime Hagler was Iron Man in real live and prime Roy was Flash with a wicked left hook.
My favorite boxer of all time. In fact, I think he is the greatest boxer pound for pound in his prime. Yet, his upbringing breaks my heart. I'd rather he had had a normal childhood without the abuse, even if that meant, he had never become a great fighter.
Great video man.. Just wondering how long he trained with Tom Yonkello from pittsburgh. I thought he put a lot of workmin with Tom Yonkello, not taking anything away from anyone else.
But it actually helped make him the great fighter he became. Many fighters had tough backgrounds, Tyson had a harsh upbringing , Joe Calzaghe was bullied
EVERY SINGLE STAR has an intense training and practice regiment which is why they are stars. This is nothing new or a mystery. In ANY sport the ones who practice the hardest are usually the ones who prevail and most boxers go through crazy regiments
@@tyronetalyor2645 facts. In his prime dude was actually unbeatable by anybody in his natural weight class and above up to heavyweight. That was his limit. Once he fought Carver coming back down had effected his body. His lighting speed was gone over night. But when he was at middle weight he was making Top guys look amateur. To the point they claimed he wasn't fighting anybody. He beat up everybody he could in his era. N made them look like they just started boxing.
I wish my eccentric dad, would have raised me. I know i needed a stricter upbringing. I've never seen a man getting ready for work and coming straight home from work.
He trained like a champ!! And the result... he became a champ!! People are too soft today, letting women and wokies, who don't fight, have a say in how you should train to fight. Diamonds sharpen diamonds, you can try sharpen a blade with a pillow, lol but you know the result. Humans are amazing, from hard work, not by magic or waking up one morning and trying once... you try try try and push push push, muscles need to be stressed to grow ^^ let's grow and become amazing ❤ RJJ is amazing!!
Even in his prime when Jones would go to the ropes it was like his brain shut down. Great fighter but eventually that habit was his undoing. He didn’t use his jab very much either which was unfortunate.
Roy's style was like a masterful Jazz Improv in the ring. Something I've noticed since He git robbed in the '88 Olympics. He knew the rules to bend them to his liking.

This is world class video. Well done. Much respect from Sydney Australia
@ thank you! Glad you enjoyed it 👊
Roy Jonez deserves hall of fame twice. First as a great fighter then next for being the best commentator. No boxer turned analyst comes close to Roy in commentary
I thought George Foreman was a pretty good commentator too.
I agree Roy Jones has impressive boxing IQ. If Jared Anderson would've listen to Roy he probably could've beat Bakole
this guy was like fucking cristiano ronaldo of boxing. athletically built for the sport
His run from 92-03 was crazy! No one could come close to the guy.
Absolutely
I'd have said the "Lionel Messi of Boxing" myself 😆🤣
But means the same.
He was a Genuine "Once in this Generation Talent" !!!
Salvador Sanchez 🇲🇽 is his favorite boxer when Roy was Yung
Nah
He was such an amazing Boxer. My first true love of boxing came from this man. Such a great mind and love listening to him this day
I met roy and he told me when doing road work always move lateral wise and backwards like have fun with it and also throw punches and move like your shadowboxing and always make sure your moving something
How fortunate I am to have been alive during RJJ's reign. Watching nearly all of his championship fights was a great experience.
Jones movements were unreal. Every move is so minimal and efficient. The way he shuffles forward while running. The rope jumping. Unbelievable. 🙌🏻

Roy is one of the hardest workers he still goes all over the boxing world
I was there watching his prime, never seen any other fighter come close to his skill. He truly was unstoppable in his prime, an absolute phenom.

Floyd is the missing link between Roy & Bernard

I don't think a guy losing when he's old. Especially after the weight class moves that RJJ did, should count against guys
The one we been waiting for
One of the all time greats.....natural talent molded by his psycho father gave us Roy Jones Jr
Roy Jones is a GOAT. A true one of a kind bad ass fighter. I was glued to HBO whenever he fought.
Thanks for this video.
Make no mistake this man’s father was a complete monster.

@@allancerf9038 agreed on your first piece - I was shocked to hear that !! 🤨
Best we ever seen
The greatest fighter of my generation.
The only man to turn pro at light middleweight and win a portion of the heavyweight title.
Mental and experimental side of sport is fascinating. Im not talented for sports, yet this generates ideas and inspiration.
Even tho he lost multiple times later on I believe he’s the greatest boxer to ever put the gloves on.. he’s perfectly built for it and beat ppl like they was average..
THANKS ALOT🥊
I saw him hit a guy with seven left hooks it was so fast and amazing to see😮 never seen a man move like that since
Very intricate and insightful…Learned a lot about Roy and his background. Salute 🫡
If I could sum up Roy Jones Jr in one sentence that would be : The best boxer of all times.

Roy was always going to be great.
@@reefnreefer true but it was a blessing in disguise it built a fighter mindset and the working on the farm built a strong foundation for boxing
no he wasnt.... he made roy great
Most of all of the old Greats came from hard, harsh beginnings.
He was that guy, simple as that. There will ever only be one RJJ. Prime Roy was a problem in any era of the sport.
Prime Roy was something else
Roy Jones Reflexes. Decent
Training information starts at 8:25
Give his gold medal,Roy sure showed the world he was the baddest after getting robbed.what a classic statement from ROY........
This desire plus God given talent = GREATNESS! Jesus is real
RJJ is a genius🥊 and his dad was a monster to him
Best talent in boxing ever
One of the most entertaining fighters ever...if u could create a boxer he would be alot like him
Jones would have blasted out both Bivol and Beterbiev
He also took all the Peds that were availble at that time, him and holyfield might be the most geared up boxers of all time

The GOAT
We must have forgot how good Roy was
In my all time top ten pound for pound fighters…RJJ was different
Great doc on a true legend! Earned a subscribe with this 👊🏽

He had so much excess hand speed I imagine him being really hard to attack. He would constantly beat you to the punch.
Good video
Roy Jones Jr was abused by his father. Tough has nothing to do with it. Roy was abused

@tysonrolls9713 absolutely. He was simply to big. He would've knocked Mayweather out.
That chicken thing was genius, he used his superior speed to capitalise when the opponent took the bait
THAT MAN WAS GOD IN THE RING FROM 88-04 .

Roy was the closest thing my generation had to Sugar Ray Robinson or Henry Armstrong.
Could you possibly do a video on pernell whittaker.
It would be awesome to see Muhammad Ali for the “how boxers train” videos!

1200 abs!! That is crazy.
Look up Pacquiaos ab routine 👍
I think basketball definitely helps with boxing as long as it doesn't significantly take away from your boxing specific training
Keep in mind that back then they had no VADA testing and rumor is Roy was on the stuff
