I’ve got to say that Sam Perez is an excellent reporter and I thoroughly enjoyed her coverage of the Greyhound bus terminal in Knoxville and also her riding on the bus. I have never ridden on a Greyhound bus and I live in Florida..I just happened to click on this on UA-cam,but her interesting coverage and personality was so captivating that I just couldn’t stop watching. She is one excellent reporter! 😄👍
I really appreciate your coverage of this problem. It’s a very faster video of problems of poor people. Provides how many people think about U.S. People that don’t have money for other transportation !!!!!
I remember when Knoxville had 2 bus lines and 2 bus stations (Trailways and Greyhound). The Trailways station was across the street from the courthouse on Main Street and the Greyhound station was on Magnolia Ave at Central. They were both very busy because flying was rather expensive then. I know things change, but there really should be some type of bus station for Greyhound.
Well don't expect Flixbus who now own Greyhound to pay property taxes, utility bills, janitors, and ticket agents. This European (German) bus company expects cities and towns to do so.. They don't in Europe and they won't in America or Canada...
A European (German) bus company Flixbus bought Greyhound a few years ago and has been SELLING all of the former Greyhound bus stations throughout America. Basically the only exception is where they rent space from a city bus depot like the New York Port Authority bus terminal or with Amtrak and other city stations/depots. Flixbus does not own terminals, stations, or depots in Europe, and have NO intentions of paying property taxes for such in America and Canada. If the cities and towns don't want to operate and maintain bus stations, well they will use city's streets or available parking lots, not necessarily downtown. It is what it is... They don't even want to hire a janitor to clean and service port-a-potties... They don't want to hire ticket sales agents either, preferring everyone buys their bus tickets online...
Is Flix North America financed by Private Equity or were the bus terminals bought by private equity? What are these bus terminals now? Parking lots? Or who is buying the bus terminals and what are they doing with it? Sounds like something private equity or land sharks would be buying up and flipping for profit... I'm curious who's behind it all.
Over three dozen Greyhound bus stations that were sold to Twenty Lake Holdings, an arm of the investment firm Alden Global Capital, not sure why but more than likely money. Most Greyhound bus stations sit on prime real estate so they have been sold, and will be redeveloped. Also in a lot of cites they are moving the service in more remote areas they say because they type of people the bus brings in. In addition, a German company, Flix, bought Greyhound in 2021 but did not acquire the privately owned stations. However, I am sure a local ordinance could fix the issue real quickly. It want be done until something happens because in America were reactive not proactive.
If a city passes a local ordinance Flixbus (Greyhound) will eliminate bus service to that city or town... If the cities and towns want bus stations, it is up to them to provide this service as Flixbus (Greyhound) won't... They don't in Europe and they won't in America or Canada... It is what it is... If you want stations demand your city or town to provide one...

I spent literally weeks of hours riding Grayhound in the 90s. I was a sometimes runaway kid and saw at least 30 states through a scratched up plexiglass bus window. I would love to ride along with you sometime. I've long harbored a secret desire to try a cross country reunion with myself tour by bus.
Excellent reporting! Aviation travel vlogger Noel Philips went from New York to Los Angeles on a Greyhound bus - it took 5 days. Look up his channel because his experience was very similar to what these people had.
I can personally attest to the identical situation throughout Oregon since the 1980’s! Greyhound has been subjecting their customers to subpar treatment for decades 😤 Dirty, smelly, broke down buses late for every run. It’s all many people can access to get to where they’re going.
Because if you are low-income or even just "fiscally conservative," your money and time do not matter. You are not worthy of safety, shelter, water, food, or a bathroom.
Thats terrible. Several times, i rode Greyhound from Memphis to Knoxville when it at least had a station, not a bus stop. Greyhound is acting worse than the MATA city bus in Memphis
This is a disgrace. I remember when Greyhound was a symbol of America's growth and we led the world in public transportation . There used to be two major bus companies. One was called Trailways, but Greyhound bought Trailways to shut down their operations. This move eliminated Greyhound's competition.

Germany has a phenomenal transit system. Because their government supports it. But Americans don't like to pay taxes.

@ronclark9724 Thank you for this information. This explains a lot. This is bad business once you know the truth.

Flixbus is quite predatory and subpar in Europe too. Not that bad, but still quite bad.

Anyone get robbed or shot?
I hope not!
It doesn't look safe at all.
People probably do. That’s why they do this to them or some travelers probably do it.
