For me the part that hits me, is seeing tifa crying her eyes out beside Red, and a somehow more tragic version of Aerith’s music plays 1:59:19 to be precise.
I agree! All the reinterpretation of the original theme for Aerith used here here in Rebirth I absolutely loved. This particular version made me cry for her all over again too. Seeing her look as her companions leave fly off while she stays below - thats heartbreaking. Cannot wait to see how her character will now be utilized for FF7-3.
In the Og they couldn't stand each other(tifa and aerith) here they formed a much like sisterly bond and Tifa when she saw aerith died at the sanctuary she was like....wtf
That “dream” date Aerith knew her time was limited and just wanted to spend some the last moments happy with Cloud before giving him the white materia. The instrumental version of no promises to keep playing during that portion is called “One last date - my dream.”
Cloud is going completely crazy, she is already dead but because of him and his reality of life he does not accept it. Now the black matter has just gotten even worse. If he is already crazy and mentally ill. With that now it's going to get even worse for using that dark matter. In the third part we can use Vincent with his transformations and Cid with his spear and his ship. -.

I'm loving watching everyone's playthroughs and reactions. I think the devs have perfectly captured her death here. Cloud is repressing everything and doesn't believe what just happened. Part of him is devastated, the other in denial. As I watch different people play, I see the same range of emotions. Half the players are blank faced, not even sure what happened, trying to analyze and reason but they can't because so much is happening at once; there's a fight to win. The other half of the players lose it. They can't fight because they can't see through the tears. They think they "did something wrong," because we are given the visual of "saving her." We are all feeling Cloud's fractured halves right now.
I don't know - we're not supposed to know what happened. If it just turns out he is 'repressing' everything and it's all in his head, that's actually terrible writing. The magic of the OG is that he's not actually that sick and doesn't make everything up. He was actually very close to the truth all along (he was in Nib with the group). If he has created a completely fictitious account that includes Aerith surviving, that's lazy writing and a complete misrepresentation of mental instability.

Sadly, this was always Aerith's fate. A tragic self-sacrifice to give hope to the planet. I always felt Aerith deserved respect for this. She knew full well that once she set foot in the Forgotten Capitol, she wasn't leaving alive. And she STILL went. That's bravery.

This felt like an actual relative or friend died in real life. I knew I wouldn't be ready to lose Aerith again.. It's one thing reading texts while playing with block characters but they humanized her so much. To the point that I knew it would destroy me or anyone who play these games.. Game of the Year
They handled her death perfectly. The fans who say that this had no emotional impact need to watch this reaction. This game alone had more emotional moments than the entire OG. Also this wasn’t her entire death scene, it was kind of a teaser, the real thing is being saved for part 3 and will hit like a ton of bricks. Awesome playthrough. Part 3 will be incredible.
They did okay. But far from perfect. Seeing her talk to cloud and healing the party and fighting with cloud at the end took alot of the impact away from her death. If they were trying to mystify if she was dead or not, they failed that part imo. Aerith should of just been dead. They rey skywalkered her. Anyways, they should have done the fight and cloud and Zack reunite for the final fight with sephiroth, then they get seperated with Zack reuniting with aerith. Lastly they should of shown cloud carring aerith to the water and letting her go. People say that's in part 3 but it's going to be meaningless by then for most people cause that's in 2-3 years.
@@MrLittlehicks I think they did as well as could be expected, and I don't particularly think they were trying to mystify it, what with showing how torn up the rest of the party is for literally one of the most famous video game moments of all time. Even in the original, she's not actually "dead" in the traditional sense - this is a fantasy world, she's still performing Holy from within the lifestream, and that's made evident at both the end of the original game and in side media like Advent Child. Like yes, she's "dead", but her spirit/soul/whatever you want to call it is still around. It also shows Cloud's tenuous grip on reality in an interesting way, including the little glance Barrett and Tifa share at the end. Fundamentally, I'm thinking they've still got a good shot at sticking the landing.
@AnimaLepton for me if was when she was praying, she's unsure,not sure if she's doing it right, her mother never taught her. This was all perfect. Then she dies. Talks to cloud, heals the party multiple times and fights. It was a little too on the nose like Rey from star wars. Aerith went from not knowing to being op.
No they didn't. I was sitting there wondering what even happened. I was too busy asking myself that to be sad. I don't have a problem with her showing up again and only Cloud being able to see her spirit. But the part of her death was messed up.
With Aerith now a part of the Lifestream and Tifa having likely gained some abilities herself having been inside a weapon, information between these two might be conveyed. They might be on to Sephiroth's main means and method of controlling Cloud by making him repress Sephiroth's murder of his mother. In Cloud's mind, he believes Nibelheim and her death to be all his fault. He thinks he delivered his family to Sephiroth. Aerith letting Cloud think she is alive a little longer would be a means of protecting him from coming to this same conclusion about her, long enough until Tifa helps him face these nightmares and cope with them. He hasn't been ready yet, as was apparent in the Tifa version of the garden scene in Remake when touching her brought on physical pain. She would only and always remind him of home. The worst part of extreme trauma is that it can take the things in life that are most enjoyable to you and make then agonizing.
Cloud's been seeing dead people walking around and talking to him ever since he encountered Sephiroth (who he personally killed), when he first saw him again WAY back in Chapter 2 of Remake. Aerith's also been able to project herself to Cloud when she's not physically there before in Chapter 13 when she's captured at the Shinra HQ and he's at her house. This is likely because Cloud's Mako-poisoned "real" self is still mixed up with other hopes & dreams of different people in his head, and as a Cetra Aerith is connected to those parts of the Planet and can eventually hear and communicate to them just like she did when Elmyra's husband attempted to visit her before he Returned to the Planet when he was KIA in the Wutai War. That's why she's trying to find the "real" Cloud in the other world when he's passed out and dreaming. In the real world, Cloud's mind just keeps constantly overwriting what actually happened with a version of events that makes sense to him - complete with active visual hallucinations. It's the same thing that happens in Chapter 9 at the Gongaga Reactor when Sephiroth nudges that to make Cloud doubt Tifa is real, which she brings up again just before the Forgotten Capital. What we see Cloud experiencing there and at the end of the game is just like how we see him misremembering Zack drowning in Nibelheim or any of the other events there (where it's Zack, not him doing things), and he's seeing and remembering things differently than they happened. It's also exactly what we see happen with Dyne where he's talking to his dead wife in an empty room when Barret finds him. Aerith also _feels_ Zack touch her hand from the Lifestream when he does it in the other world ans she's on Gi Nattak's boat. Additionally, there's an NPC in Cosmo Canyon who actually talks in detail about how that other world is a mix of people's hopes, dreams, & memories in the Lifestream and how she wants to meet her deceased parents there some day (I've got that clipped if you wanted to see it).
The end was just so tragic, even more so when Cloud starts seeing her, even though the gang and us know she is gone, the developers really did a great job with that entire sequence and the cast nailed their emotions right on cue, can't wait to hear your take on the ending This is my Game of the Year

