The editing will feel a bit different so let me know if you guys liked it! :)
hi from chile :)
It was still very enjoyable to watch and I love the sakura Byobu behind you!
The only changes I noticed were your face disappearing a couple of times (which was jarring) and text being used at certain parts (which was helpful in understanding what was being censored).
This was cool, you were a natural.
If you're talking about the creative censoring, I like it.
Just to clarify, Captain K didn't betrayed Rosie. They're also part of the Resistance. Rosie's already dead before the Gestapo knocked on Jojo's house. It's the reason for the thorough search, they already know about his mom and is searching for more evidence. Captain K and Freddy then immediately biked their way to check on Jojo, because they must've heard what happened to Rosie. Captain K deliberately took Elsa's papers so that he's the one to check them and hide inconsistencies (the picture and birthday was wrong), he even said that she looked like a ghost in the picture because he knows the real Inge is already dead. Also, he and Freddy were secretly a gay couple (with hints throughout the film), which is also prohibited in the N*zi. He said to Jojo that Rosie is a good woman, because she knows and she accepts them.
i always feel like so many people miss this
Yeah, also in the final fight scene both of them are wearing pink triangles, which is what nazis had gay people wear to separate them from others
@@liluziintrovert He is also wearing heavy mascara and makeup. Flamboyant outfit. Also, you can see the defeat in his posture as he hands the documents to the Gestapo when he said wait a minute and inquired about the book. Also, when he immediately apologizes for yelling at him almost like they were a couple. You really dont see them alone either lol. I feel like he knew the war was over a long time ago and it was silly so he did not take their policies serious
I love when people say it was *hinted* that they were gay.
@@jimballard1186ya, its like. . .if you know history its pretty apparent that they are gay but also proud german soliders. Probably were there even before the Nazis. . .Sadly, didnt get to see a Germany without them. Alot of accounts of German soliders who were Jewish, gay, black, and communist before the war who had to hide themselves after Hitler rise to power. But were needed for the fight, so they were kept around, as long as they were useful. Can't imagine living such a life.
My favourite bit of trivia about this is when in Interview someone asked Taika "So what preparation did you do to play Hitler? How did you get in character?" and he replied (paraphrasing) "None, I did no preparation, my act was a complete satire, a total piss-take, because fuck Hitler. He's not worth my time. Not only should he know that he's being played by a half Polynesian half Jewish man, a brown Jewish person, but he should know that that that brown Jewish person is putting in minimum effort to get it right, and maximum effort to make him look silly, because fuck him."
Love that 😂😂 because he's right.
Great sentiment! 😅
The dark humor of this movie was done perfectly. The real of the loss of JoJo’s mom was an absolute gut punch
The balance of tone in this film is nothing short of genius. It has absurdity, humour, tragedy, love and friendship. A very uplifting story, like no matter what - in any situation, you can grow and make the human spirit shine through all that carnage and evil.
Roman Davis, the kid who played Jojo, was fantastic (either than or Taika Watiti is a fabulous director, or both). You'd never know this was his first acting experience and he really had to carry the film.
Seriously, what a phenomenal performance.
No, she did not think Nathen wrote the first letter.. she was upset that JoJo would do such an awful thing.
Why wouldn't she believe that a random 10 year old got a letter from her fiance telling her he's tongue kissing other women?
She definitely missed and/or misunderstood so many aspects of this film, which is a shame. But it seems to be common among a lot of people who aren't very familiar with WW2 and the nazi regime. She didn't seem to know what the Hitler Youth was nor the capture of Berlin. Or when she said that the Gestapo wouldn't be that adamant about searching for something in a book. Like, huh? It's the freaking GESTAPO.
Shame too, because this film is 100x better if you understand all the little nuances and innuendos Taika incorporated into it.
I imagine she was also simply upset for thinking of her dead fiancé.
Lol, how are you guys all still getting it wrong? She wasn't genuinely upset. She was fake crying because she knew it would elicit a sympathetic reaction from Jojo, and to teach him a lesson for making up such a mean lie.
@rollfizzlebeef6619 No, she wasn't trying to teach him a lesson. You can literally see her actuallh crying in the next scene with the second letter. She's upset because it was a reminder that Nathan was truly gone, and with Jojo's cruelty.
The part where Sam Rockwell's character looks at Elsa's passport and says Get a new photo, you look like a ghost in this one. Its because he knew it wasn't Inga and that she was dead.
