I understand that this is probably a one-off thing to pay tribute to the original (which I still remember watching when I was younger), but it would be kind of cool to make a sequel showcasing all of the new oddities that people have found over the years like crush and gulp skip, swimming in air, getting into the first idol springs challenge room without swimming underwater, getting into the room that the hockey players come out of in colossus, etc. It would be a neat way to pay further tribute.
if you haven't already, you should watch CrystalFissure's Spyro 3 Double Jump Guide series. It's interesting to see what could have been possible if it was included in 3 as well :)
That video is where I first learned the word 'oddity' as a kid. I still think of the video whenever I hear that word to this day. And I remember not being able to double jump at all despite attempting for ages, then one day it just clicked like riding a bike.
Uli's oddities videos were HUGE for me when I first got into emulators. I spent SO MANY hours in Spyro 2 doing all these jumps and searching for new spots. I got so good at the Mystic Marsh jump (the one Uli says is really tough) that I could get it first try every time - not necessary though because there's an easier way to get on the Mystic Marsh cliffs that Uli didn't mention in his video (there's a building you can jump onto). You may have mentioned it in this vid but I haven't finished watching it yet lol. Didn't even realize who made this vid until halfway through typing this. Your vids were also huge for me in my many hours messing with Spyro 2 glitches!
Watching your videos was literally how I learnt about the double jump glitch, so now I've full circle by watching you recreate the video that really inspired you. Great work, man.
Omg I’ve love Spyro all my life but I’ve never know about uli’s oddities in Spyro and I didn’t know about these little glitches and hacks until I saw ur channel! Wow !
Incredible, it's so sureeal remembering that video from back in the day and randomly becoming acquainted with Ulillillia over a decade later on fb and chatting now and then.
Man, I remember learning SO much from those original videos, the double jump being chief among them. Huge props to you for making this tribute video. Just another reminder that I need to go back and replay the original Spyro 2 again. That music and just the overall vibes of that game in general are so special to me.
I hope Ulillillia's doing well today, I watched his oddity video numerous times as a kid and even formed my own speedrun route before I actually got into speedrunning it. 😭😭 Thanks for the trip down memory lane CF, you're also a part of my nostalgic childhood.😢💜💜
The indescribable sense of nostalgia this video make me feel is unreal. I first watched the oddities video in 2010, it was the first time I got internet access ever. So many memories brought back, the good old feeling of the early days of UA-cam.
Correct. There are a few jumps in this that could have been done better or more optimally, but it was intended to be a mostly 1-1 recreation. If I made a 2024 edition there’s be many cool things added and changed.
You replayed the first Sly Cooper game on PS4 or PS5 yet at all? It was an absolute blast to play when it first became available to purchase separately from PlayStation Plus. So much fun replaying it again! I really hope 2 and 3 come to modern consoles someday as well too.
I really do wonder how many of these oddities carried over into the reignited trilogy? I’ve actually started playing ripto’s rage on ps4 not too long ago. I beat the entirety of the first game. Unfortunately you still have to pay Moneybags 100 gems in order to cross the bridge in Glimmer. But you don’t need the climb ability in order to light all the gems inside. You just have to use the glide power up outside and go inside and land on the green gem accurately. Then glide across and hover at the right time where the climbing ladder is, and you’ve done it. You’ll basically beat Glimmer on your first playthrough too without revisiting the level later on!
@@CrystalFissure yeah unfortunately. The wall with the portal to aquaria towers is completely blocked off and you can’t even jump on it too. It’s way too high up now unfortunately. But that’s how it was originally intended to begin with.
I’m slowly replaying through crash of the titans again now. I’m on the last level too. Certainly gameplay aspects are definitely annoying but I do enjoy the game overall.
Funny, I did all these exact tricks the last time I played Spyro 2. I had just finally looked up and learned the double jump, so it was like a new experience! Sadly double jump isn't in Spyro 3, so that was a letdown to say the least hehe.
The golden age of spyro videos on UA-cam. 2006-2010
Was a great era! Although I also do love the 2010s, as that's where so many more incredible glitches and skips were found.
It's been nearly what, 15 years since I saw that vid and the way he says "first oddity" is ingrained in my head
I know right. Watching it back, the cadence of everything all was there in the back of my mind still.

