- Welcome friends to My Feathered Nest!
This vlog is about the damage that we incurred from Hurricane Helene. I am so thankful that we are all safe and there is no damage to our home. I ask you to pray for those affected by this storm, especially Western North Carolina. My heart is devastated for the people there that lost everything.
Have a blessed day and thanks for watching!
xoxo, Kim ❤️
Zoomies. . I lived thru several Hurricanes living in New Orleans, so know the after effects. It’s sad, but to not loose your house or loved ones, is a blessings

Thank God you and your family are safe! Prayers in the coming months for all of you and the states that were effected by this storm.
So glad you and your home are safe. This storm was so devastating. God bless❤️
@@athomeinsmithfieldwithsusan it truly was very devastating, my heart is absolutely broken for so many people and so many areas. ❤️
So glad you and your family are safe and well, and that your damage is relatively minor, considering. We’re in Florida, and our neighborhood came through the storm with hardly any damage at all. We only had some wind, hardly any rain, a few branches down here and there, and that was that. Other neighborhoods in the city flooded, and some are still without power, so we feel extremely fortunate. As long as people are safe - that’s what’s important. “Stuff” can be replaced. People can’t. Hug your loved ones, and take care.
@@delmorrow896 exactly! We are still without power, four days now, but when I hear about the devastation in North Carolina,it humbles me! Please keep praying for those that are affected.❤️
I'm grateful you are all okay, even the chickens. Thank God it wasn't worse for y'all. Prayers this can all get cleaned up. Love & Hugs.
OMGoodness, couldn’t imagine. Happy you all are safe and your chickens. 🙏🏻🐥
Kim, I am thankful that you and your home is safe. Be careful and get your mom’s dishes to safety. Praying for all the people affected by this devastating hurricane. Please stay safe during the clean up. 🙏
I’m so sorry Kim! Sending prayers your way and for everyone else struggling through this difficult time 🙏🙏🙏🙏
There's so much devastation from this storm. So many states and so much damage. People are trapped in Black Mountain. They don't have a way in or out. Please pray for those people.. So many roads, bridges and towns washed away. We have people missing in Erwin TN. The hospital was completely underwater and destroyed. I'm so sorry for the damage that happened on your property. Damage is expensive to repair and I know that. Part of I-40 interstate has been washed away. I'm praying for everyone 🙏❤
@@darlenemullins I know, I am so heartbroken. After the storm ended, we were just on our property for like two days and really didn’t understand the full devastation of it. As reports came in, and I began to look on the Internet, my heart was just completely broken. I absolutely adore Western North Carolina, and it hurts me to know that some of my favorite little small mountain towns are completely gone. My prayers are definitely with all of the areas and people that are affected. My loss is absolutely a drop in the bucket compared to what most lost.
Hey Kim! Thankful that you and your family are safe! Prayers for some normalcy to return to all of your lives. ❤
I’m so sorry Kim! Thank the Lord that your house is fine! You all are in my prayers 🙏🏻❤️
Oh Kim, I am so sorry. Thank God you and the family are ok. Ugh, I feel so bad for you guys. Sending prayers, hugs, and love. 🙏 🤗 ❤
@@TraditionsByTheSeasons thanks Liz! To be honest though, we feel very blessed and fortunate. The amount of devastation in the mountains of Western North Carolina is so heartbreaking. Please keep that area in your prayers.❤️
Glad u all are safe! My son is in central SC. They had trees down but overall safe. Praise the Lord!
@@marlenezagar4487 I am only like 10 minutes away from Central! I am so glad that your son is safe!
Prayers for you Kim and your family 🙏
So thankful you and your family are safe. ❤ 🙏
Good afternoon Kim! I’m so thankful your family, chickens and home are safe. God was definitely watching over all of you. Prayers for y’all. 🙏🏻💕
It really was A devastating hurricane for so many! I live in Florida just outside Tampa.. several hours south from the Bend where it hit land. Since we were on the back side we basically just had some rough winds & heavy rains, and lost power from about 8:30 that night til just after 9:00 the next morning. We just moved here several months back from SE Tennessee, about 2hrs or less from Asheville. We were born & raised in south NC, all our family is still there & we had to travel thru Asheville to go visit.. those roads no longer exist from what i can tell! It blows my mind how badly that city was just demolished, that far away & high up! But the Levy's & dams have never had that much water come thru & they all busted! We have friends that we cattle farmers & they lost everything.. their home, land, vehicles & had to watch all their animals float away & couldn't do anything for them! It just breaks my heart💔😭 And there's so many that are unaccounted for, that still haven't been rescued, or found, so many lives lost, and so much devastation thru 5 or 6 states! I get it.. anytime you lose something that's your own, its not easy, regardless of what it is. And sure it can be built back, but again like you said, that's money! Everyone don't have the money to replace things so of choose they're going to be upset. Yes, there's many more with far worse problems, but this is the one you personally have to deal with. So yeah, you're not being whiney just explaining what you personally are going thru. I'm so sorry you guys lost what you did, i hate to see anyone lose anything! We live with our son & his wife right now & that stay in one of the newer neighborhoods so they don't have trees. I hate not having trees! I've always lived in the country, both in NC & in TN.. we had lots of trees & yard & space! That's what we're looking for here, at least a yard! So glad your pieces that were your moms are Ok! We need to also remember all the linemen that are being dispatched to all the hard hit areas. My husbands baby brother, he's just 26, is a lineman & over a crew. They left Saturday evening headed to Asheville. He has no idea when he'll get to go him, he's from our hometown in NC. And his wife is pregnant with their first baby. So remember him & all the others as well. My husband has lost 2 brothers in the last 5mths, he can't take losing another one! Those guys work long, hard hours & in all that water, its scary! Glad you guys are Ok & hope you have a blessed week!
@@tammyleviner3070 it is unreal, like you said, that this hurricane impacted our mountains the way they did. I heard that when the hurricane hit Florida it didn’t really bring much rain, but yet the Carolinas were dumped on. I am so broken hearted for everyone that has suffered loss. ❤️
My sis in Indiana is on her own and cleaning up all the mess there too. I am glad you all are safe. I hope your insurance will cover the cleanup and damage.
THis was so important to show this devastating aftermath! Praying for all affected! You have beautiful property!
Glad you did not experience the extreme devastation that some have had to contend with. ❤
@@charmc4152 I am extremely thankful and feel very fortunate. My heart is broken for other people and areas that were affected way worse than our area. Keeping them all in my prayers.❤️
@@MyFeatheredNest My heart has been very heavy thinking about all that people have been through and the limited ability to help. It seems like smaller organizations, preppers, average individuals, and UA-camrs were among the first to mobilize in their areas to do whatever they could to help. I'm really glad you didn't experience any worse than you did, and I was thinking it must have been something of a relief to have the whole family at your house and knowing everyone was safe. Peace of mind is priceless. 💗
@@charmc4152 yes, exactly❤️
I’m so sorry Kim. No one expected the damage that has occurred. Glad you are well.
Praying and thankful for what you still have.
So grateful your family is safe. Thank you for letting us know how you are doing. Praying for everyone that has lost their home's and for all the service people and volunteers. 🙏🤗🙏💓💕💞