I basically almost had the same reaction. When I saw Sephiroth coming down with the sword I said “NO!” When it finally showed the blood on the floor that’s when I lost it. I sobbed until the boss fight started and had to pause the game to recover. I knew she died in the original, even though I haven’t played it. I had a feeling it was about to happen when it did. But it still hurt so bad 😢 My husband was so sweet and held my hand while I was crying. He knew what was gonna happen having played the original game and the location she died in. (I didn’t know where it would take place.) I’m tearing up even now typing this comment. 😢 It was such an emotional scene.
I finished the game basically a month ago. I never got to play the og ff7 and I did hear about what happened to aerith a long time ago and didn’t understand why people got so emotional about it. After playing rebirth it took me a good nights sleep to process the ending and realize what happened. The next day I watched the full ending again. It hit me like a fucking truck and I wasn’t expecting to cry that hard over aerith and the ending. “Is this what y’all og players felt??” Oh my god idk how yall were able to get past that.
All of us who played the OG when it came out in 1997 are a bunch of traumatised people. And it happens once more yesterday for me :D had a very hard time today to think to something else.
Such a beautiful game. I love that Zack and Cloud finally fought side by side, I celebrated the legends finally meeting. Aerith 's death was even more impactful to me than the OG. Cried as though my sister died. Her date with Cloud was super cute. Cloud holding her and breaking down and crying broke my heart. Aerith confessed that she liked him during the date and that made that scene of him crying just want to hug and comfort Cloud cause he was alone for that moment. Everything about chapter 14 was done so well. The last scene with Aerith waving and saying goodbye and then her song coming on just broke me down in tears. I do have questions though but I'll wait til part 3 to get answers.
Also the choir song we hear when first looking at the Forgotten Capital, I'm pretty sure it's almost identical to one we hear in FFX but I might be wrong. And of course the Aerith praying dance
I just realized something. When Cloud and Aerith go to the photographer, she says that we don't have any [photos] either, but this is clearly ignoring the selfie you both took if you did the cosmo canyon photo side quest. My understanding is that all side quests are considered canon by default, with how Rebirth references some of the ones from Remake. This would mean the Aerith you spend time with on the dream date isn't actually the Rebirth Aerith, which might be obvious since she has the white materia and the Rebirth Aerith has a clear one. Thought it was a neat detail. The fact that Sephiroth calls the dream date world a world that has accepted its fate even though it's heavily implied to not be a real world (or an alternate timeline to make this more clear) and instead a lifestream world, the kinds that souls go through to resolve any lingering feelings and regrets before they can move on. Basically purgatory. At this point, the Rebirth Aerith isn't actually dead so it wouldn't really make sense for this to be her homecoming so this is again, the homecoming of the Aerith with the white materia. I think people have speculated that this one is the same as the one from the OG 1997 game so it makes sense that she would act a little differently than the Aerith we know. I guess this Aerith dies at the end of the church scene after Sephiroth walks in, though she'll get replaced by our Rebirth Aerith eventually also entering the lifestream. I guess for why she can't fight back, maybe she's finally ready to move on? Now my prediction for the 3rd game to address the big question. Yes, I think it's possible to save Aerith. But not without dooming the world. Since the "lifestream" Aerith from the OG game is now gone, our Rebirth Aerith has to die and enter the lifestream to be able to stop Sephiroth. So saving her like Cloud did in one "timeline" is actually the bad ending. The Aerith that was saved either already realizes this or will soon realize this when "Holy" fails to stop the meteor. Any timeline in which Sephiroth acquires the Black Materia to cast Meteor is doomed unless Aerith enters the lfiestream, hence in any timeline where this happens, it's too late to save Aerith. Which I think makes Aerith's decision to basically give Cloud the Black Materia at the temple, which she knows Cloud will give to Sephiroth, has more depth than it might first seem. She's effectively choosing to sacrifice herself for a chance to break Cloud free from Sephiroth's control, for a chance to save Cloud. So the choice becomes, are you willing to save the person you love at the cost of dooming the world?
the reason u see aerith after her death is two fold. number one is bc aerith is in the lifestream, which is where her true power was always from, which is how she has some plan that involves her moving zach, getting things and info to cloud, etc. 2. cloud seems to have built some false memory of saving aerith in order to deal with the fact she actually died, which is why we see his sword land and stop sephiroth. he is seen holding limp dead aeriths hand to his face himself. so either he has built a version of her living in his mind to block the pain of her death. or sephiroth is forcing cloud to see things that arent there. could be a combination of the two. like sephiroth said, "you are just a puppet"
Or he did actually save a version of her. There are a lot of reasons to think this is the case too. And him just inventing it would be very out of character, both in terms of Rebirth and OG. After all, he doesn't have a history of creating completely fictitious accounts. The plot twist of the OG is that HE DIDN'T make it all up - he was there in Nib.
I’ve watched so many reaction videos of the ending to see how others initially interpreted the ending and I was so thankful to see you being so much more thoughtful, without the superficial “oh he’s going insane.” For some reason, only a few picked up on the diverging timelines and going between them like you did. I look forward to more content from you. Enjoyable playstyle too by the way.
what hit me hard was replaying the loveless part. Aerith's song hits different cause she knows what's coming. Also make sure and look closely at stamp. Each stamp represents a different world. So if the story is jarring at the end, we are seeing scenes play out in different worlds.
This... destroyed me, I couldn't stop crying, I thought we changed her fate, but no....we lost her still, we couldn't save her!!! Why!?!? This broke my heart even more... I wonder if cloud and everyone visit the shrine to pay respects, I hope they do

