Robert Reed took his 1996 KX250 engine to Tom Morgan of TMR to bore it out into a 315cc. Then he took a 2018 Kawasaki KX250 chassis and dropped it off with A.J. Waggoner of Built500 who modified the engine mounts, exhaust mounts and radiators to fit the two-stroke engine. Robert originally had a KX250 featured as a Two-Stroke Spotlight in our Mid-Week Report article on motocrossactionmag.com and now he built another and brought it out to shine in the Southern California sun at Glen Helen Raceway.

If they were production bikes they’d be cheaper to make than a 1 off. Even just a new kx250 2t would be awesome.
@@tireballastserviceofflorid7771honestly you’d be surprised on the price of building a “hybrid” most of the time they are more expensive but if you buy the right donor bike it can actually be really cheap
if it ain't electric-start and EFI, nobody wants it in 2024. Especially for $10,000-$15,000
@@HorsepowerHouseAs the owner of several 500s, they aren't too much for most people. They simply lack the throttle discipline needed and find themselves in over their head before they can react, thinking you can ride it like a 125. Once someone becomes accustomed to it, while it is a lot, it isnt too much.
TMR did my motors/suspension back when I was racing. Tom (Jeff Wards mechanic) does top notch work.

Why would anyone know this guy? I’ve been into mx since 87’ and I’ve never heard of him.
I built something very similar. I built a 2020 kx250af with a 2003 kx250 motor. Varner racing did the motor to running off of mrx02 fuel. Built a bunch of very custom parts. Back in 2021 I contacted ping to cover the build and he said nobody would be interested..... I would love to get some info on what they did to build the top engine to spar mounts and the exhaust bracket mount.

Skip the big-bore kit, I use the Super X carb by STIC SuperTorque. My 200SX runs like a ported +20cc big-bore. I'm about to tune one for my buddies '91 KX250.

That is the sweetest Kawasaki 2 Stroke l have ever seen. Jetted perfect for Glen Helen. A tad fuel rich, which gives it more torque and pull for the hills there. 😊

Every KX250 I ever rode vibrated more than a wore out Harbor Freight paint shaker and this one looked as smooth as silk!
I had a two stroke gas gas supermotard 250 that would do backward circles on my driveway dragging the kickstand if i left it to idle fked up my driveway badly it vibrated that much i got a few tickets for lights being out and carried spare lights everywhere
That was how many? None. All bikes vibrate.

I have a 2002 KX 300 completely rebuilt from top to bottom ! Immaculate! Never rode it since it’s been rebuilt now have it for sale
the new electric motorcycles may be very fast, but in terms of pleasure and fun, two-strokes are unbeatable!...
I had a 310 KX and it signed off quick up top. But the low to mid power was incredibly tractable. 3rd gear starts and lots of holeshots! Too bad I wasn't as good as the bike.
You pulled holeshots but are not a good rider?
@@HWG-wm8ld I won some B class races but I faded by the end too many times. Working full time @55-60 hours a week and having a family I didn't get much time to practice anymore. So yeah I wasn't that good compared to the top guy's.

My first bike was a 88 kx80 big wheel with a 105 cc big bore kit...this thing must be a beast with even more torque.

@@angelracing My KTM 300 in any frame won't vibrate like the KX250 I've owned. My comment relates to my 300SX is great in its own frame.

What can you do to my 2003 kdx220?
Taking those ODI grips off will fix your throttle problem. They hang up and stick in the housing bc the plastic flash isn’t cleaned up/the molds are super inconsistent. If you have a KTM, they’re fine bc they come with them. But please for your safety guys run traditional glue on grips with a good throttle tube like the motion pro Titan.

I believe all manufactures need to start producing 2 stroke 125cc and 250cc dirtbikes for motocross and supercross racing. The manufactures put the research and development effort back into two strokes and the AMA starts to bring the original 125/250 class back into the mainstream. The racing would be better and the skill would come into play more than the machine itself. Maybe I'm just a old head but I truly believe in my heart that the golden age of motocross and supercross was the late 90's early 2000's with two strokes only no four strokes no electric bullshit just pre mix and a set of hairy balls. I just want to see all the competitors that make the mains nowdays on 2 strokes and watch the raing improve because its not as good as it once was....I can dream cant I ....

Beautiful bike , amazing work , riders who complain about vibration don't belong on a motorcycle period let alone a 2 Stroke , they are mising the point of riding at all .
A comment was posted about how terrible every KX 250 vibrates. I’ve never experienced that from any bike(I’ve never been on a 500).

The bike should be able to race the 450 class because it’s well under 450cc yet they won’t let them because those 2 strokes easily win
The rider wins the race. Carmichael and Stewart were lapping up to the top five on two strokes, while 90% were on 450s.