This movie solidified Taika Waititi as a must watch director for me. Jerk made me laugh, cry and then laugh again.
And then he did Thor: Love and Thunder :D
@@BrianLufia I liked the movie. Not his best work but I still enjoyed it.
This movie deserved every accolade it received
And more
just for the record, Captain K did not reported Rosie. He was also part of resistance and gay. He even noticed wrong date on ID of Elsa/Inge
Between Endgame, and an academy award nomination each for Marriage Story & Jojo Rabbit, 2019 really was the year of Scarlett Johansson
"Jojo Rabbit" really deserved its Academy Award win for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2020 Oscars. I absolutely cannot wait for Taika Waititi's newest film "Next Goal Wins" to come out in October.💯
This is my favorite film of 2019. It is just note-perfect. Thank you for digging this reaction out of your archive.
I love this movie because it is such a good blend of comedy and tragedy. Trying to make sense of something as evil as Na$i Germany through the lens of a ten-year-old's mind. Then that absolute gut punch of Rosie's death and the descent into the reality of war. Taiki did an amazing job both acting and directing this movie.
And he wrote the screenplay
im so upset people give him shit because of love and thunder. like marvel fans legitimately think hes an awful director and its probably made him look worse in the industry.
Yes, thanks for pulling this from your Patreon archives! Everybody should have a "real" friend like Yorki.
I dont know how you didnt cry when he found his mom
Hi Vicky!🙂Scarlett Johansson's paternal family is Ashkenazi Jewish who fled Poland and Russia. Their original surname was Schlamberg.😉She really showed off her acting talents in this film!🏆Taika Waititi did an excellent job balancing comedy and drama in such a sensitive subject. It is a very unique film. I own this one in 4K bluray.😉Great reactions to this well made and acted film, Vicky!!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Maternal, not paternal. Her mother's side.
Taika Watiti is also Jewish. Real name is Taika David Cohen.
One of the interesting themes in this film is how the film itself parallels war: in the beginning it's all silly and a bit surreal when it's far off, but it becomes deadly serious when it shows up at your door.
Also, I've seen several reactors watch this film and they all make the same face when they see ScarJo's shoes. Pretty sure I made the same face the first time I saw it.
When you rewatch you see how often the blocking shows of those shoes (in happier settings) before that final scene.
It's one of my favorite movies ever. It's so good. Makes you feel everything.
37:48 “HITLER, PLEASSE!” 😂😂😂OMG..That was sooo randomly funny asf, How serious an off guard you were!! Ctfu 🤦🏾♂️😆😆I lovved this reaction! 👌🏾💯💯💯
The setting of the city in the book was Vienna. The film was shop in Prague, but not sure what city it was meant to portray.
Of course we want those videos! Jojo Rabbit is an absolute jewel of a movie. Sad that you had it hidden away from your UA-cam community for so long!
This movie is hilarious, don't apologize for laughing. Anyone upset is taking a comedy that's joking about serious things. You have to be able to joke about bad things otherwise you live a miserable dark life. And woe V you look beautiful in the intro, the shirt is cool It's kinda like a hot pirate costume shirt
Captain K and Finkel have a pink triangle in their costumes at the end.
A symbol used to identify prisoners arrested for homosexuality in Nazi Germany.
He had a secret of his own and decided to keep Jojo's too. Also adds to his relationship with Jojo's mother, did she know about it and thats why she seems to have some authority over him?
Capt K ran to Jojo's house to protect him after his mother's arrest/death so he clearly had some sense of responsability or loyalty to her
Captain k a real hero!
I remember long ago I asked about your scar and you responded in the comments. Glad to see even back then you weren't afraid to talk about it. Love your scars! They are stories of your life. They are you! And lets be honest, whos wants a boring body that isn't flawed. I have scars, makes me feel unique.
One scar on my forehead is from another girl trying to kiss me when we were around 8. I backed up from her and fell and hit my head lol. Another scar if from a dog bite that went to the bone in my arm. Doggo didn't mean it of course. Among my many other scars! :)
33:06 This movie is showing you a shift in the Boy's mind. The comedy was his innocence and it slowly being turned by reality. He's no longer a kid as that was taken away by war. What he really wanted isn't what he's about anymore. Everything in the next scenes shows a contrast between jojo and his surroundings, jojo vs his previous ideals. He's no longer a kid.
