    Hello from TX! Your dad did a great job backing the wagon. When backing hay wagons like that, I always found it easier to hook them to the front of the tractor & push them. I could steer them much easier. I know your dad couldn't do that in your situation, but it was easier for me. I enjoy your videos, bring back a lot of memories for this old man when I was young, back in IN. God bless & stay safe!😊

    Thank the Lord, we finished our corn before the hurricane.
    We got a total of 7.8 inches of rain and some 30 mph winds, but we are so Blessed.
    The folks just to the south of us in Valdosta, Douglas, Jesup, Waycross, and Blackshear really suffered some considerable damage to their timber and their pecan crops.
    A month later and the peanut and cotton crops would have been devastated

    It may have been a optical illusion due to camera angle but I think your dad missed the rear u-joint may want to give it another look. But he sure can back a stear axled trailer. They're a pain I've backed enough haywagons to know.
    Great video!

    When I was a kid my Uncle Grew Milo on his farm. LONG SLEEVE SHIRT, No matter how hot it get. You will thank us Later, I promise. It's not ready but it's close. I can tell you a visual tip, the redder the better. Try to keep the red heads in there and avoid a lot of the plant if you can, that will be difficult manually, but your auto height on your header might help with dips in the field. You shouldn't have an issue keeping the crop in minus the header loss, and with a draper it shouldn't be terrible. Like others have said, start with your recommended machine settings, and make adjustments from there.
    Just some tips I learned from my uncle back in the days of old.

    Milo don't look bad should 50 + bushel to the acre just guessing from what you showed we use rigid header with milo guards installed, regular cutter bar without the guards you will loose several heads out the front. If the heads are right (dry) it's easy cutting but the dust is really itchy.

    Milo is a very versatile crop especially when rainfall is lower. Good years here in NC 85+ bushel crop is pretty good. The surprising benefit of milo is what the stalks and root mass after to the ground and your rotation. When we had turkey manure available we would cut and bale the stalks for the cows. Crimp the mower tight as you can to get them juicy sweet stalks drying down. Cows love it because its sweet. Good luck

    The sorghum, looks like a real good crop to me, Hello ,Granny how are you

  • @idmarintzer
    @idmarintzer 11 місяців тому +2

    With your planting population the sorghum should do good. Considering your corn yields you should be able to grow 150+ sorghum, but just like any crop it’s a learning process. One thing to remember is that sorghum takes more N per bushel to grow than corn, there is a misconception out there that it lakes less fertility. With your Draper header head loss shouldn’t be a problem, start at the recommended setting and your machine will do fine. Only take the heads in if possible

    I grew up in Sorghum country...the great plains of Texas . When we started growing irrigated corn it made 160bu in 1960's the sorghum made 160. Yours could make 160. The combine settings are on the card in arm rest. You will close the pre chaffer and wheat concave. increase the rotor speed. You need milo guards to keep the heads as they are cut off.

    Does it have a 2 piece drive shaft with a steady bearing? I also watched the video and at 6:48 you can see slop in the rear universal. Sometimes 1 cap on the universal doesnt recieve grease and will cause vibration as its failing. Also that rear-end has way to much lash. Some play is normal, but not that much. Pull drain plug and make sure no filings.

    If it only does it during acceleration it might be the pinion bearing or pinion itself or a tooth broken maybe, it will only be apparent when pressure is applied between teeth during acceleration. Change your rear gear oil and see if there is more than just small amount of metal in the gear oil might show that’s your problem. Good luck finding the problem.
