    First off, the idea of shopping your stash specifically for wishlist dupes? Genius.
    Second, I relate so hard to wanting to buy more of a thing I already own and love despite realizing that it's irrational. I was laughing when you discussed the lipsticks that you wanted because I actually did that with Birkin Brown - I bought it because I liked Bond Girl so much! (By the way, low-key regret that decision, because although Birkin Brown is cute _enough,_ and I enjoy wearing it in the summer and fall, it didn't change my lipstick life. It also made me realize that the thin, almost slightly see-through quality that Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipsticks have make darker colours like Birkin Brown a bit patchier (?) than lighter colours like Bond Girl).
    Third, as a person who owns both Bond Girl and Telluride, I just wanted to let you - and anyone else interested in owning both those lipsticks - know that Bond Girl and Telluride end up being exactly the same colour if you swipe them twice. At one swipe, Telluride seems just a _little_ bit more mauve than Bond Girl, but that difference disappears entirely when I "build them up" with just one more swipe (odd, because you'd think the differences would be more pronounced, but it's what happened). I ended up figuring that out because someone specifically asked me to compare them, and then I felt like a clown for owning two of what amounts to basically the exact same shade on my lips 😔 (I know I'll use them both up, though, so I'm not _that_ devastated).
    Anyway. I have left you yet another novel in the comments at an obscenely early hour, so I'll peace out now to say that I can't wait to hear your thoughts on all the things you shopped your stash for, and whether they ended up sating the hunger you feel for the items on your wishlist 💛💛

    Just before starting to watch this video, I saw on Instagram that The Balm had a 24 hour, 50% OFF sale. To get free shipping, you have to buy $35 or more. The stuff that I really wanted was sold out, so I found myself adding things to my cart, just to get to the free shipping. No ma'am, I decided to not buy anything. Did I really want/need those things? Would I buy them full price? Did I really love the items? All answers were no. I exited the app and went on my merry way. ☺☺☺

    I rarely ever wear lipstick, but as girl who grew up in the 90s, I had to google Charlotte Tilbury's "Super 90s" color. Now, I randomly want it. It reminds me of my old Seventeen Magazine subscription, where the models wore velvet chokers and crocheted hats and baby doll dresses.

    I went on temptalia and noticed there weren't really any high-end dupes for Colourpop Who Run This-- but I just added Pat McGrath MatteTrance Fever Dream, which just looks a little brighter and pinker, and Fenty Spanked which is a little darker and redder. I have this habit of figuring out what types of things I really love in Colourpop's formula and then duping it in something that is less finicky to wear. It's something I try to do rarely but at the same time I'm grateful for the makeup play time that allowed me to explore- sometimes it's not the lipstick I love, but the color!

    Ooo I relate hard for the desire to buy cream blush. I finished 2 in the past 1.5 years and was last night thinking how accomplished I felt. So, I decided to make one. I have a very pigmented pink lipstick which I know I won't finish this year so I mixed a small chunk of it with a primer I'm trying to use up and even added a pump of my shimmering primer to it. It turned into a poppy colored blush. I wore it today under my foundation and it's perfect for summer... $cha-ching$
    Cream blushes require major dedication though to use up. I told myself it's the one makeup item I will not purchase again.
    Happy you are enjoying your beloved makeup stash and giving them new meaning in your life! ✌🏼

    I had a really satisfying lipstick purchasing experience this week that made me think of you! I ran out of all of my deeper orange lipsticks a while back and have been craving one desperately. I've been toying with getting Tom Ford (one day...). I finally went to the drugstore when I had a coupon. I could have purchased 2 lipsticks for almost the same price as one. But I didn't. Boom. New orange. Less than $2 (normally at least 11). Didn't get another lipstick I don't need and won't use just because I could have. An altogether very pleasing lipstick purchase. Thanks for being a voice in my head at these moments!

