Have you ever thought about using some small bolts/screws to use in the centercap holes? Does ARP make any that aare that small? IMO that would look kool!
Nice Vid Just wondering how much ya get your mustang for Since I'm currently saving up for one but it's hard to find one cuz all Canadian cars rust so fast might just get one from down south
We had a similar problem with the driveway, stop by a hardware store and get a 1" thick piece of hard rubber like a cutting board, obviously large enough for your lift to roll/rest on works like a champ..
Nice man! I lived over in Scotland for a couple years and got to know some real cool petrol heads over there that were into American muscle. Was your car already there or did you import it yourself?
The 65 and 66 Mustangs are definitely the perfect sized Mustangs then 67 and up they became a little bigger. Here's a video of a restomod 65 Fastback with the 6.8L SOHC 3V Triton V10 out of an 08 Super Dutyua-cam.com/video/DOiU1sAvTfk/v-deo.html
Glad to see that centerlink get replaced! And thanks for showing the steering box greasing. I need to do the same and have never actually seen what's involved. I swear everyone made it sound so much more complicated somehow.
Same, way better than reading old forum threads from the 90’s! Added to the to-do list for 65 as well. I’m on the fence on adjusting my steering box to take out some slack ( I have a lot of play in my wheel from the box), any chance you guys have input? I know it’s as easy as loosening the center nut and turning the flat a quarter, but heard the gears may be soft and strip in a turn. Ben, huge fan since I got my 65 around the same time as you!
If something breaks, you just created more content for the channel. Lol you know that we love the content that you bring to the channel Ben. Whatever you decide to do, I’m sure it will be good. We love the videos bud!
I have manual steering in my '66 and have been thinking of putting in power. But what you're telling me is I should just put new grease in the grease box? :D
Adding grease won’t make it as easy as power steering haha. It will just make it smoother. It’s a cheap thing to do before switching out to power…so it can’t hurt if you want to try
Another great video. You remind me of me when younger. BTW. If your Dad needs any parts for the 1960 Starliner I know of one here in Central S.C. in a private "junkyard"!
Very nice! The wheels look great, I like the simple paint job on them, they look good. Also, thanks for the info on the steering box grease, I will need to do the same and it's great to see how it's done.
The wheels look good. I had my 'Daisy' mags powder coated, not cheap and the coater forgot to plug the lug holes so I got to grind those clean. Your way may be better. I have not seen a power steering center link like that. Good catch.....I have to look up what it was. Hang in there.....did aomething burn???
I really like this "magnesium look". I've also treated my wheels with graphite spray and a few other tricks. With the paint chips, etc. It looks very authentic.
Hi, I’m from the uk and have owned Mustangs since I was 19, I have had a ‘66 for the last 12 years and wondered what type of tacho you have on your car, it looks right at home! I enjoy your videos, keep it up!
Keeping it like this for now. It’s nice to not have to care about the paint when working on it. Maybe one day I’ll paint it but that’s a lot of money…just satin Ivy green
Those Torque Thrust Ds will really POP is you polish the rims. It's a lot of elbow grease but it' worth the effort. I have an Ivy green coopay I ordered in March of '65 and it was assembled on April Fool's Day. Good luck, huh ? In '67 I bought a set of ET UNILUGs (same style as the Americans) they were $19 a piece at a Goodyear store.
Biggest mistake I ever made was selling my 68 GT390 4spd coupe. The best thing I ever did to that car was the application of 65 GT 350r suspension geometry and alignment specs. Enjoy the days.
Next step a paint and it does not need a show quality paint job. But keep it Ivy green and flat back hood. My 65 Fastback is a Caspian blue with the Shelby style hood in flat black and all the way to the top of the fenders " Trans-Am style "
I got my license in 1969 when these were fairly new cars. I had a 63 Comet that I swapped the 6 cylinder for a 289. Good to see young people loving our old cars. I still am doing auto body at 69 years old
Wouldn't be a bad idea to have your alignment checked now. Used to go to Tyerman's down the street from you years ago, they still had all the cool old equipment then.
You and your family's content is really cool. It's well recorded and well presented. I do like the 'can do' small upgrades on the Mustang. Showing everyone that big bucks aren't necessary.👍
It popped out on my dad’s 70 boss when he was 17. He said it never stopped straight so when he was touching the brakes it made a left turn on a side road and parked itself between two cars. Now he wishes he would’ve tried the lottery that day lol
To tighten the steering box loosen that nut with the screw in the middle. Turn it right to tighten the steering then lock the nut down. Should take the slop out of it.
@@FourSpeedFilms oh ok thanks i thought you like sanded down the original paint and just left it i like the rougher looking paint job compared to the show car paint job
@Ben - how long did it take to do that center link swap every with the problems you ran into? Did you go with any new bushings or anything as well when swapping it over? Going to do the same thing to mine next weekend and want to make sure I've got everything in order.
Is that paint really as dull as it looked on film, or is it more glossy? I used that matte clear on some other wheels and I felt like it came out pretty shiny. I’m getting ready to try Rustoleum’s “chalked” paint on a set…I can’t make up my mind if I’m going to shoot the center, or the whole wheel. I’ll let you know how it turns out.
That's the ups an downs of a older car,but at least u can work on it ,an your dad or gramps can be on ur back too help u thru things ,an look at the experience ur getting too know ur car, good or bad their great fun,an great stories..great color choice, still looks killer,,pop sell the food yet ??? That's one sick lookin car also..tks for sharin Ben.😎😎😎😎
I recommend a $40 electric impact gun from harbor freight. Makes removing lug nuts an ease. I don't use it to tighten lug nuts. I always hand torque them.
The new wheel color looks good. Glad you went to manual steering. Now you can remove the bracket on the frame where the power steering was on the drivers side. Just so you know, the steering box uses gear oil/lube 85-90 wt. Unfortunately you will need to remove the steering box from the car to clean out all the grease. What I have seen happen is the grease does not lube the bearings correctly in the box and will wear out. Check your shop manual and you will see what I am talking about. Do really enjoy the videos.
If you still have play in the wheel you could try to tighten the steering box if you haven’t already. The bolt sticking out with the nut on top is the adjustment for it. You don’t want to over tighten it so make sure to do a little research first but essentially you just loosen the nut then turn the bolt down into the box then tighten the nut back up to lock it down from moving
That was good you to listen to our comment about the dangers in using the steering control valve as a non functioning P.S. center arm steering pivot joint.
Great job my man I did the same to my steering box the wheels look great next time if you have a stuck ball or tie rod or anything on your steering get two big hammers and smack both sides at the same time it will most of the time pop free. One question why are there two washers on the one joint