2019 was such a good year for movies
The Rilke quote at the end is similar to a thought I developed during my teen years. Specially during depressed times, I would keep repeating in my mind: "no moment, good or bad, is forever".
"Parasite" was good, but this movie should have won best picture that year.
38:11 omg the bullet wound in his head low key genius.
19:25 no, she didn't believed the first letter was Nathan's, she just got really hurt because of Jojo's cruelty. The first time I watched the movie, the second letter made me cry a lot, I think I just really connect with people who lost beloved ones.
Gosh ! That japanese-style screen reminded me your Ghibli reactions, from your previous account/channel.
I'm still mad they just can't let reactors in peace with that. It's a double loose for them : people who have already seen their movies (and much probably bought them in DVD/BR) get bitter at their policy and less likely to go watch new movies (well... if they even make new movies, it's been ages since I've heard about a Ghibli movie coming in theater). And people who haven't seen them don't have those great reactions that could encourage them to buy their movies. It's literally free advertisement for them, and they say "No, we don't accept you to do that".
Anyway, great reaction, and I'm totally in for discovering reactions you left aside !
The first letter makes a lot more sense when you realize that Nathan is dead and him saying those things hits her heart deeper.
As you mentioned having rabbits, reminded me of my all time favorite book, Watership Down. Haven't read it in awhile but used to read it once a year. Also made a decent movie of it, but that seems a bit primitive now. But I still like it. Because it is about rabbits people assume it is a kid's story. But it very much is not. About wild rabbits.
I'm back to ur channel, I used to be on ur other channel which (for some reason) got terminated obviously, but it's good to see u again, I hope ur doing fine and hope to see more videos from u real soon
I did really like Ragnarök and his episode of The Mandalorian but movies like Jojo Rabbit show to me that Taika Waititi really excels in non-blockbuster films. Besides this I highly recommend "Hunt for the Wilderpeople" to watch for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
What we do in the shadows is his best.
And don't forget "Boy."
My grandfather who lived in these times told me many times: "They stole my childhood Joern..those fcks stole my childhood"..and that resonates even more if I see that movie nowadays
The opening scenes were there to illustrate Hitler's rock star status for many Germans.
A dirty little secret is that many early Nazi leaders were gay. They were some of the major targets during the Night of the Long Knives.
Hitler was a spell-binding speaker. William Shirer (who also wrote The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich) wrote Berlin Diaries, adapted from his own diary entries. He spoke fluent German, and spent many years in Germany before the war as a correspondent for CBS, back when they had real journalists. It's a fascinating read.
Thanks for posting this, ‘twas worth the wait 👍🥰👏🏻🇬🇧
For anyone who likes this movie, i would like to recommend 'Maus'. It's a graphic novel that is set during ww2 and is really, really good ✌️
BRILLIANT work. Should be mandatory reading in Middle School or High School.
Thank You for doing this x Love your content
37:48 “HITLER, PLEASSE!” 🤦🏾♂️😂😂😂saame thing as “NIGHAA, PLEASSSE” lOl🤷🏾♂️😂😂😂OMG..That was sooo randomly funny asf, How serious an off guard you were!! Ctfu 🤦🏾♂️😆😆I lovved this reaction! 👌🏾💯💯💯
I like that you can tell throughout most of the film that Captain K absolute hates it all, even as early as 4:41 you can see that he is very unhappy.
Of course he does, He is gay and a proud German. His "uniform" (that he designed) at the end has the pink triangles that were assigned to gays by the Nazis, but even while he is displaying exactly what he is, he is still fighting for Germany. Very complicated character.
He also knew that Rosie had been caught and showed up at the house to check on the kids (The bike he had was not Rosie's, it was just an excuse to be there in case the Gestapo was there)
@@kevinsizemore2053 Pointing out that they presenting his feelings about it from literally the beginning of the film.
@@Alte.Kameraden I was agreeing and providing other info that is related. Sorry if I phrased it badly
"We need to show the world we weren't all like him." - Claus von Stauffenberg
Such a brilliant, hilarious, and heart-breaking movie. And cool to get a blast from the past, I didn't even really know reaction channels were a thing two years ago.
Also, I think we are all for you uploading any amount of content from the past, I know I'm in. 👍✌❤
Thr first time I watched Jojo Rabbit, I couldnt stop crying after Rosie died. The ending, where they danced to Heroes, is such a testament to all those who took a brave step back then, to protrct innocent lives. Little acts of rebellion, little acts of bravery. The Heroes.
