  • My wife's first trip to Pyramid Lake! The water was warm, and the fish were deep. We averaged 12-15 fish per day. No monsters were caught this trip, but it wouldn't be fair to catch a big boy your first time out! She caught the bug for sure and can't wait to go back.

What set up were you using? Looked like a switch rod. Sink tip at the end?
    Leader length?
Never seen a bobber used like this. Interested in how it works and casts. Glad your wife enjoyed it.

In this video, I’m using an OPST Commando head for the shooting head portion of the line. Then Lazar Line for the monofilament running line.
I have since switched to the Rio Switch Chucker integrated line, but still use the OPST set up in heavy wind.
My leader consists of 2-3’ of 30 lb amnesia as a butt section. Then 15’ of 10-12 lb fluoro to a micro swivel. I tie two lengths of 8 lb fluoro off the bottom of the micro swivel which I attach my flies to.

@@SoggySleeves thank for the reply. I use the same head for river stuff. Love to chat more.

@@SoggySleeves do you connect the shooting head directly to the switch line?

@@mainlyfishing4599 yes! I have about 300 yds of backing on the reel, followed by 150-ish feet of Lazar Line shooting line, to a a 30’ T14 level sinking line. Follow the steps in the video linked to make an very smooth loop-to-loop system using this method.

@@SoggySleeves I tried copying your leader setup today, huge fail lol
I’m using a 8wt chukar line to a 30lb amnesia loop to loop section( 5 inches)
I used a 12ft (3x)tapered leader cut off where it tapers to it.
swivel at the end of it with 2 15 pound leader sections. One is 6 inches used for a midge the other connects to another swivel.
Tied to that anther 6 inch section for another midge and tied to the same swivel a 3 foot section for a balanced leech at the end.
I was getting a lot of tangles,I’d appreciate your way of setting it up 😎

The only mention of regulation (straight from the tribe’s website) regarding lures states..
“barb less hooks only. We are only concerned with what hooks you have in the water, not your tackle box. You can have 2 singles, 2 doubles, or 2 treble hooks PER LURE.”
I even asked a tribal sheriff last year when he was checking licenses. He reassured me that three-fly rigs were okay, as long as each fly has no more than two hooks and are barbless.