I do understand A LOT of the criticism that people have with this ending, but overall I had a pretty good time with it. Having said all that 2:00:22 DEMON CLOUD WILL RETURN WITH HIS BLACK AIR FORCE ENERGY MATERIA!!!
I can't continue to watch that ending. I'm still getting goosebumps every time. My only critique is that there is so much happening in so little time. But that actually made me watch the ending through the eyes of other FF7 enjoyers so it's a win-win in the end
Yea, I really disliked the ending on my first play-thru (I played OG). But with time its gets better and better. I've also been watching a lot of reactions. I feel like new players got a softer blow to Aerith's fate because of all the foreshadowing in this game.
The ending is meant to be confusing. Because just like Cloud, we - the player, now really aren’t sure what exactly happened. The fact that the end credits show every single cinematic, but cuts off everything that happened after Aerith begins speaking to Cloud after getting “killed”… well, we’re just gonna have to wait until part 3 to find out
its not too hard. Aerith did die..as was always going to be the case. He can still "see" her though..but she's physically dead. Cloud is experiencing 2 different worlds at the same time i think...which makes me believe in part 3 he will discover that he didnt save her and will trigger his mental breakdown

Oh man, you'd think after all this time we'd get used to this storyline but a little part of me hoped fate would change and then 47:43 hit me all over again and here we go -- just as teary eyed as the first time I saw it in the OG. Only this time, the death scene and the farewell scene are two for one in the gut punch to the heart scenes. From here on out, I was confused with all the multiverse colliding into one.
I completed the game and platinum a month ago, but my brain until now still full of ff7rebirth. none game has made such a impact in my gaming life, except its original ff7 in 1997. it is not goty but game of the lifetime for me
Zack is no longer in alternate Aerith's dimension since he didn't have the bow on his hand at the end when he woke up in the church. Zack is in Cloud's dimension now I think.
Part 3 is gonna really hit hard. Once Cloud remembers what happened and we see and hear the things that happened in the original..... really gonna tear at everyone
So the ending is definitely messy and strange but I think it's on purpose. I think it's trying to make us feel what it's like to lose a loved one without just giving us the answer. You'll see players of the game debating what really happened to this day, and even the Ultimania references all three ideas and says, "WHO KNOWS?! *wink wink*" Essentially, they set it up to be confusing on whether Cloud is in denial, Aerith was truly saved in one reality, if she's talking to Cloud as a ghost, or all three. So every player is going through a different emotional state just like somebody who is dealing with loss. We're trying to rationalize what happened but we can't. We're saying, "Maybe she's alive! She has to be alive, Cloud saw her," or, "Cloud is in denial and he needs to face the truth head on," or, "She might be gone, but she's still here with us in spirit," which are all ways that people react to death. They either deny the death occurred and refuse to believe it, they confront death head on (those people who say that they HAVE to see the dead body and come to terms with the death immediately) and others will seek hope through a form of afterlife saying that their loved one isn't gone completely. I also think they show a moment that is REALLY easy to miss which is when Tifa walks up and sees what's happening. We can infer that the scene is currently from her perspective, but she is also having weird flashes. The Ultimania indicates that they wanted to portray real feelings of denial like people often experience when handling death, and I think they did so clearly through Tifa's perspective. I think the flashes for her represent something similar to the flashes we see with Cloud- It's her mind trying to deny or reject what she's seeing. She runs up and sees Aerith dead and the blood around her, but her mind tries to deny it. It flashes the blood away and then back again. She looks up to Cloud's face and the blood disappears before reappearing and staying. I think this scene is trying to show that Tifa's brain is trying to reject what she sees at first, but she ultimately accepts what happened (at least in the world that she sees and is a part of). Whether this is reality or not, I think we can only find out when Part 3 comes out. I also had to edit this comment because I hadn't finished watching the whole video when I typed this out. Legitimately, this was the third time I've seen this ending all the way through, and this was the first time I actually cried when her song came on and she just says, "Goodbye" as they fly away. Holy hell. Thank you for this. I feel like I haven't had an emotional reaction to this ending until now, and I really needed it even if it was just a tear from each eye.
Man, Square Enix be cruel sometimes; they make you watch a tragic cutscene, you're in tears and they be like, "Awww, I'm sorry for the emotional damage, but you got a boss fight to do." How are the players supposed to focus with tears in their eyes?! lol
I am really taking my time with this game. Loving it. I love all the side quests you need to do. I am still in the Junon region like 20 hours logged so far. I was 18 when the original game came out and I love seeing the similarities between that and the remake. The music really takes me back. Suzy, I'm not sure if you played the original. I'm guessing you were like 8 years old, if that, when it came out.
1:20:47 also, is Bahamut Arisen the new version of Neo Bahamut? That thing was badass. The OG Bahamut in FFVII was always my fave :) the black dragon... First time summoning him. Wow. ❤