What a WONDERFUL reaction to a truly great film! I ADORE this film. It has made its way into my Top 20 films of all-time.
Many of the greatest comedies have tears, as well. "CITY LIGHTS" and "MODERN TIMES" by Charlie Chaplin. "PLEASANTVILLE"... "AMELIE"... If you haven't seen these films, you certainly should!
The BRILLIANCE of this film is that it takes a whole new way of looking through the darkest time in recent history. Through the eyes of a child. It so accurately captures how a child could (like many Germans) be swept up into the horrors of a Cultish Nazi fanaticism. (The Beatlemania beginning was perfect) It shows through comedy the ridiculous nature of their beliefs and actions. Then is slowly tears it all apart with the simple presence of a wonderful Mom and a Jewish girl. Actually meeting the girl allows empathy and understanding to flow. This was such a brilliant stroke. ...and it all lead up to the moment where a followed butterfly leads to one of the great moments in cinema. It never fails to move me.
The fact that she thought that Elsa believed those fake letters were real is some truly crazy shit
Yeah, I mean, did she really think he would say those things? Not to mention ...the girl wouldn't get letters delivered to a house she's HIDING in.
Your reactions were wonderful throughout the movie.
Awww, little baby Vkunia
35:22 technically, he didn't sacrifice himself, he would die already, but he saved Jojo's life
Ooooh what a nice surprise! I can't wait!
The part with Captain K hit me hard too. Almost as hard as his mom.
When Jojo asks what the people who were hanged did, Rosie says “what they could”… then when JoJo’s “father” talks to him, he says to take care of Rosie, because “she’s doing what she can”
Best (and most bizarre) line of the film: Rebel Wilson saying "We need someone to walk the clones."
When i first heard about this movie I was a bit sceptical. Making fun of Nazis its quite oké like the produces from mel Brooks. Making a comedy about WW2. It is difficult, but this movie made it!!! Some times its good to take the hurdles. Like i also did with Das Boot. First, why watch a movie about WW2 from a German perspective. It is also great, why I cannot tell, it would be a spoiler. Its worth watching.
Digital censoring words and blurring frames is the same as burning books.
Watched this movie twice in the theater. It was that good.
I love the background in this video.
The humor in this movie is like a cross between Mel Brooks and Wes Anderson.
It looks just like a Wes Anderson film. The first time I watched it, I thought, "Woah, it's like a Wes Anderson movie with a soul."
PS a fun fact that lets you know they did a decent amount of homework for this film. The fact that Jojo's sister was never reported as dead by her mother was a common thing during the war in Germany. Because of food rationing during the later years it was common for people to not report the deaths of family members, and people would often even help dispose of of the bodies without State officials knowing about it. So a family of 4 would get the food rations of a family of 4 instead of a now family of 3. During the later years the food rationing was pretty intense. Was so bad that they'd send people door to door counting potatoes making sure you were not stealing, or lets say getting more food than was allocated by the State by other means. However, doing what Jojo's mother did, by not reporting the death of his sister was considered a punishable crime. Because in the eyes of the Nazi Party, you were stealing not just from the State, but stealing food from another German's mouth who would need it.
Being Jojo's mom had an additional person in the house to take care of, she seems to have decided to take that risk. She was already taking many risk.
12:14 Hitler was actually anti smoking and against smoking indoors as well
There was literally a British song during WW2 about Hitler only having one ball.
This is a really great movie Thanks for showing it
and as always have a great Monday V.😊👍💯
I would also recommend " what we don in the shadows" by tiaka waititi thats also funny.
Nice to see Lil VKunia. Great movie and I'm wondering if you picked upon on things you said before in some of your analysis and think that you may have been a bit off on it. Wonderful reaction. Jojo Rabbit is a comedy but it doesn't mean that it has to be serious all the time. I guess it would be a dark comedy, if you want to categorize it. The Hitler Youth Camps were real and they did do a fair amount of indoctrination and brain washing to these young minds. But I like how Jojo made up his own mind about stuff. The mother was probably found out from someone else being arrested and interrogated and the Sam Rockwell character was covering for her and the young Jew. It seemed like you may have thought he turned her in. The shoes bit was really good and I thought we might see them when they were framed earlier on but that was a gut punch.
The Cross of Honor for German women was a real thing. It was award for conceiving and parenting 4 children
Indeed the reason Elsa was upset at Jojo’s first fake letter from Nathan was because she knew he was already dead
Every time I see "bad guy" on the screen, I'm reminded of what I hate about UA-cam.