If you want the valve and link together...maybe $50? It was rebuilt a few years ago. Email me at fourspeedfilms@gmail.com
I left you a message on Instagram but never heard back.

Love those tires. I'd like to put some on my 65 f100 but man they are spendy. Cool to see you and your dad working together on your stang.
Thank you! They are such cool looking tires

Glad you’re embracing the good part of planning and improving things. That’s half the fun.

Ben, I think some flat center caps painted the same color would look cool on your car. I know they are made for your rims.
Maybe if I get another set! I need a drag racing pair
Glad to see that centerlink get replaced! And thanks for showing the steering box greasing. I need to do the same and have never actually seen what's involved. I swear everyone made it sound so much more complicated somehow.
Thanks! Yeah it’s super easy!
I took the cap off mine and packed it completely full of Mobil 1 grease using a spoon.

👍🇦🇺
Looks great man. And don't worry. With older rides, the " wth is that burnt smell, or where the hell is that noise coming from"? Is part of the fun.👍
Rims came out great, like the tires too and the stang weathered patina on it ....👍🤙

To tighten the steering box loosen that nut with the screw in the middle. Turn it right to tighten the steering then lock the nut down. Should take the slop out of it.

What are the tire and wheel sizes? 👍👍

See that stud with the slot in it, back the nut on it off and adjust the stud until youre steering slop is gone and tighten the nut👍
This is really interesting to know, I need to do the exact same thing on my 66

Thanks!
Can you still do doughnuts with manual steering?
Wheels look nice! What paint and color did you use?
You might want to try a 14” steering wheel to get a better feel.