It could just be me in denial but I think she isn’t dead. I think cloud went into a different time line if you notice there seems to be one time line where he saved aerith the remake timeline and then there’s a second timeline the OG in which she dies which is the timeline cloud got sent to. Could explain why she has to “go back” and also why cloud sees the cut in the sky in both “the date with aerith” world and at the end in the OG world. It could be because he doesn’t belong there and that’s why he’s the only one who can see it.
Two things-- Cloud's mako poisoning, and his strings attached by Sephiroth. The same Sephiroth who will stop at nothing from separating Cloud and his girl Tifa. Now that Aerith is dead, she will reunite with her boyfriend Zack Fair in the conclusion. And the part where Tifa keeps a watchful eye on Cloud in Mideel until a huge impact that's coming up 3 to 4 years from now.
The ending broke me , I still balled, but the ending really got me 💜💜😭😭 I can see this becoming Game of the year tho :) its a 10/10 I’m gonna note this , I believe there are other timelines where Aerith is alive , I had to repost this because someone was being kinda disrespectful to me and my opinion , I’m new to the ff7 world, I never played the OG FF7 to where there isn’t any timelines like this so yea , I meant truly we won’t know anything till the final part so. But anyways can’t wait for part 3 ❤❤
Ok so my thoughts are this: I think Aerith did indeed die again but what we see is cloud's denial. When he is speaking on mute, hes saying "my mouth is dry my eyes are burning", like he did in the OG. Clouds teammates realize she died. By the ending, we, as the player are sup[posed to feel like cloud..not really sure whats happening but we kinda know. I think in part 3, cloud will realize shes gone and that will trigger his mental breakdown. And she will have her final "goodbye" "Let it go" moment which will be utterly heartbreaking..and that will be the emotional tearjerker we get to replace her death from the OG
I know this was sad once again but don't lose hope just yet cause there's still a chance that Zack may still save Aerith in the other timeline in part 3 and if the timelines merge they may all see each other again.
The path Cloud will have to go through is way worse than the original. Now not only will he have to deal with this past 5 years ago. Now we will have to deal with his regret and unwillingness to accept Arerith's death. They are setting a super dark path that Cloud will have to overcome.YET the best moment will be him accepting everything and start moseying. I think a speculatory change is that in Sephiroth's ploy, he merged all worlds together. All split groups of the party are fighting Sephiroth Reborn at the same time before the final phase. Like Zach quoted Sephiroth. "Just as worlds merge... so do they part" he goes on to say "but whose to say they won't merge again" the more I think about it, the more I feel that Zach will play a much stronger role in Cloud finding out who he really is... ahh i get goose bumps thinking about it.
Oh we're all emotionally broken after the ending. They humanized the characters with remake/rebirth, especially Aerith. "In the end, the future refused to change." - Chrono Trigger

They didn't let Cloud grieve or process her death like they did in the original. It is so sad that he can see the lifestream version of Aeris still. She is dead in his world but like with the original, she is alive in the lifestream. Her "second home". It is why when she is seen again after her death when they are all sitting around grieving that you hear the lifestream motif play and the version of her you see after that has her hair with the bow. The death scene had her hair down because the bow fell out when Sephiroth killed her. Cloud can still see her because of the mako poisoning and Red XIII can feel her presence because he is in-tune with the lifestream.
This Cloud doesn't grieve because he witnessed the timeline / possibility in which he manages to block Sephiroth. In the end he realized that all are but an illusion. Let's see if they would let us explore the alternative timeline where Cloud managed to block Sephiroth.

I think the aerith's dream is the future of the timeline where cloud stop sephiroth (making sephiroth search for her). So aerith knowing that she will be dead one way or another, she give the white materia to cloud who saved her to him give to aerith dead, then her could stop sephiroth by the lifestream in the background Idk what i ate to thought this, but it's a an option
Cloud created a new alternate timeline where he saved her, she is still alive. Suppose to be 7 timelines altogether like the name of the game FF "7" with "Rebirth" means a new birth like a new timeline Cloud created. Cloud is not speaking to the Aerith that he saved that's why she says goodbye when they fly off. Zack says save her because she is still alive in one of the timelines Cloud created. Zack is alive in the timeline where he didn't get killed, Aerith will be alive in the timeline Cloud created.

Did you notice how fast Cid appearantly fixed the Tiny Bronco? That thing had no wings anymore! How can we be so sure at which timeline we are looking in the end? Also how dafuq did Cloud get the black materia? There's something completely fishy here.
I got so mad because I died on the last fight and picked the wrong option and it restarted me 5 fights back so I turned it off, lol. Thankfully, the fights aren't hard.
Am I crazy, or did they cut some of the dialogue, or maybe I missed it? Before I started the final fight with Sephy, Aerith says "I saw what you did back there Cloud, thank you." I am not finding it in this video.
@@nohemi6899 It's essentially an Easter egg for the OG players. There's dialog that was cut from Cloud when he's holding Arieth, that'll likely be revealed in part 3. There's a fairly major event that deals with Cloud that should happen in part 3 and I think it's conclusion will have us relive what just happened with Arieth with total clarity. Sorry for being vague, don't wanna spoil it in case you wanna experience it blind.

