    *Common fixes for "things not working":*
    -Make sure everything is saved!
    -Namespaces and .mcfunction files *cannot* have capital letters or spaces.
    -Make sure load.json and tick.json have the correct function name and namespace inside.
    -Make sure everything is spelled correctly and there are no sneaky typos.
    If the datapack doesn't show up in the list:
    -Check pack.mcmeta.
    -Make sure your file structures are all correct (E.G. datapacks/Datapack Name/data/namespace/functions/)
    -Make sure everything is saved.
    Yes, this tutorial is still up to date as of 1.19! Just change pack format to 10 for 1.19.
    If you're still confused, ask in the #help channel of my discord server!
    Let me know if you found this helpful!

    I've been looking for a video about how to make data packs for a long time, they're usually too hard to understand, or outdated, but I actually enjoyed watching this video with the clever jokes and the personality that was obviously well thought out and balanced between fun and educational, all I have to say is "bravo" this is an amazing video.

    Here's what you should replace the "pack_format" number with for many of the most recent versions!
    For 1.20.3 - 1.20.4: it's 26.
    For 1.20.2: it's 18.
    For 1.20 - 1.20.1: it's 15.
    For 1.19.4: it's 12.
    For 1.19 - 1.19.3: it's 10.

      I just got mine to run, my problem was that I had the “minecraft” folder outside the “data” folder. He doesn’t mention it in the video, but namespaces, paths, folders, and file names must only contain the following symbols: numbers, lowercase, underscore, hyphen/minus, forward slash/directory separator (can’t be used in namespace), and periods. Does any of this help?

You need to click the specific file or folder, then click Save. BTW Legitimoose I love you and I'm going to write a fanfiction about you.

      okay, i havent found a solution, so i made a solution on my own,
      put this line in the tick file:
      function "namespace":"tick.mcfunction"
      i believe this will just repeat the file every time it ends. also make sure to always put that line at the end and replace "namespace" with the name space

    • @ConstantDerivative
      @ConstantDerivative 2 роки тому

      NEVERMIND, DONT DO THAT
      i believe an mcfunction runs once per tick, however calling itself will just cause an infinite loop so it just crashes

    hey legitimoose! i found out you're still answering questions on here and I conveniently have a question myself, can I put spaces in between functions? for example /function kit netherite.mcfunction or would I do kit_netherite.mcfunction? Just wondering because I'm getting into datapack development and I'm trying to figure out how to do commands like these, thanks :D

    • @Legitimoose
      @Legitimoose  3 роки тому +2

      Hi! The answer is: NEVAR! Minecraft is real strict about how you name stuff in datapacks. Only lowercase letters, numbers, and underscores for us lol.

    First of all: Love the content, this is heavily underrated.
    Second of all, I've run into an error. The datapack refuses to load.
    I have checked:
    pack.mcmeta is outside of the data folder.
    all functions (load.mcfunction & tick.mcfunction) are inside of the functions folder under the namespace folder.
    The namespace folder contains no capitals or spaces.
    the minecraft folder contains both .json files, copied exactly from the description with changes to the namespace.
    This reddit post of mine contains screencaps of the exact file system.
    www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/k4vnyz/reload_will_not_load_datapack_any_help/
    Edit: Using "say" instead of "tellraw" yielded results, as well as that for some reason VSCode messed up the formatting in the json files. Starting again from scratch fixed it. Oh well :P.

      Oh, well I'm glad you got that sorted out! Nice job fixing it btw! Debugging is the _real_ skill you have to learn to make datapacks ;)

    Is there a process for using data packs to edit modded loot tables?

  • @capnkill
    @capnkill 3 роки тому +1

    If you are having issues with /reload, try typing in /datapack enable
    after you type that out, there should be something along the lines of "file/datapackname"
    after doing all of the steps right, it should look like /datapack enable "file/datapackname"
    from there the datapack will be enabled and now /reload will work

    3:19 Btw if anyone is using mods (with the curseforge app) go onto the app click on the installation click the three dots then click open folder find your way to it's datapack folder and copy the text at top (path) and paste that into the open folder prompt in VCS
