  • Well, we have ran into a few hiccups with some wiring issues and getting the swath of canola out the hole. This is just "one of those days" type of day.

You could cap the cylinder oil port (with metal cap) if it's the cylinder, the wheel will still go down.
If it stay up, it's the circuit. Could be the splitter valve or the stack valve.

Cut a piece of C channel iron the length of the cylinder stroke and put it over the rod so it acts like a safety latch and it will hold that side at the exact height you want it to stay at

In Northern Alberta we have the same issue with canola not wanting to fit in the hole. Our swather also decided to throw a rod so we were on a swather hunt To. Which posed some great difficulty to find one we wanted but we did find a m105 macdon with 30ft head which is to big for us but we ended up only using 23ft of it and hanging 7ft out and swaths dried up beautifully. One of our combines is a 9500 so it still handled it great. Made it easier to ram in the hole and easier on combines. Maybe worth a try to only take a smaller bite.

We straight cut all our canola. Usually spray a couple thousand of it. While we chew on that it gives the rest time to come in naturally. Did some side by side tests straight cut always had bigger yield and seed size.

I hope you managed to fix your swather....
I would wager that your accumulator on that side was low of nitrogen.
We have D450's as well and don't really put that many hours on them anymore. We have kept them because mechanically wise they are pretty much indestructible.
We have done some modifications on the heads to make them more canola ready..
We took the swather decks out and made them shorter on the hole side.
You can do this by removing a section close to the roller and then welding it back together and then shortening the canvas accordingly.
(the canvasses have to be driven on the outside to do this)
We added an extra spring to the tensioner and now our canvasses never slip.
We put open top guards on and now down canola in sprayer tracks doesn't bother us anymore.
We added a pea auger that is lower on the outside edges and higher in the middle.
The swather works fantastic now except for the fact that it doesn't flex well through waterways. (that cannot be modified )

    Mike,
Maude Potvin is right; cap the ports to see if it's the cylinder or the circuit. If it's the circuit, you could cap the ports on the cylinder at the correct height and just run it locked.
If it's a new head, maybe you need to bleed the air out of the hydraulic system to that cylinder.

Straight cutting is no longer merely an option for harvesting canola - it’s become “the” harvest option. In many cases, the one-pass alternative has replaced swathing completely.
“The advent of pod shatter-tolerant genetics has made straight cutting canola much more attractive than it is to swath. By and large, farmers are defaulting to straight cutting. In fact, it’s likely over 70 percent of producers in Manitoba do it already, and that number is expected to rise.”

I just bought a JD W235 with a disc mower 500r on it. The right hand cylinder or accumulator seems to have an issue because I have to keep turning up the pressure on it every 15 minutes or so...It does seem like they've made it easier to adjust the float on the W235 compared to the d450. The cab is really quiet in the W235 as well. It seems like a well built machine. Much better than the MacDon M205 I have.

  • @robward7662

There must be a nitrogen accumulator in that float system that is playing up , or a valve that is bypass the the float and dumping, haven’t worked on those ones but they are not normally difficult to sort.

On our case swather it does the same there are pressure numbers for float on each side go on you screen find header float the adjust it for each side make them even like one mite be 950 the other will be 1200 that will cause that. Our case does that I like it for cutting hay on pivot tracks I can raise on side up to ride over them while the other side stays down if it was the old way I cut it high on both sides.
