NC A&T - The Adele Show 9.1.2012

- The North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University "Blue and Gold Marching Machine" plays a show saluting Grammy-winning artist Adele.
Disclaimer: The band pays ASCAP fees and there is never any copyright infringement intended. These performances are for edutainment only.
The show was performed at the halftime in the game against Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC. Songs include "Rolling in the Deep," "Someone Like You," Rumour Has It," and "Set Fire to Rain." Songs were arranged by yours truly, and the band is under the guidance and direction of Dr. Kenneth G. Ruff, Director of Bands.
The BGMM will be traveling to NYC for the 2012 Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, and we need your help to get there. For more information, please visit the band website at www.marchingmachine.com, or you can call (336) 334-7776 for more information on how to support the band or even become a member.
Special thanks to the CCU band and staff for their wonderful hospitality, and for allowing us this opportunity. Also, special thanks to Adele for the wonderful and inspiring music.

Cameras: Canon EOS 5D mkII, Canon EOS 7D, Canon EOS Rebel T4i
Audio: Sound Devices 788T
Mics: 2x Sennheiser MKH-8040, 2x AKG Perception 420, 1x Rode NTG-3
Video and audio encoded using Final Cut Pro X.
I was born and raised in Baton Rouge Louisiana down the street from Southern University. When I got old enough I used to watch SU Marching Band practice every night and see them perform halftime at the games. After seeing this show, I can honestly say that I would have been as proud and excited to live down the street from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and watch the "Blue and Gold Marching Machine" practice and perform. You all are amazing!!!!

Spartan here green and gold till I die; but A&T I really enjoyed that show; it gave me everything I wanted and needed even without a dance routine.....congrats.
I attended this game and sat on the visitor's side. To be honest with you, at the time I didn't really like this show. But once I had a chance to watch it on UA-cam from the "home" side, I fell in love with it. The music arrangements are fantastic! Thomas Jones, the music arranger for the band did a great job with these songs. And the A&T Marching Band musicians were out of this world. They have a very unique sound and can blow you out of the front rows in the stands. Great show!

We are always our worst critics but looking at this show from a overall concept ..i love the way A&T pulled this off....this is diversity....combining corps style and traditional at the same damn time.. i give them props on this

A & T I'm a diehard Aristocrat but I must say, you are impressive. I think you all have a sound quality that is desirable to all HBCUs. I don't know if you have a new band director this year but this hybrid chore and marching style is inovative and fresh. You may have just started the Next-Big-Thing for all HBCUs. God Bless all of you for taking that bold out-of-the-box thinking approach. Your sound is balanced and beautiful! Don't turn back, keep moving forward. You are awesome!

If I had to go to an Agricultural and Technical school... i would want to go to North Carolina AnT State University
It was kind of different seeing A&T not do a dance routine or have a drum line feature in their show cause they are notorious for Cold Steel doing tricks and a full blown dance routine where they get down with the get down on the field but it was a good look for them. They just showed us that they can have a nice clean show and I applaud them for that. Loved the whole show especially when they fused "Someone like you", "Rumor has it", and "Set fire to the rain". Awesome Show. Big ups A&T.
Yes, that I know. That's why I said I hope it's just the first game b/c you know how the first time is & after that things get better. So I'm waiting to see future performances to give a full judgement.

I am glad you love GD. And thank you. Rest assured, one performance does not a "fall off" make. :) Trying new things is risky and many are unwilling to do so. However, we will continue to push those limits. We are confident that real fans, friends and Aggies will be excited when we are great and when we are growing. No worries about GD this season. This performance is proof that HBCU bands can produce a quality sound and exemplify true musicianship. "Rumour has it" that HBCU bands don't care about how they sound, just as long as they play loud. But I know better....

Don't get me wrong, I'm not one for making excuses BUT to GD's credit, this is a squad that's almost COMPLETELY new. The polished squads of recent yrs have been composed of seasoned veterans who had a working knowledge of each other's abilities and an established chemistry. Give these young ladies a little time. They'll be just fine.
I won't post any names, but I see some familiar faces. It also looks like they're spinning fire at 5:35. Cool effect!

I don't think I have ever heard NCA&T sound this good.They have always been straight but never like this. Is the footage tampered with? LOL.
Speaking on my GD "slightly falling off" comment, I didn't mean it in a way of that they'll never be as good as they were in previous years. I just was speaking in terms of this particular peformance. I think if they had an arrangement like the one they did last season to Beyonce's End of Time then it would've made for a better performance b/c this was the perfect Adele song for them to dance to, tempo and all. No matter what, GD is always going to be the Best Dance Auxillary in HBCU history!!!

They kinda looked all over the place. Hopefully it's just b/c it was the first performance & that they'll be much better performances to come.
Sorry but I didn't mean falling off as in there's no way of coming back to greatness, just saying this particular performance. No matter how rough a GD performance may look, there's no dance squad out there that does the things that GD does & to make it look soo easy at the same time is just pure talent. But yes, I'm just waiting for next week to see something a little better & wish GD & the BGMM a great season!!
