Problem with fly infestation inside home randomly in summertime

- Intermittently we have been having problems with flies entering our home especially a little while after starting dinner. It appears that the smell is drawing them in from whatever their source is. Today when I arrived home I had our new shutters closed in our office. When I opened each of them there was a very large number of flies in each stuck behind a shutter and somewhat stunned. They were a little bit more lethargic then usual which I suspect is because they were trapped somewhat behind the shutters in the hot void between them and the window for most of the hot sun evening hours. I sealed the right side shutter with a black trash bag and painters tape completely encasing the shutter so that nothing inside the house can get into the window void. This is to determine if the Flies are entering three possible Gap in the screen outside and then migrating up through the channel where the windows slide up and down. If this is the case it will simply be a matter of stuffing that channel with some cheesecloth or other easily removable fabric. I put about one cup of apple cider vinegar inside of the sealed area on the right side shutter to see if that makes any difference. My understanding is that flies love apple cider vinegar so that might help to attract them in that void to see if they are entering through the window from outside.

The reason I say coming through the a/c vents is because every morning I cut the air conditioning off to save more power, But when I hear something buzzing it's like woah where did you from.
I was thinking the same thing--can they come in thru AC vents but I have the Japanese mini-split units and not sure if they can get in through them. These flies are BIG and just started showing up HELP!!!

I had maybe a week of 20-30 flies every day and then suddenly nothing. I'm pretty sure it was probably a case of a fly laying eggs in the house though
What really felt relatable what when you said they were pretty lethargic. Also the same for the amount and places ✨
Strangely, our problem has significantly deminished to maybe 1 fly every couple weeks which could easily be coming through the door when it opens. Not sure if this problem is coming to an end with the change in seasons or if it will return next season or in a month or so? We will see but September has been a pretty decent month

The ultimate test after fixing those small holes around the door on all sides by improving the flashing is to fry up a couple pounds of bacon in the morning on a sunny day and see if they find their way in
Someone please help me. Recently I have noticed flies inside house ans at first I thought the kids left the screen door opened too long but I was wrong. For the past 2 to 3 days , I was killing 10 to 18 flies. I took of the AC window unit and shut the window and they still come back. I checked everywhere for window/ doors cracks and couldn't locate any. My place is clean and I just don't understand
@@fh3486 ya that's what we think but you need to double triple check all the doors and windows they might be coming from somewhere for details watch the video again
I currently have this problem and have suspected the window, but I also have a crawl space where I know rodents end up dying. I just don't see the flies coming out of that crawl space. Visually they're all hanging out by the windows.
Great idea! What would make this even better is to use clear plastic (like the Costco big clear recycling bags) instead of black bags, so you can see the fly accumulations without taking the bags down.
Awesome, thanks! Didn't see an updated video so hope you found and solved the problem. I sealed up the places around the screens on windows where they might walk under, so I'm hopeful that this works.
They just randomly started appearing in my house- I noticed it about a couple of weeks ago. I don’t leave trash out, I live alone, no kids, so I keep my house clean and free of food droppings. I do leave my windows open for fresh air. I went outside around the house to see if I could find anything, and I seen a few of them flying around. But 🤦🏾♀️ I don’t know….. im trying not to get so stressed and worked up about it

The same thing is happening with me at my house all of a sudden and they're big lazy flies in the windows they don't bother humans or animals.
Also known as attic flies and they get caught between the window and the screen and can't get out and they want out. I'm trying to spray them and they want out so bad I'll have to do is open the windows.
Well I had to search for this on UA-cam because I have been going to WAR with these m'fers now last summer and this summer. I've become quite the Fly killing Ninja as a result. I have not been able to figure out how they are getting in either. I think Robert is on to something about the cracks. They must smell food and crawl through the door frames. My Bug-A-Salt has become my best friend as I work form home for COVID. I'm killing about 30 per day right now.
I was fighting with flies for the past 4 days, mostly the living room window. I would kill all of them then within few hours the window is full of flies again. I taped around the window today, and so far I only have one fly that I can’t get to kill 😂. Very stressful

I’m kilt 3 this morning and one left that I can’t kill at all. It’s so fast flying around but I can’t understand where it’s coming from because all my windows are shut tightly and I used tape to seal the top and bottom. I’m wondering if it’s coming from the door when I come in from home 😩😩😩😩 I hate this