    Thank you, I really needed this reminder. When I was in London I had the opportunity to swatch all the Bobbi Brown crushed lip colors. I thought I wanted Bare, the one you rave about, but I ended up choosing Plum, a deeper color with more red pigment. And what do you know, I can't appreciate Plum because I keep wanting to go back and purchase Bare! I keep telling myself that just because I love a certain formula doesn't mean I need to collect them all.

    Hannah,I adore this video as always,and last year you found dupes in your stash for realy every product that you wanted to use.I always found that so fantastic from you,that you were every time able,to found a dupe,that belongs to your needs at that moment,and now your doing it again,you want Some products,so you are searching in your stash,what your needs are that you are looking for in a product,and even now that your not on a no buy anymore,you nailed it again.You are the queen of finding dupes,and play and enjoy the things you already own,you even love Some products more after you used them a while as a dupe.I love that so much in your Chanel.I am now almost 19 months on a no buy make-up,with exception from gifts that I got for my birthday,christmas,valentinesday,mothersday,and I love each product that I own.I love my make-up way more than before my no buy,because I realy learned to know all my make-up so well,each product,that I exactly knows how that product behaves.And I am planning to go on for a long time with my no buy,because I want to use as many products up as possible,and I own still so much,that I love to go on with my no buy,untill I reached a moment that I see that I own a normal amount of make-up,and than I Will give myself rules,howmany products I am allowed to own in each catagory.I Will do that,so that I don’t fall back in my old habbits,from keeping buying make-up,I realy have no limit,because I love all make-up,and I now that it’s now easy now that I am on a now buy,but I know when my no buy is over,that my old habbits,easely Will come back,maybe not imidiatly,but after a few months of buying new products.And it’s always good when you know that from yourself to give yourself Some rules or a limit,and I Will choose for a limit in products in each catagory,than I know exactly what I am ollowed to buy,or repurchase.I learned so much from when you began your Chanel untill now,and I hope to learn so much more in the future,if I am on a no buy or not,I learn so much from you because you are so open about your experiences in your no buy,and now when you have a budget,and Some pr,your experiences give other people so many material to learn.Thank you Hannah,for sharing all with us,sending you a big hug,xoxo wendy❤️

    Terra-cotta lips are my fave! While I haven’t tried that exact colourpop shade, so I can’t say which of these is an exact color dupe, here are some of my absolute faves!
    Mac chili
    Urban decay temper (might be slightly more orange)
    Bite beauty cin cin
    Smashbox liquid lip in Out Loud (most comfortable liquid lip formula I’ve tried so don’t be afraid)
    Dior’s matte formula is amazing! They have a terracotta that was my absolute fave, but I lost it. Sorry can’t remember the number. But also you might check out 999 for that firy orange red you also like when you’re in need to a new one of those someday.
    And NARS Jane is another all time fave, probably lighter and more pinky than the colourpop you showed. Formula is unmatched in my opinion and the color is extremely unique.
    Have fun looking. Hope you find the perfect option. Hope my suggestions are helpful and not too enable-y

    I crave for cream blush in the winter unlike most of the world. But I don’t own a single one. What I do is (because I also own a plethora of lipsticks to aid in using them up) I put a drop of all purpose oil in my palm and rub whichever shade of bullet lipstick I which to blush my cheeks with that day. It looks beautiful, glowy and is incredibly tenacious, and I also know through a friend who is in the product manufacturing dept. that the formulation for most cream blushes and lipsticks and almost identical (hence we have so many lip-n-cheek products on the market). It won’t break you out is my point!
    I think you can try this as well, it will expand your lipsticks in a new category and help show them more love before they spoil!

    This is something that I try to be mindful of too, because otherwise I'd own every terracotta color on the market. I mean, I own a ton of them, just not ALL of them. -_-
    Also, depending on how you feel about the Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lip formula, the color 'Mama' is nearly identical to 'Who Run This,' with WRT pulling ever so slightly more pink.