So sorry Kim, prayers for strength during this trying time !!!
Thankful you are all safe!! God bless all!!
Thankfully all you guys are ok.
Bet youre so greatful that tree up front of house was removed prior. Prayers for your and the neighboring states with this life altering devastation.
I'm so glad you and your family are ok.
Praying for everyone
Glad you all are safe. You probably have all ready thought of this, but make sure there’s no areas where critters can get to your chickens. A lot of areas are flooded and food supply for a lot of animals like foxes etc have definitely been affected. The woods around us have gotten flooded and we’re seeing a lot of wildlife out and around that normally aren’t. Also being where your at be on the look out for copperheads
@@carriesturgis6768 yes, good point for sure! Fortunately, we don’t have copperheads right around us, but we definitely have other predators that would probably love to have some chicken for lunch!
Prayers for your family! ❤❤❤
It’s always so heartbreaking to have tree and property loss. Glad the animals are ok. How scary.❤️🙏🏻
@@MakingItMyOwn hey Brandy, where are you located? I thought for some odd reason that you were in Tennessee, if so, how did you guys fare? By the way, just subscribed to your other channel!❤️
Prayers for your family.❤
Living in the hurricane prone state of Louisiana, the most important thing a homeowner/landowner can do to prep is remove all trees on the land that are no longer viable. These will be the first to go in a bad storm . Check all pines for pine beetles( ez to do bcuz when infested, these trees' bark will easily peel off) Pines also have taproots and fall easily in a heavy wind. Also check which pines have reached full maturity bcuz these will likely fall in a storm. Remove and transplant any Crepe Myrtles near your home as those also fall easily. What is the best tree to have in a storm prone area ? Either Live Oaks or Palms, or even a Banyan tree. ( But I don't know if a Banyan will survive the winters there)
kimSo sorry for you all Will definitely keep you in my prayers
I sorry . My prayers. I live in Florida near Fort Myers but thank God I am ok. ❤
Hi Kim, new to your channel. If you, or someone you know, frequents Gateway Park in TR, please be _very_ careful in the woods at the bike trail behind the library. In fact, I’d recommend staying well away from that area. 100+’ poplars with at least 3’ girths are either down completely or are leaning. Four fell at the tree line, three of them on my chain link fence. Loads of widowmakers fell and some are still dangling. I’ve been putting out an APB where I could but, wouldn’t you know it, I’ve heard kids in there playing since Sunday. A bundle of trees, a bit larger than those, fell in Jan of ‘19. It took six months for them to get cut and dealt with. The City wound up doing after Greenville Parks and Rec, who own the park, kept ignoring it. One of the trees crushed my neighbors fence and onto his truck. So, those trees in the park may be there a while. Hoping not, but…. 🤷🏻♀️
I’m so sorry about your coop and the trees, but thankfully you are all safe. I live in northeast KY, and we got high winds , flooding downed trees power outages, some tornadoes. The storm stalled over KY and caused a lot of damage. It was the worst one we’ve had in a very long time. But thankfully my family are all ok.
@@angelanapier4248 so thankful that you and your family are OK! I never thought that this storm would be this bad, I hate hearing all of the stories of devastation that I keep hearing.

Wow how talented you are!! You look fantastic, long time no see. Got to talk to Eric today told him some big news to share with you from down here in the big city of Walterboro.

So sorry, my prayers are with yall

Be careful around your big trees going forward. There may be stress fractures on some limbs that aren't visible and where they didn't break, but you may have limbs in the weeks and months ahead that break and fall to the ground for no apparent reason as they end up moved around in the wind and further weakened.
@@charmc4152 this is a very good point! And, another thing is most of our big trees are pecan trees, and limbs tend to break from them for no apparent reason anyway! We obviously have a lot of tree work to do!
@@MyFeatheredNest I was so sorry to hear it was your pecan trees that were damaged. I hope you still have a few that made it through the storm all right. I don't know how long it takes for a pecan tree to mature, but I'm guessing a long time! I'd hate to lose any of them. Sorry about your chicken coop too. What are you using in the mean time to keep your chickens safe?
❤BIG HUGS❤