I seen a video, it said to add dish soap too...but who knows? Love the Zapper, the orignal was fun. snap, crackle and POP! Can you update us on your fly infestation results?
We ended up with about one fly a day on average until we eventually moved. Those were easily killed by just walking around and spraying the fly with a shot of Windex. Typically they would land on the sunny window which made them easy targets. The Windex almost disables them every single time making them easy prey

Hello. We had the same problem. We came back from the lake, and we found few flies inside. Little ones and big one. Everything closed. Kind of strange, but we let them go out. Probably they came from the attic. It is summer after all.
This is going to get long, but I had to vent.
I had the same problem last summer and it almost tore my sanity to shreds. They KEPT. GETTING IN. I was waving around my hand held vacuum cleaner like a weapon and sucking them up but nothing worked.
I cleaned, rearranged the room and cleaned again. I tried spraying the entire place with lemongrass essential oil till my desk mate cringed when I walked into class. Sealed shut the windows. Everything.
The room is closed tight. Like not even a breeze gets in, and it's not even food. And before the flies started I had like, one boba tea on the desk in my room, and that's it.
And they just keep buzzing around, drawing close to me and then just leaving. It was driving me nuts. For every one I get like two other show up. I got so stressed and angry at this happening and living alone out there for the first time I almost cried because It felt like something I did wrong that caused this, because no one else seems to have this problem, or they deal with It so well. It was just a lot of stress and horrible all around.
I've since moved. And I finishwd up writing tonight just now and came back into my room to three flies in the room. I am so mad and feel so horrible I just want to sleep, and I just, turned on a light outside and waited till they all flew out. And then using the light led them to the bathroom and locked them in there. And now I'm in bed like trying not to sob because last year was a nightmare of THREE CONTINUOUS WEEKS. And I have midterms like, NEXT WEEK. I hate this. I hate everything and I'm not even close to my support system and everything sucks.

I think a fly laid some eggs in your house. Do you have something rotting and decaying in your house that would draw so many flies from outdoors and why would they stop at the windows like they want out rather than continue to the source of what attracted them?

My killing method is a little different ......... I have a pump air gun. No bb or pellets used. 2 pumps and the air alone 1 inch from them blows their wings right off or kills them from the shock. Trying to figure out where they're coming in from but I think through the engineered spaces of 1 set of windows because that's where I keep finding them.
I called off work just to seal all around my windows that have an AC and going to close all my windows. If hey appear between the windows and the net, then the window net may be loose or have a big enough crack. Also check your doors.
100% of all window cracks, nooks etc were sealed with cotton balls. All exterior exit pipes for the A/C vents, kitchen stove etc (literally EVERY exterior penetration was sealed with mesh window screen material. The attic access was sealed with caulk. In the dark, I had a bright light being held outside to look for any small cracks around door frames. We even sealed off the front door entirely to eliminate that as a possibility since no one used it ever. At the end of the day...yep, they either breed by imaculate conception or we had somewhere they were still getting into but we exhausted our measures available to us. Moved from there 3 years ago back to TX for job reasons anyway:)
So what happened ? Do you still have flies ?
Meticulously go around your home and seal it up on the outside especially around your doors. When it's dark outside have someone stand outside with a flashlight and shine it around the bottom edges and top of your doors while you look from the inside to see if there is any light leaking through. Search through all of your home to see if there is any obvious tracks they could be getting through. If you have canister lights in your attic consider replacing all of them with LED canister lights that seal to the ceiling like the ones from Costco. When they get in, try spraying them with Windex to disable them and then smash those little bastards

I just got a new windows last month and I had an incident this morning that I killed 20 to 25 possibly 30 flights in the kitchen around the windows around it was the whole first floor around dining room oh my God so yes I started killing them and now I am going to spray the outside of the windows apple cider vinegar and then I will let you know what happens thanks so much for your time
@@plazapix6510 I just got new windows too and faced with the fly infestation. Just 2 weeks after the window replacement. Did you have to call the window company to have it fixed or ow did you take care of this issue?
I had infestation of about 20 to 30 mosquitoes in my toilet wash room. I killed them but everytime I went to go to the toilet I'd see another 2 or 3 in there. It only lasted 2 days but it really got on my nerves and I've been seeing a few fruit flies lately they are quick to the little shits 😂

Same here. It started yesterday.. I seen just one and I thought that was strange... Later in the day, 10, 15, 20! I taped up the window I know they had access to, but still woke up to about 10. I'm already done with this shit.