      Yes, lipstick all the way! I will say, some work better than others, but I ONLY do cream blush, and one of my absolute favorites is actually a lipstick. It's a Sephora 'Stories' matte lipstick in a taupe-nude color; unusually creamy for a matte formula, but that makes it a pleasure to blend on the cheeks. I hated it as a lipstick and almost decluttered it before realizing what a fantastic blush it was with a gunmetal grey smoky eye. It's earned a place of honor in my keepsake box with my most frequently used complexion products, right next to my other stick form cream blushes. I like it so much that I'm considering melting it into this nice glass lip balm pot I have on hand, so that it has a better home than its cardboard tube.

    • @imperfectlyEm
      @imperfectlyEm 5 років тому +1

      @@xy9231 That sounds like it would be lovely melted into a little glass pot. I don't do much cream product but the times I'm really jonesing for it, I can usually find a lipstick in my collection that works. If it's a little too thick or pigmented, you can even dilute the lipstick with a bit of concealer or radiant primer to help it spread.

    • @xy9231
      @xy9231 5 років тому

      @@imperfectlyEm that's such a good idea! I have used a light facial oil to mix with some cream products that don't blend wel enough for my taste. But I never thought of using a radiant primer. I have a sample size of one sitting in my drawer right now, maybe I'll finally put it to use

    One of the things that has been helping me lately is doing sustainability and ethics research on companies before I make a purchase. That makes me understand the importance of making my dollars go toward companies that I truly feel good about supporting. I know that is kind of opposite to how you've been doing your ethics review, but once you know the things about colourpop, you know them and the decision of whether you want to support colourpop should be easier to make. Temptalia has a whole portion of her website dedicated to finding dupes for all kinds of products, though I'm not sure Temptalia includes much clean beauty or non traditional brands. My idealized self would make sustainable ethical choices whenever possible and because those things are more expensive, have fewer more precious things as a result. We're still working toward that ideal. I will say that I think lilah b has some lip/cheek duos that are in your wheelhouse, and they are very interesting brand.
    As always, thank you for your lovely insights and your time. I truly look forward to every video, and appreciate all you bring to this community.

    First, I have been craving (yes, actually craving) a new “stuff I have that’s better than stuff I want” video, so this made me so happy!
    Second, I own many of the Colourpop blush and highlight stix, and I love how long wearing they are. I am so impressed by how easily they blend into a sheer wash of color.
    But third, and the main reason for this comment, are suggestions for the highlights. I know you love luxury. But if you wanted some affordable options (or if anyone reading the comments wants affordable options) Essence makes some gorgeous cream highlights, the Sooo Glow highlights, in a light white champagne and a light pink shade. They’re not glittery, but they do look wet. NYX used to make, and I hope they still do, a highlighter stick called Dose of Dew that is a lovely sheer wet look cream highlight that has a very subtle iridescence to it, just enough to make it look natural and not too one note. It is stunning. Of course, all of these products may be discontinued. But they are all under $10 and work wonders for me, the Essence ones in particular.
    Finally, I think I’m going to practice creative descriptions of my makeup: licked by a unicorn, watercolor that gave me pinkeye, etc. 🤣 I think I would love my products so much more if I thought of them in such unique and creative terms!
    Update: I checked, and the highlights are all discontinued. Awesome. But for the look you describe, the CP highlight stix in the Moonlight and Magnolias bundle (it is also sold individually) is a sheer glow with glitter.

    I love cream blushes, too, and I prefer them to have sheer texture, though I don't mind the strong pigmentation of Besame's rouge. The Bite multisticks, I'm sure you know about. ELF's new blush sticks aren't bad at all; I have one, will probably get more when I go through my other similar products. Note-- I have Wherever Walnut too, & use it more as a blush or eyeliner; it's a multi-purpose stick by design. So there's another cream blush you have right now.

    I have been obsessing about cream bronzer, blush and highlight, debating whether to go for Milk or Nudestix.
    But so far I have managed to hold off. I have a Stila blush in Camellia that serves as bronzer on me, two Smashbox cream blushes and a small Benefit cream highlighter I got in a gift set, and I know I will not use these if I buy new stuff.
    I have decluttered quite a bit of make up this year and I am enjoying having a more edited collection and if I am honest with myself there are really no gaps I need to fill, instead I want to whittle down a bit further by using up some similar products which then should only get replaced once I am nearing the end of the last one.
    But even knowing, that the cravings still kick in...