I've only played the original FFVII on og playstation. I haven't played it since the late 90s. FFVII has one of the greatest soundtracks of any game. This makes me want to play this one!
@@Narunata247 This is a game. Anything is possible! Plus Aerith told Cloud he would be happy with the future her. Rebirth had strong potential for Cloud to somehow find Aerith. Just like Aerith said in her song, he’ll find her. Cloud will not be with Tifa! That kiss was empty. Also puppet Cloud snapped attacking Tifa. Notice when Cloud saw Aerith in danger hanging on the ledge Cloud overcame it. Cloud’s love for Aerith is much stronger. The way how Aerith came back to help Cloud, the door is wide open for a “potential” reunion of those two.
What I find interesting is Aerith's speech after the trial. She said that we can grow stronger through suffering, but at what cost? And she said true strength is being ourselves and being able to forgive. I sense that Sephiroth is trying to manipulate Cloud through suffering to make him stronger, but at the cost of Cloud sanity because he needs him strong and manipulable. And I think Aerith, in some way or another, will try to help Cloud learn how to forgive Sephiroth. Maybe forgiving Sephiroth is the only way that he can never come back. The fact that Sephiroth came back is because Cloud held on to the hatred he felt from Sephiroth. If this hatred is gone, then the memory of Sephiroth will not be strong enough for him to come back. I also sense that in some way or another, we will see Sephiroth's past, and without sympathizing with him, maybe we will better understand the struggles he had that made him go crazy. The Ultimania of Rebirth said they want to emphasize Sephiroth's role, so I kind of hope we will see his past.
Aerith's death really hit Tifa the hardest. They became like sisters.

For me the part that hits me, is seeing tifa crying her eyes out beside Red, and a somehow more tragic version of Aerith’s music plays 1:59:19 to be precise.
I agree! All the reinterpretation of the original theme for Aerith used here here in Rebirth I absolutely loved. This particular version made me cry for her all over again too. Seeing her look as her companions leave fly off while she stays below - thats heartbreaking. Cannot wait to see how her character will now be utilized for FF7-3.
In the Og they couldn't stand each other(tifa and aerith) here they formed a much like sisterly bond and Tifa when she saw aerith died at the sanctuary she was like....wtf
That “dream” date Aerith knew her time was limited and just wanted to spend some the last moments happy with Cloud before giving him the white materia.

Cloud is going completely crazy, she is already dead but because of him and his reality of life he does not accept it. Now the black matter has just gotten even worse. If he is already crazy and mentally ill. With that now it's going to get even worse for using that dark matter. I'm loving watching everyone's playthroughs and reactions. I think the devs have perfectly captured her death here. Cloud is repressing everything and doesn't believe what just happened. Part of him is devastated, the other in denial. As I watch different people play, I see the same range of emotions. Half the players are blank faced, not even sure what happened, trying to analyze and reason but they can't because so much is happening at once; there's a fight to win. The other half of the players lose it. They can't fight because they can't see through the tears. They think they "did something wrong," because we are given the visual of "saving her." We are all feeling Cloud's fractured halves right now.
They did Aerith's death scene so well it's unbelievable. We're literally experiencing what Cloud is...incredible
I don't know - we're not supposed to know what happened. If it just turns out he is 'repressing' everything and it's all in his head, that's actually terrible writing. The magic of the OG is that he's not actually that sick and doesn't make everything up. He was actually very close to the truth all along (he was in Nib with the group). If he has created a completely fictitious account that includes Aerith surviving, that's lazy writing and a complete misrepresentation of mental instability.

I didn't just have no materia on everyone else. Cloud was still in most of those battles.
Sadly, this was always Aerith's fate. A tragic self-sacrifice to give hope to the planet. I always felt Aerith deserved respect for this. She knew full well that once she set foot in the Forgotten Capitol, she wasn't leaving alive. And she STILL went. That's bravery.
And she's still helping the Cloud and the party, and actively battling sephiroth for the sake of Gaia.
It wasn’t a sacrifice though. Her plan wasn’t to die in the OG.
You can argue it was a sacrifice this time around, but definitely not originally.

This felt like an actual relative or friend died in real life. I knew I wouldn't be ready to lose Aerith again.. It's one thing reading texts while playing with block characters but they humanized her so much. To the point that I knew it would destroy me or anyone who play these games.. Game of the Year
They handled her death perfectly. The fans who say that this had no emotional impact need to watch this reaction. This game alone had more emotional moments than the entire OG. Also this wasn’t her entire death scene, it was kind of a teaser, the real thing is being saved for part 3 and will hit like a ton of bricks. Awesome playthrough. Part 3 will be incredible.
They did okay. But far from perfect. Seeing her talk to cloud and healing the party and fighting with cloud at the end took alot of the impact away from her death. If they were trying to mystify if she was dead or not, they failed that part imo. Aerith should of just been dead. They rey skywalkered her. Anyways, they should have done the fight and cloud and Zack reunite for the final fight with sephiroth, then they get seperated with Zack reuniting with aerith. Lastly they should of shown cloud carring aerith to the water and letting her go. People say that's in part 3 but it's going to be meaningless by then for most people cause that's in 2-3 years.
@@MrLittlehicks I think they did as well as could be expected, and I don't particularly think they were trying to mystify it, what with showing how torn up the rest of the party is for literally one of the most famous video game moments of all time. Even in the original, she's not actually "dead" in the traditional sense - this is a fantasy world, she's still performing Holy from within the lifestream, and that's made evident at both the end of the original game and in side media like Advent Child. Like yes, she's "dead", but her spirit/soul/whatever you want to call it is still around.
It also shows Cloud's tenuous grip on reality in an interesting way, including the little glance Barrett and Tifa share at the end. Fundamentally, I'm thinking they've still got a good shot at sticking the landing.
@AnimaLepton for me if was when she was praying, she's unsure,not sure if she's doing it right, her mother never taught her. This was all perfect. Then she dies. Talks to cloud, heals the party multiple times and fights. It was a little too on the nose like Rey from star wars. Aerith went from not knowing to being op.

No they didn't. I was sitting there wondering what even happened. I was too busy asking myself that to be sad. I don't have a problem with her showing up again and only Cloud being able to see her spirit. But the part of her death was messed up.