No bro they are cluster flies and they are starting in your attic or basement because they go there when it’s cold then they cluster together in a spot to try and escape hence the name. You have to spray the outside of your house to prevent them from coming in the next season. Trust me I had it so bad one year. I came home and there was a storm of them at my back door and window. Almost 1000k. It was chaos. Me and my mom set up bug zappers in the doorway and we each had a bug assault gun and we went to war. The battle raged all day and finally around 11 pm we shot down the last couple. Fly corpses littered our laundry room floor.

It amazes me how they could wiggle between the tiniest window crack or seem.

There's nothing dead in the house, I don't stink (lol), but for the past couple of summers, they randomly infiltrate my defenses.

they didnt came through the window...they were hibernating inside your house during cold season and once summer season comes, they come out of hibernation
While in theory you might be correct in another situation however we live in Hawaii and it never gets below 70° flies don't hibernate here... They are just born and then they die

I am nearly certain that they were coming from a very very small crack in the bottom left side of the back door on the non-hinge side. The door sweep did not quite go all the way across which left a hole that you could probably stick a pencil through. The flies only came into the house when we were cooking some type of food that smelled very strong like bacon. I feel that the flies were sitting on that back door because it was in full sunlight and they seem to love that hot wall. Then when they smelled that bacon or other greasy food cooking they would fly towards the source of the smell which was very likely that crack and just walk into the house. Just like a fly is lead to the smell of a small piece of dog poop. They definitely were not coming inside just for the AC lol

So me and my fiancé rent an apartment 3rd year here and we just came home from work too about 150 flies inside are place we are very clean people and the landlords like did you bring it in them he opens the bathroom ceiling because I recorded a video and showed him that I seen the house flys coming in from the creases of the ceiling he opens it up too the house insulation above too about 500+ house flys then he opens the bathroom widow lets most fly out and says I’ll be back next week to bomb it like there still up there obviously something’s going on or the person who lives upstairs is got shot something rotting idk… its gross very stressful….
I feel your pain. It is just my wife and I and no pets, no children and no messes. Trash gets taken out at least twice a week and we just don't accumulate a lot of trash inside the house. It's just one of those things that comes with living in certain areas I believe. My parents up in northern Wisconsin have massive infestations of house flies and they are super clean freaks. Every single year it happens over and over again. I think it just is what it is depending on where a person lives
Check your fireplace. I had this same issue this weekend. I killed roughly 50 plus large horse flies. I sprayed watched and caught one coming through the glass fireplace door. Tomorrow morning I'm going to get a couple bug bombs and put them in the fireplace and seal it off them when done turn the fireplace on for 20 minutes. that heat will roast there ass out of there and try to seal the chimney from the top to stop any further flies coming in.

Lol. Nothing worked. It turns out the flies were not coming in through the window edging nooks and crannies. The hunt continues. What I did find out through a neighbor friend experiencing the same problems is that using a squirt of Windex on the fly completely immobilize has them making them even easier to kill with just a paper towel.
They are cluster flies. They hide in ur house in the winter.

@@pamtatum7683 It can be 2 different things. Cluster flies live in your attic. All they need is a slight hole or crack and they all keep coming over and over. You have to just keep smashing them. What works great is putting yellow tape upside down around the window sill and when getting around the blinds will stick to it. Then press on blinds to see their shadow and smash. Clean up when it's over. But I'm curious if you've left on a trip for any reasonable amount of time. Have you? If so I can tell you where they came from and where they are at.
@@rafaeltorre1643 so I’m replying to your old comment bcuz interestingly enough i have this same common 30-40 flies on a random day problem going on. However, just returned from vacation to a house of no flies and then suddenly within about 4 hours or so, the mayhem started up again. If I’m walking in through garage, does that mean that’s the spot to look? I also started cooking a meal and that began the mayhem as well. This has happened back to back summers in my 2 years at my house

I didn't need to see them. I just needed to do a couple day trial, remove it and see if there were any dead flies... And trash bags were on hand

Same here. I feel like I’m doing an excorsism every time I go and kill them in the kitchen 😅. “You are not welcome here!! In Jesus name!” My husband thinks I’m crazy 😜 . We came back from a 3day vacation and there were so many flies (lethargic as well just everywhere and even on the floor 😱. Day 2 still there but not as much. They’re relentless but hope they all terminate soon.
