Lovely clear water. It IS fascinating watching what goes on. I felt a bit bad for the lobster trying so hard to get at the delicious smelling fish but having so little luck. I figure it's only fair to get a nice meal before becoming a meal. Though I guess none of that happened on this occasion. My father spent much of his young life on Nantucket. The family were in the fishing business. He never ordered lobster when eating out, or cooked it at home because he said "I ate it so much I am still sick of it". He did really like scallops still.
I was surprised at how clear it was that day too! We're not known for great visibility in our water in New England. So this lobster trap was only in for a little over an hour. They usually check traps every couple of days so the lobsters that get caught end up picking the bait bags clean to the bones--so they usually do get a good meal. Having relatives with a lobster boat, I grew up with lobster around, but honestly I much prefer a fillet of haddock over lobster. I agree with you, it is fascinating to watch what goes on under the water. 😄
No, that wasn't the first lobster at the end. The first one was Wilber and he has an issue with the other, who is Jim,. Jim, and Wilber are half-brothers who will not get on the same side of a trap of one another. I know, because I was one of the pollack swimming by. Your welcome...blub, blub blub.
Thanks for all the support, guys! I did film another lobster trap the other day. If there's anything you're wondering or something you'd like me to chat about in regards to lobstering or the conditions here in New England, comment here and maybe I'll discuss it in the next video. 😊
Lobster are like cats. They can squeeze through tiny holes you’d never think they could get through. Did you zip tie that Mack in there? Haha I thought I’d seen or used just about every bait setup going but that’s a new one for me (Either way, I think you always want some sort of hanging bait. They love having exposed fish like that they can easily get at)
@evergreen4034 Yes, it was ziptied. Haha It really does serve several purposes. It gives perspective to the size of the lobsters, adds to the bait, and, like you mention, it gives off a visual, and macks are such shiny fish to begin with. I totally agree, lobsters are contortionists for sure. Haha
Off of Hampton and Rye in NH. So, they look big, but that's mostly the fisheye on the wide shot of the gopro. Makes them look bigger. I thought the same thing too. 😂 I wish we had big ones close to shore.
Hi. I am producing a documentary series and my next episode is about lobster fishing. I am based in Southwest Nova Scotia. Would you permit me to use a short clip from your video in my episode? I will give you full credit of course. The gopro vantage point is awesome. Thanks for your consideration.
Great lil video!..I always wondered how lobster pots work. 👍
Thanks! 😄
If you picture the bait bag as a clock, look just left of the 8 o'clock mark @4:18 there is a little flounder buzzing around.
I honestly didn't point that out because I thought people wouldn't be able to see it! You're a legend for catching that! Nice catch!

@@LobsterFishingAdventures Thanks! Yeah, it's certainly a risk. 😅😅😅
How FUN!! Feel free to overnight your catch my way! 😁
Haha 😂
Good stuff, please do some more
Will do! Hopefully at least 1 a month. Should be interesting to see how water temp and month change the outcomes.
Cool video man!
Thanks! I'll have to do some more. Never know what you'll see down there. 😄

I have to ask where you set it that there were pollock that big in 25 feet of water?

Nice I did the same thing with my GoPro

Interesting
Agreed!
Would you do a time-lapse instead of highlights to see the whole process?
I'd consider it. Will probably have a second camera down there next year so maybe I'll give it a try.

I caught a lotta lobsters using Vienna hot dogs. Try some hot dogs next time.
use chicken as bait
Chicken is good bait!
