- Sometimes, you just need to build what you want. Just like with this 2003 2wd Truck that was converted to a one ton solid axle 4x4!
I love watching this rig wheel places it has no business being and following him through the tight and twisty is always a great time!

You don't need a 2wd box for these trucks. The stock 4wd box is a side to side also. I used a 94 chevy 4wd box on my crawler originally. We kept the stock box on my buddy's 94 suburban when we did the solid axle swap. Used ORD's kit also. I noticed you have the same problem with ORD's greaseable bolts. The grease fittings fall out. This is probably the only issue I have ever had with their products.
Great information. Gonna tag this to the top. We were both unsure and didn’t wanna give wrong info.
I have a 4x4 06 2500HD with a radius arm setup Dana 60 using a stock location PSC steering box. Could have used the stock box but it was sloppy from 180k miles of use.
My grease fitting failed because it got hit while wheeling. All the other ones have held up great so far. And you can see on most of my other grease fitting I was generous with the grease before my last trip. Embarrassing how bad they look. Haha.
@@solohopper I've knocked them off installing and greasing them. To ORD's credit they told me to bring them in and would replace them. Since they are in my area. But I haven't bothered.
@@kylescaggs can u post everything u have?
My 2wd 1500 turned out bad ass. Duke and you helped me with lots of road blocks, but got over them.
Heck yea man. That’s the deal right there. The Obstacle IS the way!
I’ve wanted to build a truck the exact same way except with a Ford axle to keep the front shaft in the drivers side. Killer build!!!
Ferd? Ha ha. Jk. Super duty dana 60 is 🥩
Love this build especially the California TAG!! CONGRATS!!
Just how I want to do my 2005 gmc 2500hd 2wd, nice
It’s a killer rig and Esteban has been constantly improving it!
Esteban is a great dude, he always plans fun trips and has a very capable rig! Glad you were able to get a walk around video of that green beast "Big Sexy". Great video!
He wouldn’t be half as able without his wingman / spotter.
Merricks right. Good spotters are key!! Thanks to Kuch and ALL of the guys I wheel with for being patient.
Love the spare driveshaft locations. Awesome.
Almost done with my 04 1500. I have 285/75r16 on mine, 4l80e swap, sitting on 01 f250 axles.
Crazy this is just barely being recommended to me!! Seen it in person but the walk around video is awesome, that’s a great spot for spare parts.
Glad you found it! Despite UA-cam’s efforts!! Ha ha
That’s badass build
I'm a big fan of this rig and the overview style video. I've wanted to sas a 99-07 GM truck. For me, I think it would be a super duty front axle and an older model 241 to make it work. Lately I've been really looking into what it takes to make a doubler case. I'm thinking a GM 241 mated to a 2nd gen Dodge 241 would be the way to go but I've never heard of anyone doing much of anything like that.
Mean machine, Nice...
Man, those ‘cat eye’ chevys are the coolest... I’m on the search for a 2500 with the nv4500 trans, but rarity and the absurdity of the used market is not helping! Keep up the good videos!
Thanks man, why not swap a trans in? I’m goin with a Tremec TR4050 in the burb build.
ive got NV4500s for sale. im on the east coast but i can ship them. not charging an arm and a leg either...
Thats so wicked man,. i love that set up man.... Loving these vids man
Thanks a ton!
My c10 is almost k10 after much frustration
Great video guys!!! Esteban is an amazing driver but he has this bad habit of sticking "solohopper green" bow ties on everyone's rigs.... Bwahahaha! Glad to know you brother! It's been awesome wheeling with and getting to know you this year!
To many more trails!!
Great build love the truck definitely a beast 👍 keep the video coming
NOT THE WELDS BRO!!
Ha ha. We all start somewhere. I have so many really rough spots on my truck from when I had just started! I’m slowly working my way over all of them!
I would like to see the video of this on The Pickle trail. That is tight
Go check out reckless wrench garage here in UA-cam. They have a video of it. It’s awesome.
@@MerricksGarage I have watched that one. Didn't realize this truck was in it.
I have a video on my Instagram too. Solohopper03
4wd steering box is the same.
That's an awesome video and truck! I know he talked about everything is in it but, there's a way to see some of the actual footage of his build or a parts list that I can get to start gathering stuff? It'll be greatly appreciated man
I wish, no sorry.
@@MerricksGarage ok, thanks man.
I guess I'll try some of the options that are out there to make my SAS , what I have the most trouble is figuring the fab on the arms ...
@MerricksGarage How much u charge for this swap shorty?
So 70s style 44 axle, 205 tcase, and ORD SAS Shackle hangers and shackle flip kit. Any possibility these parts will work for a 2005 1/2 ton? I’m working on getting everything together. Getting axles out of 87 3/4 ton pickup and not sure if I wanna go 205/208 yet. And another question is wiring for your speed sensor etc …
yea, that will work once you convert. Make sure you get a VSS in the transfer case (talk to OffRoad Design) and you will be good to go
Vss? Sry not familiar with what that is
Do you know if he was able to retain the factory abs?
I didnt attempt to. I just removed it all and I just live with the ABS and Brake light always on in the dash. I was told i could have it removed with a OBD tool but haven't bothered with it.
on this video, around 8:30- you guys are talking about his power steering reservoir being extended up.. whats the reasoning for doing that?
i have a 05' 2500hd and trying to get into wheeling more.
What was the brand of the kit you used for the front axle swap? I have a 06 gmc 2500 HD 2wd. And ive been looking for a old square. And to my surprise buying one thats not a pile of crap is hard to find under 8 grand. So im going to build myself one. 6.0 LS 4 speed and a np205. Also would you have any tips for me?
I need some rock sliders like that for my ‘06 GMC 2500HD Duramax. Does Esteban make and install these? Interested…
I don't at this point.
What leaf springs do you recommend on this rig? What transmission/transfer case did you wind up using? Would love to do this to my 1500hd
What rear shackle flip is on the truck?
If i remember correctly its the one ORD makes for this truck. (i know....late reply)
Where did you get the bump stops and that ord belly plate. Did they make that or did you ?
I made the front and rear bumpstop mounts. the actual bumpstops in the front are just the stock bumpstops that came in the rear of the truck. And the rear bumpstops are daystar. I also made the belly plate. It just has an ORD sticker on it. Three individual plates with two crossmembers holding it all in place. It's HEAVY!!
The front shock towers are ford shock towers. Dorman 523-054. easy to bolt or weld on and work great.
Got my t case clocked down alot , prolly cant make a skid plate work for me .
@@anonymousblank2353 oh gotcha. But why is it clocked down??
Running 40s on wontons with my 2005 1500. Got like 15 inch of lift. Need to clock for front driveshaft angle
Does anyone have the link to the front leaf spring mounts??
Where did you get the rear bumper
I want to put a solid axle to my 2001 Chevy silverado 2500hd 4x4 6.0 anyone in Arizona to help me with?
Bro get off the truck, show some respect