    I’ve noticed my SMS has also fallen off the rails lately, though for different reasons. Well, mostly different reasons. First, was that whole busyness thing. Can relate. My other reason is because lately I’ve not been buying new makeup, meanwhile I’ve been using up stuff and my stash has been steadily shrinking.... so there isn’t a ton to shop. I have noticed that a handful of products have been waiting in the wings and not getting love and I just make it a point to use those for a week or two then rotate back out. Lastly, with items that I do have more of I’ve been doing somewhat of a “panning project” (project 10 uses) to rotate and use them more.
    I feel you from the depths of my soul about cream blush. I have been using lipstick with great success lately. I bought a brown lipstick four months ago (UD 1993) I’ve honestly loved it so much, but I also had zero brown nudes. I’ve had the phenomenon of the brown lipstick with highlighters recently. “Oh Cecile... you want a nude natural flush highlight?!?” You have 4! You don’t need more! This is inspiring me to go through my stash and see if there is anything in the wings that needs love.

    Hm, not entirely related, but I've been struggling with this idea of whether "unique" can truly be modified into "very unique" or other variations common on UA-cam. My brain wants to say "no" because a thing is either one of a kind or it isn't, but is this just one of those words that's evolving? Thoughts? ❤
    I love this shop my stash idea. I need to do this.

    • @HannahLouisePoston
      @HannahLouisePoston  5 років тому +5

      no, I think you are right, unique is a superlative so it shouldn't really be modified by "very." But the fact that we do modify it is a testament to how casually we use it (i.e. since it gets used on things that aren't really unique, we feel like we have to point out when something is ACTUALLY unique by saying it's "incredibly unique" or some such).

    Omg I have been craving cream cheek products for awhile now! I did break down and purchase a supershock cheek highlighter and absolutely loooove it, and also one of the flower beauty blush bombs since so many people rave about them, and I am loving that too! They are the only ones I have and I feel that I can use them this season and get good use out of them and didn’t spend a fortune on the combo. I have been wanting cream products for years but was always concerned they would be hard to use. I’m glad I finally tried some out and they should work better for me as I live in a very hot climate in the CA desert. But that fenty highlight is gorgeous! I hope you are satisfying your craving by using what you have 🥰

    I still find the name Kosås so incredibly funny. I don't know where the company is from, but surely it isn't Swedish despite the fact that they use the "å" in their name?
    I just can't, for the life of me, understand why a brand would call themselves Kosås if they understood what it means in Swedish.
    Ko = Cow
    Sås = Sauce
    Kosås = Cow Sauce? What?!

      On that note though, it does annoy me a little. These are actual letters that have actual phonemes, not just a spruced up version of other letters like putting a heart above the i like a teenager.
      I guess it's a really effective strategy for me to avoid buying anything from the brand. I just can't imagine waking up in the morning and smearing Kosås (Cow Sauce) all over my face. I'll pass, thanks!

    Also, I'd like to echo another commenter on the high quality of Rituel de Fille's cream products. I've owned one of their cream pigments ('Delirium' which is a beautiful rusty orange red that truly gives a feverish/ruddy look) for a couple years and it's still perfect. Amazing herbal smell that I basically huff every time I use it, too. As for stickiness, that's usually something I can't stand, but I've never noticed it with this blush. It doesn't have a terribly emollient formula, not as glide-y as, say, the Stila Convertible Colors. It's drier, not in a bad way, but you have to warm it up a bit and it isn't greasy or wet on the cheeks at all.

    My issue is that I keep searching for the “holy grail” products. I don’t have a large collection. I do have much more than I need (for example around 7 eye shadow palettes) but I want to purchase and agonize over purchases because I like what I own, but I haven’t found a holy grail. Same with foundation. I have 4 different foundations. I like what I own, but I don’t spend high end money on foundations, but I’m always considering purchases to find that “holy grail” foundation. I do sample and I try not to buy and return (although I do from time to time), and with new makeup coming out all of the time, I’m trying to purchase and not break the bank, but I’m always trying to find that holy grail. So I don’t want to buy multiples of anything I just want something better because I still haven’t found the best.