*STILL A BETTER LOVE STORY THAN MYSTIC MARSH*
I've never seen the video being referenced 😅 but it seems like everyone else has
Yeah it’s a massive part of early UA-cam. Sad that the original upload is gone forever.
That double jump breaks Spyro 2 so much.
It's funny how this quirk is in 2 but not 3.

That was literally me too. I knew the button combo but I didn’t realize you couldn’t move Spyro forward or it wouldn’t go through.
Yeah same, I struggled for a while and now it’s completely second nature.
@@CrystalFissure same for me too! It’s very satisfying being able to finish Glimmer 100% first time 😆
Once you learn the double jump, the entire game breaks. On the plus side, you can pull off fun speedrun tricks.
Indeed! I’ve been having fun with it for over a decade now.

Thanks very much for all the feedback! Much appreciated. And yeah he sometimes made things more complex than he needed to.
So this dude basically discovered the double jump?? Cool!! I never saw the original I don’t think but this was neat to see. Nice tribute!
I think he was the first guy to do a video about the double jump, yep!
@@CrystalFissure awesome!

Oh my goodness, this trilogy of videos was one of my favorites! I remember watching it when I was like 9 or 10!
The double jump is such a blessing in this game. Really just wish it was carried over into Spyro 3.
Yeah same. At least we have the code that can put it into 3, though it causes the anti-piracy code to trip.
Remaking old UA-cam videos is a great thing! Great job!
Some of these I really like like in Hurricos-getting passed the gate without using the turtles.
Yay more Spyro videos
Such a good homage for a video all of us Spyro nerds watched so long ago ❤
Was recreating the video word for word as hard as the jump in Mystic Marsh?
That was painful. I had to remember and write down many of the lines, it took like 10 hours to record and edit.

This is really cool. There will certainly be heaps of Oddities in Spyro the Dragon and Year of the Dragon to look and hunt for. 😮
For sure. I wish he did a video about those, but without the double jump it was a lot harder to find glitches and “oddities” back in 2007.
@@CrystalFissure Yeah true. A Headbashpocalypse ‘oddities’ vid would be very interesting to create and find some new ones 🤔
I've definitely seen that video years ago, probably in 2009 or so if I'm remembering correctly. I didn't realize it was such a beloved video.
It’s such a shame the original video is gone because there were thousands of comments and hundreds of thousands of views.
15:34 Winter Tundra here now sounds like my Whirlwind Haven track which also uses that sample.
My god I remember this, where learning glitches and skip tricks all started for me
@@zedsterCH yep, I had my mind blown by the original videos!
Awesome video! So many plot inconsistencies in this game lol
Woah... that unlocked a memory lol
Neat idea to "recreate" them like this too!
Thanks Rob!
0:52 You don't even need the "double jump" to make this jump. While charging, just hold the jump button to clear it.

@@CrystalFissure A reply? Awsome! Great thing to wake up to! You're welcome btw

Spyro 2, my favourite game of all time
Basically a really good speed running tutorial :p yes this actually aged pretty well too

Classic. Some of the first youtube videos I remember watching.

You oughta tell the people how do implement the oddities.
In Aquaria towers what does the seahorse say if you speak to him without the water? Does he say anything at all?
That’s what I wanna know!! I imagine it’s like the Professor in Zephyr though where he just straight up won’t speak.
He says the standard dialogue, but staying in the grounded position. And yea, no talisman.
Unfortunately you don’t get the talisman so it’s kinda like a mini soft lock.

Hills.
How many required payments to Moneybags are there in Spyro 3?
The only one you can’t skip is the Agent 9’s Lab portal.
In Riptos rage Sunny beach is my least favorite level and Zephyr is the hardest level
