    Bought 04 5.9 seven months ago with 168000 mi, total stock, upgraded transmission, added cold air intake, started having problems starting, Bought new batteries, problem solved, getting 22mpg running around, pulls boat very well, I'm happy with it

    I think the 24v is the best overall. Yeah it not quite as reliable as a 12v but you're splitting hairs at that point and the electronic fuel control gives you more power and efficiency. Ive got an 06 manual with roll up windows that im keeping forever.

    Good info overall.
    A few points:
    There were cats on the 03-04 California emission trucks. 04.5 600 series was a 50 state legal engine.
    2005 had a intercooler that was prone to splitting.

    Not all 53 blocks are bad and the bad ones normally cracked around 50,000 miles. If you run into a 53 block at this point over 20 years old it’s good. I have a 53 block with 280,000 miles with an edge tuner, 40 over injectors, air dog lift pump, hx35 turbo with wicked wheel, cold air intake, rear air suspension, aftermarket intake horn, NV4500 5 speed manual transmission swap with no motor blow by or leaks underneath.

    Alright more to think about I’m looking at getting 84-86 Bullnose F250 thinking of the 5.9 12v with like Alison Transmission. Possibly adding compound turbos not trying to race it it just a nice pick me up from a stand still point.

    That's the same motor I have in my 2001 Dodge 3/4 ton 300000 miles bone stock doesn't smoke a bit. I love it. Should I be concerned about the killer Dowl pin

    Cummins was ok until 3rd generation cam along. Bought new an 04 with nv5600. Between injectors and stiff shifting it was a total commonfail. 60k took it to the scrap yard and watched it get crushed.

    Is there much to be concerned with having one with a Catalytic converter? Really thinking in lines with MPGs. I've read numbers all over the place.

    I’ve owned em all. Hands down the best and most reliable trucks were the 03-04 6 speeds. My 02 was good too. 12 valves...over rated and have problems too.

    Looking at a 04 5.9l ram 2500. it has a firepunk stage 2 auto trans and a fass fuel system and 150k miles. guy is asking $18k. if everything checks out with blowby, no leaks, no play in the wheels and shit, and no rust (i live in Texas) do you think that is a fair price? looking to tow a travel trailer with a very reliable truck.

    • @8020Media
      @8020Media  9 місяців тому

      Feels pretty reasonable for the mileage. Would just make sure it hasn't been beat to shit with aggressive tuning considering the built trans. Otherwise sounds reasonable, if it's overpriced at all it's by a grand or two max, so I wouldn't say you got a bad deal on it for that price.

    • @splift23
      @splift23 9 місяців тому +1

      @@8020Mediadecided to go with a different truck, a bit more miles but got it for 14.5, built manual trans (not tuned), airdog, and zero blowby. leaking a little bit of oil but i'm pretty sure its either the oil pan or the front crankshaft seal, it left a little oil over the steering rack and 2-3 drops of oil on the pavement after driving for 3 hours at 70mph and sat overnight.

    Thanks for your nice info-clip even though I'll keep my 12 valve Cummins with over 500K on the untouched (shut off solenoid replaced @ 400K) 300+ HP (4" open pipe and S&B air intake system) engine.
    I am still running on the original injectors and the fuel consumption went down to about 22,5 mpg and it may be a good idea to replace them soon.