    Ultimately you have the final say in what you buy, but I'd suggest that you don't spend the money on any cream blush, cream highlighter and lipsticks when you have the ones you have already. The cream blush I get getting a different color, but my concern would be it going bad before you could use it. Like I said you can do what you want, but I'm throwing my two cents in for some thought.

    I've thrown out or given away most of my lippie stix purely for how messy and broken they get. It bums me out since I adored the colors, but I'm too hot tempered to deal with faulty packaging in the morning. I've been really into cream blush too! I agree with the other comments, I use lip colors as blush when I don't want to deal with the cloud paints. I had an intense, brief love affair with Nudestix a couple years ago and have a handful of their lip pencils that are perfect for blush colors. And win win, it stops me from buying more cream blush (like the colourpop, ilia, rms, and many more I've been lusting after). Thank you for recommending Amanda Z, she's a great resource for the makeup vibes I've been emulating recently. Have you checked out Matilda's channel? It's so great, I think you would love it! I've been so into cream blush too. I have a pixi one that I don't love the formula of and I have the stila one in magnolia that I didn't use for a year after buying it then shopped my stash for it and haven't put it down in over three months. I'm on a no buy and wrote into my rules I could buy something in June and bought a k beauty blush thinking it was a cream but it wasn't so I'm an idiot. I can't buy another different one now because I bought that blush (which I still love, but it's not cream). But on another note giving myself that rule was a mistake it made me feel like I failed the no buy and made me crazy and got into those terrible shopping habits like the sort you spoke about recently. Very happy to be back in no buy mind space where I can buy nothing.

    What a great idea! I did something similar when the ABH Sultry palette came out. I wanted it SO BAD, so I looked in my makeup drawer and lo and behold, I had dupes for nearly all of those colors. the ONE color I didn't have, I brought a dupe for less than $5...instead of paying $45 for a palette of neutrals. Good thing I'm always drawn to the same colors, so I usually have dupes. :)

    I recently subscribed to SeanKBeauty. She is talking recently about shelf life etc. And I know you aren't. Minimalist and you aren't concerned with ensuring you pan all of your products, but if you think about how long a product will be good for it may help tamp down the desire to buy more and buy duplicates. It's something that, if I really go over it it in my mind, helps me talk myself out of buying more lipstick. I decided to try different formulas from colourpop and dip my toes in to lip products. I think it helped me move past obsessing over eyeshadows. When I started purchasing lip products though, I told myself not to go crazy. I also know I've heard colourpop expires pretty quickly too. I also have noticed that 3 of the 8 I chose are incredibly similar shades, even if they are in different finishes, so I dont need to keep buying more of the same tone when it will take me a while to use all of the products I now have before they go bad.

    I think something to consider regarding those expensive blushes that refill the compacts is that you aren't adding plastic into the landfill by purchasing & using them. Also, you get the added joy of using a beautiful product in luxe packaging for that luxe sensory experience. I'm not trying to encourage anyone to spend beyond their means or buy stuff they don't need, but just like with fast fashion there is a price for purchasing fast beauty. Just something to consider since you seem to be wanting quality over quanity & have expressed ethical & environmental concerns about who you purchase from. It's kind of sad that all the products/brands that are made from sustainable and/or recyclable/biodegradable materials are more expensive than disposable, one use products made of plastic :(
    I 💜 wet look highlighters :)
    I stopped buying lip products when I realized I was literally buying the same pinky brown nude color over & over lol. Now I only replace my lip balms when needed & never buy lipstick or gloss.

I've got a creme pigment that I've had for two years. Still no pan, still hasn't gone off. And they're products that are truly multi-use. Meaning they aren't excessively drying if you use them on the lips, unlike the Bite Multisticks.
