Some say the origin of the French word Bistro is based on the Russian word, быстро. During the Russian occupation of Paris, officers often wanted their food quickly, yelling, "быстро." Thus, быстро- bistro.

Maria that was very interesting, that explains why there are so many Latin roots exist in Russian words. When I learned to read Russian I began peruse Russian dictionaries and when I saw all the Latin roots I formed the opinion that any person who speaks a romance language as their native language could more easily learn Russian than an English speaker. In Romance Languages noun and verb order are interchangeable but in English it is not so, the sentence structure is pretty critical. Thanks again !

So I just noticed. Does the Russian translation for any English words ending with -cy become -tsiya? Same thing with the words you taught on English words ending with -tion?
so what if i learn russian now, then when the time comes for me to speak russian fluently which probably three years from now, then by that time, no russoan speak russian anymore, then what is the point i learn russian? i am really interested in Russian language, by the way
No, that happened 200 years ago. After that Napoleon made a little of a miscalculation and got his ass kicked in Borodino. A bit later the Russian army paraded through Paris. Still, French cultural influence remained strong through the 19th Century until the arrival of the great Russian authors.
@Luke Perret yes. After the disaster in Russia, Napoleon's army was very weakened and Austria, Prussia and the UK joined Russia against France. Also Spain and Portugal started to attack from the west. The allies, including Russians, entered Paris in early 1814 and occupied it at least a few months. I'm not actually sure if they paraded or just marched in normally but they were there. They took many Parisian things back to Russia.

Russia - Putin isn't the reason why Maria doesn't live outside of Russia?
Oh yeah.. I forgot, Russia is a shithole where people used to pray on dictators, who's making their country winter-zimbabwe.
French and English share a common feature then, both are polluted with too many French words!
Remember, none of the monarchs are pure English after 1066, who can you blame? haha
Justin French+German+ Celtics languages= english language.
Не перегибай палку, на французском говорила " верхушка" общества и только.
Однако это очень сильно отразилось на русском языке
What about Napoleon? Did he try to invade Russia?
Yes, he did. Do you know something about 1812-year Napoleon's campaign against Russia?
MrStranger1257 -- Not really. Recently I have been listening to ``Hunters & Collectors - Holy Grail`` which apparently is a song about Napoleon`s campaign to invade Russia. I don`t know if he succeeded or not.
He didn't succeed and finally lost the Army in Russia. As a result Russian Army finished the War in Paris.