With Aerith now a part of the Lifestream and Tifa having likely gained some abilities herself having been inside a weapon, information between these two might be conveyed. They might be on to Sephiroth's main means and method of controlling Cloud by making him repress Sephiroth's murder of his mother. In Cloud's mind, he believes Nibelheim and her death to be all his fault. He thinks he delivered his family to Sephiroth. Aerith letting Cloud think she is alive a little longer would be a means of protecting him from coming to this same conclusion about her, long enough until Tifa helps him face these nightmares and cope with them. He hasn't been ready yet, as was apparent in the Tifa version of the garden scene in Remake when touching her brought on physical pain. She would only and always remind him of home. The worst part of extreme trauma is that it can take the things in life that are most enjoyable to you and make then agonizing.

oh crap, that church scene with the forbeoding of farewells makes me tear up after seeing it like ten times. This game is something else.
Cloud's been seeing dead people walking around and talking to him ever since he encountered Sephiroth (who he personally killed), when he first saw him again WAY back in Chapter 2 of Remake. Aerith's also been able to project herself to Cloud when she's not physically there before in Chapter 13 when she's captured at the Shinra HQ and he's at her house. This is likely because Cloud's Mako-poisoned "real" self is still mixed up with other hopes & dreams of different people in his head, and as a Cetra Aerith is connected to those parts of the Planet and can eventually hear and communicate to them just like she did when Elmyra's husband attempted to visit her before he Returned to the Planet when he was KIA in the Wutai War. That's why she's trying to find the "real" Cloud in the other world when he's passed out and dreaming.
In the real world, Cloud's mind just keeps constantly overwriting what actually happened with a version of events that makes sense to him - complete with active visual hallucinations. It's the same thing that happens in Chapter 9 at the Gongaga Reactor when Sephiroth nudges that to make Cloud doubt Tifa is real, which she brings up again just before the Forgotten Capital.
What we see Cloud experiencing there and at the end of the game is just like how we see him misremembering Zack drowning in Nibelheim or any of the other events there (where it's Zack, not him doing things), and he's seeing and remembering things differently than they happened. It's also exactly what we see happen with Dyne where he's talking to his dead wife in an empty room when Barret finds him.
Aerith also _feels_ Zack touch her hand from the Lifestream when he does it in the other world ans she's on Gi Nattak's boat. Additionally, there's an NPC in Cosmo Canyon who actually talks in detail about how that other world is a mix of people's hopes, dreams, & memories in the Lifestream and how she wants to meet her deceased parents there some day (I've got that clipped if you wanted to see it).
Came back to this to say, thank you for your reaction video / playthrough. The finale was such a struggle 😢
The end was just so tragic, even more so when Cloud starts seeing her, even though the gang and us know she is gone, the developers really did a great job with that entire sequence and the cast nailed their emotions right on cue, can't wait to hear your take on the ending

I basically almost had the same reaction. When I saw Sephiroth coming down with the sword I said “NO!” When it finally showed the blood on the floor that’s when I lost it. I sobbed until the boss fight started and had to pause the game to recover. I knew she died in the original, even though I haven’t played it. I had a feeling it was about to happen when it did. But it still hurt so bad 😢 My husband was so sweet and held my hand while I was crying. He knew what was gonna happen having played the original game and the location she died in. (I didn’t know where it would take place.) I’m tearing up even now typing this comment. 😢 It was such an emotional scene.

I finished the game basically a month ago. I never got to play the og ff7 and I did hear about what happened to aerith a long time ago and didn’t understand why people got so emotional about it. After playing rebirth it took me a good nights sleep to process the ending and realize what happened.
The next day I watched the full ending again. It hit me like a fucking truck and I wasn’t expecting to cry that hard over aerith and the ending. “Is this what y’all og players felt??” Oh my god idk how yall were able to get past that.
All of us who played the OG when it came out in 1997 are a bunch of traumatised people. And it happens once more yesterday for me :D had a very hard time today to think to something else.
Such a beautiful game. I love that Zack and Cloud finally fought side by side, I celebrated the legends finally meeting. Aerith 's death was even more impactful to me than the OG. Cried as though my sister died. Her date with Cloud was super cute. Cloud holding her and breaking down and crying broke my heart. Aerith confessed that she liked him during the date and that made that scene of him crying just want to hug and comfort Cloud cause he was alone for that moment. Everything about chapter 14 was done so well. The last scene with Aerith waving and saying goodbye and then her song coming on just broke me down in tears. I do have questions though but I'll wait til part 3 to get answers.

I just realized something. When Cloud and Aerith go to the photographer, she says that we don't have any [photos] either, but this is clearly ignoring the selfie you both took if you did the cosmo canyon photo side quest. My understanding is that all side quests are considered canon by default, with how Rebirth references some of the ones from Remake. This would mean the Aerith you spend time with on the dream date isn't actually the Rebirth Aerith, which might be obvious since she has the white materia and the Rebirth Aerith has a clear one. Thought it was a neat detail.
The fact that Sephiroth calls the dream date world a world that has accepted its fate even though it's heavily implied to not be a real world (or an alternate timeline to make this more clear) and instead a lifestream world, the kinds that souls go through to resolve any lingering feelings and regrets before they can move on. Basically purgatory. At this point, the Rebirth Aerith isn't actually dead so it wouldn't really make sense for this to be her homecoming so this is again, the homecoming of the Aerith with the white materia. I think people have speculated that this one is the same as the one from the OG 1997 game so it makes sense that she would act a little differently than the Aerith we know. I guess this Aerith dies at the end of the church scene after Sephiroth walks in, though she'll get replaced by our Rebirth Aerith eventually also entering the lifestream. I guess for why she can't fight back, maybe she's finally ready to move on?
Now my prediction for the 3rd game to address the big question. Yes, I think it's possible to save Aerith. But not without dooming the world. Since the "lifestream" Aerith from the OG game is now gone, our Rebirth Aerith has to die and enter the lifestream to be able to stop Sephiroth. So saving her like Cloud did in one "timeline" is actually the bad ending. The Aerith that was saved either already realizes this or will soon realize this when "Holy" fails to stop the meteor. Any timeline in which Sephiroth acquires the Black Materia to cast Meteor is doomed unless Aerith enters the lfiestream, hence in any timeline where this happens, it's too late to save Aerith. Which I think makes Aerith's decision to basically give Cloud the Black Materia at the temple, which she knows Cloud will give to Sephiroth, has more depth than it might first seem. She's effectively choosing to sacrifice herself for a chance to break Cloud free from Sephiroth's control, for a chance to save Cloud. So the choice becomes, are you willing to save the person you love at the cost of dooming the world?