Thanks--it was a fun movie to revisit.
There is not always a place to hide from the bombing. For example, for the second year I have been living under sirens and explosions. Over time, you stop noticing the air raid siren, it's like a mosquito, there's nothing to be done. You just live on.
I label the VKunia reactions as BCD and PCD, which is "before cat destruction" and "post cat destruction" of the panel background you used to use xD Very nostalgic.
This has to be in my top 5 for best PG-13 f-bomb drops in history, if not number 1.
One of my favorite movies!🎞📽
It requires artistic skills to combine comedy and bloody serious scenes like they did here, and make it work. Even in the same scene we see the Captain dressed like a clown in his fancy uniform and cape, while we also see the Germans, down to last civil man, woman and child in uniforms, fighting, which probably did happen in the last battles of the war.
26:05 Doesn't this guy play the lead Gestapo in Inglorious Bastards as well? he just has that perfect ruthless german face lmao.
No, Stephen Merchant wasn't in Inglourious Basterds. He's a comedian who's mostly known for having co-written and acting in several shows with Ricky Gervais (The Office, Extras, Life's Too Short, an Idiot Abroad). He also voiced Wheatley in Portal 2. The only non-comedy I can think of offhand that he's been in is Logan.
The main Nazi in Inglorious Basterds is Christoph Waltz, who is a fabulous actor.
Beautiful Reaction
That was a great movie. You should watch "Rudy" a beautiful film but keep the tissues handy.
Shit! I said to myself "I'm not gonna cry, this time." I failed , big time. Thanks V.
I facepalmed at "same font used in shrek". Yeah, because Shrek is a german style fairytale. Its called Fraktur - A classic german style font used since the 16th century. It's used in TONS of stuff, especially if associated with German culture, or the Nazi party. The Shrek producers didn't invent it 😂
LOL I know shrek didn't invent it but that's where I knew it from 😭
It’s a classic calligraphy style, originally done by hand with calligraphy pens.
Yeah it's a comedy movie. And even when the tone changes they don't change the comedy. It's just talked about in a more serious tone.
28:49 I didn't get to feed. Either times. Goddamnit
We absolutely need a movie where the two kids in this play younger versions of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Directed by Edgar Wright or Taika Waititi obviously
Oh my God, they're totally young Pegg and Frost! Wow, now that you've pointed that out, I'll never be able to unsee it.
Someone saw the mom leaving the flyers around town. The captain was protecting Mojo and IElsa when he lied for them to the secret police.
The captain and the character played by alfoe Allen are implied to be a gay couple and they are hiding it because the they would be sent to the camps too if it came our
If you enjoyed this movie, I would recommend the Death of Stalin. It's another historical comedy with lots of little tidbits put inside.
Idk if you have but you should reupload stuff from your previous channel if you still have the videos saved
ALL the feels
But Yorki is SUCH a child version of Ricky Gervais, isn't he? 😅🤭
May i suggest hancock 2008.. willsmith .. super hero action sad love story with anger management ☺️☺️ im sure you'll love it
yayyy my favorite movie! 😎😎
is daredevil season 3 coming on youtube anytime soon?
I've seen so many Jojo Rabbit reactions I definitely tought I had seen yours already when I saw the thumbnail
The shoes at the swimming pool always get me. Good bye my sweet love.
I love you mum. I miss you always.
I didn't know you had bunnies. They're awesome little friends. I miss my fiancee's rabbit, Scout. He never gave me kisses like he would with her, but he loved to jump up on the couch and snuggle with me while I watched TV. Or he'd sit at my feet while I was on my computer. Sadly, he passed a few years ago, while he was snuggling on the couch with me. I hope your bunnies are doing well.
21:34 your scar looks cool, btw
Thing is V, its not a comedy. Its an EXTREMELY serious movie about a very serious subject just told through a filter of a childs imaginary world mixed with reality and that pokes fun at the inherent ludicrous stupidy of it all. The comedy just comes naturally without needing to be forced (ok perhaps Taiko's performance as imaginary Hitler is a teensy little bit over the top and excesively silly for effect but you get the idea) Its a bloody masterpiece!
I loved it when I watched it!
6:15 "Hitler! ☺" hahaha
In the camp scenes you were wondering why the boys were posing in that odd way. They were forming swastikas with their arms & legs.
