Think of the time one would have to spend to build a locomotive like that. A lot of skil went into building it. It is truly a work of art!

I can only imagine what kind of extraordinary talent and craftsmanship must have gone into building one of these operating steam locomotives, an Articulated Consolidation (Baldwin's AC-11 or AC-12). Parts probably had to be made individually, one at a time. So far as I know, there's no catalogue or Web site where one just orders a 1 1/2 scale working Cab Forward! My admiration and congratulations to the genius or geniuses involved in this remarkable accomplishment.

That's a really cool live steam miniature model of a cab forward locomotive but how do you control something like that? With the cab on the front how do you pull the throttle check the water keep the fire going and blow the whistle

In general, it is considered 3.5".
However I have seen people riding 2.5", on perfectly leveled tracks with fine tune engine.
If you like live steam, I have a lot of videos on my youtube channel.

they sure like to blow the whistle on that thing.
speaking of which, where do people get the whistles that they put on these models?

Wow, I'm truly impressed! I live near to Hunter Park in Riverside, which has a live steam club affiliated with it, and a couple of years ago, some one built a model of a Big Boy and was running it there...did I have a camera or video with me? NO! Big Dummy! I carry one now for just such of an emergency.

If a 1/2 scale 4-8-8-4 Cab forward ever exists. it will be Industrial switch engine or Theme park locomotives. yet. it is the closest thing to the original Cab forwards. (and that includes its whistle and valvegear voices, all are run under steam and no dub overs)

I dislike belaboring the point but scale, gauge, and ratio of model to full size are NOT interchangeable terms. Scale is the length representing a given full size measurement--inches per foot or mm per meter. Gauge is the distance between railheads on the inside--
7.0625" would be the actual gauge if modelled in 1.5" scale. For ease of working 7.25" and 7.5" is used instead. 7.5" would be 3 scale feet in 2.5" scale. The RATIO of 1.5"/ foot is 1 to 8 of the full size. Hope this helps.