the reason u see aerith after her death is two fold. number one is bc aerith is in the lifestream, which is where her true power was always from, which is how she has some plan that involves her moving zach, getting things and info to cloud, etc. 2. cloud seems to have built some false memory of saving aerith in order to deal with the fact she actually died, which is why we see his sword land and stop sephiroth. he is seen holding limp dead aeriths hand to his face himself. so either he has built a version of her living in his mind to block the pain of her death. or sephiroth is forcing cloud to see things that arent there. could be a combination of the two. like sephiroth said, "you are just a puppet"
Or he did actually save a version of her. There are a lot of reasons to think this is the case too. And him just inventing it would be very out of character, both in terms of Rebirth and OG. After all, he doesn't have a history of creating completely fictitious accounts. The plot twist of the OG is that HE DIDN'T make it all up - he was there in Nib.
I’ve watched so many reaction videos of the ending to see how others initially interpreted the ending and I was so thankful to see you being so much more thoughtful, without the superficial “oh he’s going insane.” For some reason, only a few picked up on the diverging timelines and going between them like you did. what hit me hard was replaying the loveless part. Aerith's song hits different cause she knows what's coming.
Also make sure and look closely at stamp. Each stamp represents a different world. So if the story is jarring at the end, we are seeing scenes play out in different worlds.

Yea, I really disliked the ending on my first play-thru (I played OG). But with time its gets better and better. I've also been watching a lot of reactions. I feel like new players got a softer blow to Aerith's fate because of all the foreshadowing in this game.

Cloud is experiencing 2 different worlds at the same time i think...which makes me believe in part 3 he will discover that he didnt save her and will trigger his mental breakdown

Oh man, you'd think after all this time we'd get used to this storyline but a little part of me hoped fate would change and then 47:43 hit me all over again and here we go -- just as teary eyed as the first time I saw it in the OG. Only this time, the death scene and the farewell scene are two for one in the gut punch to the heart scenes. From here on out, I was confused with all the multiverse colliding into one.

Part 3 is gonna really hit hard. Once Cloud remembers what happened and we see and hear the things that happened in the original..... really gonna tear at everyone
So the ending is definitely messy and strange but I think it's on purpose. I think it's trying to make us feel what it's like to lose a loved one without just giving us the answer.
You'll see players of the game debating what really happened to this day, and even the Ultimania references all three ideas and says, "WHO KNOWS?! *wink wink*"
Essentially, they set it up to be confusing on whether Cloud is in denial, Aerith was truly saved in one reality, if she's talking to Cloud as a ghost, or all three. So every player is going through a different emotional state just like somebody who is dealing with loss. We're trying to rationalize what happened but we can't. We're saying, "Maybe she's alive! She has to be alive, Cloud saw her," or, "Cloud is in denial and he needs to face the truth head on," or, "She might be gone, but she's still here with us in spirit," which are all ways that people react to death. They either deny the death occurred and refuse to believe it, they confront death head on (those people who say that they HAVE to see the dead body and come to terms with the death immediately) and others will seek hope through a form of afterlife saying that their loved one isn't gone completely.
I also think they show a moment that is REALLY easy to miss which is when Tifa walks up and sees what's happening. We can infer that the scene is currently from her perspective, but she is also having weird flashes. The Ultimania indicates that they wanted to portray real feelings of denial like people often experience when handling death, and I think they did so clearly through Tifa's perspective. I think the flashes for her represent something similar to the flashes we see with Cloud- It's her mind trying to deny or reject what she's seeing. She runs up and sees Aerith dead and the blood around her, but her mind tries to deny it. It flashes the blood away and then back again. She looks up to Cloud's face and the blood disappears before reappearing and staying.
I think this scene is trying to show that Tifa's brain is trying to reject what she sees at first, but she ultimately accepts what happened (at least in the world that she sees and is a part of).
Whether this is reality or not, I think we can only find out when Part 3 comes out.
I also had to edit this comment because I hadn't finished watching the whole video when I typed this out. Legitimately, this was the third time I've seen this ending all the way through, and this was the first time I actually cried when her song came on and she just says, "Goodbye" as they fly away. Holy hell. Thank you for this. I feel like I haven't had an emotional reaction to this ending until now, and I really needed it even if it was just a tear from each eye.

I am really taking my time with this game. Loving it. I love all the side quests you need to do. I am still in the Junon region like 20 hours logged so far. I was 18 when the original game came out and I love seeing the similarities between that and the remake. The music really takes me back. Suzy, I'm not sure if you played the original. I'm guessing you were like 8 years old, if that, when it came out.
I played FF8 first and then went back to FF7 in 1999. Played every single FF since then as they came out. Quite a FF nerd and proud. 😆

It could just be me in denial but I think she isn’t dead. I think cloud went into a different time line if you notice there seems to be one time line where he saved aerith the remake timeline and then there’s a second timeline the OG in which she dies which is the timeline cloud got sent to. Could explain why she has to “go back” and also why cloud sees the cut in the sky in both “the date with aerith” world and at the end in the OG world. It could be because he doesn’t belong there and that’s why he’s the only one who can see it.
Two things-- Cloud's mako poisoning, and his strings attached by Sephiroth. The same Sephiroth who will stop at nothing from separating Cloud and his girl Tifa.
Now that Aerith is dead, she will reunite with her boyfriend Zack Fair in the conclusion. And the part where Tifa keeps a watchful eye on Cloud in Mideel until a huge impact that's coming up 3 to 4 years from now.
What a sad ending, great job on beating this game Suzy 🙂

I’m gonna note this , I believe there are other timelines where Aerith is alive , I had to repost this because someone was being kinda disrespectful to me and my opinion , I’m new to the ff7 world, I never played the OG FF7 to where there isn’t any timelines like this so yea , I meant truly we won’t know anything till the final part so.

