The traffic is an absolute nightmare in Fairfield county.

    • @Ninjanimegamer
      @Ninjanimegamer 2 місяці тому

Thank goodness i95 is a 6 lane highway down in that area. Could you imagine if it only had two lanes?
Back in the 70's it was only a three lane highway with toll booths in Westport. The rush hour traffic back then felt like what 10am traffic is today. There were fewer cars, but we still complained. In a few years from now, traffic will only get worse.
Both my husband and I lived in Fairfield county, but moved to the middle of the state. There is no traffic, and we can get our grocery shopping done round trip in under a half hour.
Living near the beach in FC, it took almost 40 minutes to get to the stores, and we didn't live far.

The lady has an understated but fantastic sense of humor and gives of the state an excellent overview. Connecticut has fantastic schools, beautiful museums, art and culture everywhere but also a lot of poverty in certain cities. The landscape is beautiful with forests, the people are very civilized but the coldest and wariest I have ever seen in any state. Human warmth is not everywhere

We live in Wolcott and our taxes are $333.33/month ($4000/yr.). For some reason, Wolcott hasn't increased their taxes in 20+ years. I'm sure that will change at some point, but for now I'm not complaining.
Prior to living in Wolcott, we lived in waterbury for a few years. Our taxes went up every year and we had to argue with the city that our house had not been updated or didn't have the amenities the city claimed. An appraiser came out to assess and every time the city readjusted our taxes to go back to where they were the previous year. Every year we had to stay on top of the city, but imagine all the poor people that don't know to do that. With the tax jumps every year people get stuck in cities and it's harder to move when you can't save.

There is DEFINITELY a Connecticut dialect. I live in Texas now and other Connecticut transplants can identify where I'm from pretty easily. The pronunciation of "Coventry" or "Wolcott" gives it away or saying "grinder" and "tag sale." I find that people in the CT River Valley have the most marked form of it, like my cousins in Enfield.

We *do* have a slight accent: the glottal stop in words like “kitten” and “New Britain”. Agree that New Haven pizza is the best; fortunately, Frank Pepe’s has expanded beyond just New Haven. They even have something called “fresh tomato pie,” which is only available three months out of the year. You haven’t truly tasted pizza until you try this annual tradition. I’m with you that we can drive six hours in any direction and be in another state (or the ocean, or even Canada).

Love the outdoors here, plenty of open space and fresh air, public beaches with free access and parking. The schools, is generally are😅 well funded and plenty of health care options are available. Taxes can be high, specially property taxes but you do not have county taxes. Wages are good here, but their is a wide range of incomes. Good train services exists to both Boston and New York making day trips doable.

i95 is a 6 lane highway from the NY border to branford and 4 lanes between east haven and Rhode Island.
Rt 84 goes from 3 lanes to 6 lanes.
    Rt 9 is four lanes.
i91 for the most part is a 3 lane highway.
Rt 8 is the same as rt 25 down in Bridgeport. At that merger rt 8 has 10 lanes. Most of the stretch of rt 8 goes between 2, 4, 6, 8 lanes.
The Merritt parkway is the only highway that has two lanes the entire way. It is considered the scenic route.
We have other smaller highways, but they all have more than two lanes.
I travel this state daily, from West Haven to Litchfield. I grew up in Fairfield county and saw i95 go from 3 to lanes to 6. I am old enough to remember the toll booths in Westport on i95.
If these highways were mostly two lanes, can you imagine the traffic?

I moved to CT 6 years ago from upstate Ny. Like most out of staters, I HATED It here. It seemed expensive and full of rich snobby people. But today, I love my life in CT and I could never move back to NY. Ct is it’s own little bubble, we do our own thing here. Lots of rich New England history, beautiful scenery. Beaches. Lots of people with old classic cars. We’re also the number one state in the the US for hiking. So there is lots of wild life and nature to explore here as well. CT will grow on you after awhile, just stay out of any major city. It’s all about the small quaint little towns. Property costs are way too expensive however.

We get 7 months of chilly/cold weather, 5 months of decent summer weather if you like high humidity, the drivers are nuts, aside from the shore, and the fall foliage in the quiet corner there is nothing to do here except work. It's a boring state with very little reason for tourists to come here. Almost all the visitors who come here are either seeing family, and only the family you can't get out of seeing, or they are visiting on business. Taxes keep going up from already astronomical tates, and we have the second worst housing rates in the country, only following Massachusetts, and then our government is too brilliant to have any clue why we are in a mass exodus out of here. Right now $3000 a month will get you a cardboard box to have on the street.

There are actually three faint accents in CT. In the east, there is a hint of Massachusetts, dropping off the last R in words-"pahk the cah"'. In the west there is a touch of New York- we drink "Rutt Beer, and the house is covered by a ""ruff'. That's how they talk in "NaHAven. In central Ct, they have a habit of inserting an E before the short A. ""camera" is "keamra", but don't quite pronounce the E.

Connecticut is a fantastic area to make a living and have a family . Yes you need to make money to enjoy what the state offers ie boat, camper, land , race car lime rock. If your not making at least 100k your going to have a hard time living here especially if you have a family. The people are stuffy and think they matter more then they do but that’s mostly the Gold Coast. Millionaires row Fairfield to Greenwich. Just know the east coast is the cash capital of world. NYC-Boston . One more thing it’s ran by libs so it’s a thorn . Hence tax you to death state . Good luck .

Most likely will be moving back home as this is my home state and all my family is here, as far as taxes goes, nothing will compare to California as that’s where I’m coming from, not a fan of a vehicle tax 😂but yeah out here income tax is 13% depending on salary with federal, sales tax is anywhere from 7.75-10%, so this doesn’t compare, I see minimum wage is 14 for most full time workers with average rent spanning between 1,100-1800, it’s about 2,400 now just for a one bedroom apartment, again nothing compares California won’t even let you live anymore

My parents moved to Fairfield during our h.s. years. However, they were teachers in norwalk. I continued high school in Norwalk, while my sister chose to go to Fairfield Warde high. There really wasn't much of a difference between the two. My sister wore her regular clothes and she and I had the same type of wardrobe. I think it depended on who your friends were and who you were trying to impress. Both of our friend groups didn't care much. After I graduated, I got a job in Fairfield and started hanging out with the Fairfield crowd. They were all really nice and I had met and hung out with a lot of the same people my sister already knew.

Sure, it has high rent, but you make at LEAST $14 per hour (higher than most states). Also, I know many people with very good jobs who are Arab and Spanish.
Edit: Tipped works can be payed a minimum of $6.38. Keep in mind that people usually tip 20% when at a restaurant.