Ok so my thoughts are this: I think Aerith did indeed die again but what we see is cloud's denial. When he is speaking on mute, hes saying "my mouth is dry my eyes are burning", like he did in the OG. Clouds teammates realize she died. By the ending, we, as the player are sup[posed to feel like cloud..not really sure whats happening but we kinda know. I think in part 3, cloud will realize shes gone and that will trigger his mental breakdown. And she will have her final "goodbye" "Let it go" moment which will be utterly heartbreaking..and that will be the emotional tearjerker we get to replace her death from the OG
I know this was sad once again but don't lose hope just yet cause there's still a chance that Zack may still save Aerith in the other timeline in part 3 and if the timelines merge they may all see each other again.

The path Cloud will have to go through is way worse than the original. Now not only will he have to deal with this past 5 years ago. Now we will have to deal with his regret and unwillingness to accept Arerith's death. They are setting a super dark path that Cloud will have to overcome.YET the best moment will be him accepting everything and start moseying. I think a speculatory change is that in Sephiroth's ploy, he merged all worlds together. All split groups of the party are fighting Sephiroth Reborn at the same time before the final phase. Like Zach quoted Sephiroth. "Just as worlds merge... so do they part" he goes on to say "but whose to say they won't merge again" the more I think about it, the more I feel that Zach will play a much stronger role in Cloud finding out who he really is... ahh i get goose bumps thinking about it.
Oh we're all emotionally broken after the ending. They humanized the characters with remake/rebirth, especially Aerith.

They didn't let Cloud grieve or process her death like they did in the original. It is so sad that he can see the lifestream version of Aeris still. She is dead in his world but like with the original, she is alive in the lifestream. Her "second home". It is why when she is seen again after her death when they are all sitting around grieving that you hear the lifestream motif play and the version of her you see after that has her hair with the bow. The death scene had her hair down because the bow fell out when Sephiroth killed her. Cloud can still see her because of the mako poisoning and Red XIII can feel her presence because he is in-tune with the lifestream.

This Cloud doesn't grieve because he witnessed the timeline / possibility in which he manages to block Sephiroth. In the end he realized that all are but an illusion.
Let's see if they would let us explore the alternative timeline where Cloud managed to block Sephiroth.

I think the aerith's dream is the future of the timeline where cloud stop sephiroth (making sephiroth search for her). So aerith knowing that she will be dead one way or another, she give the white materia to cloud who saved her to him give to aerith dead, then her could stop sephiroth by the lifestream in the background

Cloud created a new alternate timeline where he saved her, she is still alive. Suppose to be 7 timelines altogether like the name of the game FF "7" with "Rebirth" means a new birth like a new timeline Cloud created. Cloud is not speaking to the Aerith that he saved that's why she says goodbye when they fly off. Zack says save her because she is still alive in one of the timelines Cloud created. Zack is alive in the timeline where he didn't get killed, Aerith will be alive in the timeline Cloud created.

I got so mad because I died on the last fight and picked the wrong option and it restarted me 5 fights back so I turned it off, lol. Thankfully, the fights aren't hard.

@@nohemi6899 It's essentially an Easter egg for the OG players. There's dialog that was cut from Cloud when he's holding Arieth, that'll likely be revealed in part 3. There's a fairly major event that deals with Cloud that should happen in part 3 and I think it's conclusion will have us relive what just happened with Arieth with total clarity. Sorry for being vague, don't wanna spoil it in case you wanna experience it blind.

I've only played the original FFVII on og playstation. I haven't played it since the late 90s. FFVII has one of the greatest soundtracks of any game. This makes me want to play this one!
I hope Zack doesn’t end up with Aerith in part 3. Hopefully they’ll have it where we can select dialogue again to determine their development.

@@Narunata247 This is a game. Anything is possible! Plus Aerith told Cloud he would be happy with the future her. Rebirth had strong potential for Cloud to somehow find Aerith. Just like Aerith said in her song, he’ll find her. Cloud will not be with Tifa! That kiss was empty. Also puppet Cloud snapped attacking Tifa. Notice when Cloud saw Aerith in danger hanging on the ledge Cloud overcame it. Cloud’s love for Aerith is much stronger. The way how Aerith came back to help Cloud, the door is wide open for a “potential” reunion of those two.
That's the thing with Final Fantasy games expect something to bring you to tears & dammit its happened again with rebirth 😢
What I find interesting is Aerith's speech after the trial. She said that we can grow stronger through suffering, but at what cost? And she said true strength is being ourselves and being able to forgive.
I sense that Sephiroth is trying to manipulate Cloud through suffering to make him stronger, but at the cost of Cloud sanity because he needs him strong and manipulable. And I think Aerith, in some way or another, will try to help Cloud learn how to forgive Sephiroth. Maybe forgiving Sephiroth is the only way that he can never come back. The fact that Sephiroth came back is because Cloud held on to the hatred he felt from Sephiroth. If this hatred is gone, then the memory of Sephiroth will not be strong enough for him to come back. I also sense that in some way or another, we will see Sephiroth's past, and without sympathizing with him, maybe we will better understand the struggles he had that made him go crazy. The Ultimania of Rebirth said they want to emphasize Sephiroth's role, so I kind of hope we will see his past.
